As Ren spoke Elke only felt more confident in herself. Course he wouldn't have given up, the two of them were in this 'training' together, although it felt a lot less like training now. She would definitely need to ask why the simulation room was so difficult later. As she regained her normal composure instead of the heroic pose she struck earlier, a large bokuto made of ice was slid into her hands. It was cold, very cold, extremely cold; almost so cold that it hurt but didn't. It made her wish she had gloves, but Ren must have given her the weapon because he trusted she knew how to use it. Holding the weapon vertically, she inspected its height but only managed to figure out its weight; it was much heavier than she had expected. Just how could one wield a weapon so heavy?[break][break]
It took most of her strength to keep the weapon off the ground. Elke was certain she wouldn't be able to swing it, so she had to do the next best; thrust with it. But she knew she only had one shot; the weapon was made of ice, so if she struck her target in the way she was thinking then it would shatter almost immediately. The girl got so caught up in her planning that she hadn't even noticed Ren had left to distract the droid.[break][break]
Holding the sword along her body, she braced to see if it was possible. With her arms as low as it could be, and the sword itself pressing along her body she noticed that it poked well past her head; of course it would she was just that short. Perfect, so that meant she had a proper means of holding it in a way she would strike it, she just needed to activate her back thrusters and not miss. She didn't get any time to double check and make sure this plan would work, as the large droid slammed the ground right outside the building, creating a shockwave that rocketed through the building she was inside. Now with her senses about her, she ran out of the building, holding the sword in her arms like a child would if they had no idea how to use a weapon, she looked onward at the scene of the fight.[break][break]
It was obvious Ren was outclassed by the droid, but then again it was mostly due to it being just so large. This training wasn't designed for one person to work alone, it was designed for them to work together; just like how he had given her the bokuto to deal with the bot itself. Despite seeing his ability to avoid the droid earlier, it appeared as though Ren was slowing down; she needed to act quick. Crouching, and aiming herself at the droid, she tried her best to balance the sword, holding it close to her body to increase the effectiveness of her strength in keeping it stable. All she needed to do was hit the head of the robot with the tip of the ice sword; simple right?[break][break]
She was waiting for the right time to strike when the robot was moving the least. It seemed to have finally cornered Ren, which is around the same time it started to get cocky; huh, it acted just like a real-life Saturday morning villain would. When victory is closest at hand is when they always drop their guard. Grimacing, and keeping her eyes wide open, she heard Ren speak a few words; almost like a signal asking her to strike now. Of course, that was the perfect time do to so as it dropped its ground. A familiar blast of wind could be heard from far away as the valves on her back shot open, and her feet left the ground.[break][break]
Soaring through the sky at unprecedented speed, she rocketed towards the droids head. If she aimed this correctly she should feel an impact in 3... 2... CRACK! Direct hit! The droid had whipped its head around to see what made the sound from her launching earlier, just in time for the bokuto to pierce directly into its eye; the weakest point on the head. Impressively enough, the ice sword hadn't shattered entirely, leaving its entire handle poking out of the droid itself. Elke didn't want to risk anything; a slight pause showed that the droid was still standing, just not moving. Perhaps it was defeated so quick that it just stayed standing? No, she had to make sure. The force Elke had slammed into the droid with kept her from bouncing off as the girl now clung to the head of the droid itself, directly next to where the blade protruded. In one final act, she pulled her arm back, palm open, and thrust forward onto the blade.[break][break]
"GEHEN!" A sharp pain shot through her hand as her valve opened just in time for the handle to shoot down her valve. She misjudged how close her hand would have gotten in the rush of adrenaline. The sudden seal the palm of her hand created on the base of the sword was impressive before finally, the air shattered out. The sound of metal creaking, and ice cracking could be heard as the bokuto rocketed out the other side of the droids head; a killing blow so to say. A quick inspect to her hand revealed that her valve had deformed slightly; it wouldn't open again for a little while. Ren didn't need to know.[break][break]
Elke was running low on uses of her quirk by this time, very low; she needed to recharge but she might not have gotten the chance as they heard another loud thud coming from the final lane; this one looked different. It was humanoid in appearance and stood about twice as tall as Ren. The droid she was on however, was still standing up straight and stiff; looks like she did take it down while it was standing. In a swift jump, she cleared the destroyed head of the droid and slid down to the ground where Ren was located.[break][break]
Upon landing, she smiled up at him. "See! I got this!" her voice was cheery before she turned her head to the humanoid droid itself. "Well, that doesn't look good for us." The tone to her voice was still cheery, almost as if she was joking that it would end badly for them. They could handle it the newest droid, right? It wasn't that big, just twice the size of her classmate. Oh, woe is them, why did they choose this difficulty setting? As she spoke, Elke kept holding her own right hand in her left; it was a small reactionary response to the slight pulsing pain that came from it.[break]

Ren braced for the inevitable strike as the drone started to swing it's closest leg, but as it pulled back in preparation, Ren felt a sudden rush of air from behind. the bot's head turned just in time for a small shape to slam into it, the sounds of cracking ice and rending metal accompanying it as the whole frame went rigid. It had probably been enough to do the job, but the boy watched as Elke followed through and sent what was left of the weapon straight through the back of the thing's head. He let out a breath as his body untensed, resisting the urge to just collapse right there. He was on his knees, holding himself up with both arms planted firmly on the floor, breath ragged as it came out in clearly visible wisps. His hands couldn't so much feel the floor as the pressure his body put on them, and his limbs as a whole could best be described as frigid... all pretty clear signs that he'd been using his quirk a bit too long.
