[googlefont=Open+Sans] I think it's time to blow this scene [attr="class","firstfriend"] Get everybody and their stuff together pril twenty second, eleven thirty four pm. The damned department decided to saddle me with some big case right as I got back. As if being crammed up in the hospital for half a year wasn’t enough I get thrown right in the deep end as soon as I get back. But I guess that’s the life I asked for getting into this job.
The sound of rain coming down outside mixed with the jazzy classical nineteen forties era jazz music in the small diner. The whole place had a feel like it was ripped straight out of that era and transported these many years into the future. The atmosphere here reminded Bai of the old detective serials she would watch with her dad as a kid. Always staring some hard boiled detective or private eye who didn’t look it but managed to always be the smartest guy in the room. She had a few moments like that in her career and it was always the best part of her job.
Right now though this case she was put on was though, all things considered. The dates of these robberies went back almost a year but the department hadn’t picked up on the fact that they were connected until after Bai had been hospitalized. Unfortunately besides knowing that they were connected no one could figure out anything else. Of course as soon as Bai got back it was decided to give the case to her, after all she was the detective with the highest case closing record in the department. If anyone could figure this out it was her.
Something wasn’t quite right about these robberies. Every time the suspect was caught on tape they always had a solid alibi somewhere else. Some even taped being in two different places at once. Whoever was doing this obviously had some kind of quirk that let them copy someone else’s appearance. The largest issue though was determining which of the cases fit and which didn’t. It was entirely possible that someone had caught on and made up a solid but entirely fake alibi to cover for themselves while committing the robbery.
It was just a feeling in my gut, but not one I could just ignore. A little signal light telling me some of these cases were related and others weren’t. The tough part would be sorting them all out. Chances are the real perp in this situation had a pattern. Like any human they would always leave behind something no matter how hard they tried not to. But this one was a tough cookie. This thief was smart. On the surface there wasn’t much to separate their work from any other solo thief. I’m starting to think some already so called “solved” cases might also be linked to this same guy. Only time will tell though.
With a cup of coffee in one hand Bai continued to look over the files strewn out before her. She couldn’t honestly tell anyone how much coffee she had drank though this was how she usually spent her time when looking over a case. A shame she couldn’t smoke in there though. Not that she really needed to, what with the damage to her lungs and all. But the act of smoking always did seem to help her clear her mind. Still though she was given this case since no one else could figure it out. If she could catch whoever was responsible for these thefts it would be a huge positive mark on her career.
Going to take another sip of her coffee Bai noticed that the porcelain mug was empty. Just like the last several times she had completely drained it she placed the drinking vessel towards the edge of the table, not paying much attention to the wait staff. The waitresses here were usually pretty quick about refilling. They did have a few new faces though. After all the last time she had been here was over five months ago before she was hospitalized. It was good to be back in familiar territory now.

[googlefont=Libre Baskerville:400i|Open Sans] [nospaces] [attr="class","shianov"] [attr="class","shianmtop"]Ego | Shian [attr="class","shianimgtop1"] [attr="class","shianimgtop"] [attr="class","shianicon"] [attr="class","shianmain1"] [attr="class","shianquote"] ❝ Looking into Yakuza death threats, master? [attr="class","shianmain"] Such a gloomy day was this, the nights where it rained and rained; Shian was already performing overtime for the small vintage styled diner. Such a place seemed really strange like it was almost from a century ago as jazz filled the air. Even stranger still, in true Japanese fashion, the place chose to have the waitresses dress like maids of all things. Shian didn't mind dressing in such ways; this was one of their many disguises after all. One patron remained in the diner at such a late hour as this, with Shian as the only waitress left. This singular patron was female, and seemed to hold an air of authority; a cop maybe? Standing behind the primary counter, Shian started counting how much cash was left in the register; maybe take a single twenty without them noticing? Keeping the last member within her eyes, she noticed them try to go for another swig of their coffee, only to return it to the table empty after receiving none left. Guess they needed more.[break][break] A fresh pot had been recently brewed as this was common for Shian to have a mug before leaving. Something stopped him from pilfering some cash before leaving; choosing to not skim a little off the top and vanish like he normally did and instead, find out what this woman in her midst was up to. Smiling warmly, they stepped into the back of the diner, grabbed her own mug, and walked out into the main room. The pot was fresh, still very hot to the touch; even it was stylized much like the older days; internally it was still very modern, however. "Staying late, master?" Shian spoke, her voice far more upbeat than she naturally kept it. "More coffee?" She knew the answer before the woman could even respond, refilling the coffee mug before placing the tall pot on the far end of the table which was free of papers. With this simple motion, her eyes quickly scanned the documents strewn across the table.[break][break] Investigation papers, but investigating what? Keeping the familiar smile that waitresses tend to have, Shian stood back from the table and bowed. She still needed to be in character despite seeing something so intriguing. "Ah, I see. Working late." The closest paper to Shian was about a burglary of a nearby jewelry store; It seemed several items of great value were stolen and never to be found. A heist from back in January; how strange, was this her own heist? Ah yes, so it would be. That was an interesting one as she was trying to send a message to the owner of the establishment. Some of her friends in the underground needed a hidden message delivered, and deliver she did. From what Shian could tell, the owner did not bring forth the message that was left; but it was noted that the most expensive jewel of theirs was not stolen. Of course not, that would have ruined the message.[break][break] 'Shi, Yakuza.' It was a simple message the owner knew, he had refused a Yakuza member a wedding ring when the price was too high; personally, it was a strange thing to do, threaten another's life over wealth. Shian couldn't figure out what would drive men to do such a thing. They did pay highly, however. Perhaps Shian could find out exactly what the police knew of her own works, but to do that, Shian would need to begin assisting them. They would certainly offer up information if she was seen as an ally, after all. The smile across the maid's face would darken as they spoke up about the specific investigation. "Looking into Yakuza death threats, master?" Still in character, yet Shian knew that none of the papers in front of her on the desk were about death threats, just various burglaries from what appeared to be random civilians. Such information obtained would allow them to play even more elaborate games.