[googlefont=Open+Sans] I think it's time to blow this scene [attr="class","firstfriend"] Get everybody and their stuff together amn. It didn’t seem like such a long time in the moment but now that she was out it really hit her how long she had been in the hospital. It had been strange to be able to leave finally, strange to be able to go back to her apartment, strange to once again be independent. Hell for a time there she really thought she’d be stuck in that hospital for the rest of her life. But it was a sort of miracle that she was alive in the first place let alone able to go back to her regular life… well mostly. She was well aware of the new limits of her body, something she knew consciously but still found herself meeting them with surprise. Just too much walking around and she would end up out of breath, and forget about running for anything but a short distance. Of course it didn’t help that she was a serial smoker, something that the doctors warned her would be far worse for her now. Maybe she’d be forced to get one of those electronic vape things that people use to get off cigarettes.
Bai still had a few days left until she returned to duty and didn't exactly know what to do. At a certain point sitting and home playing dating sims and watching rom-coms just became too much and she needed to get outside. Somewhere along that way she found herself getting dressed and heading out with no particular destination in mind. Anything to get her out really. Stopping more than once to catch her breath she eventually found herself drawn to Akihabara. She remembered when she had worked a beat here. Probably the most fun spot in Tokyo to patrol. With how lively things were around here it was hard not to be in a good mood.
Unfortunately even if it did perk up her mood some Bai quickly found herself once again needing a break. Damn. She was going to really need to work to get back to even a fraction of where she had been before. Well, if nothing else she could find something to keep her entertained while here. All kinds of options were before her, maid cafés where she could get a bite to eat. Manga shops where she could pursue their selection and see if she could find some volumes of the more obscure ones she was reading. Stores with all kinds of memorabilia of her favorite shows and games, though she definitely didn’t need to spend more money on anime figures posters or wall scrolls. Maybe she would hop into a game store and see if she could find any good visual novels she hadn’t played yet. There never seemed to be a lack of those. And maybe if she played enough of those she would eventually be able to graduate from 2D dating to 3D dating.
As she was trying to choose what she was going to get after something caught Bai’s eye. A small stand selling the unmistakable treat of crepes. And odd spot for a crepe stand really but it did seem to be getting plenty of attention to maybe it made sense in a way. She could definitely go for one of those right now. Of course she’d need to watch her blood sugar level. What a hell of a way to end up with diabetes. Trying not to think about that she made for the stand, deciding to get herself a strawberry banana crepe. A classic flavor combination in her mind but one she hadn’t had in ages. Well at least it felt like ages. Probably not since high school. Which could be considered to have been forever ago by some standards. She wasn’t that old technically but she definitely felt like it right now.
Finding a spot to stand out of the way of the crowd Bai slowly began to peck at her crepe. This really brought her back. Sure she wasn’t exactly the stereotypical high school girl back in the day. Kind of a shame, maybe if she had then she might have had a legitimate romantic relationship instead of pretending to date some guy just to act rebellious. Somewhat wandering off into her own mind she found herself daydreaming that she was the heroine in some romantic manga and that there was some guy who was interested in her. Handsome, tall, and most importantly… well… something. Honestly her lack of any real dating experience really left a big blank in the type of guy she was interested in. The physical aspects were easier to pin down than the personality part.

“Ah, what a large dog! Look at the coat!”
Daisuke stopped, letting the people admire him. He stilled as children cautiously approached, patting his head. A few adults looked wary, some already on their phones. He had about fifteen minutes before a dog catcher showed up and he would have to scram. He knew this because it happened sometimes in his main stomping grounds. But, as of recently, his little murder spree as the Beast of Ikebukuro was slowing down. It seemed as if the villains of that slummy part of Tokyo were wising up to the fact they were being picked off. That was unfortunate for Daisuke, since they sometimes had food on them he’d steal after the fact and scarf down.
And, having been raised in a laboratory where he’d eat good, high quality meals of meat cuts or eggs with fresh, dog-safe vegetables… He couldn’t lower himself to digging through the trash for rotted meat anymore. He hated it.
So, here he was in the nicer part of town, seeing if anyone would give into his appeal as a “pet” animal and give him a treat. So far, no luck. Who could really blame anyone? His slightly tarnished but still blatantly visible metal collar likely warded off anyone who might have approached him with hopes of rescuing a poor, homeless pooch off the streets. His sheer size and his intimidating docked tail and cropped ears combination likely reduced his opportunities for a snack even further. Yet, he remained determined.
He was going to get a real meal, even if he had to find a sucker to steal it from and out run.
“Puppy...”
“Honey, don’t touch it, you’ve got ice cream.”
As tempted as Daisuke was to steal the ice cream from the child when it petted the bridge of his nose, he resisted. It was chocolate. He knew well enough that chocolate ice cream would hurt him. But, something rich in fat would be awful nice. Fat from a nice, marbled cut of beef, especially, but unless he got bold enough to start breaking into butcher shops, that likely wasn’t going to happen. Maybe he should have followed that man home, just to get more meals out of him…
Daisuke’s pondering led him to spot Bai. He sniffed the air. Strawberry, banana, some sort of bread?
Bingo.
Trotting over, the animal villain wondered how, exactly he should get the treat from the woman. Oh, right, begging. He hadn’t done that since he was a puppy. Head down and ears flopped to the side as much as they could, he immediately started up with loud, high pitched whines. If she didn’t back away or shoo him, he’d sit down right in front of her and stare up. The whining would only continue.