But they weren't done yet, were they? As Elke landed beside him, Ren took a deep breath in an attempt to steady his lungs, and then rose to one knee. He shot the girl a smile that almost did the job of hiding his fatigue. Almost. "Nice job, we're a third of the way there now." His gaze shifted forward toward the new droid as it finished deploying and rose up to its full height. Elke joked about how they'd have a hard time with this new arrival, but Ren actually recognized this one. He had seen a junior fighting one of these things before while they were waiting for classes to start, and it seemed to be giving them a little trouble at the time. Maybe that was what happened... if he hadn't cleared all of the settings from the previous session, then the scenario he chose might have been set up based on the second or third years.... which would certainly explain a lot. Either way this new bot was a tough one, he knew that much, but he didn't know how to beat it. Not that that would stop him from trying.
"Only one way to find out, right? Here, take this." He handed his halberd over to Elke to replace the weapon she'd just lost, and then pushed himself back onto his feet. His limbs were starting to get sluggish as he continued to lose feeling, and he swayed slightly when he stood. The sensation was one that he'd gotten pretty familiar with over the years, but it didn't make moving any easier when he got to this point. Luckily, his quirk allowed him a way to help deal with it. It went a little beyond his quirk's cover, but it wasn't the sort of thing where it wasn't immediately obvious what was happening.... he could probably get away with it now. "I'm going for it, let me know if you see any openings." As he spoke, ice crept up his arms and legs, forming a thin layer just on top of his skin, though most of it would be covered by his clothing. Just enough that he could reach out and take hold of it with his quirk, like a natural extension of his body.
When Ren started forward, he took off even faster than before, using the ice to pull himself along and augment his speed. Recognizing him as a rapidly approaching target, the robot's visor flared to life, a red gleam passing over it as it locked onto the boy. It shifted to the side as if settling into a martial arts stance and electricity crackled along a set of metal rods on its arms and legs. Ren raised an eyebrow but didn't slow his approach at all. Stun batons built directly into its limbs... right, he'd almost forgotten about that part. Just another thing to be mindful of. Throwing his free hand out to the side, he quickly formed a katana and shot off the ground like a bullet. He threw a wild slash at the machine's torso, but it was able to bring one of its arms up in time to meet the blade and there was a metallic ringing as the two clashed. It barely even budged. Sparks flew off the bot's arm as it locked with the frozen blade, and the thing's head just slowly turned to meet its challenger. Staring up at the gleaming red eye, only a single thought went through Ren's head.
"Scheisse."
Ren quickly brought his shield up, just barely making it in time to meet a punch from the droid's other arm. The ice did it's job blocking the strike, but not without shattering into hundreds of pieces in the process. The first year went flying back from the force of the impact, but thanks to the grip on his limbs he was able to slow himself enough to prevent real damage, his feet touching down on the wall of a nearby building for a brief moment before launching himself forward again. He lashed out with his weapon a second time, and though the machine was able to block again, this time he disengaged before it could land a counter hit, instead whiffing the air. It was obvious enough from that first exchange that they weren't going to beat this thing with brute force, so his only hope was to find an opening and hit it where it was weak.... where ever that was.
He hit the ground and darted to the side, spinning around a swipe from the thing's arm before delivering a counter to it's side. No dice, the blade only made the slightest of dents in its chassis before bouncing off. Ren ducked beneath a kick and then backed away before leaping back up onto the wall, eyes fixed firmly on his target the entire time. So it's armor was probably just as thick as the others'... which meant that he had to find a weak point. He was starting to get a feel for its reaction times, but as quick as he was at the moment, it was pretty hard to get past its guard. He needed to see more. Kicking off again, he cut past it's side and almost instantly found himself parrying off a boot from it's back leg, slipping out of the way and then sidestepping a follow up punch. And... there it was. He brought his katana down on the joint of his foe's elbow and felt the blade dig in... just a little bit though, it still wasn't enough, and he quickly leapt away before the drone could punish him for standing in one spot for too long.
Landing on the side of the opposite building, Ren shot down to the ground just in front of the drone and immediately leapt with a harsh uppercut. It got it's guard up in time, but the sudden change in direction seemed to knock it off balance a little, giving the boy his first real opening. "Gotcha." He bounced back and jumped up again, rising until he was level with his foe's head, his eyes locking on to that single red light. Perfect. His aim was right on point, and the katana blade thrust forward directly into the center of the machine's eye.
And it didn't work.
Rather than piercing right through, the blade carved along the side of the drone's face-plate, leaving behind a notable gash on the surface, but inevitably doing far less damage than Ren had been hoping for. Surprised at just how ineffective the blow had been, the blonde didn't notice as the robot spun around and threw a kick right into his side. The dull pain of the impact was followed almost immediately by a jolt of electricity and he felt the lower left side of his torso instantly go numb. A moment later he was tumbling back across the floor, catching himself and sliding to a stop just before he would have crashed into the far wall of the arena. A tingling sensation ran down the side of his stomach and his lower leg, the numbing effect making it even harder for him to move without the aid of his quirk. But he was determined to take this thing down now, and as he forced himself up once more, the ice on his limbs spread onto his torso. A heavy chill ran down his spine, but he ignored it and tightened his grip on his weapon before diving right back into the fray.