[break][break] {Notes} Appearance: Shian's Appearance[break] Shian's Dialogue: be00a0 [break] Word Count: 661[attr="class","addy"] addy[break] [newclass=".shianov"] margin: 0px auto; padding: 5px; border: 1px solid #ddd; background-color: #fcfcfc; width: 500px [/newclass] [newclass=".shianmtop"] background-color: #2c2c2c; padding: 20px; text-align: center; color: #be00a0; font-family: Geneva; text-transform: uppercase; font-size: 9px; letter-spacing: 2px; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianimgtop1"] height: 250px; width: 500px; overflow: hidden;[/newclass] [newclass=".shianimgtop"] height: 250px; width: 400px; background:rgba(0,0,0,0.6); border-right: 1px solid white; position: relative; top: 50%; transform: translateY(-50%); display: flex; flex-direction: column; justify-content: center; margin-left: -300px; transition: 0.5s; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianicon"] float: right; margin-left: auto; height: 65px; width: 65px; background-color: #fdfdfd; border: 5px solid #fdfdfd; transform: rotate(-45deg); margin-right: -38px; overflow: hidden; display: inline-block; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianicon img"] height: 100px; transform: rotate(45deg); margin-left:-17px; margin-top: -15px; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianimgtext"] font-size: 9px; color: white; display: inline-block; width: 250px; font-family: Open Sans; text-transform: uppercase; margin-bottom: -38px; margin-left: 100px; opacity: 0; transition: 0.3s; border-bottom: 1px solid #fdfdfd; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianimgtext a"] color: #BF9D3E; font-family: Open Sans; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianov:hover .shianimgtop"]margin-left:0px; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianov:hover .shianimgtext"]opacity: 1; transition: 0.3s 0.2s; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianmain1"] padding: 40px; background-color: white; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianquote"] padding: 10px 40px 0px 40px; text-align: justify; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1; font-family: Libre Baskerville; margin-bottom: 40px; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianquote div"] color: #be00a0; font-size: 50px; float: left; margin-right: 10px; margin-top: -10px; font-family: Open Sans; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianmain"] font-family: Open Sans; font-size: 10px; text-align: justify; [/newclass] [newclass=".addy"] font-size: 9px; line-height: 10px; letter-spacing: -1px; text-align:right; width:510px; margin:0px auto; [/newclass]

[googlefont=Open+Sans] I think it's time to blow this scene [attr="class","firstfriend"] Get everybody and their stuff together t the time I didn’t understand the significance of these cases. Nor did I understand the impact it would end up having on me and my career. I was like a blind man, unaware of the uneven and winding path ahead of him. But then she… he…. It… I’m not really sure, came walking up. I didn’t know what this maid uniformed person had in store for me, but such a simple meeting would lead me down this path.
Bai barely paid attention when the waitress… well at least they were wearing a female uniform so that seemed like the right term to use. That was one thing that always upset her about this place. What was with those uniforms anyway? Compared to everything else about the diner it just stuck out like a sore thumb. Really, french maid outfits? They weren’t even stylized like some kind of mix of a waitress from the era and a maid. But then again that was probably why most people came here, good food and cute maids. The nineteen fifties design wasn’t exactly everyone’s cup of tea.
“Yeah. Unless you plan to kick me out,” Bai said absently to the maid who had come over to fill her mug. She knew the owner and most the staff here so she often would stick around after close without any issue. But she didn’t recognize this particular waitress (there’s no way she was going to call the girl? A maid). Probably got hired on while Bai was in the hospital. Or just worked a different shift until recently. Not that it really mattered.
See, at the moment I was so focused on my work that I wasn’t paying attention to anything else. All I expected from this dame was a cup of joe, maybe a little idle chatter or flirting. But she wasn’t my type anyway. Being mostly a woman myself I preferred the company of men. She caught my attention though when she said something that didn’t quite make sense.
“Yakuza what?” Bai asked with a raised eyebrow, now looking over at the waitress that was serving her. Definitely not someone she knew or had even seen before. And something was… off about the girl’s face. She had this sort of smile on like a cat who had just eaten the canary. Instantly Bai was on edge, taking not of her surroundings and preparing for a fight. Visibly she didn’t make any kind of movement or tensing up, she didn’t want to have this waitress catch on to anything.
“I think you’re mistaken. These are just some robbery cases,” Bai said, leaving her tone as tired and unenthusiasitc as it had been. She’d need to talk to the owner about this waitress. If she really did work here, or was this some kind of message from the Yakuza towards her? Last she checked she hadn’t pissed them off… yet anyway. Was that the reason these robberies weren’t solved. Was someone at the department being threatened or payed off? Whatever the case something was off about this waitress and she needed to figure that out, as it seemed likely with her comment that this was connected to the case.

[attr="class","shianmain"] The slight comment about being kicked out elicited a slight giggle from Shian; that wasn't going to happen anytime soon, but the fact the detective seemed to have not noticed how the Yakuza had their hands in a few of the heists had Shian rather surprised. Did she not leave behind enough hints? How long was it until this investigation was dropped? That was no fun. Just some robbery cases she said, that was just far too simple-minded.[break][break] Laughing a bit, Shian responded. "You didn't notice?" As the words left her mouth she picked up the paper she had mentioned before; Shi, the Japanese word for death followed by various bits of information that pointed directly at the Yakuza. "Each of these items stolen match up; in order from most expensive, to least, and each ends with the number 4." Putting the paper back down on the table, it was revealed that she wore skintight black gloves that passed across the list of stolen items; they were arranged in alphabetical order in the report, but their wealth value had thankfully not been retracted. "Look at the types of gems in order of price." Tapping each spot on the colors in order, her hand tapped the yellow sapphire bracelets, amber necklace, quartz and diamond ring, several pounds of unakite, zircon, and then finally, a small amethyst. Shian took a bit of sick mathematical pride and getting the prices of the items in order to be stolen, while also making sure that each item had the recurring number '4' in their pricing.