[googlefont=Open+Sans] I think it's time to blow this scene [attr="class","firstfriend"] Get everybody and their stuff together ll things considered it was a nice day out and it wasn’t bad to be out and about in this weather. Honestly anything beat being cramped up in her apartment right now. After being stuck in the hospital for so long she had thought that getting some time to herself would have been nice before getting back. But after a few days of being back to her relatively normal life she was itching to get back to work. The biggest question would be what case she would be put on. The one that had lead to her injuries in the first place had been wrapped up shortly after she was hospitalized. In fact she wasn’t really privy to what kind of cases they’d even have going on. Something told her though that whatever it would be would be something big. After all that seemed to be the issue with reaching the rank of Inspector.
Huh, what was that? A small commotion caught Bai’s attention. Was that… a dog? It didn’t seem like anyone around was their owner though even from this distance she could see the fact that it was wearing a collar. A little odd for the big city to see a dog wandering around on their own. Maybe she should call animal control to come pick it up and notify its owner. Well… actually that might end up causing more hassle. Perhaps it would simply be more polite to see if it had some tags and contact their owner directly.
Before she could start to head towards the animal it seemed that the dog was heading towards her on its own. For a moment Bai tried to figure out what this dog was after, as it seemed pretty focused on the crepe in her hand. Whoever had trained this dog had obviously taught them how to ask for their food. Unfortunately they were in Akihabara so most the foods around here were junk food, otherwise she would find some street vendor that had some kind of meat or hell even a butcher to get a few cuts of meat.
“Hey there. You after this?” she asked, pointing to the crepe in her hand, knowing that most dogs would be smart enough to at least get the gist of what she was saying. “This has chocolate sauce in it so i don’t think you should have it. But how about I get you a crepe instead?” the dog probably didn't understand that one but if she kept its attention on her food she might be able to keep it from wandering off. And with the promise of food she might be able to get at its tags to see what she should do next.
Nodding for the dog to follow her she held out her crepe, hoping that she could keep it’s attention long enough. Back at the stand she ordered a different crepe. While they didn’t have anything with meat she did make sure to request no chocolate sauce on this one. It wasn’t but a few moments later when she had the second snack in hand. Looking over she glanced to see if the animal was still there or if it had lost interest and was moving on to beg someone else for something to eat.

He understood perfectly. He licked his lips, actually salivating at the idea of having his own treat. He felt a little disappointed that the scent of chocolate had also been coming from her crepe; there was so much around that he couldn’t distinguish it all, but, hey, at least he’d successfully puppy eye’d his way into his own.
He did indeed follow her, though he walked with his shoulder even with her thigh. His pace was even, eyes wandering but not particularly trying to run away. Maybe someone else would think she was walking him off leash. Good. That’d delay some tattletale from ratting to the dog catcher so he could properly enjoy his food.
When she had the crepe in hand, Daisuke would sit down. It was a very tight, tense bodied pose. His ears were erect, his noise was pointed straight towards her, and not a part of him drooped or relaxed. He briefly considered her kindness. Hm. Well, he didn’t particularly like people, but at least he’d had something to trade the old man. What could he give her…?
A thank you, he supposed. In quick succession, he let out seven boofs: arigatougozaimasu. He couldn’t speak Japanese or any human language due to lacking the vocal cords for it, but he was smart enough to know how to count syllables. Maybe she’d be tickled by his little trick.
Regardless, he licked his lips again, once again involuntarily salivating at the crepe. If/When she offered the crepe, Bai would be able to see information etched into the metal collar. It was tarnished and warped in places, clearly burnt by hot fires. The information was, written naturally in Japanese, the equivalent of the following:
PROPERTY of NPA SB.
Or, as the acronyms would more clearly imply: Property of the National Police Agency Security Bureau. Bai Zheng had stumbled upon something that could have, if things gone differently, a coworker from another division. And, he was positively drooling.

