The demands of pro heroism were many and sundry. Physical skills sat at the forefront of that portfolio in most scenarios; while some heroes could get by with smarts or strategy alone, almost every single caped crusader who took to the field needed to be in their best shape in order to ensure that they were up to snuff. So it was that every aspiring hero at U.A. was prescribed their own specific physical training regimen -- ensuring that they learned the skills required to keep themselves in top physical condition and always push their limits. It was one such regimen that had Chiura at the school pool most afternoons. Her body was ill-suited to distance running as a form of cardiovascular exercise, but it was incredibly well suited to the water. As such, she spent most of her afternoons pushing her limits in the olympic-sized lap pool that the school provided for just such occasions. Most of the students who frequented the pool area had long since left for dinner; as such, Chiura had the run of the place to herself. She sighed in relief as she exited the locker room; she hated revealing more of herself than was strictly necessary around her peers, so she was thrilled to see that she was, at least for the moment, alone. Chiura tugged at the hem of her swim top, glancing down at herself sheepishly. She had received written permission from the administration to wear her own swimsuits, as her body wasn't exactly designed for one-piece affairs. Still, she didn't particularly like the way that this one clung to her -- not that it ultimately mattered, given her solitude. Chiura took one, two, three deep breaths at the edge of the poolside. All was quiet, save the gentle churning of the water in the mechanically-cleaned pool. All was well -- and a moment later, she took the opportunity to leap into the pool. Her body flew through the air like a released spring coil, up and then straight down as she dove into the deep end of the water. She darted across the surface of the water like a proper sea serpent, blazing through the liquid and sending waves darting in either direction. Chiura hummed happily to herself as she began to breathe more heavily when afforded the opportunity. She was in her element; for the moment, at least, she was comfortable.

[googlefont="Open Sans"] [googlefont="PT Sans"] CRANK UP THE VOLUME AND WAKE UP THE NEIGHBORS aRE YOU HEARING THIS OR WHAT? Emiko was a girl today. It was the same decision she made every morning, normally it was a spur of the moment thing. But today she had decided to go to the pool after classes. It had been a while since she had gone swimming and felt it would be something fun. And if she was gonna go swimming why not go as a girl so she could get an eyeful of all the cute girls who had the same idea. Even if they were in school swimsuits that was still fine by her. In fact some of the girls here probably looked better in a one piece like that. With a wide grin on her face she made her way into the locker room. It was kind of quiet though she didn’t think much of it.
Changing out of her normal old school uniform she took a moment to try and decide if she should pull a little prank though decided against it. Taking a hold of her swimsuit she pressed it against her front and began to absorb the one piece with her name written across the front of it. Absorbing the one piece into her body she quickly moved it around so that it was put on properly. The one thing she never liked about these stupid things was having to put them on. After trying to do it normally once she gave up and simply used her quirk to put absorb the suit and then just have it pop out so that she was wearing the thing properly.
Heading out of the locker room Emiko frowned at just how quiet it was. Where was everyone? This had turned into much more of a disappointment than she had been hoping for. It looked like the place was practically empty, save for someone swimming in the pool across from where she was. From this angle she couldn’t really see much of the other girl. For now though she didn’t pay much attention to the other student as it seemed they were busy with their swimming. A perfect time to make a grand entrance. Suddenly reverting back to its slime form and absorbing it’s suit into its body Emiko stayed low to the ground, almost flat as it wiggled its away across the slick tiled floor towards the high dive platforms. When it got behind the ladder to go up Emiko reverted to her human form and once again let her swimsuit pop out of her so that she was wearing it properly. Quietly but quickly she made her way up the ladder until she was at the highest diving platform. Peeking over the edge she saw something odd. That other girl swimming was… loooong. She looked like she was some kind of mermaid… or maybe like an eel mermaid. An Eelmaid? Or maybe a Mereel? Huh. That was actually pretty cool. Waiting until the other student was near the deep end Emiko jumped off the high dive with reckless abandon.
“CANNONBALL!” she shouted as she fell towards the water. Despite being lighter than a normal human her size she fell at the same rate since that’s how physics works. However even as she pulled her legs up towards her chest and hit the water she didn’t make nearly as large of a slash as someone her size normally would. There would be a grin on her face as she splashed into the water but she had something else in mind entirely. Just as she passed the surface of the water she once again reverted into her natural slime like form, rather than absorbing her swimsuit though she let it go and float to the top of the water instead. With her body being a translucent blue she would be harder to spot inside the pool and since she could “hold her breath” for longer than a normal human she could stay underwater for longer before needing to come up to “breath.”