[break][break] "Each one spells out Yaquza... there isn't a gem that starts with a K in it's name. But look, the number 4 appears way too often here; that's not a good number." Shian faked a grimace when mentioning the number. "4. The number of death. This is obviously a death threat." Shian pulled back her hand, and took a step away from the table, still wearing the creepy smile, before bowing. "We're closing up shop soon but you can stay. We just won't be taking any new visitors." Shian turned away from the table and began walking away, expecting the investigator to stop her. After all, she did just give a bunch of information that was hidden between the lines, on an investigation paper at first glance; that if anything, should yield a bit of an investigation.[break][break] If she was not stopped to return to the back to change out of the maid uniform.[break][break] {Notes} Appearance: Shian's Appearance[break] Shian's Dialogue: be00a0 [break] Word Count: 414[attr="class","addy"] addy[break] [newclass=".shianov"] margin: 0px auto; padding: 5px; border: 1px solid #ddd; background-color: #fcfcfc; width: 500px [/newclass] [newclass=".shianmtop"] background-color: #2c2c2c; padding: 20px; text-align: center; color: #be00a0; font-family: Geneva; text-transform: uppercase; font-size: 9px; letter-spacing: 2px; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianimgtop1"] height: 250px; width: 500px; overflow: hidden;[/newclass] [newclass=".shianimgtop"] height: 250px; width: 400px; background:rgba(0,0,0,0.6); border-right: 1px solid white; position: relative; top: 50%; transform: translateY(-50%); display: flex; flex-direction: column; justify-content: center; margin-left: -300px; transition: 0.5s; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianicon"] float: right; margin-left: auto; height: 65px; width: 65px; background-color: #fdfdfd; border: 5px solid #fdfdfd; transform: rotate(-45deg); margin-right: -38px; overflow: hidden; display: inline-block; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianicon img"] height: 100px; transform: rotate(45deg); margin-left:-17px; margin-top: -15px; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianimgtext"] font-size: 9px; color: white; display: inline-block; width: 250px; font-family: Open Sans; text-transform: uppercase; margin-bottom: -38px; margin-left: 100px; opacity: 0; transition: 0.3s; border-bottom: 1px solid #fdfdfd; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianimgtext a"] color: #BF9D3E; font-family: Open Sans; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianov:hover .shianimgtop"]margin-left:0px; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianov:hover .shianimgtext"]opacity: 1; transition: 0.3s 0.2s; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianmain1"] padding: 40px; background-color: white; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianquote"] padding: 10px 40px 0px 40px; text-align: justify; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1; font-family: Libre Baskerville; margin-bottom: 40px; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianquote div"] color: #be00a0; font-size: 50px; float: left; margin-right: 10px; margin-top: -10px; font-family: Open Sans; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianmain"] font-family: Open Sans; font-size: 10px; text-align: justify; [/newclass] [newclass=".addy"] font-size: 9px; line-height: 10px; letter-spacing: -1px; text-align:right; width:510px; margin:0px auto; [/newclass]

[googlefont=Open+Sans] I think it's time to blow this scene [attr="class","firstfriend"] Get everybody and their stuff together y gut told me not to trust this waitress, but the things she pointed out here definitely there. How I hadn’t noticed it yet I couldn’t even tell myself. Suddenly I knew that I had gotten rusty in my months stuck in that hospital. Back when I was still fresh I would have looked for any kind of pattern and yet I hadn’t seen what was right in front of my face. Which meant that this waitress was a pattern recognition savant, or she was somehow in on it.
Bai leave the waitress to leave rather than trying to stop her. Right now there were too many unknown variables to try and stop her. If she really was connected to this in some way then making it known that she was on guard about it wasn’t a good idea. The better strategy was to make it seem like she wasn’t as much of a threat. If she played dumb then it might help her get closer to the source of whatever this was, if this waitress as in fact connected to it all that is.
Looking back at the files presented before her Bai began to examine the places and items taken. She’d need to take notes on it all later but already she was starting to see some similarities in a lot of these cases, though in a few they were absent. Perhaps that meant that the thief with the face stealing quirk wasn’t behind those ones. Which brought another scary thought to Bai. It was possible that some people had been arrested for crimes they didn’t do simply because someone was able to copy their appearance and they didn’t have strong enough evidence that they weren’t there at the time.
All it took was a little push and the possible patterns began to light up in front of her eyes like a christmas tree. Bai would need some time to put it all together, and to make sure she wasn’t going to get any false positives. After all, unless this thief was very careful there was a chance that random messages they didn’t want to get through were being made. Still though, right now she had to play her cards close to the chest. Whether this waitress was related to the robberies or the Yakuza, or if she was simply some kind of genius it didn’t matter. Bai had to presume the former until she could disprove it. After all, the last thing she needed was to get caught off guard again. Chances are next time someone tried to kill her she wouldn’t end up so lucky.

[googlefont=Libre Baskerville:400i|Open Sans] [nospaces] [attr="class","shianov"] [attr="class","shianmtop"]Ego | Shian [attr="class","shianimgtop1"] [attr="class","shianimgtop"] [attr="class","shianicon"] [attr="class","shianmain1"] [attr="class","shianquote"] ❝ You are a detective, right? Oh, I forgot. Nice to meet you, I'm Cyan. [attr="class","shianmain"] Shian couldn't help but think about the detective as she began changing outfits in the back. It was exhilarating, meeting someone who was investigating one of her own heists. She had to know just how much information they had, and the best way she could think of was simple; befriend the detective, and help solve a few of her own cases, or at least, prove the innocence of a few who were charged with her own crimes. After all, it was wrong that someone else was getting credit for her work! How rude of them. Perhaps even a few of these heists were copy cats, but Shian doubted that; most of Shian's 'performances' were restricted to tactics that she could only pull off due to her shape-changing nature. If another shapechanger was out there, certainly the two had to meet.[break][break] Rolling the hoodie over her head, he donned an outfit that one would only see men, or tomboys wearing before stepping back out into the main room, before sitting down across from the Detective. "So, figure out anything new about these cases?" Shian's voice sounded genuinely curious and seemed to take a little bit more of a masculine tone now that he was no longer acting out his role as a maid. "I've always been curious as to how detectives work." [break][break] Pouring himself a small cup of coffee, he took a quick sip of the bitter liquid. "You are a detective, right? Oh, I forgot. Nice to meet you, I'm Cyan." He purposely pronounced his own name in proper English with such a way that if the detective tried searching for his name anywhere, it would never yield his own face. Shian, of course, was his real name but the letters used to spell it were drastically different than the words used to spell Cyan, despite them having the exact same sound phonetically in Japanese. If the detective ever came across him again after this encounter, he would have an excuse as to why the detective never found his name; if he ever came across the detective again. Also, since the Japanese tend to go by their last name first, it would slow the detective down even further if he were to end up as a suspect; this was one of the benefits of having a first name that could be construed as a last name.