Elke sighed in relief as Ren began to stand up. He looked perfectly fine; she had been worried that she took too long to strike and Ren had been injured. From the way he stood up he seemed to be a bit winded, but that made sense after a few robots. Hopefully, the two of them had enough fight in them to finish these trials. It was still really hard to believe that they still had six more droids to run through. Staring at the droid from off in the distance, she tried to figure out some tactics to take this one out with. From its bipedal stance, it looked as if this one, in particular, was designed for combat not capture like the others seemed to be designed for. This was worrying, that showed that the other two were definitely easier to beat while this one would put up quite a fight. Since no others seemed to spawn, that meant it was designed for both of them to fight; their score was 2 to 1 currently, so Elke hoped to get the final blow.[break][break]
Her comrade responded to her joke that it would be harder, but she knew it would be deep down, perhaps he did too? A large pole of ice was practically thrust into her hands as it was offered, her reflexes grabbing it quickly. She hadn't noticed how off-balance her comrade was as the much larger weapon fell backwards onto her; it was heavy and long, and nearly impossible for her to keep airborne with its current weight balance. Falling over onto her back, the halberd slammed into the ground over her head where a sickening crack could be heard. Looking up at the halberd, the entire axe-head ended up cracking off and falling apart leaving behind an awkward looking spear; this seemed to reduce the weight by quite a lot, allowing her to stand up, and lift the new spear up. One could only hope the tip wasn't as brittle as the axe-head. Perhaps this was due to its recent striking against steel?[break][break]
As she balanced herself, now using the spear more as a walking stick than trying to hold the entire thing off the ground, she noticed that Ren seemed to create a strange form of ice-armour around his limbs. Interesting, she thought, why was he doing that now than later? Did he recognize this robot? Nodding in response to his words, Elke spoke aloud to confirm. "If I see one, I'll take it. Just listen for the wind." It was the truest thing she could say; if she shouted to him that she was attacking, the robot would immediately know. Perhaps it had already seen what she was capable of from taking down the earlier robots, but hopefully, it hadn't been witness to it. The cold from the spear itself pressed against her injured hand; the pain was almost completely gone from the cooling sensation.[break][break]
Following Ren forward, Elke kept herself as far back as possible while still being within surprise striking range. It seemed that the droid did not see her nearly as large of a threat as it saw Ren, as it appeared hyper-focused on the taller blonde. This was good, it allowed her to set up a striking position from out of its line of sight. Then, its arms began crackling with electricity. Ren's words took the thoughts out of her mind; it appeared both of them were on the same wavelength upon seeing crackling lightning. Did the just pick a fight with Thor?[break][break]
Ren engaged the droid, a single strike had sent him flying but he seemed to rebound. It was impressive, watching her teammate in combat; he was much better at fighting at the ground level than she was, but there were still some openings that she could exploit if needed; 'Elke why are you thinking about this at this time? Stop being impressed by Ren and take care of the droid!' Her own thoughts shouted at her as she braced the spear, and aligned herself towards the large robot. She'd have to fly with the spear like she was a missile to even cause any damage; at least with the sword it was easier to aim, it was much shorter than the spear itself.[break][break]
More acrobatics from Ren seemed to work on the droid quite well as it fell to one knee, and received quite a hefty gash to the head before it seemed to catch its own balance, and landed an electrified strike on Ren. "AH! REN!" She screamed instinctively as her thrusters kicked in. 'No! Too soon!' Her thoughts kicked in too late; her back thrusters had already activated and she started propelling toward the droid. She promised Ren she would wait for an opening, and this wasn't it; especially after she just announced her presence. Like a missile, she flew forward as the droids head turned to her. 'Oh no' was the only phrase that could go through her mind as its arm flew up to intercept her. Releasing the spear, and firing off to the side, she heard the crunch of metal once more; the forces from her launching at the droid propelled the spear right through its arm; perfect! That should render it's arm useless! Her slight celebration was too soon however as its other arm wheeled out and swatted the pixie.[break][break]
Feeling the brunt of the impact across her back, Elke's body propelled through the air. Gasping in pain, she felt her instincts kick in as her side thrusters tried to stabilize herself; she was about to impact and the most she could do was brace. Curling up, firing off her thrusters to stop herself from rolling, her body slammed into the ground next to ren; lucky for her she didn't weigh much and thus didn't have enough force to cause lasting damage. Unlucky for her, the thrusters on her back had been too far damaged to be used, each thruster visibly appearing bruised. Splayed out across the ground, she tried standing up; her back hurt, everything hurt. There wasn't much she could do now, she was out of commission; just how hard was this battle designed for?[break][break]
Rolling over in pain, she looked up at the tall droid. Its eyes flickered red, then green again, and back to red as it stared at Ren. Elke was defeated, it didn't see her as a threat anymore. Looking to her right, she watched as the ice spread further on his body. "You got this Ren. Gib dein Bestes." Her body didn't want to listen to her, but she slowly began crawling up to her knees. If she was absolutely needed, she still had some fight left in her; side thrusters, feet thrusters, and a single hand thruster was left.[break]

Just as Ren finished steadying himself, the sound of a heavy impact made him look up and see a small form tumbling through the air. He was in no condition to try to catch Elke, and he could only wince as he saw her bounce off the ground and come to a stop a few feet to his side. He froze in place for a moment as a genuine fear for his friend took over his mind, though the feeling passed when he saw that she started moving again. It was clear that she was in rough shape, he probably was too, but apparently she still had faith that he could handle this. He put on as confident an expression as he could manage and gave the girl a nod before turning his head back to face their opponent. What was left of the halberd was sticking through its elbow joint on the right arm, the same side that he had slashed. Even as he watched it, he could see the servo struggling and finally losing its battle; the last of the metal tearing away and leaving the limb to drop to the floor with a clatter. It was pretty clear by this point that they wouldn't be making it through the entire simulation at their current pace, but that didn't mean that they couldn't at least finish this thing off. "Yeah... I've got this."
A thick stream of white passed Ren's lips as he took one last deep breath, the ice finishing encasing his torso and spreading up around his head like a helmet. Basically his entire body was covered now, which gave his quirk more to hold on to and came with the added benefit of insulating him against any more of those nasty shocks. Even he could tell that he didn't have all that much left in him, but he'd make sure it was enough. He shifted his grip around his weapon and once again settled back into his kendo stance. Ahead, the drone appeared to take notice of its damage and shifted its stance to compensate for the lost limb. This whole time it had barely moved from its spot, and apparently it had no plans to change that as its red gaze continued to glare down at its last opponent. Fine, he'd take the fight to it. The boy's entire body tensed and he hunkered down low before he kicked off as hard as he could.