Chiura's laps were interrupted by a sudden clarion cry as a girl dove from high above, colliding with the water a moment later and sending ripples throughout the pool. "H-Hey!" she exclaimed, slithering quickly out of the pool and casting her gaze towards the center of the ripples. "What are you -- buh?"
Chiura's eyes flared yellow from their typical blue as her pupils narrowed into reptilian slits. She searched the water as best as she could, but she couldn't for the life of her find anyone in the pool... Just a stray swimsuit that seemed to be without an owner.
Chiura's blood ran cold (or, well, colder than usual). Where had the unruly diver gone?! Was she hurt? Was she injured at the bottom of the pool?! She hissed, concern filling her substantial form as she dove back into the water. She snatched the suit in short order before taking a large gulp of air and diving under the water's surface.
The film over her eyes was quite effective; seeing underwater wasn't too difficult, though the chlorine did sting. She darted through the waters of the pool from corner to corner in short bursts, her tail convulsing and undulating like a great fin as she tried to find the potentially injured student.
Try as she might, she was nowhere to be found... Chiura settled down at the bottom of the pool, coiling tight even as her breath began to give way. Surely she'd be able to find the girl if she just sat still for a moment...!

[googlefont="Open Sans"] [googlefont="PT Sans"] CRANK UP THE VOLUME AND WAKE UP THE NEIGHBORS aRE YOU HEARING THIS OR WHAT? Letting itself slowly fall towards the bottom of the pool Emiko couldn’t exactly see or hear anything. The major limiting factor of this form was the lack of any sensory input besides touch. However it cold feel when the other student splashed into the water and began moving around. The waves that they sent through the water did jostle the slime around a bit. Suddenly taking on a human form again Eimko had the same female form from before though leaving the more sensitive areas featureless, essentially making her sexless. However rather than making her body look like a normal human she remained the same translucent blue that she was in her slime form only now looking like a humanoid slime monster from a video game. It reminded her of the few years where she was stuck like this and couldn’t change the colors of her outer layers to look more human. Now that she could see Emiko quickly spotted the eel like girl and slowly swam towards her. It seemed like the other girl had been searching around the pool to no avail.
Coming from the side Emiko slowed herself down until she gently glide right in front of the other girl a few feet away. Putting on a large grin she made only her head and hair change into their more “normal” human coloration. Pale skin and golden eyes with electric blue hair. With only her head this color and not the rest of her body she would seem like the cheshire cat straight out of wonderland, the wide grin across her face only adding to the effect. Unfortunately even though she had created a replica of a pair of lungs inside her body so that she could speak, she hadn’t been able to take in any air so she didn’t exactly make any sounds as she did this. That didn’t stop her from making the motions as if she were laughing.

Chiura was inwardly thankful that she had shed her tail a few days ago; had she been later in her molting cycle she almost assuredly would have leapt out of her skin. Her shriek of surprise was muted by the water, but difficult to miss all the same as she propelled herself to the surface and over towards the pool's edge. Scampering out and onto the wet tile, she pressed a hand to her heaving chest as she tried to catch her breath.
She had to call a teacher. She had to go and tell them that some poor student had been DECAPITATED IN THE POOL.
...But wait. That didn't make any sense. The head hadn't seem distressed at all; in fact, it had seemed quite amused by the entire situation. It certainly wasn't behaving as if it had been even minorly inconvenienced, let alone having been separated from its body. Was -- was this someone's quirk...?
She stared down into the water, fangs peeking out as she bit nervously on her lower lip. "H-Hey, miss pool ghost? Are -- are you alright in there? You gave me quite the sssssscare...!"
The yellow, reptilian features faded from her eyes as she calmed herself. The urge to strike out, or to burrow away into something warm and soft, was subsiding. She doubted that whatever was haunting her swim could hear her from where it was -- but she still felt obligated to try. What on earth was going on here...? Chiura's pool-slicked tail flicked to and fro with rampant, obvious nerves.