[break][break] "And your name?" Shian wouldn't offer his hand to shake, mostly due to the knowledge that every time he had ever tried it was impossible as the other had a quirk. It would be a bad idea to show the transformation part of his quirk at a time like this, especially to the detective. Taking a few more sips of his coffee he would make eye contact with the Detective, smile with that same slightly sinister smile from earlier.[break][break] Now, instead of being in the maid outfit that he was in earlier, Shian wore a black and dark red hoodie, keeping his hands inside the sleeves even while holding his coffee mug. Underneath the hoodie was a black sweater, and below that it appeared Shian was wearing a form-fitting shirt below the hoodie itself, hiding most of his skin from sight. At his side, he had a small arm-bag that looked like it would be able to carry a small laptop.[break][break] [attr="class","addy"] addy[break] [newclass=".shianov"] margin: 0px auto; padding: 5px; border: 1px solid #ddd; background-color: #fcfcfc; width: 500px [/newclass] [newclass=".shianmtop"] background-color: #2c2c2c; padding: 20px; text-align: center; color: #be00a0; font-family: Geneva; text-transform: uppercase; font-size: 9px; letter-spacing: 2px; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianimgtop1"] height: 250px; width: 500px; overflow: hidden;[/newclass] [newclass=".shianimgtop"] height: 250px; width: 400px; background:rgba(0,0,0,0.6); border-right: 1px solid white; position: relative; top: 50%; transform: translateY(-50%); display: flex; flex-direction: column; justify-content: center; margin-left: -300px; transition: 0.5s; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianicon"] float: right; margin-left: auto; height: 65px; width: 65px; background-color: #fdfdfd; border: 5px solid #fdfdfd; transform: rotate(-45deg); margin-right: -38px; overflow: hidden; display: inline-block; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianicon img"] height: 100px; transform: rotate(45deg); margin-left:-17px; margin-top: -15px; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianimgtext"] font-size: 9px; color: white; display: inline-block; width: 250px; font-family: Open Sans; text-transform: uppercase; margin-bottom: -38px; margin-left: 100px; opacity: 0; transition: 0.3s; border-bottom: 1px solid #fdfdfd; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianimgtext a"] color: #BF9D3E; font-family: Open Sans; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianov:hover .shianimgtop"]margin-left:0px; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianov:hover .shianimgtext"]opacity: 1; transition: 0.3s 0.2s; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianmain1"] padding: 40px; background-color: white; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianquote"] padding: 10px 40px 0px 40px; text-align: justify; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1; font-family: Libre Baskerville; margin-bottom: 40px; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianquote div"] color: #be00a0; font-size: 50px; float: left; margin-right: 10px; margin-top: -10px; font-family: Open Sans; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianmain"] font-family: Open Sans; font-size: 10px; text-align: justify; [/newclass] [newclass=".addy"] font-size: 9px; line-height: 10px; letter-spacing: -1px; text-align:right; width:510px; margin:0px auto; [/newclass]

[googlefont=Open+Sans] I think it's time to blow this scene [attr="class","firstfriend"] Get everybody and their stuff together ai didn’t look up from the papers in front of her until the waitress was only a few steps away from the table. The first thing she noticed was the interesting change of clothing she had taken on. Though now she looked more like a he. Not the first androgynous person she had ever run into. Of course this person’s lack of defining gender features wasn’t even close to on the list of her concerns right now. It did take her off guard slightly that they decided to join her at the table but Bai wasn’t about to protest it. Right now she would simply carry one like she had been, though playing things a bit closer to the chest as much as she could. Already this waitress had seen the files so there was no use in hiding them now.
“Not really. I think they gave me all this because nobody wanted so many unsolved robberies on their record. Doesn’t look good,” Bai said with a small sigh as she picked up her mug and took another sip of the bitter black coffee, “these days it’s mostly evidence gathering. With DNA and cameras and fingerprints and all of that there’s a lot of stuff that’s easy to solve. Which unfortunately means that old fashioned investigative work doesn’t get done a lot these days. Kind of a double edged sword, you know? On one hand most criminals are idiots and get caught easily, but that makes the cops lazy and when a smart one does come along it’s harder for them to get caught since no one knows what to do.” Right now she had to make herself seem like just another detective in this modern era. Relying mostly on what forensics could tell them and maybe some internet research. The last thing she wanted this thief or the Yakuza to know right this moment was that the police’s “attack dog” had their scent.
It was hard not to let her mind start doing it’s thing right now. With that one little piece of information she wanted to start making the connections. The image of a board with a bunch of pinned pictures and news articles came to mind, all connected with a mess of red string. Of course her methods weren’t so fit for the big screen but they were far more organized. Plus it didn’t look like she was a crazy conspiracy theorist.
It was hard to keep my mind to itself. But while the waitress across from me might not of looked the part something told me that she was as venomous a snake as they come. That smile sent winter chills down my spine whenever I looked up at it. My gut was telling me that there was no way that she was simply able to call out that pattern by chance, and my gut had rarely ever done me wrong.
“Huh. Interesting name. Name's Inspector Bai Zheng, tokyo municipal police department,” she introduced herself, looking up from her papers again to get a better look at the person sitting across from her. She hadn’t paid much attention to the name badge that she had been wearing earlier but that didn’t matter. After all, Bai did know the owner of this place so she would just ask him. Of course she could use her powers as an officer of the law to get that information from any business but considering that the owner was an old friend she probably wouldn’t need to. There was a chance that she didn’t work here, or that she was new, but the odds of someone connected to the case she was investigating working at the diner she prefers to go to was astronomically low. No matter what though she would have to make sure she was quiet about this. If the Yakuza or the thief were connected to this Cyan character then the last thing she wanted was to tip them off.

