Misao Hughes (Sparrow) [civilian]

THE BASICS

PHYSICAL APPEARANCE

Facts about her body:
- Her body is fragile since her bones are mostly hollow to accommodate her wings.
- She weighs less than the average 12 year old due to her quirk needing energy.
- Her wings are large and black with hints of grey and browns mixed in at the wing tips. They spread four feet on each side and are rather full in feathers due to her quirk.

PERSONALITY

Despite her upbringing, Misao had become someone dependable to those she befriended. However, also due to her upbringing, she has lots of trust issues with new people that come into her life. She is a, normally, happy go lucky girl who has a bright smile and a go-get-em attitude. Her motivations vary from issue to issue, but they mainly stem from her need to take care of her and her mother on a daily basis. Now that her mother is gone, what motivates her is keeping herself going day to day and finding something to help her get out of her situation as it is.

Misao fears dogs and being alone. She doesn't like dogs because when she was little(-er) she was attacked by a large dog being sent on her by one of her mother's debt collectors (the bad kind). She also fears not having a plan for the future, though she won't allow others to see her anxiety over that fact. In fact, she keeps her emotions pretty under wraps over the past couple years since her mother's passing. She has told herself that crying won't fix her situation and only with hard work and probably a little crime is anything going to get better. Despite not wanting anything troublesome in her life, she has no problem shoplifting or tricking others in order to gain even just a bit in her life. She doesn't like it, but she doesn't know any other way to make a better way.

Things that bother her are overly confident (think smug) people, the wait time for cup ramen, and light when she's trying to sleep. Not much else bother's her other than large crowds and loud noises. She has never been a fan of large crowds since she was smaller. It bother's her when too many people are in the room and she cannot immediately step away. She will become twitchy and her wings will curl and uncurl. She has not been diagnosed with anxiety, but she does have a case of it. Misa tends to overthink things because of her fears; and because of this, she sometimes ends up curled up into a ball when she thinks nobody is looking. Socially, she is polite and kind to others until they give her reason to not be trust worthy; though if they are a stranger, she immediately distrusts them.

When someone finally gets to become friends with her and close, Misao becomes very protective of them and often will use her quirk in defense of that person. She will trust them and because of that trust they will see the more vulnerable side to Misao other than the withheld and distant personality she tends to show strangers. It'll take a lot to get her to trust you, but it will be worth it. She smiles more around those she trusts.

BACKGROUND HISTORY

Misao was born under special circumstances. Her mother had had an affair with a Japanese man on a business trip over to Japan. Her mother's name was Sarah Hughes, who was part of a well to-do family back in England, though once she told them she was pregnant without being married her family had since cut her out and left her on her own. Her father was Ryui Onishi, though Misao did not know that until her mother died and read her last letter to her daughter. According to the letter, Misao was not really known to the rest of the Onishi family except Ryui, and because of her lack of an exceptional quirk, she was not accepted into the Onishi family. This did make her sad, but she decided that if she was really wanted then they would have come for her. Misao did not really care, though there was a small part of her that wondered if she had any other siblings.

Her upbringing was rough and had many ups and downs throughout the time she existed. That was how she thought about it, she existed, nothing more. Since her mother ended up not going back to England after her business trip, the woman fell on hard times as she tried to make her way in Japan with a child on the way. Sarah thought she had found love, but it ended up stabbing her in the back as he went back to his other family after he used her for some fun. Sarah couldn't take that and wondered if she was just not worthy of any sort of love. The 9 months were a bit hit or miss, but Misao was born frail and sickly. Her mother's quirk was that of a transformation sort that allowed them to have birds wings as well as the sort of body of a bird in terms of weight and bone type. Her mother was naturally smaller than most, the pregnancy was hard on her body, and fell ill right after giving birth to Misao. Misao defied the expectations of the hospital staff and was consequently given the nickname "sparrow" as a sort of cute reminder of her wings and hope for her continued good health.

After she was born, Misao had struggled with her mother as her mother tried to find work and keep it. However, since Sarah was a foreigner she wasn't quite the first choice when it came down to it. But still they persevered. More than likely due to the unchecked postpartum depression after having Misao, Sarah ended up having tempers with Misao and drinking heavily when the chance arose. As such, they often ran into money problems when it came down to having rent or even food. That led to her mother borrowing from the wrong people, and then the wrong people coming to take what was owed at the worst times. Misao learned to steal what she could to help with what she could; she did not like it though and wished everything was better. It wasn't until the last month until Misao's 10th birthday that things took a worse turn.

When Misao came home from school, she called to her mother that she was home. No call back came. Odd, but not out of the norm when her mother was laying drunk in the living room from one of her depressive episodes. Everything seemed to be in place until she reached the door to the living room. It was partially torn and had red streaks on it. Misao's heart was racing since she knew what blood looked like and it smelled like iron. With shaking hands, Misao pulled the thin sliding door away to reveal a bloody mess in the middle of the floor. Her mother lay on the living room floor with a knife in each of her wings and one in her heart. Screaming loudly, Misao struggled to stand as she held a hand over her mouth to try and contain her sudden urge to vomit. Her eyes were wide with her fear and sorrow. Why would somebody do thi--? She knew instantly why. Her mother owed the wrong people and this time they took what they thought they were owed. Sarah Hughes' life. It was bound to happen eventually, just came a lot sooner than Misao thought it would.