Ren was moving even faster this time, his golden eyes sharpening as they locked in on their target. From what he had seen, his best bet was aiming for the bot's joints, they were the softest target they'd found so far, though its quick movements would make landing hits fairly difficult... Luckily Elke's last act had given him the best chance he could hope for.
Though he approached from head on, at the last second he darted around to the side, trying get at its damaged flank. A sweeping kick tried to intercept him, but the blonde slid beneath the limb and flipped up to deliver cut to the back of its knee. The bot staggered slightly at the impact and quickly pivoted, bringing its leg back for a front kick. Ren weaved to the side and traced down the extended limb with his blade for another nick at the side of the knee. Again, there was the slightest of wobbles, and for the first time the machine had to take a step back. The boy stepped into the gap and parried off a swipe from its remaining arm before ducking another kick. His eyes locked onto the joint for a third strike, but as his blade swung the bot shifted just slightly to the side. It had figured out what he was trying to do. The katana hit high by a few inches, leaving a scrape on the armor but nothing more, and before the student could react the drone swatted him away with the electrified side of its arm.
Ren clenched his jaw as the blow connected with his chest. The ice had done its job stopping the current from going through, but the thing still hit like a truck and he was sent sailing again. Flying back through the air, he stabilized himself with his quirk and reached out to grab hold of a lamp post before throwing himself back the way he came. With a rebound off of one of the buildings he shot toward the droid and slashed wide. As expected, it brought its arm around to block, but as the boy bounced off he hit the wall behind it and rebounded again, this time slamming feet first into its side. That caused the machine to stagger back, and when Ren hit the ground he dove into the opening just as fast as he could. His blade found purchase while his target regained its balance, digging even further into the metal and finally revealing the skeleton within.
Ren backed off as his foe finished steadying itself and he once again found himself staring it down. He had forced it to move enough that its back was to one of the buildings now, and the damage to its knee made its stance look a bit awkward. But that eye was just as focused as ever. One more solid hit would do it, that's what the first year told himself. The thing's leg would come off and then it was as good as done. Another chill crept along his spine, this one even worse than the last, but his hold on his weapon just tightened as he fought it back. He just needed one more hit.
The blonde waited only a second longer before his muscles tensed and he sprang right back in again. The first slash was easily blocked and he shifted sideways to avoid the counter, then lurched right back the way he came. Hopping over a low sweep from the machine's good leg, he tried again and once again the electrified arm got in his way. He darted back and drew out another kick before going in one last time. As the leg pulled back, he rushed in and slipped his blade under it before leaping straight up. He caught the back of the undamaged knee and the rising motion caused it to lose balance again for the briefest of moments, but a brief moment was all the student needed. He hit the wall above the machine and instantly shot back down toward the now-unguarded rear leg.
It happened so fast that Ren wasn't even entirely sure what happened. As he came rushing in toward his target, the droid pivoted on its damaged limb and somehow managed to get its arm down in time. Ren's katana was deflected off the metal rod and before he could disengage, the thing's hand shot out and grabbed hold of him. It snatched him out of the air and slammed him into the wall, causing most of the breath to leave his lungs in a single large white cloud. A second later his entire world turned upside down as it swung him around and threw him to the floor. He grunted as he landed face down, the pain that should have resulted made much less potent by the fact that his limbs were rather numb by now. Pushing through it, his eyes shot up to see his target within reach. His katana swung out to the side and- the bot's other foot came down on top of it and there was a loud crunch.
The world seemed to slow down as Ren watched the shards of his sword go flying. In the reflection of a particularly large chunk, he could see the droid reaching down toward him again, ready to finish its job. Was that it then? They lost? No... he couldn't accept that, not when they were so close to taking this stupid thing out. Ren looked up, glaring in defiance at the hand that reached for him. With a growl he slammed his palm into the ground and he could feel another wave of heat rush from his body. His armor shattered and a pulse of ice surged out from where his hand touched, spreading to cover every surface within twenty feet. A deafening crack sounded out as the ground beneath the training droid seemed to explode. A mass of ice erupted upward, taking on the shape of an enormous blade as it rose and carved into the machine. The creaking of ice was joined by the rending of metal and the massive formation lifted it off the ground and carried it toward the ceiling. Rising to a height of about fifteen feet, the tip of the blade hit the side of the building and pinned the drone in place for a moment before the metal finally gave way and was torn asunder.
Ren blinked several times as he watched the scraps come raining down, a mix of awe and surprise as he looked up at the great spire of ice. How the hell did he do that? The question would hang in his mind as his arms gave out, no longer supported by the frozen shell, and he collapsed completely.
When the last pieces of the machine had come to a rest, there was a brief pause before a computerized voice announced "All participants neutralized, objective failed. Ending simulation."