[googlefont="Open Sans"] [googlefont="PT Sans"] CRANK UP THE VOLUME AND WAKE UP THE NEIGHBORS aRE YOU HEARING THIS OR WHAT? If she had any air in her lungs Emiko would be laughing her ass off at the reaction she got. Basically what she had expected. There were a few people she had met so far who she was sure wouldn’t freak out even if they did see a decapitated head. But even some of her friends from General Studies she could still get from time to time with her pranks. As the other girl swam away in a panic Emiko made her head translucent again as she swam towards the edge of the pool. She could hear that something was said though with the water in her ears she couldn’t quite make out what was said. No big deal though. As she reached the end of the pool Emiko pulled herself out and would become more visible. Her appearance was that of a short girl made of a translucent slime. Shaking her head a bit her faux hair shook back and forth and splashed droplets of water around.
Taking a deep breath into her replica lungs she was finally able to speak. She didn’t need them to breath but having some air sacs in her body was basically needed for how normal human vocal chords worked since she needed to pass air by them in order to produce the sound that was her voice. “How’s it going?” She asked as though everything that had just transpired hadn’t, “you know, I don’t have a problem when someone takes my clothes, though usually when that happens it’s more in a bedroom. Never done it in a pool before but I’m down to give it a go.” A wide grin came across her translucent face as she said that. Just then she began to regain coloration. Starting at her feet and moving up across her body until she looked like the more normal human form she kept most of the time, albeit without any kind of clothing. Luckily she had kept herself featureless so she looked more like a living barbie doll rather than a human since she had no features in areas that counted. Mostly that was just to keep her from getting in trouble with the administration. The one time she had pulled a similar prank in her P.E. class in first year and came out full on nude she ended up getting a talking to. Apparently they weren’t too appreciative of the nosebleed it caused.

It was a person! ...Of sorts, anyhow. Presumably a student. And one with a quirk unlike anything that Chiura had ever seen before. The translucent figure that had begun to advance towards her spoke with a selfsure, haphazard sort of playfulness that reminded Chiura of one of her old grade school friends. She smiled sheepishly as she exited the pool -- though that smile turned to a look of blushing horror as the person began to form more readily -- and more, well, bare.
"I'm s-sssso sorry!" she gasped, throwing the garment at Emiko's face before hurriedly averting her gaze. She placed her hands upon her hips and shook her head vigorously, as if denying some lurid purpose that she obviously hadn't ever once entertained anyway. "I thought sssssomeone had gotten hurt. I didn't mean to take your sssssuit. But I'm glad to see you okay!"
As flustered as Chiura was, the anxious emotion was overpowered some few times over by the relief that flooded her system. The person was alright, thank goodness -- and though Chiura was none too happy about their state of undress, it was a small price to pay for their safety and well-being.
"My name is Yutssssuko Chiura. I'm a student in 1-A," she said. "Forgive my intrussssion. I thought I was the only one here." Leave it to the ever-timid Chiura to apologize for intruding despite having been the first and only one at the facility until Emiko had arrived. To her, it was always easier to apologize and acquiesce.