[googlefont=Open+Sans] I think it's time to blow this scene [attr="class","firstfriend"] Get everybody and their stuff together he guy working the crepe stand gave the dog a strange look though didn’t comment on the animal. Bai had been somewhat surprised at how personable the dog was, considering it seemed to be a stray in a city like Tokyo. But then again stranger things had happened before, especially in a world like this. When she finally got the treat she turned towards the dog to find that it was already sitting and it seemed focused on the food about to be given to it. Something told her that the animal was trained already and knew what to do.
The barking caught her off guard slightly though it did cause her to smirk. Well this was definitely one happy dog. Crouching down she held out the crepe for the animal, and while it was busy with that she began to look at it’s collar. Immediately she raised an eyebrow at what she saw. While there were no external indicators her mentality immediately changed. A police dog, running around like this without their partner? And more importantly why would the collar say he belonged to the security bureau? Sure there were plenty of dogs in a bomb sniffing role for counter terror, or in the narcotics divisions for drug sniffing. But this seemed off. Why was the lettering on there so worn out? Having a pristine uniform, or in this case a collar, was something the police took pride in. It didn’t make sense of any officer or even a canine officer to be wearing something that wasn’t up to snuff. She would need to call this one in.
With her free hand Bai reached for her phone, pulling it out and opening her contacts. Had she any way of knowing or even suspecting that this dog would understand what she said, or that it was in fact a villain then she would have been sneakier about it. But to her this was simple a strange situation with a lost police dog. And considering it was the security bureau she had a feeling that she wasn’t going to get any answers about it.
“Yeah. Detective Zheng. Badge six seven four eight two. Yeah. I’m in Akihabara and I’ve got a police dog here without their partner. The collar says security bureau,” she said into her phone as the line connected. The person who answered was more than likely just a receptionist as they quickly transferred her call. She fully expected the response to be to just keep an eye on the animal until it could be picked up.

Animals had a form of manners, a variety of culture, but it was unlike and in some ways incompatible with any of the varieties among humans. When the food was given, Daisuke took it with a gentle mouth - his teeth did not click together for the sake of sparing Bai’s fingers, his movements were slow to avoid touching her hand. But, that was where all semblance of human intention ended.
With the crepe balanced between his pearly white fangs, the dog tilted his head back and chewed but twice. It was more rough readjustment than biting, but that was all that happened before it was gone down his gullet. Bread… bloating, filling bread.
Fantastic.
If his tail wasn’t docked, he might have wagged it. He briefly just basked in the moment. The city was noisy, but he’d always been assailed by noise. He’d never had a quiet moment in all his life. The sun was out, though; it felt good on his fur. He was full. He wasn’t fighting. His shoulder wasn’t even sore anymore from the fight the other day.
Then he heard her say security bureau. His eyes snapped back to Bai’s face. He knew that’s the department his black site training grounds had been under. He’d never been able to tell due to the angle, but, sure enough, that stupid collar had details. But, now that she was on the phone, what could he do? Would they tell her what he had done? No, that’d require them to admit they’d intentionally purchased an animal with a quirk to be turned into a weapon.
And, that’d likely open up more questions than they were willing to answer. But, he’d be wanted back now that he was found. So, he had to figure out a way to escape. He had to make it feel natural, to keep the human off guard.
Putting his nose to the ground, he didn’t even sniff deeply. His eyes roamed and as he mimicked the actions of tracking a scent, but was otherwise trying to walk away from Bai. However, it was just a walk. He couldn’t run, or he’d give away exactly how much Japanese he understood.

