It had taken some time for Isamu to reach the school again after his clandestine meeting with a known criminal, but despite the late hour, and his rigorous school schedule, he found that he couldn’t sleep. He replayed the encounter in his head, turning it over, trying to derive some kind of meaning from the encounter. He’d learned… something of Akuma’s motives, if he could take anything the masked boy said at his word.
Which was a pretty big ‘if’, if he was being honest with himself. He couldn’t even really trust anything Akuma had said about being a third year or his public reputation, since for all he knew it was just more lies and deception to throw him off the trail—though surely Akuma had to know that Isamu could track him down by scent if he really had a mind to.
So in the end, all that he had really gained from that encounter, besides a mutual non-aggression pact of sorts, was a handful of possibly lies and a frankly lame motivation. Add to that that he was now obligated to report this contact to a pro hero or the cops lest it jeopardize his future prospects and that he would be short on sleep besides…
Isamu paced in the hallway outside Aoi’s office at the bleary-eyed hour of 5 o’clock, rubbing at his eyes and having had more than enough time to write a preview of Aoi’s speech at him for the infraction. Even though he’d taken precautions, well… he had walked into an encounter that was two on one, without any support gear and with his adversaries armed with who knows what.
“You goddamn idiot…” he muttered to himself as he kept pacing, almost too distracted by his thoughts to keep an eye or ear out for his teacher.

The sun had not risen yet as Aoi Sato made her way to work. She had fed her cats and dogs already and told them about her evening plans with them which included sushi and movies. The corgis seemed excited while the cats seemed excited at the fact that they might be getting some fresh sushi. She loved her pets. They were loyal to a fault and always were happy to see her. She would appreciate that sort of excitement when people came to her class. Most people just dreaded her strictness. She was not sure what her current class's opinion on her was but she remembered that last year's first years hated her. They would say her class was too tough and that she was unfair. To be fair, those statements came from people she expelled so maybe their anger manifesting. Regardless, she was curious how 1-A felt about her. She assumed they think she was harsh for dismissing Satou and Himura. Maybe Satou more than Himura. She was not going to stop class for a girl who Aoi thought was not cut out for it.
Drinking her tea, Aoi finally made it to her office. The train was a bit late so she was not perfectly on time but she didn't expect anyone to be there. So when she saw one of her more interesting student pacing in front of her door. Isamu Suzuki was an interesting student. His file was something fascinating compared to most of the students in the school so she was curious how he was going to develop throughout the next few years. She'll take notes on him.
Unlocking her office with her free hand, she looked down at the pacing cat. "Suzuki, is there a reason you have come to see me this early that warrants me seeing you before class?" Aoi asked, swinging her office door open, revealing a very minimal office. The only thing that stuck out was her naginata mounted on the wall behind her desk.

Isamu leapt into the air and somehow twisted mid-jump, landing on three paws with a fourth raised and his claws extended as Aoi startled him. His tailfur bristled as he assessed the situation. His ears laid back as his gaze travelled upwards and he quickly stood back up, clearing his throat sheepishly. “Sorry, I’m just… startled. And yes, there is. Can we talk inside your office?” He stepped inside once the door was open, taking a quick glance around at the interior of the office. Hmm. Not bad, though he wasn’t sure what he had been expecting. He took a seat in the chair in front of the desk, nose twitching as he took in the air… Was that… cat food? Damn, now he was hungry. Dammit, focus. I can eat later. “Look, I don’t know if any of this is in my file here or not…” Those records were, in theory, sealed, but he had no illusions about the fact that U.A. probably enjoyed some privileged access to information given their status and connections. “Before I came here I was involved with… let’s just say they weren’t honor role students. I parted ways with them—” to be precise, he got everyone involved arrested except for the leaders “—but I’m required to report any contact with them to a hero or the police, so…” He pulled a carefully folded note out of his pocket and placed it onto Aoi’s desk. It detailed a meeting time and location, and it wouldn’t take amazing deductive powers to notice that the meeting time had already passed, and that Isamu had seemingly been up for quite a while already. Perhaps the most important detail that he had left out of his abridged backstory was that he had broken up the gang in the process of rescuing a kidnapped child, but Isamu didn’t particularly feel like tooting his own horn, or appearing to.