[googlefont="Open Sans"] [googlefont="PT Sans"] CRANK UP THE VOLUME AND WAKE UP THE NEIGHBORS aRE YOU HEARING THIS OR WHAT? Emiko laughed as the other girl tossed over the swimsuit and made sure to look away. That kind of reaction was something she had been kind of hoping to get. Though obviously the reactions she tended to get could run the gambit from entirely embarrassed to very very interested. Either way as her swimsuit landed on her Emiko didn’t even bother to grab it, instead simply absorbing the garment and once again using her unique biology to put the garment on rather than doing it the normal away. She really would have preferred to wear some kind of bikini for this but that wasn’t an option unfortunately.
Wait a second… this girl wasn’t wearing the school swimsuit. More than likely it had something to do with the fact that she probably wouldn’t exactly fit in it though considering she didn’t have any legs. And now that Emiko could get a better look at the girl it was more obvious what she was. A snake girl. Honestly the last thing she expected was to find another person here who was basically a monster straight out of a JRPG.
“Nice to meet you. Name’s Emiko McTaggart, I’m in second year class A! I’m not a bad slime, slurp!” she said as she spread her stance slightly, putting one hand on her hip and the other up in a peace sign just in front of her face. Finishing off the pose with a wink she only held it for a second. Walking over towards the snake girl she began to rather visibly peer at the girl’s extremely long tail. “You were alone when I got here. I had kind of hoped more people would be here but whatever,” she said as she bent forward and reached out a finger to poke at Yutsuko-san’s tail, “so you’re like a laimia right? Or maybe more like a Naga? I never really understood the difference between the two.”

Chiura couldn’t help but admire the slime woman’s encouraging, outgoing stance – even as she struck a winking pose that brought a fresh, sheepish shade of red to the bits of the snake woman’s cheeks that weren’t coated in hard, red scales. Her name was Emiko McTaggart – a decidedly un-Japanese surname, Chiura noted. She hadn’t really realized it before, but it made sense the more she thought about it that U.A. would attract folks of all manner of cultural and familial backgrounds. It sort of made her humble Hokkaido origins seem even less impressive than usual, she thought to herself as her tail and ears drooped ever so slightly. Was there anything remarkable about her at all?
She didn’t have much time to revel in her own dissatisfaction, though. Emiko was on the move – poking and prodding at her tail in a way that sent a definite shiver up her massive, reticulated spine. She hissed in surprise, though it wasn’t an unpleasant feeling; her tail twitched and shivered happily in response to the stimulus.
”I – well, I think I’m more like a lamia,” she admitted, tapping her chin as she spoke. It was, ironically, something she had spent a great deal of time thinking about in the past. ”Lamia were part snake, but naga were traditionally part cobra – and my tail is more akin to that of a phython than a cobra, so…” She blinked, blushing even further as she covered her mouth with both hands. She had been rambling about her own potential biological similes. How embarrassing.
”Ah—sorry. I don’t usually get asked questions like that,” she said, sheepish through and through. ”Usually it’s something more along the lines of ‘OH GOD A MONSTER PLEASE DON’T EAT MY CHILDREN’.” This last bit was said in a voice of mock horror, imitating the reaction of all too many parents whose children she had attempted to befriend as a young snake.

[googlefont="Open Sans"] [googlefont="PT Sans"] CRANK UP THE VOLUME AND WAKE UP THE NEIGHBORS aRE YOU HEARING THIS OR WHAT? Interesting analysis. Emiko hadn’t spent that much time discerning the difference between the two different types of monsters. It did make sense though that someone who was born like this would probably be more interested in it. It did make her kind of jealous though. Slimes were just… well slimes. Even when they took on a human form they were always just referred to as slimes still. Snake people got cool names. It just wasn’t fair.
Satisfied with the poking she had given Chiura’s tail and the reaction she had gotten out of it Emiko stood back up and faced the girl, finally getting a good look at the rest of her. It was kind of cute how embarrassed she was about suddenly going on about the differences between the two types of snake monsters.
“You’re the kind that really liked to apologize aren’t you?” Emiko asked with a tilted head, after all so far the kouhai hadn’t done anything wrong and yet apologized twice to her. Though that kind of reaction did seem like it was something that would happen. While her own experiences hadn’t always been so negative a few people hadn’t exactly been the kindest to her back when she always looked like a slime monster. Suddenly a lightbulb came on inside her mind. An idea.
“Yeah. People are like that. Even though quirks make people weird sometimes it’s like anyone who doesn’t look close enough to normal has a tough time. But it’s all good ‘cause us monsters gotta stick together!” Emiko said as the color from her body faded and she was once again a translucent blue version of herself, looking like a humanoid slime monster from a video game, “I mean, come on. You can’t deny how cool it is right? Being different? You can do stuff no one else can. I bet you’ve never needed anyone to get something off a high shelf for you, am I right?” It was kind of odd, even though nothing had been said on the matter Emiko could almost sense how the girl felt. After all, she wasn’t exactly close to a normal human either and for most of her life she wasn’t. Hell, it was only recently she had been able to recolor herself to look like a normal human, so she was no stranger to the way people could treat someone differently if they looked different.