Elke watched in surprise as she saw the fruition of her strike; the entire arm of the large droid falling to the ground with a large slam. If anything, at least she dealt such a heavy strike that maybe, just maybe, Ren could take it out on his own. It was surprising, really, seeing Ren's abilities in combat. The man practically entombed himself in ice before charging into combat even faster than he was before. With each swing Elke was swelling up with anticipation until a single blow landed on Ren, a simple hissing sound emanated from the girl as she sucked in air, empathizing with the pan that such a blow would deal and yet after such a strike he still rebounded, landing one final blow on the droid before starting to collapse.[break][break]
As if in response to seeing Ren fall, Elke fired blasts of air from her feet, launching her towards the man in an attempt to stop him from hitting the ground too hard. Her mind screamed out but her own pain was too much. Most of her thrusters had been taken out, making this flight exceptionally hard. Rather than flying straight, she cartwheeled through the air losing balance; if this continued, she wouldn't be able to stop in time. In one final attempt to stabilize herself, she fired a shot from her remaining hand; she hadn't paid attention to her current state. Liquified air sprayed out of her hand, freezing on contact for a brief moment to the world around her, and her hand itself. A quick shout of pain ensued as the valve clamped down, refusing to open once more; to her, it was worth the price. In sequence with the spray from her valve, a familiar cracking was heard, prompting Elke to meet her gaze on Ren once more.[break][break]
A huge field of ice had been made, and the robot had been impaled and torn apart just like the drone had been earlier that day; it was impressive really, that quirk had some crazy uncontrolled power. Much closer than before, Ren began to fall and Elke was here to 'catch' him, as much as one could; in reality, she broke his fall slightly. "Blech." Was the only sound she could make. It hurt but was definitely worth it. Pushing as much as she could to get the boy to stand up, she heard the loudspeaker. The simulation was over; that was certainly quick. Elke was completely out of air as well; looking at herself she could see just how emaciated she was. Even to her, it didn't look right, but she felt no different. Her only fear was how Ren would behave on seeing it.[break][break]
Speaking of which, boy, this boy was chilly. "Ren, you're super cold... Are you ok?" No care for herself, she spoke to the boy atop her, hoping he was still awake. "We need to get you to the..." she winced from the pain of her left hand, her attempts to get Ren up stopped entirely as her hand warmed up and the pain came. "... get you to the nurse's office." In the worst case scenario, if Ren was too tired to stand up, Elke could procure her phone from her pocket; it had quite a heavy duty security case as it often fell out while she was mid-flight. If it was still in her pocket, and not broken from the earlier strike she took, she could use it to call for help.[break]

Ren swayed as his strength ebbed away, leaving behind nothing but a chill. No longer supported by the mental focus of having a target or the pulsing flow of adrenaline, his mind finally registered just how cold he was. His whole body was shivering as he crouched among the ice, and a thin layer of frost clung to his hands, making it look almost like they had freezer burn. His eyelids were feeling heavy, and without really thinking about it he just let them close. As the world went dark he started to fall forward, a fact that his brain barely registered while it was focused on the far more powerful sensation. It was just so cold.
Some part of him expected there to be pain, but before it came he could feel something slowing his fall as he collapsed on top of it. There shouldn't have been anything there, there wasn't anything a second ago, but whatever it was, it was warm... Everything else felt so cold and far away, but this was comfortable. It made him not want to move at all, just lay there in the warmth... and then he heard a voice. It was a familiar one, and it was close... but that didn't make any sense, who could possibly be...?
Ren forced himself to shake away the fog and opened his eyes to see his classmate in front of him... well, under him was more accurate. She'd broken his fall? "....Elke? W-what..." It took a second for his brain to catch up and remember where he was, but after another shake of his head to clear things up, he finally registered Elke's worries. "Y-yeah, I'll be f-f-fine. J-just, g-give me a s-s-second." The boy stammered through chattering teeth, and then immediately tried to move to get off of the poor girl. It was an interested exercise, to say the least. While his limbs did still move, the feeling just wasn't there and he had almost no feedback, making the motions both sluggish and clumsy. It was almost like watching someone else try to move your body, but after a second he managed to roll off to the side and prop his back up against the wall of the building.
Now that there was some space between them, Ren could actually see that his friend's physical state had changed quite a bit. Not only were there obvious signs of some fresh bruises, but she was even smaller than normal. It wasn't just her height either, more like her body had deflated and she was down to just skin and bones. He blinked a few times at the sight; such a drastic change could only be the result of a quirk, but it was impossible to know what exactly someone's drawbacks entailed. "W-what ab-bout you? Are y-you alright?" Quirk or not, she'd taken a few pretty good hits from those drones. Hell, they both had.
Though his response to the girl's question had practically been automatic, looking at himself now he could tell he wasn't in the greatest shape. His skin was pale, the frost was continuing to crawl slowly upward, and in general he was pretty well beat up. And yet he could barely feel any of it... it had been quite awhile since the last time he had pushed his abilities this hard, not since he'd left the Yamaki household. As much as heat always bothered him, the utter lack of it that came from going this hard was a much worse feeling. This time he'd probably managed to give himself a bit of mild frostbite in addition to the rest of his injuries, and while it didn't hurt now, it definitely would later. Elke was right of course, getting to the nurse's office was probably in their best interest, but Ren doubted he'd be able to get there in his current state even with his classmate's help. He would probably just end up falling over on her again... no, better to at least wait until a little bit of the feeling came back first.
Of course, the easiest way to do that was to warm up, and after leaning his head back against the building for a few seconds, Ren glanced towards Elke with a timid look. "S-s-sorry... c-could you do me a f-favor and j-just sit with m-me f-for a m-minute?" A hint of red entered his expression as he motioned to the space next to him and turned his gaze away from the girl.

