Standing at 5'5", Haruka is a fairly small thing for someone of her height, but don't let that fool you. Despite a very light frame, she has a notably solid build and quite a decent amount of toned muscle mass to back it up. Her long white hair grows incredibly fast as a side effect of her quirk, and as such is almost always reaching past the small of her back, no matter how recently she cut it. About the only thing she can do is keep it tied back in a ponytail so that its at least somewhat out of the way. Though Haruka's skin is pretty pale, most of the time the vast majority of it is covered up by a layer of bright red and orange feathers, with the only real places lacking covering being the front of her torso and her face. There are even a few that seem to grow in along the base of her hairline, giving the roots a slightly red accent through the white. These are not the only oddity however, As her body has a number of more avian features, including wing flaps that are built into her arms, tail feathers, and small talon-like claws on her feet.

RUMOR/SECRET: | "I heard she kidnapped all the stray cats around the neighborhood." "I saw her on the news, didn't she burn down that grocery store?" "Wait, didn't she die?" |
Imagine if one day you figured out that you basically couldn't die, what would that do to you? To the way you think? Haruka Ishida is cocky, brash, and a bit irresponsible, as one might expect of someone with her particular 'gifts'. When she throws herself headlong into danger, she does so with the knowledge that she'll more than likely come out fine on the other side. Some might call it foolhardy, but others would call it bravery, a boon that allows the girl the courage to do what others can't. The courage to be a hero.
But enough about the job. Haruka is a pretty easy person to understand. She wears her emotions on her sleeve and her motivations tend to be rather obvious to those around her. It's not particularly hard to get under her skin and her temper can be rather explosive, but for the most part she tries to treat people with respect and usually comes across as a well meaning, if frequently sarcastic, person.

BACKGROUND HISTORY
PLACE OF BIRTH/HOMETOWN: | Tokyo |
PARENTS: | Date Ishida (Adoptive Father) |
SIBLINGS: | None |
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: | None |
OTHER: | Nara (cat) |
Fire... You know, my first memory was of fire. Well, the earliest one I can remember anyway. There was a car crash when I was seven years old, really nasty thing from what I've heard. I guess I must have hit my head pretty hard, because everything before that is just blank. I know better now, but at the time I just remember being so scared; waking up in a twisted heap of metal, completely surrounded by fire... I was bawlin' my eyes out for god know how long, but eventually there's this loud noise and everything around me shakes. Suddenly I see daylight and there's a guy reaching out his hand for me. Wasn't some big-shot hero or anything, just a normal fireman trying to save a little girl.
So I was the only one that survived the crash. Well, let's be honest, knowing what I do now I probably did 'die', but that's besides the point. Gotta say, its a really surreal experience, being told your parents are gone when you can't even remember who they are. Real hard to cry when you lose something you don't even know you had. Because of how bad the accident was, it took awhile for them to track down who the victims were, and even after that I apparently didn't have any relatives that could look after me so that fireman that pulled me out of the wreck decided to take me in. His name is Date Ishida by the way, and I'm not sure I could have asked for a better dad.
I looked up to him a lot when I was little. I mean, he was pretty amazing after all. Guy wasn't even all that strong, but he put himself in serious danger all the time just so that he could help others. He'd come home hurt all the time, but it didn't seem to ever slow him down at all. I wanted to be like him, and as I started figuring out this body of mine, I'll admit that I started getting all sorts of crazy ideas about what I'd be capable of. I was really just dreaming of following him as a firefighter at first though, he's the one that pushed me and told me that I could do so much more.
It was his fault that I started seriously thinking about trying to become a hero and... I gotta tell you, it really wasn't easy. I was small, fragile, and weak, but I was also pretty damn determined. I started off just by trying to keep up with dad's daily training; it took a hell of a long time to even be able to finish the whole routine, but he wouldn't let me ever give up. Eventually I started to put on some muscle, got better at moving and even started learning how to fight. By the time I got to the entrance exams I honestly couldn't even recognize myself. I remember standing in front of the UA testing facility that day and dad didn't even say a word. He just smiled, patted me on the shoulder, and sent me in. And I fricken aced it.