[attr="class","shianmain"] Bai Zheng, huh? It must really suck to be given the 'scraps.' Oh, what kind of mystery you accidentally fell upon. Having scanned a few, Shian began to notice that each of these was performed by himself until his eyes caught something that he absolutely did not like. A copycat. Someone was stealing in the same fashion as him; that wasn't right. This was his game, not some minors. Whoever it was, it seemed that nobody had been apprehended for this robbery, but there was a single picture from a nondescript figure. [break][break] Shian's gaze would linger on this, and the smile would flicker for a moment with a glare before black silk covered hand swooped out from underneath the hoodie, swiping about four pages from the pile it was on. Lowering his hood with one sleeved hand before putting holding it to his face his smile wavered once more as he took a more studious look. This was strange, eight items were stolen, each with the same MO as him, in fact, he remembered doing a heist like this but it wasn't this location. With extreme finger dexterity, he thumbed through each page using only a single hand; this might have accidentally revealed to the detective a strange past about Shian himself. There were very few jobs on the planet one would obtain such dexterity from, and being a waitress was not one of them.[break][break] "Hmm... what do you know about this one?" Shian spoke aloud. "Looks like eight items stolen, but it seems you have no suspect." Placing two of the four pages back onto the table, Shian stared at a few lines of text, trying to filter through his own brain to the hidden dark forums that he frequented at home. There was one user there that he was constantly watching the actions of, but this was only because the said user had become interested in his own actions as of late. Perhaps that user was smarter than he looked, but he made one critical mistake. Shian knew their screen-name in the deep web; of course, it had to be them! A pen. They need a pen quick! Ego was someone who posed as others, not the other way around. Pausing, Shian coughed lightly before putting down the other two papers.[break][break] Calm down, calm down. You aren't normally so easily flustered, Ego. The sinister smile came back, their mind locking the thought process in the side of their mind for later. He had an offer for this Bai Zheng, perhaps this was the into seeing behind the scenes of this detective that he just found was hunting him. "Say, Inspector Zheng, if I offered to help you find out who is behind this..." His voice trailed off. Normally, one might have a twinkle in their eye but Shian's expression remained the smile he was known for while his voice took a more deadpan tone.[break][break] [attr="class","addy"] addy[break] [newclass=".shianov"] margin: 0px auto; padding: 5px; border: 1px solid #ddd; background-color: #fcfcfc; width: 500px [/newclass] [newclass=".shianmtop"] background-color: #2c2c2c; padding: 20px; text-align: center; color: #be00a0; font-family: Geneva; text-transform: uppercase; font-size: 9px; letter-spacing: 2px; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianimgtop1"] height: 250px; width: 500px; overflow: hidden;[/newclass] [newclass=".shianimgtop"] height: 250px; width: 400px; background:rgba(0,0,0,0.6); border-right: 1px solid white; position: relative; top: 50%; transform: translateY(-50%); display: flex; flex-direction: column; justify-content: center; margin-left: -300px; transition: 0.5s; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianicon"] float: right; margin-left: auto; height: 65px; width: 65px; background-color: #fdfdfd; border: 5px solid #fdfdfd; transform: rotate(-45deg); margin-right: -38px; overflow: hidden; display: inline-block; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianicon img"] height: 100px; transform: rotate(45deg); margin-left:-17px; margin-top: -15px; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianimgtext"] font-size: 9px; color: white; display: inline-block; width: 250px; font-family: Open Sans; text-transform: uppercase; margin-bottom: -38px; margin-left: 100px; opacity: 0; transition: 0.3s; border-bottom: 1px solid #fdfdfd; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianimgtext a"] color: #BF9D3E; font-family: Open Sans; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianov:hover .shianimgtop"]margin-left:0px; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianov:hover .shianimgtext"]opacity: 1; transition: 0.3s 0.2s; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianmain1"] padding: 40px; background-color: white; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianquote"] padding: 10px 40px 0px 40px; text-align: justify; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1; font-family: Libre Baskerville; margin-bottom: 40px; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianquote div"] color: #be00a0; font-size: 50px; float: left; margin-right: 10px; margin-top: -10px; font-family: Open Sans; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianmain"] font-family: Open Sans; font-size: 10px; text-align: justify; [/newclass] [newclass=".addy"] font-size: 9px; line-height: 10px; letter-spacing: -1px; text-align:right; width:510px; margin:0px auto; [/newclass]

[googlefont=Open+Sans] I think it's time to blow this scene [attr="class","firstfriend"] Get everybody and their stuff together eeping her attention away from the person sitting across from her Bai pretended like she was just another dumb detective. She had to keep the rouse up, which wasn’t honestly that difficult with how little sleep she’d had recently. This case had been dropped in her lap and she had been wracking her brain on it for hours now. Someone coming along and unlocking it all for her was too much of a coincidence for her to believe in. She wasn’t a gambling woman and right now she wasn’t going to gamble on the possibility that this Cyan character was actually friendly.
I felt there was a break in the supposed waitress’ demeanor when they picked up a set up papers rapidly. Hiding their face from me was a key indicator. Most the time people hide their face when talking because they were embarrassed. Or here in Japan it was a cultural thing with eating or something. Those four papers though were now of prime interest to me. Something about them had caught this Cyan person’s attention. Either that or this was a diversion from the other cases, trying to make me think that they were more important. I’d know later once I did a proper investigation into the cases.
As two of the papers were put down Bai looked them over with tired eyes, putting into her memory which ones they were so she could separate them from the rest later. Decoys or not she would need to know which ones had caused this reaction. Reaching out she took the two papers and gave each one a quick scan. “Not much. Just what’s in these papers here. Like I said, just got this all dropped on me recently so there’s not much beyond what’s here that I know about,” Bai said with an exasperated sigh. For once being deadly tired was actually helping her out.
And there it was. The crux of all of this. Bai didn’t know what to expect but now she could more easily figure out this Cyan’s aims. They wanted to be able to watch this investigation from the inside, or at least if they really were what Bai’s gut was saying they were that was the most likely case. The next move would really decide how things went from here though. As much as she couldn’t show it Bai was getting excited. A game of wits was something she never really got with most criminals. Most would break down after a few hours in an interrogation room with her. But right now she had to tread lightly as she wasn’t aware of her opponents strengths or weaknesses. “I mean. If you’re interested in becoming a police liaison there’s an application process. I’m not to familiar with it myself but you basically go down to the local station and they’ll point you in the right direction. It takes a while as they run a background check and put all your information in the system and everything but if you’re interested in seeing detective work up close that’s probably the best way. Can’t guarantee you’d be put with me though,” Bai said with a shrug.