Strolling into her office, Aoi cut her usual morning routine a bit short. With Isamu there, she really did not feel it was appropriate for her to do so. Today she just opted to play her usual classical music instead. It did not concern her too much and it was rather in offensive. Walking over to the small record player that balanced on an old desk, Aoi moved the needle off of the current record before replacing it with another record she kept under the desk. Taking the sleeve, she placed it on her regular work desk. Turning on the record player before sitting down, the soft echos of string instruments started to chime through the room.
Listening to her student for a bit, Aoi tried to remember his file. She remembered one of the concerns was that he had a criminal past of some sort. She also remembered that those records were removed but her friends at the police office expressed concerns to her when she mentioned his name over drinks one day. She called in some favours and now she knows more than she wants to know about her student. Oh well, life will be like that.
"Did you know that 'An der schönen blauen Donau' was only a mild success when originally performed. It had lyrics and all but it really was not considered a classic from Strauss. Later, Strauss performed a purely orchestral version and it became Strauss's most famous piece. Maybe even the most famous classical piece." Aoi spoke in an even tone, occasionally gesturing at the record sleeve.
"So you had contact with a villain. What do you want me to do, Suzuki? Do you want me to expel you? Do you want me to report what you gave me to the the authorities? Do you want me go find these villains? Please do tell me. I'm curious what you would do if you were in my place." Aoi did not want to be harsh but she knew she could not sugarcoat it either. What Isamu did was irresponsible, even if it was by chance.

Isamu’s nervous energy had seemed to drain out of him after he sat down and explained himself, leaving a tired—and weary—cat sitting in the seat. He perked an ear as his teacher put the record on, recognizing the piece, but not by its German title. He didn’t consider himself an audiophile in the normal sense, but he did appreciate the qualities of a physical medium as opposed to a digital one.
He shook his head when Aoi explained the origin of the song, not having read up on it previously.
She hadn’t tossed him out of the office—figuratively or literally—so that was at least a start. But he still wasn’t quite sure where he stood with the teacher. “Look, I know I’ve made some mistakes. I shouldn’t have gone tonight, for… a lot of reasons.” He looked down at his hands, folded up in his lap. “I only went tonight because… I was hoping that I could help Akuma and convince him to change his ways. Instead I found him up to his same old tricks, using an abandoned warehouse as a base, spouting nonsense about wanting to take down fake heroes while mugging people on the street.” He looked up briefly. “Though if I know him, he’d already planned to abandon that place before I got there.”
Isamu looked down at his lap again, then sat up straight, looking his teacher in the eye. “I want you to report this to the authorities. Akuma is preying on innocent civilians and should be taken in. If my mistakes mean you feel I’m not fit to be a student here, then…” He swallowed hard. “Then I understand. But if you let me stay, I promise I will work harder than anyone else here to become a real hero. And if anything like this happens again I’ll come to you first. But I need to become a hero. I want to do it here, but I’ll find a way to make it happen wherever I end up.”

Not showing much emotion, it looked like Aoi was focused on the music. She had to be careful in a situation like this. Isamu has been a good student, at least in her class. From what she knew, he was being dutiful enough to his studies, hero and general studies. If he would have been a thorn in her side and slacking off on his studies, Aoi would seriously consider expulsion. As the music carried through the room, she tapped her desk as he laid out what had happened.
How curious. These students are much more interesting than I thought they would be. That's a pleasant surprise.
Getting up, she opened a small cabinet in her office. Grabbing a block of paper and a pen, Aoi put it on her desk again. Pushing it towards her student she said "Please write down whatever you think is important to what happened. I will report that and what you told."
Pausing, she waited for the music to go through one of the sections again. Tapping her desk again, she gave a small smile to her student.
"First of all, thank you for telling me. I know you are required to but I nonetheless am appreciative. As you assumed, I can't leave this action unpunished but..." Aoi motioned around her office before continuing.
"U.A. would be loosing a good student if I would expel you. So I think I have an idea. U.A. has a rodent issue in the more less visited areas. As your punishment, I would like you to take care of this. I feel it would be easier for you plus probably some exercise. What do you think?"
Aoi ended with a question, wondering what he thought of her sanctions. Obviously, if he felt insulted by it, she could be less kind.