Going to school was pretty fun. I wasn't at the top of my class or anything, but I did pretty well for myself. I heard rumors about how the classes at that place got pulled into all sorts of ridiculous situations, emergencies, villain attacks, all that fun stuff, but honestly I think its a bunch of nonsense. I didn't get anything like that.... Well, there was that incident with the grocery store in my second year, but let's not dwell on that one. While I was there, there was one teacher in particular that I got along with really well, basically taught me everything I know about how to be a hero and helped me avoid some pretty stupid mistakes. I owe her a whole lot, and I still visit every now and then; practice sparring and play with the cats, it's a nice distraction.
Anyway, I graduated last year and now I'm working in the field. Signed on with a hero agency specializing in rescue operations, which I guess most people didn't expect from me. Not really sure why, I mean beating up bad guys is plenty of fun, but that's not really what the job is about. I want to save people, just like I was saved all those years ago.

THE ARMORY
{- Costume - Click to Show} Haruka's costume is about as simple as you can get; just a red fireman's jacket and overalls, and a white vest to go underneath, all of which have been treated to provide an extra layer of fire-proofing; enough that they are able to withstand her quirk when she's not using a forced burn. Preferring to keep as light as possible, she frequently goes without the jacket and carries very little else on her person, save a bandoleer to hold her water bombs and a light harness for her weapons.
- Naginata
- Fire-proof cell phone
- Fireman's Axe
{- Water bombs x8 - Click to Show}Simply put, a water grenade. When armed, these bombs explode on contact with a solid surface, drenching a 10x10 foot area in water. Particularly effective at putting out fledgling fires before they grow too large.
QUIRK & SKILLS
Phoenix Flash
TYPE:Mutation
RANK/LEVEL: B-
SUMMARY:
The phoenix, a legendary bird of fire and rebirth whose's myths have spread across the world. For whatever reason, Haruka's quirk seems to mirror the legends of this creature, altering her physiology and granting her abilities that come straight out of mythology.
Bird of Fire: On the physical side of things, Haruka's body has been altered to take on more avian traits, including hollowed bones, wing-like extensions on her arms, and bright red and orange feathers that cover the vast majority of her body. Her body temperature is also notably higher than normal, and the structure of her skeletal system makes her incredibly light. That being said, even with her decreased weight, the wing appendages built into her arms are not capable of flight.
Wings Aflame: The feathers that cover Haruka's body are not your average bird's plumage. At will she can cause them to ignite and cloak her body in flame that can become hot enough to melt steel. The shroud of fire can be manipulated slightly, though only so far as she can direct it into concentrated close range blasts, or focus it to create thrust. Attacks made in this way tend to be rather blunt things, with a range of a mere five feet and the impact force of a heavyweight boxer. When using this ability to propel herself, Haruka can reach speeds of approximately 85 mph (130 kph). This flame is not everlasting however, and will actually consume Haruka's feathers in the area the burn is happening in over time. If kept on a low flame (Not actively using abilities and less than 50% max temperature), feathers will last about 6 rounds. If she is actively attacking or using her fire, they usually last a mere 3 posts. In addition to normal use, when pushed to her limit Haruka is able to forcefully burn hotter than usual. Doing this causes her physical pain, consumes her feathers immediately, and leaves behind burns, but it does increase her output to about double for that brief instant. Once burned out, feathers take three posts to grow back under normal conditions, or four posts if she used a forced burn.