[googlefont=Libre Baskerville:400i|Open Sans] [nospaces] [attr="class","shianov"] [attr="class","shianmtop"]Ego | Shian [attr="class","shianimgtop1"] [attr="class","shianimgtop"] [attr="class","shianicon"] [attr="class","shianmain1"] [attr="class","shianquote"] ❝ "Yeah yeah I know the process." [attr="class","shianmain"] Pity, that meant Shian might have to do most of the groundwork to prevent this copycat from hurting his own reputation in the underworld more than it would ever be for being a shapeshifting burglar. No matter how badly he wanted in on this investigation, Shian knew that a lot of the work needed to be done as Ego himself, after all the copycat would certainly come out if the one behind their own work was asking for them specifically. Unfortunately for Shian, that quickly became his only way in as the investigator completely blew off his mention of assistance. Damn, there goes that chance; perhaps he could befriend this Bai instead.[break][break] "Yeah yeah I know the process." An exasperated sigh came from Shian as he relaxed his body in his seat, resting the coffee mug directly in front of him. "I've already tried. They ran a quick background check and one stupid thing I did back in middle school has me pretty much condemned from any proper police work." Lifting the mug and moving it side to side he lightly stirred the coffee, before taking a quick sip of it. "Wish I could get that off my record but oh well." This time he took a much larger drink than before, before sliding the mug to the side of the table and standing up slightly in the booth, performing an obviously acted stretch, something that one would do when they know they were about to do something they didn't want to do and had to calm down before-hand. This was an act however, Shian didn't need to calm down for what was about to happen, or at least in his mind, he didn't.[break][break] A few years ago, when Shian was still in school, he had been charged with breaking an entering; it was just a student pranking the school, but they certainly did not take it that way. A mark was placed on Shian's record, something that had been nearly erased through hard work but enough to keep him completely out of law enforcement jobs without hard proof that he was fit for the job. Whether or not the detective there knew about it, was a different story. Who knew that the school would get so upset about someone removing the door handles of every single door in the school. Every single one. This wasn't the only reason he would be denied anything from the police as he knew it was extremely hard to trust someone who you literally could not touch, especially when they had a background of pick-pocketing.[break][break] "Besides, I bet it's hard for a cop to trust someone they can't touch." A slight chuckle would come from their core before tensing his hand. "Go ahead, see what I mean." Shian fully expected the detective to shake his hand not knowing the person he was seated with was utterly quirkless. If, and when, the detective shakes Shian's hand, all composure from the man would vanish as shock filled their expression, resulting in pulling back their hand the moment they felt full contact with skin; this was something that had not happened to Shian so far in his life except for one time with a childhood friend.[break][break] [attr="class","addy"] addy[break] [newclass=".shianov"] margin: 0px auto; padding: 5px; border: 1px solid #ddd; background-color: #fcfcfc; width: 500px [/newclass] [newclass=".shianmtop"] background-color: #2c2c2c; padding: 20px; text-align: center; color: #be00a0; font-family: Geneva; text-transform: uppercase; font-size: 9px; letter-spacing: 2px; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianimgtop1"] height: 250px; width: 500px; overflow: hidden;[/newclass] [newclass=".shianimgtop"] height: 250px; width: 400px; background:rgba(0,0,0,0.6); border-right: 1px solid white; position: relative; top: 50%; transform: translateY(-50%); display: flex; flex-direction: column; justify-content: center; margin-left: -300px; transition: 0.5s; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianicon"] float: right; margin-left: auto; height: 65px; width: 65px; background-color: #fdfdfd; border: 5px solid #fdfdfd; transform: rotate(-45deg); margin-right: -38px; overflow: hidden; display: inline-block; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianicon img"] height: 100px; transform: rotate(45deg); margin-left:-17px; margin-top: -15px; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianimgtext"] font-size: 9px; color: white; display: inline-block; width: 250px; font-family: Open Sans; text-transform: uppercase; margin-bottom: -38px; margin-left: 100px; opacity: 0; transition: 0.3s; border-bottom: 1px solid #fdfdfd; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianimgtext a"] color: #BF9D3E; font-family: Open Sans; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianov:hover .shianimgtop"]margin-left:0px; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianov:hover .shianimgtext"]opacity: 1; transition: 0.3s 0.2s; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianmain1"] padding: 40px; background-color: white; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianquote"] padding: 10px 40px 0px 40px; text-align: justify; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1; font-family: Libre Baskerville; margin-bottom: 40px; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianquote div"] color: #be00a0; font-size: 50px; float: left; margin-right: 10px; margin-top: -10px; font-family: Open Sans; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianmain"] font-family: Open Sans; font-size: 10px; text-align: justify; [/newclass] [newclass=".addy"] font-size: 9px; line-height: 10px; letter-spacing: -1px; text-align:right; width:510px; margin:0px auto; [/newclass]

[googlefont=Open+Sans] I think it's time to blow this scene [attr="class","firstfriend"] Get everybody and their stuff together art of me left for the girl… or guy. I couldn’t say that my own record was spotless, at least not in reality. On paper of course it was squeaky clean. Maybe I got lucky, or maybe it was destiny. But then again perhaps it was just a balance of things. After all being born without a quirk was a pretty serious disadvantage in this world. Now I couldn’t simply ignore the possibility that she was straight up lying to me. I couldn’t let something like this get through my guard right now. I knew all too well that some people were very good at lying.
“Sounds rough. Life ain't’ fair all the time though. Trust me I know that all too well,” Bai said, reaching out for her mug of coffee and taking a long swig of it, “damn. Almost wish this was bourbon.” With a small laugh she continued to half heartedly scan over the papers laid out on the table in front of her. Perhaps it was getting about time to pack up and leave. As much as she could find out more with this new patterns revealed to her she could get some serious work done but not in front of this Cyan person.
The next move kind of surprised her. Offering out their hand for Bai to take. Did this Cyan character have some kind of quirk that made it so that people couldn’t touch them? It could be a trick but something told her that wasn’t the case. Taking the chance she reached out to take Cyan’s hand in a shake. Sure enough it went like any other handshake she’d ever had, well besides that Cyan pulled their hand back rather quickly from the shake. However the simple fact that their hands touched seemed to surprise the person who had joined her at the table.
“I take it that wasn’t supposed to happen?” Bai asked with a small laugh. For the first time it seemed that this Cayn’s person had really broken composure. In fact it was somewhat amusing to see. And it was no act. Bai had never seen someone able to fake or act that kind of surprise. She wasn’t sure what was going on but there had to be some kind of explanation to it. It seemed like Cyan really thought that Bai wouldn’t be able to touch him… or her.