Isamu took the given paper and pen with a small nod. “Of course.” He started to write out as detailed an account of the event as he could, only pausing a moment before transcribing the entire conversation, writing down the personal information Akuma had revealed about himself like his school year and family philanthropy. He even included as many sensory details as he could, estimating the number of people that he had detected scents for and any other environmental tidbits he could think of.
He looked up from his report as Aoi thanked him for the report, nodding a bit numbly, still uncertain of his fate. “Of course. I thought you would appreciate hearing it from me rather than from the police.” He went back to his writing but his ears perked up as his teacher kept speaking.
It took him a few moments for Aoi’s offer to sink in, the cat-like student looking up sharply with an almost disbelieving expression on his face. “Really? I mean,” he cleared his throat, trying to regain his composure. “Of course. Just tell me where. Do you want them captured humanely or just exterminated?”
Why didn’t U.A. just hire an exterminator? Who knows. Right now he wasn’t about to question his teacher’s decision and further jeopardize his hero career. Plus U.A. was a pretty large campus, so problems were bound to pop up here and there.
… Oh god. U.A. was a really large campus. What kind of trouble did he just make for himself?

Aoi raised her eyebrows, watching the student react in front of her. In her view, it seemed liked an apt for the student. Yes, he was a cat. It can seem a bit comical with his quirk but fitting. It was a task that needed to be done and why not use someone who was perfectly made for the task. If she gets flak from the staff, she will suggest that if they want to expel the kid to be her guest. Maybe the task was demeaning but the student was a decent kid and deserves at least one more chance at this.
Taking a peak at the notebook, Aoi nodded. "Yes. It has been a problem. It would be a waste of your quirk wouldn't it? You chose what you want to do. I'll leave that up to you." Aoi nodded a bit before getting up. She wondered how her student would react. He seemed a bit sceptical at first but it seemed a reasonable reaction to what she was asking of him. "Is there anything that concerns you? Any issues in class or at school? "

Isamu had honestly been surprised that Aoi would let her stay, given her reputation, and his. But he wasn’t about to look a gift horse in the mouth right at that moment. If he had to go clean up some rats, well… It was a little stereotypical to assign that to him, but he had learnt enough in the fallout of all of his past activities to know when swallowing his pride was in order. And his elation at being allowed to stay far outweighed any slight he might have felt at the task.
When she left the choice up to him, he resolved to extermination as his route. Capturing them humanely would have then meant that they would need to relocate them, which would be a huge added hassle. Not to mention, the rat population as a whole would probably survive their extermination at U.A. Less chance of them escaping again, too.
Isamu quickly finished up his detailed notes, setting the paper and pen on Aoi’s desk. There it was. As accurate an accounting of everything he had seen, heard, or smelled during that encounter as he could make.
When the teacher asked if he had any concerns about classes or school, he took a moment to mull that over. Aside from generalized insecurities about his quirk and future hero prospects, the classes and curriculum had been fine. Certainly no issues that he needed to see the teacher at… 5:30AM? to address. He shook his head and stood up, getting ready to leave the teacher to get ready for her day and to go catch a little bit of shut-eye before class. “Nothing that comes to mind, right now, Sato-sensei. And I’ve taken enough of your time as it is. But…” He bowed deeply to the teacher, before continuing. “Thank you for giving me another chance. I promise I won’t let it go to waste.”
Unless the teacher stopped him or had more to say, at that point he turned and left for his dorm room to catch some much-needed sleep.