It was getting rather hard to breathe, underneath the weight of her classmate. Elke didn't mind though, she was where she wanted to be, next to Ren. Wait, what was she thinking? Ren was her classmate! Her own cheeks turned red at the situation, but it had seemed that the frozen boy caught on to her presence. At first, he seemed confused as she kept pressing to try to make him stand; the cold was painful on her frostbitten hand, but soothing to the bruised one; it made her wince in pain, but that was fine. Finally, the boy responded to her question but it was full of stammering sounds like he was feeling the cold himself. Crazy Ren, is this what happens when you go too far?[break][break]
Both of them had gone too far, but to her, she knew Ren might have gone much farther than her. "Y...yeah I'm fine." She finally sat herself up fully before looking over herself. 'Oh no!' She thought. She did go much farther than she needed to; her clothes were barely able to fit her body in her current shape. Knowing that seeing her in such a state might be worrying to her friend, she started focusing on filling her quirk with air. The deepest crevices on her skeletal like body slowly began to fill once more, but it was exceptionally slow. With mass fatigue and lots of physical trauma, it becomes much too difficult to fill her quirk; After it filled even a slight bit, she yelped in pain as her skin moved around areas where the bruises were located. In response to the pain, her quirk ejected air out of both of her shoulders, but nowhere near the speed at which it used to fire out, almost like the air was entering her mouth but immediately exiting her shoulders. 'Ow... yeah I really am too beat up huh?' She thought to herself, worry covering her face for a few moments before she attempted a smile for Ren's sake.[break][break]
The smile didn't last however, as Ren leaned back against the building. It wasn't replaced with a frown, but instead, a shocked expression as the boys face turned red, with hers changing in kind. 'Is he asking...' Elke had to ask herself to make sure she wasn't hearing things. '...to cuddle for warmth?' Her face turned beet red as both her hands came up to her face as panic ensued in her thoughts. There was a spot right next to the boy that demanded her presence, but she couldn't, could she? Of course, she could, Ren needed help. This was just to help keep him warm, yeah! Her face still completely red she averted her gaze from him and scuttled right next to him, pressing against the cold boy and curling up.[break][break]
Warming up such a meat-popsicle had to take such a long time, however, and Elke couldn't wait for him to be able to walk on his own. Keeping her beat red face away from Ren, she pulled out her phone and began frantically sending messages to the public student chat. Luckily, Akasu seemed to be monitoring the chat at the time. She was given a few instructions to help with Ren, most of which was to keep him talking. Of course, don't let him fall asleep in such a state; Elke was panicking. She was not good at this kind of situation, not even the slightest. All she could do was turn towards her cold comrade, and wrap her arms around the man himself. He was so cold that even her own body started to turn numb from the sensation. Hopefully, it was working.[break][break]
"It'll be alright Ren... Mr Naibun is on the way." Her voice struggled from her own pain, but she kept a smile on her face and tried to sound as calm as possible. "Just... let's... keep talking until he... gets here." Each pause was a slight wince of pain. She had no idea what kind of situation Ren truly was in, but to her, it looked far grimmer than it might have been. People aren't supposed to be this cold.[break]

Ren kept his gaze averted as his classmate moved over to his side, and so he didn't see the girl's own expression, instead just staring down at the ground. "S-sorry Elke..." He repeated shyly, glad that the process usually only took a few minutes... although back home he had had the benefit of a heated blanket to help with the task, so it would probably be just a bit longer than he was used to... It probably wasn't a bad idea to start bringing one of those along for training again. Still, as embarrassed as he was, it was working. As soon as Elke took the spot next to him, he could feel the warmth against his side and it slowly started to spread through his body. It was the same comfortable feeling that he'd felt while he was still dazed, and after a moment he let his eyes close and his head rest back against the wall again.
He was just about to nod off when he felt his classmate shift slightly, and although his sense of touch was still almost non-existent, he could feel the warmth spread further. As she spoke, Ren opened his eyes to see that she had pulled in closer and put her arms around him, leaving her face rather close to his own. "Wha-?" In an instant, his face became just as bright red as Elke's and he turned away again, a burning sensation in his cheeks making itself known despite the fact that he was still ice cold. No longer feeling the slightest bit drowsy, his heartbeat started to pick up and his mind struggled to process what was happening. The boy hadn't actually been asking her to do anything but sit next to him until he could stand properly, but if the goal had been to warm him up faster, then it was probably working.
In his mental panic, Ren had almost missed what Elke had actually said and it took a second for it to register either way. She had contacted the school's nurse and the man was on his way to them... alright, that made sense. Akasu Naibun's presence brought its own issues with it, due to the nature of his healing worked, but given the shape they were in, it was unlikely that they could get around that either way. From the sounds of it, Elke was hurting pretty badly, and from experience he knew that he would be before long as well. Because of that, when she insisted that they keep talking, Ren figured that she probably needed the distraction just as much as he did right now.
It took a second to think of something to talk about, but Ren eventually started talking again, his stutter no longer caused by the shivering alone. "G-got any s-stories about home? I h-haven't b-been b-back to the city in a f-few y-years." He asked, still avoiding looking at his classmate out of fear that he face would get even redder.

Post by Akasu Naibun on May 14, 2019 21:27:44 GMT
After receiving the message via the student messaging app Akasu felt like he had to check constantly incase anything of importance was said on there (not that there usually was, it was mainly...teenagers being teenagers with their raging hormones, random in jokes and… memes or whatever it was.) but he supposed it was a good thing he stayed on the server even after the Villain incident as there was instances, like today. He DID wonder why the hell the kids didn’t just press the emergency stop button situated in every simulator room but...oh well, whatever.
If he just got past the school day (which was almost over…) then he could go to that new yakiniku restaurant that he really wanted to check out, the photos looked so good! It was the one thought keeping him going through today as he made his way to the room that was indicated by the first year student, he did have a stretcher just in case, along with blankets as the girl mentioned being cold, but he hoped he could just solve everything there and then.
Sliding his staff ID into the keycard reader, he opened the room door and found two students huddling together, both of them witht heir faces bright red and it didn't even look like it was due to cold... God, was this what U.A students did for dates these days? What happened to just going to a family restaurant for parfaits instead?? Jesus christ…
However, his thoughts were not projected onto his features, which remained rather professional as grey eyes scanned over the two checking for injuries.
“Are you both okay?”
He asked, walking over to the two and throwing the blankets over the two. Seeing as the girl seemed to be very concerned about the boy, he guessed he should ask first…
“What happened? Is this an overuse of your quirk? Ren-san, I am sure you are aware of how my quirk works? I will need you to tell me something you feel is confidential…”
He checked over what he could.
“...atleast decently confidential.”
He hoped to god this boy wasn’t like Ace Pilot, who didn’t really have any secrets to begin with which rendered his quirk useless when they used to be Pro heroes. Well, at least both seemed to be conscious which was a good thing...