[attr="class","shianmain"] "N-no. No, it wasn't." Involuntary stammering, how odd. Coughing lightly, and clearing his throat, Shian cleared his mind. "So... that means you're..." Shian didn't want to finish that line. They had only met one other quirkless person in their life, and that was an old, old friend of theirs back in the orphanage. From what he knew, his quirk just didn't work on those who had no quirks but the fact this detective was quirkless scared him. If he screwed up a single time, and this detective began to expect him and he was to be placed under arrest there would have been nothing he could do. Ego was not a fighter, he was a trickster, a planner... a mastermind. As he thought he stepped back towards the counter appearing almost in a daze before turning around with a smile that seemed far more sincere than the ones he provided before.[break][break] "Sorry, I didn't mean to act so strangely. It's just..." His voice trailed off as his eyes drifted outside. "It's my quirk." Shian felt like he was trying to put on an act, but it felt so real at the same time. "They are like gifts, you know? Except mine is that I can't touch the gifted." He almost wanted to add 'from up above' to the gifts line, but knew that sounded far too religious. Perhaps he should take a break from the chapel for a few days or so, the religion was starting to have adverse effects on him. He'd look back over to Bai, leaning back on the counter. It was as if he could tell just why the woman would have become a detective; it certainly beats being a waitress at some small antique diner that forced maid outfits onto everyone.[break][break] The world outside had started to get quite dark by this time, becoming tinted with an eerie blue-ish like color from the moon and the rain. "So... Detective Zheng." The man sighed heavily with what he was about to do. It was on a whim, of course, but sometimes it had to be done. "I might frequent a few forums here and there... and there's this guy online that keeps calling himself 'Ego.' At first, he would just reference random places at random hours of the day but... one post stuck out to me." As he spoke, he flicked his wrist and with it, his phone appeared in his hand. Quickly swiping and tapping away, he pulled up a small forum post.[break][break] This post on the forum was placed online from another location, certainly not from this device, but the user was named Ego. He had posted this himself the day of the robbery. Murder didn't sit too well with the man despite being of criminal intent himself; the man was in the game for the thrill of being chased, for fun. Normally, he didn't give away his riddles, but at least in this 'secret' identity of his he could. On the screen, one could see many 4's randomly posted across the thread, and in the centre an address, and a date; today's date, April 22nd. The post was uploaded the day of the robbery Shian had pointed out earlier as the death threat, but they had only a few minutes left before the timestamp was accurate.[break][break] "This was the one that stood out the most. When he started dropping addresses to businesses I thought it was some bot, but then they started getting all weird and... this one isn't to a business, it's to a house." Shian grimaced. "I couldn't find any information about the tenants online, but the dates..." He'd step forward and place the phone in front of Bai so she could get a better look before tapping on the date of the burglary with the death threat. "Do you think that might be the owner's address?"[break][break] Such an elaborate act, Shian. What were you doing? Sure this was saving someone's life, but the Yakuza paid well, and wouldn't this ruin your relationship with them? Of course, it would if the cops showed up to stop the murder, but it felt easier for Shian to just forget it happened, and live without a guilty conscience. Now, however, being reminded of the heist... was that remorse? Was that why he was doing this? Maybe. All he could do is hope that the detective followed the trail he showed her to at least get someone to show up at that man's house, to save his family from death. If what the Yakuza had told him was true, the man himself would be out on a business trip to Sapporo, far north of here, but his family would still be at home. There were just a few more things he had to do to make his actions seem more genuine, and it would entirely be based on how the detective responded to this new information.[break][break] [attr="class","addy"] addy[break] [newclass=".shianov"] margin: 0px auto; padding: 5px; border: 1px solid #ddd; background-color: #fcfcfc; width: 500px [/newclass] [newclass=".shianmtop"] background-color: #2c2c2c; padding: 20px; text-align: center; color: #be00a0; font-family: Geneva; text-transform: uppercase; font-size: 9px; letter-spacing: 2px; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianimgtop1"] height: 250px; width: 500px; overflow: hidden;[/newclass] [newclass=".shianimgtop"] height: 250px; width: 400px; background:rgba(0,0,0,0.6); border-right: 1px solid white; position: relative; top: 50%; transform: translateY(-50%); display: flex; flex-direction: column; justify-content: center; margin-left: -300px; transition: 0.5s; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianicon"] float: right; margin-left: auto; height: 65px; width: 65px; background-color: #fdfdfd; border: 5px solid #fdfdfd; transform: rotate(-45deg); margin-right: -38px; overflow: hidden; display: inline-block; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianicon img"] height: 100px; transform: rotate(45deg); margin-left:-17px; margin-top: -15px; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianimgtext"] font-size: 9px; color: white; display: inline-block; width: 250px; font-family: Open Sans; text-transform: uppercase; margin-bottom: -38px; margin-left: 100px; opacity: 0; transition: 0.3s; border-bottom: 1px solid #fdfdfd; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianimgtext a"] color: #BF9D3E; font-family: Open Sans; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianov:hover .shianimgtop"]margin-left:0px; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianov:hover .shianimgtext"]opacity: 1; transition: 0.3s 0.2s; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianmain1"] padding: 40px; background-color: white; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianquote"] padding: 10px 40px 0px 40px; text-align: justify; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1; font-family: Libre Baskerville; margin-bottom: 40px; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianquote div"] color: #be00a0; font-size: 50px; float: left; margin-right: 10px; margin-top: -10px; font-family: Open Sans; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianmain"] font-family: Open Sans; font-size: 10px; text-align: justify; [/newclass] [newclass=".addy"] font-size: 9px; line-height: 10px; letter-spacing: -1px; text-align:right; width:510px; margin:0px auto; [/newclass]

[googlefont=Open+Sans] I think it's time to blow this scene [attr="class","firstfriend"] Get everybody and their stuff together t was an art, learning to read body language and vocal tone. Most people thought they could do it, and most people are wrong. A good liar could trick the average joe, or even a rookie detective. Some people were born liars, sociopaths, psychopaths, those kinds. Some were raised to be good at lying. But this reaction was genuine, whatever had caused my hand to be able to touch theirs was something they weren’t used to and obviously didn’t know how to handle.
Sitting back in her chair Bai didn’t really need to fake any kind of surprise. After all, this wasn’t the reaction one would expect from a simple hand shake. Though she didn’t have to wait that long for an explanation, well not that long in the grand scheme of things. It was a few seconds though there was still an explanation. So Bai was able to touch Cyan because she was quirkless. An interesting thing to take note of, and it would make for an especially good quirk for a criminal as well. After all, it’d be hard to catch someone if you literally couldn’t catch them.
In a world where being quirkless was what made someone abnormal it probably would freak someone out if their quirk relied on someone else having one too only to find out that person didn’t have one. Bai would definitely need to figure out who this Cyan character was. The chances that they weren’t involved in some way was way too low for her to ignore them.
Raising an eyebrow Bai leaned forward in her seat. Giving up information now? Good. Either this Cyan thought Bai wasn’t smart enough to figure it all out or they were actually having something weighing down on their conscience. It didn’t matter to Bai either way. What did matter was that forum. She hadn’t heard of it before but she memorized the URL at the top before reading what was below. It did seem like this Ego character was connected to these robberies in some way as well. There was no way this was all a coincidence. Someone wanted her to know this, be it this Cyan person or the one pulling their strings. She would need to be careful but if she could get a tech guy on this then she could monitor at least this forum. And if she got lucky they might even find other forums like this. Hell it could be a goldmine for not just this investigation but quite a few others. Bai would really look more into this later.