Emiko had pinned Chiura down in a single exchange, it seemed. The girl couldn't help but laugh, a shy little sound that practically died in her own throat. She pushed nervous, taloned fingers through her hair, grinning a bit cheesily as she stared down at the base of her tail. "Yeah, I guess I am, huh?" she chuckled, giving a little shrug of slender shoulders.
Emiko kept talking, though -- ruminating on the nature of... Monsters. It was an unexpected turn of events. Chiura stared in surprise, mouth slightly agape. Residual droplets of chlorinated water lazily slid down her body as she stood otherwise entirely still. Monsters gotta stick together. It was a peculiar thought -- accented readily by Emiko's sudden phase shifting into something decidedly less human in appearance (though still admittedly humanoid in shape). She shone the same sort of aquamarine as the gently flowing pool water; suddenly, Chiura realized just how easily the girl no doubt blended in with the liquid. No wonder she hadn't been able to see it.
"I -- I guess no one has ever put it that way before," she said quietly. "I mean -- generally when monsters stick together people freak out. We aren't usually the hero type, you know? People just assume we're villains because of the way we look." She paused, considering Emiko's words further.
"...I think you're right though," she finally agreed, perking up a little. "I don't like how other people look at me. I try to hide as much of myself as I can, most days. But -- I do like it. I can't imagine how different it would be to have legs. Sure, some things are inconvenient... But I never need a bed! And reaching things is always easy. And everything feels so nice on my scales..." She was grinning now, daydreaming a bit about the things that she did like about herself.

[googlefont="Open Sans"] [googlefont="PT Sans"] CRANK UP THE VOLUME AND WAKE UP THE NEIGHBORS aRE YOU HEARING THIS OR WHAT? Bringo. Emiko was slightly proud of her ability to read people, after all it was a rather important aspect to becoming the type of hero she wanted to eventually be. With little combat usefulness she was much more suited towards other types of hero work besides just fighting villains.
Chiura was right about people who look different sometimes being pegged as villains just because of their appearance. On one or two occasions Emiko had seen it, even a few times she herself had been watched with a bit more care when at the store because people presumed that a translucent blue person wouldn’t be up to anything good. Either that or people were more hung up on that and just outright stared at her. Both things she didn’t really mind as long as they kept to themselves. Though with a snake person she could see people reacting a bit harshly to such a strange appearance. “People are like that,” Emiko said with a shrug of her translucent shoulders, “But if you’re that hung up on it then maybe you just have to become such an awesome hero that people will immediately think good things whenever they see a snake person. You can’t change who you are so change how people see you instead.”
“You want to see something cool?” Emiko asked, though didn’t wait for any kind of response as she once again reverted into the semi orb like shape of her normal slime form. Absorbing the swimsuit it had just been wearing the garment was visible as a clumped up mess inside of the beach ball sized orb of slime. Even though it couldn’t see it still had a good sense of where the snake girl was in relation to itself and began moving in that direction, bouncing along the ground in much the same way a traditional slime monster would in a video game. It kept going until it landed on Chiura’s tail, feeling the hard scales against its far more squishy and giving exterior. If it still had a face Emiko would be grinning right now as it began to spread itself out over a larger area along the snake like tail. She was far too large for Emiko to even come close to being able to fully encompass her tail but a good segment in the middle was quickly covered in a thin layer off blue slime that began to wiggle and knead at the red scales it was currently moving over.