There was little time the two had left together before Akasu was able to arrive, but despite that, it seemed that Ren was getting more and more tired. From the way he was stuttering, it seemed like the cold wasn't getting better; if only she knew this was due to their close proximity. He asked for stories of the city, something Elke did not have very many of. "I... don't have many stories from back home." She grimaced a little. "Other than some silly things with my dad but those aren't interesting." Elke wasn't telling the truth, she just didn't want to talk about her life back home; it would bring back far too many memories that she missed.[break][break]
A beep came from the door across the building, echoing its way to the pair. Looking up from Ren's shoulder, she saw what could only be assumed as Akasu Naibun; she didn't remember when she met the man first but she had never found herself in the infirmary since her start at UA. "Look... Akasu is here... it'll be alright." Elke's voice slowed down. Unlike Ren who must have been able to handle the exceptional cold, Elke's body didn't have that luxury. She was shivering heavily and started to feel colder and colder, but she didn't want to release Ren. A voice called out from the man that joined before heavy blankets landed over them. Ah, warmth, that feels so good.[break][break]
At this point Elke looked more pitiful than embarrassed; her body was battered and cold, everything hurt and she couldn't fill her quirk with air leading to emaciated body shape. All Elke could do is a nod to Akasu in response to the first question. Everything certainly felt 'ok' now that the school nurse was there. From what was said by Akasu, it seemed as though his quirk had special requirements for it. Something about telling something confidential? A secret? That's an odd quirk requirement. Elke closed her eyes and let her body go limp with both of her arms still wrapped around Ren instinctively. She wasn't asleep, just physically tired from both the over exertion and the bruising she received.[break]

Post by Ren Wolff on May 19, 2019 22:33:02 GMT
It didn't take long for the pain to start. Even as Elke went about answering his question, Ren could feel a tingling sensation starting to spread out from where the girl rested against him. The top layer of skin was just beginning to thaw, and though his sense of touch would still be awhile longer, the tingling soon gave way to a burning sensation that grew ever stronger as the feeling returned, especially along his arms. While it was still relatively mild for now, Ren knew that this wouldn't be the case for too much longer, and his embarrassment about the position he was in was rather quickly forgotten. 'You've dealt with this before, just tune it out...' He told himself, doing his best to keep his mind on the conversation instead of the burn.
"W-well, that's alright. H-how ab-bout s-something else then..." Ren forced himself to continue, but before he could latch on to another topic, a sound from across the room caught his attention. The door swung open and his classmate voiced her relief as a familiar face approached them. The appearance of the nurse was certainly welcome, and as the man covered them with blankets Ren clumsily tried to wrap himself up more, finding little success as the movements generated more pain from his limbs. Giving up after a moment, he nodded in response to Akasu's question about his current state. Y-yeah... Th-the cold will pass, b-but... With a bit of effort, he held up the arm that wasn't pinned in place by his classmate. In addition to some rather obvious bruises, the skin was red and raw below his forearm; swollen slightly around his joints. The early stages of second degree frostbite, not bad enough to cause any permanent damage, but even with the advantages of his quirk it could put him out of commission for several days if left to heal on its own.
Akasu's abilities offered a way around that issue but, as the man said, it came with it's own costs. Ren was probably more conscious than most about how the quirk worked. He needed a secret in exchange, and though one immediately came to the boy's mind, it was one that he couldn't exactly let go of so easily. How exactly would a member of the faculty react if they found out that one of their students wasn't who they said they were? At the very least, Akasu had given a clear warning back during the orientation, and Ren had had plenty of time to come up with a few back-ups.
"Y-yeah, I know how it w-works..." He hesitated for a moment before continuing timidly. "W-when I left home, I k-kinda 'b-borrowed' some money f-from one of m-my cousins without asking." The fact that it had probably never been noticed in the first place, or that he had secretly payed most of it back already, was besides the point.
As he spoke, Ren felt Elke shift once again. Finally looking back her direction, he could see that the girl appeared to be one the verge of passing out, eyes closed and arms just kinda hanging off of him. Concern took the place of the previous embarrassment, and Ren quickly looked back toward the school nurse with an expression that reflected his thoughts. "N-naibun-s-sensei, Maybe you should t-take c-care of her f-first." At this point, uncomfortable was probably an understatement for the sensation that he now felt across his body, but though the pain grew and he was certainly tired, the damage was already done. Waiting a few minutes longer to make sure Elke was fine wouldn't make the injuries any worse.

Akasu helped pull the blanket around the teenage boy, and once he had assessed his injuries he put his hand on Ren’s ice cold hand. When the student spoke and the connection was established, the man’s eyes shone gold for a moment, spreading out to his head, then covering his whole body, down his arm, hand and connecting with Ren’s hand. His quirk, “Truth is Justice” started to work, speeding up the boy’s natural healing process the amount the weight of the secret was by. He didn’t even bat an eyelid, he had clearly heard far worse over the time he had been a student, then hero, now UA school nurse. Though it had always been his policy to forget them as soon as he heard them, mainly for his own sake.
He turned his attention to the girl while keeping a hand on the boy’s, reaching out to gently but firmly shake the silver haired teen’s shoulder.
“Elke-san? Elke-san I need you to open your eyes. I need to speak to you and inspect your injuries. Can you hear me??”
His voice was clear, from the years he had done this in even worse conditions to him it was another day of work. Ah, that secret must have been decently weighty, as he could feel his quirk reacting accordingly. He was relieved, as the worst thing was when a secret wasn’t enough at all and even after layering a few, wasn’t suffice to heal someone of their injuries.
“You are also aware of how my quirk works, yes? I need you to tell me something of decent confidentiality also.”