[googlefont=Open+Sans] I think it's time to blow this scene [attr="class","firstfriend"] Get everybody and their stuff together he line stayed silent for several seconds before Bai finally got something on the other end. The question still lingered in her mind as to why this dog would be marked for the security bureau. Her gut told her that something was going on here but then again most stuff involving the SB ended up making her suspicious. She only really ever had one real encounter with them before and they had snatched a case out from under her and then nobody heard anything about it after that. But apparently things like that happened from time to time and most department’s had ghost stories about the security bureau.
“Inspector Zheng, you are to stay put and not engage the animal. It is considered to be dangerous. Do not engage and report on your location. Repeat, do not engage and report the animal’s location,” a new voice came through the line, one Bai could tell was probably some kind of SB agent. It seemed a little suspect but she doubted that they would give her that kind of order if the dog wasn’t actually dangerous. Her demeanor changed some as the aforementioned animal seemed to catch the scent of something and start off tracking it. Still she had no reason to think that it wasn’t anything beyond just a dog.
With a quick glance around Bai reported her location over the phone and decided to follow the animal. If nothing else she could just follow it at a safe distance until the men in black decided to show up and actually wrangle the animal and probably take it away in some vehicle with blacked out windows. It did leave a bad taste in her mouth to let the security bureau have a win like this but this was part of her duties as an officer of the law even if she wasn’t technically on duty yet.
So far it seemed like this dog was just another harmless stray but she would be wary of it for now. After all it could attack her and she was in no shape to fight of any kind of animal bigger than a rat. Bai was somewhat worried that things could go further south than that, her gut telling her that there had to be something that the bureau wasn’t telling her. She just hoped this dog didn’t start running, there’s no way she would be able to keep up with a person running let alone a dog.

He wasn't deaf and she wasn't a fool. Daisuke stopped walking, looking at first over his shoulder and then turning around to look at the woman. The red merle male considered his options. He was lucky that, thus far, the dog catcher hadn't been called. But, she'd ratted on him. He only had so much time. What was more important? Getting away quickly or maintaining his cover? There weren't any heroes around. If he moved quickly, perhaps the shock of the revelation of who - or, rather, what - the Beast of Ikebukuro was might buy him enough of a stall to get away. He wished he had training for this.
But, all his training did was make him ready to do violence. So, violence he had to do.
With a final, warning woof, Daisuke ignited. The scent of burning flesh and fur permeated the air. The dog's neck and head burnt away while the rest of him turned to charred flesh. The once short, docked tail billowed into a fiery blaze, matching his new inferno of a mane. The metal collar remained, revealing exactly why it looked so unkempt. Empty eye sockets bore towards the officer. Heat rolled off Daisuke, sending the air circling around him. Discarded papers danced on the hot breezes before being burnt for being too near his fire. The crowd couldn't ignore him anymore than they'd ignore any other rampaging villain. Daisuke clacked his bare teeth together as a threat.
Stay away. Or, else.
His time was running short. They would be coming for him, no doubt. Probably in another four posts or so.

[googlefont=Open+Sans] I think it's time to blow this scene [attr="class","firstfriend"] Get everybody and their stuff together ai didn’t exactly like the idea of doing the bidding of the security bureau, and while technically she wasn’t on duty so she didn’t really need to be doing this. But something about this situation was off. Even almost a half year out of practice and her gut feeling was still at least good for something. And besides, this didn’t seem like it would be that difficult, as long as the dog didn’t take off on her then she’d just tail it for a few minutes until the security bureau gooks got here to reclaim the animal.
Reporting back on her location Bai began to walk after the dog as it began it’s leisurely stroll away. So far it hadn’t seemed like it would run off so she didn’t have anything to worry about. At least that’s what she was thinking right up until the animal caught on fire. Reflectively Bai took a quick step away from the suddenly ablaze animal, the scent of burning hair and flesh quickly meeting her nose and making her gag. And Bai wasn’t the only one to noice what was going on, most everyone close enough to see the dog had stopped in shock or awe. Off to one side woman screamed at the sight.
Well, now Bai knew why the security bureau said that this animal was dangerous. There was only really one explanation for how this had happened in such a manner. The dog had a quirk. What kind of messed up logic lets an animal get a quirk like that and yet Bai had nothing? Though a deep philosophical question like that wasn’t what she had to worry about right now. If this thing decided to attack her she’d basically be dead. That’d be a hell of a way to go, after miraculously surviving being used as a backboard for a machine gun only to fully recover and end up getting killed by a dog with a fire quirk.
Slowly she began to back away from the beast, keeping her eyes on it. Other people who had been nearby had already ran away to a further distance while some who were already far off had pulled out their phones to film what was going on. Bai kept her gaze on the dog, tensing her body and readying herself for if it decided to attack her. With the plethora of injuries she already had she really didn’t want this to end in a fight. A few severe in injuries could kill her at this point, and death wasn’t on her short list of things she felt like doing anytime soon.