After the police questioned Misao, they put her into child protective services and that was how the next two years went by for her. The death of her mother was swept under the rug (police bribing) and that was the end of that. After a few days of not knowing just what was going to happen to her, Misao ended up in the orphanage in Tokyo to live until she was adopted or old enough for them to kick her out. She struggled to keep her life as happy as she could without letting the past struggles hinder her. She wanted more than anything to be adopted by some nice couple. To have a home. To have siblings. Anything to make this life better than it had been thus far. Her mother, despite her failings, was deeply loved by Misao and would be missed.

After the two years in the Orphanage already, she still lives there with several other children. Nobody has wanted to adopt Misao thus far. She still steals to get what she needs and is not above looting various abandoned baskets or boxes outside of doorways. She still goes to school, but has somewhat closed herself off from becoming close with many people. Perhaps some will change that in the near future. Who knows.

THE ARMORY

No hero suit, but she does have some tools she uses.

-A hunting knife she 'found'. she has hidden from the Orphanage staff.
-Lock picks she also 'found'.

Her usual dress is a one size larger hooded jacket that she has two holes in the back for her wings, the elementary school uniform that she wears leggings underneath the skirt, and beat up old sneakers that are secondhand from another kid at the orphanage.

-medical mask that she wears to both hide her identity should they see her face, and to help her when she gets sick.

FALLEN

SUMMARY:

Fallen is a quirk that is a mix of a large part of her mother's family quirk and a little of her father's quirk (though it is in an odd way). Fallen allows the user to have the wings and body type of a bird. This means that those with this quirk have naturally fragile bodies with mostly hollow bones like a bird does. This allows them to fly in the air like a real bird and be agile on the ground with how light they tend to be. Her weight and height are also because of her quirk. She looks small and younger than she really is, but her actual age is that of a 12 year old. While this is a plus since it makes the user seem to be almost slow aging, it can be bad since she is at a disadvantage with how fragile her body is as well as how much energy it requires to have in the upkeep of this quirk. She is able to fly nonstop for about 3 hours (or four posts) before she become sleepy. She is also able to fly at 35-40 MPH.

The next few abilities of Fallen have come from her father's quirk type. Her feathers have properties close to being used as weapons, though she isn't sure how to make them happen on her own quite yet. When she becomes emotional (angry, sad, any strong emotion), her feathers become sharp and glow with a sort of ethereal light as she quickly opens them and then closes them around her to shoot 20 of the sharp glowing feathers at her target. Damage from this is slicing damage rather than brunt force. It is meant to slice at the targets with small, but deep, slashes with each feather storm. The damage size is about the size of a 5 inch slice. She has only used this a handful of times when she was in a tight spot. She is able to use this once every two posts. The feathers grow back quickly and replace the ones that were used. This takes at least one post count to do.

She is also able to make herself blend into the darkness of shadows. Her eyes glow bright purple as this happens and she simply melts into the darkness as if she were part of them. Not actual melting, but her body is able to shroud herself in them as a sort of cloak that is a more fluid motion when used. The amount of posts she is able to stay in the shadows is one post. She is able to move around easily within them and her footfall sounds are almost silent. If someone was quiet fully, they could still hear her. She is able to use this for about only two posts before she has to let it recharge for two more posts. However she is able to hide in the shadows, she is unable to hide from light. When light is shown on her, she is unable to hide and is forced out of her shroud. Search lights and powerful lights like that will completely render this ability useless and ineffective. Daylight also does the same hindrance as the previously mentioned lights.

WEAKNESSES/LIMITATIONS:

1) Her quirk requires a lot of energy and as such can cause her to become severely hungry and unable to fly due to lack of energy. It also makes it so that she is unable to move once her energy stores are empty.

2) Her body is fragile and able to break easily. This means she is not meant to be a fighter and mainly does everything she needs in quiet and without witnesses. Should she use her quirk abilities too much, she will be unable to move and thus be open and vulnerable to attackers should they come after her.

3) If she flies longer than 3 hours nonstop, she will become very sleepy and need to sleep to recharge her energy. But like, seriously, if she tries to go longer, she will DROP FROM THE SKY. Only able to fly for about four posts.

4) She is not entirely quiet in her shadowed form. So she is still able to be heard if the people are quiet.

5) Disadvantage over height things in a physical confrontation if her attacker if taller than her. (and stronger than her, etc)

6) Due to the strain of having her quirk constant (wings always there), and the strain of the energy drain, she is constantly frail in health and tends to be incapacitated due to such strain when it becomes too much for her to bear. She is able to bear the slight makings of a common cold, but anything more than that takes a toll on her health.

SUMMARY:

This skill allows her to pick just about any lock, except the really hard ones that come with fancy places such as banks and the higher ends of town. She learned this skill to get into the lock box her mother had on hand with the money she would hoard to use on her useless endeavors and whims.

SUMMARY:

This skill allows Misao to pickpocket those that she comes across. She is far from a master, but with each day she uses her skills, she becomes better and learns lesson to move forward. She can pickpocket stealthy enough to not get caught 5 out of 10 times. So there is a 50% chance she will be caught.

SUMMARY:

Gonna be honest, when she started to use the knives she 'found', she almost lost a few fingers here and there. Part of the reason she's got so many scars on her hands is because of her practicing. She is able to wield it to a beginners level, though she still has a long way to go when it comes to this skill. She can hold her own in a battle of bladed weapons for a short while before she would begin to get overwhelmed.

SUMMARY:

Because she had to take care of her mother when her mother was 'out for the count', she learned how to cook and clean, but her skill in cooking grew over the years because of her need to fend for herself. She is able to make the basic things well and is wanting to learn how to cook more and more dishes as she goes. At the home she lives at, she likes helping in the kitchen in preparing meals for the other kids and staff. Her favorite to cook is rolled omelette and making rice balls as a snack.