Akasu said in his firm, reassuring tone as he put his hand over the girl’s. Yes, she was definitely colder...

The cold that seemed to slowly imprison her friend was soothing, lulling her to sleep. After the first few sharp bits of pain, it started to feel soothing on her own injuries. With the addition of the blanket, it only made it easier for her to seem to doze off, and that she did. The last thing she saw before her eyes closed was Akasu reaching out to Ren, and her consciousness seemed to deteriorate to the point where audio was starting to muffle greatly; to her, it felt like she was out like a light.[break][break]
Suddenly a quick shake of her shoulder started to rouse her from her slumber. Opening her eyes slightly, she looked at the man that shook her to get her attention. Everything was blurry and she felt dizzy and numb, the combination of blunt trauma that she sustained during the fight followed by hugging a living ice cube was nearly too much on her. From a blurred vision, all that she saw was black hair and a familiar skin tone. "Nnnoo let me sleep more daddy..." her voice droned off before she heard her name; that wasn't her dad's voice. Wait, she was still at UA and dad was in Germany. Jolting up from her slumber, the fight or flight response kicked in as adrenaline flooded her system. Her nerves were firing on full alert, causing pins and needles to shoot all over her numbed body. A brief panic would ensue as she instinctively sought asylum within the blanket wrapped over the two, but it was short-lived as she'd pop her head out in response to Akasu.[break][break]
Normally she would have responded quickly, but she knew what she had been doing before the nurse showed up; she was hugging Ren to help keep him warm. With a face turning bright red, she shook her head no but then shook yes as she remembered. Secrets. Secrets were the source of Secretkeepers healing. Perhaps she could tell the reason she was here? A quick glance at her frostbitten hand and she knew that was the closest she could give.[break][break]
"S-so... several years ago papa would always tell me stories about his friend, Wolff. About all of their heroic deeds and such, then he just stopped. Papa always said that Wolff enjoyed their job..." she paused. Remembering the sorrowful expression on her father's face around the time. As she did, her own expression turned sombre. "I told him I wanted to be a hero. At the time it was a lie just to make papa happy but now I want to be more and more like papa's friend but... I'm afraid I'll just hurt papa in trying." Elke's expression seemed like she was going to cry but she shook her head and gained a determined, defiant scowl. "But there's nothing wrong in trying right?" She waited to feel whatever it was that the Secretkeepers quirk could do, but whether or not it was working she couldn't tell; her body was still too numb from the cold.[break][break]
"Is... is that good enough?" Her face was now a bit more confused than before, but returned back to concern when she glanced over at Ren; the boy was still frosty with pain in his eyes. "Ren... are... are you going to be alright?" [break]

Post by Ren Wolff on May 28, 2019 13:19:22 GMT
Ren watched with fascination as a golden light spread out from Akasu's eyes and across his body. When the light reached the boy's hand, it continued its spread, stretching up his arm and soon covering the entirety of his form. At first there wasn't anything but the same tingling and burning sensation, but once he'd been completely covered the quirk went into action. Fueled by the nurse's ability, his body rapidly accelerated the healing process, which was an odd enough feeling in itself. With his skin rapidly warming back to normal temperatures, he let out a surprised grunt of pain as the burning sensation intensified greatly for the briefest of moments, then faded away. The numbness completely subsided before the pain was even gone, and though it was far from a pleasant feeling, Ren looked down to see the bruises and swelling vanish before his eyes. He could even have sworn that he felt one of the bones in his arm shift slightly... Maybe he had been in worse shape than he thought, though considering he hadn't been able to feel most his body, that wasn't exactly surprising.
When the light faded Ren flexed his hand a few times to test the limb, finding himself rather surprised at just how effective the treatment had been... but that was why he was the school nurse, right? "Thank you, Naibun-sensei." The boy said, bowing his head before turning his attention back to his classmate. Elke's reaction upon regaining awareness drew a soft smile, but when she started to tell Akasu her 'secret', Ren found himself looking away and the expression faded. Someone from his family inspired her to become a hero? Sure, it wasn't really odd for people to look up to the more successful heroes and want to emulate them, but this was a bit different than that. More personal. "That's..." He trailed off, unable to find the words for the complicated feeling and kind of wishing he hadn't heard it in the first place. The truth was that he didn't really know all that much about his mother's side of the family. Sure, there were the stories from his uncle, but he hadn't even made the decision to become a hero until after he had left Germany. And now he was wearing their name without really knowing the weight behind it.
A distant expression took hold of his features, but only for a moment before Elke addressed him again and he returned to the same soft smile from a moment ago. "Yeah, I'm going to be fine. Thanks Elke." Pulling the blanket tighter now that he actually could, the blonde's eyes trailed off toward the massive spire of ice that still stood only a few feet away, the main body of the training drone still stuck to the tip. Yep, there was still a long way to go.

Hot air started to blast out of the overhead vents as the system tried to regulate the temperature in the room automatically now that the simulation was turned off. The man listened to the girl’s words, nodding to show he understood. His quirk activated again- in Akasu’s opinion, the biggest issue with this quirk was unless it was an extremely large, life saving secret...he wouldn’t really tell how effective it will be on the target until it worked it’s course. Ultimately, it really was a first aid quirk rather than any permanent solution like some other healing quirks, but well, he had to make use of what he had.
“One both of you have received first aid, we will move to my office and I’ll do a check over to make sure my quirk has managed to heal most of your injuries and there’s no permanent damage done. I will be informing your homeroom teacher of this incident...”
He could picture Sato-sensei’s face already. Thankfully, it wasn’t really his job nor policy to lecture kids on the dumb things they did to end up in his care, he used to do it a lot back when he was a pro hero but he was pretty sure he had almsot seen it all by now.
“How do you both feel? Can you stand?”
He asked as he moved his hand away from the girl once he felt his quirk effects dissipate from his own body.