From The Ashes: While acting as a powerful weapon externally, Haruka's flames have a more nurturing effect when directed inward. When not attacking, she is able to absorb the heat energy released by burning her feathers and use it to heal herself. This regeneration is unconscious, but only takes effect if she is not using the fire in any of the ways described in Wings Aflame. At current potency, it takes a single post to heal light scratches and bruises, 2-3 to heal minor wounds and light breaks, and 4 or more to heal more grievous injuries. Additionally, once per thread if Haruka sustains a fatal injury her body will consume itself in fire and regenerate to a point of stabilization, though the act immediately burns away all her feathers and they will not regrow for the remainder of the thread. This is not at all a pleasant process and the excruciating pain involved is almost always enough to render Haruka unconscious. It should be noted that due to the nature of this healing, it has no effect on burn injuries.
WEAKNESSES/LIMITATIONS:
Though powerful, Haruka's quirk comes with a number of equally potent drawbacks. First up, hollow bones make her skeleton notably more fragile than a normal person. Although she may be able to recover more easily than your average young adult, she is particularly susceptible to blunt impacts which can easily break her bones. Next, with her heightened body temperature, Haruka is rather sensitive to colder climates. When exposed to an environment cooler than 45 F (7.2 C), her fire's potency is reduced to half, her movements become rather sluggish, and her feathers take an additional post to grow back after burning out.
The energy needed to start a fire and keep it burning doesn't just come from nowhere; although Haruka's body helps with the process, she still can't keep it up forever. Regardless of the state of her feathers, she can usually only keep the burn going for a maximum of 8 posts in a thread, after which point she'll basically have physically exhausted herself. Her feathers take on an ashen color in this state rather than the usual vibrant red and she is unable to summon up her flames beyond the tiniest of embers. Mechanically, this prevents her from using any of the effects described in Wings Aflame in any meaningful way, and while her regeneration is still active, the time needed to heal an injury is tripled.
Beyond the physical weaknesses, Haruka's quirk itself poses some problems in its use. The flames she creates are directly in tune with her emotions and her mental state can have a powerful effect on her ability to control them. When distressed she will find it hard to ignite or keep the burn going. When fatigued, be it from sustained combat or even general lack of sleep, her control will waver and her output will lower. When angered, she'll become far more explosive, increasing her output slightly but losing fine control and burning out her feathers faster than normal (2 posts rather than 3). It is perfectly common for her to ignite herself unconsciously when she becomes emotionally charged, which can easily lead to problems. Which brings us to the final point; the flames that Haruka creates don't discriminate between friend or foe, making her incredibly dangerous for everyone involved when stuck in close quarters. This prevents her from using her abilities in many situations, especially when collateral damage is a pressing concern.

Naginatajutsu
RANK/LEVEL: B-
SUMMARY: When Haruka first started taking combat classes at UA, she quickly discovered that she had a bit of a natural affinity for wielding pole-arms. The longer reach and precision seemed to be a near perfect match for a quirk that proved particularly mobile. As she developed these skills however, she inevitably found herself focusing on the naginata in particular; the same weapon of choice as her favorite teacher. Though she has spent a great amount of time practicing her skills, she still has a long way to go to catch up with her mentor.
Brawler
RANK/LEVEL: C+
SUMMARY: There isn't always going to be a weapon on hand, and eventually the time will come when you've just gotta put your dukes up. Haruka's fighting style is neither sophisticated nor complicated, though it can be rather flashy. Relying heavily on brute force, her simple brawling techniques are often augmented by the raw power and mobility that come with her rather explosive quirk.
Aerobatics
RANK/LEVEL: B-
SUMMARY: Hurtling through the air at ridiculous velocities is all fun and games until there's actually something in your way. Luckily, Haruka has had plenty of accidents to help her learn to properly make use of her agility. She has honed her control and reflexes enough to be able to maneuver herself with great skill through even more complex environments utilizing her quirk.
Grit
RANK/LEVEL: B
SUMMARY: Even with her powerful regeneration, Haruka isn't immune to pain. While that broken arm might be healed in a minute or two, it's still going to hurt like hell until the bones stitch themselves back together. It takes a particularly strong will to be able to keep fighting when you've got four broken ribs and a bullet wound, but Haruka's had plenty of experience to help steel her resolve.