Emiko seemed like she understood -- a fact that brought a kind, happy little smile to Chiura's face. Everyone she had met here had been very nice, sure, but Emiko seemed to understand her in a way that a lot of others didn't quite get. "Yes, that's it exactly!" she chimed, nodding enthusiastically -- and immediately blushing and crossing her arms over her chest to keep everything a bit more contained. "That is -- I mean. It's why I came here, you know? To learn how to prove my justice to the world..." She chuckled and shrugged. "Pretty cheesy, right?"
But then Emiko had something to show her. She leaned in, admittedly curious -- perhaps, she thought, it was some manifestation of the slime girl's quirk. And it certainly was that, as she shrank away into a large globule of teal slime -- before leaping onto Chiura's tail and engulfing a segment of it.
"EEEK! Be careful! It'ssssss -- oh...?" She blinked; Emiko's slime form began to gently massage the segment of her tail, bringing a blissfully relaxed expression to Chiura's face. Her half-lidded eyes turned a vibrant shade of reptilian yellow, the pupils narrowing to snakelike slits. "That feelsssss nice," she sighed happily, straightening out her coils and reclining on top of herself. "Like a world-classsss massage... I haven't felt this relaxed in agessss~."
Strictly speaking, it wasn't the most productive use of her time. She was supposed to be training, after all; but damn it if a girl didn't deserve to relax the muscles once in a while -- and when your entire lower body was muscle, well... Chiura reckoned she deserved it more than most.

[googlefont="Open Sans"] [googlefont="PT Sans"] CRANK UP THE VOLUME AND WAKE UP THE NEIGHBORS aRE YOU HEARING THIS OR WHAT? It was a strange sensation, completely different from normal human skin. More solid and less giving but at the same time smoother than Emiko would have expected. Did Chiura shed her skin like an actual snake? That seemed to be the only plausible way that her scales wouldn’t be scuffed up and rough from usual wear and tear. Aftering being on one section of the snake girl’s long tail the slime moved down towards the tip and did the same kind of massaging motion. Once this was over Emiko would come up with some kind of excuse as to why it was doing this but for now it was having fun just feeling up this tail.
After a little bit at the end of Chiura’s tail the slime surged up her tail again moving up past her snake line form and towards her more humanoid torso, stopping just below her neck and then engulfing her arms at the same time. It wouldn’t be difficult to force Emiko off if the first year felt like it. But assuming she didn’t Emiko would begin the same kind of motion on the more human portion of the girl’s body, quietly enjoying the difference in texture and feel between her skin and scales. Just like before it would stay there for a few more seconds before suddenly jumping off of Chirua.
Mid air Emiko’s form changed back into her translucent blue humanoid form, her swimsuit once again fitting over her body as she brought it out of being captured inside her slime monster like form. With a wide grin across her face she gave the snake girl a thumbs up a thin stream of blue imitation blood fell from one of her nostrils in a mock version of the stereotypical nosebleed. “Damn girl, you should be proud of a body like that,” she said with a hint of some ulterior motive in her voice, “seriously. Who cares if you’re a snake when you’ve got such a nice rack!”

The feeling of the full-tail massage wasn't something that Chiura had ever experienced. It was like literal years of tension were being worked out of those well-worn muscles in the span of mere moments. It was such a remarkably soothing feeling that she honestly barely noticed when Emiko changed positions -- such was the state of soothed, reptilian bliss that Chiura found herself in.
Eventually, though, Emiko removed herself from her person, landing with aplomb upon the ground in front of her. It took her a few moments to catch up, the yellow slowly fading from her eyes and being replaced with that warmer, more human sky blue. "Sssahh... I-- sssshuh?" she asked, her voice muted and honestly more akin to the gentle hissing of a snake than anything resembling human speech. Slowly but surely, the reality of just what Emiko was referring to -- and the basis upon which she had formed that opinion -- dawned on her.
Her eyes shot wide. She covered her mouth with both hands, looking positively flummoxed. "I -- that's -- I mean, YES, I suppose that's true, but -- ack!" She had no idea what to say. "I'm s-sorry!" As per usual, she defaulted to apology. "Usually I have them bound down so nobody notices, but -- w-well, that hurts, and there was no one at the pool so..."
Why Chiura did that to herself was anyone's guess. Honestly, she herself didn't really have a reason for it, beyond trying to appear as inconsequential as possible relative to her eternal monsterhood. Sadly, it rarely worked.