What came next though snapped Bai out of her half pretend tired daze. If that guy and his family were in danger then she would need to do something about it. She had to, it was something she couldn’t ignore. Pulling out her phone Bai scrolled through her contacts for the direct line to police dispatch. “Dispatch. Inspector Bai Zheng, badge six seven four eight two. I need units to the following address A S A P. I have word on a possible murder attempt, it might be Yakuza related,” Bai said before reading off the address of the house. After getting informed that units were being sent there expecting a fight she hung up and placed her phone on the table. Hopefully she was in time to keep this guy and his family safe. Not only did she hate to hear about people dying, but if he could be kept out of harm's way he could prove to be instrumental to getting more information about these cases.

[googlefont=Libre Baskerville:400i|Open Sans] [nospaces] [attr="class","shianov"] [attr="class","shianmtop"]Ego | Shian [attr="class","shianimgtop1"] [attr="class","shianimgtop"] [attr="class","shianicon"] [attr="class","shianmain1"] [attr="class","shianquote"] ❝ I hope everything turns out alright. [attr="class","shianmain"] Just as soon as Shian had pointed out the correlation of events, the inspector had moved to act. Six, seven, four, eight, two; the badge numbers of the quirkless policewoman. Such numbers had to be committed to memory, especially if this woman was the one who was selected to be chasing Ego. Thoughts raced through Shian's mind as to how he would utilize these numbers to make the 'game' that much more fun, but had to pause such thoughts for fear of changing their own demeanour. Sighing in relief, Shian picked their phone back up and with a swift motion, it locked, and vanished from sight as if a magician was in their midst. "I hope everything turns out alright." Shian's voice took a melancholic tone. She knew the family was probably captured, being recorded as they were about to end their lives to finalize the threat to the store owner. Why did Shian care? It wasn't as if they were his own family after all. Maybe it was just his bleeding heart, if he actually had one, he didn't know. After all, he was Ego, he was everywhere. We are everywhere. Clearing his throat, emotion came back to the man's voice as he sat back down; moving around so often was typically a sign of restlessness but this was something Shian just did. Sitting still was boring. "Guess it was a good thing we met today, huh? That is if everything turns out alright." Shian had the same smile across his face as he had before, the one that seemed as though it was scheming; perhaps it was just his natural smile?[break][break] Leaning forward and resting his hand on his arm, he looked the inspector straight in the eyes, just staring, waiting to see how they would react in a situation like this. Would they stay? Keep investigating the papers for further pieces of information? Which ones did they keep going back to? Perhaps Shian would need to add some more to this tale. "Think there might be more to this Ego person? I mean, from what it looks like they might be working with the Yakuza." His smile stayed, but his voice returned to deadpan. "I'm kind of curious now how this Ego character found the forum..."[break][break] The forum Shian spoke about was a rather niche part of the net, part of the deep web. To get there, one had to practically be invited, or at least given the direct URL or to have memorized it. Shian himself had already memorized this board, and was one of the earliest users but had never posted; just watched from the sidelines. Ego, on the other hand, was a more recent user over the past few years if one viewed the profile information. It was very minimalist, the forum itself, and stored little to no information about its users; the perfect site for someone such as Ego. To create a user profile on the forum one must request a unique character code from another member, and must be given a code by that member that was randomly generated; Shian gained his own from his long lost quirkless friend and received another from a random user. Unfortunately, these codes could not be backtracked; it was just another downside to the amount of anonymity on the board itself.[break][break] "Someone on the forum must know who Ego is in person. If you'd like I could perhaps ask around, see if I can track them down." Ego's phone would appear in his hand once more; this small trick of his was simply sleight of hand, something he picked up as an orphan long ago and had been perfecting over the years. What was possibly the most impressive part about this feat, was that the hands that produced the phone were always hidden far down in the sleeve; most would believe the phone hidden in the sleeve itself but in reality, his hands were just that quick and dextrous that he could turn his hand over with a few swift movements to procure the device with ease.[break][break] As Ego spoke, his eyes would be locked onto Bai's eyes, watching for subtle movements and changes in her facial expression. If inspecting Shian's own eyes it would be near impossible to find hidden emotions in his own eyes as they were simply two white orbs with a single featureless black dot in the centre of each; subtle changes were impossible to detect.[break][break] [attr="class","addy"] addy[break] [newclass=".shianov"] margin: 0px auto; padding: 5px; border: 1px solid #ddd; background-color: #fcfcfc; width: 500px [/newclass] [newclass=".shianmtop"] background-color: #2c2c2c; padding: 20px; text-align: center; color: #be00a0; font-family: Geneva; text-transform: uppercase; font-size: 9px; letter-spacing: 2px; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianimgtop1"] height: 250px; width: 500px; overflow: hidden;[/newclass] [newclass=".shianimgtop"] height: 250px; width: 400px; background:rgba(0,0,0,0.6); border-right: 1px solid white; position: relative; top: 50%; transform: translateY(-50%); display: flex; flex-direction: column; justify-content: center; margin-left: -300px; transition: 0.5s; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianicon"] float: right; margin-left: auto; height: 65px; width: 65px; background-color: #fdfdfd; border: 5px solid #fdfdfd; transform: rotate(-45deg); margin-right: -38px; overflow: hidden; display: inline-block; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianicon img"] height: 100px; transform: rotate(45deg); margin-left:-17px; margin-top: -15px; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianimgtext"] font-size: 9px; color: white; display: inline-block; width: 250px; font-family: Open Sans; text-transform: uppercase; margin-bottom: -38px; margin-left: 100px; opacity: 0; transition: 0.3s; border-bottom: 1px solid #fdfdfd; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianimgtext a"] color: #BF9D3E; font-family: Open Sans; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianov:hover .shianimgtop"]margin-left:0px; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianov:hover .shianimgtext"]opacity: 1; transition: 0.3s 0.2s; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianmain1"] padding: 40px; background-color: white; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianquote"] padding: 10px 40px 0px 40px; text-align: justify; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1; font-family: Libre Baskerville; margin-bottom: 40px; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianquote div"] color: #be00a0; font-size: 50px; float: left; margin-right: 10px; margin-top: -10px; font-family: Open Sans; [/newclass] [newclass=".shianmain"] font-family: Open Sans; font-size: 10px; text-align: justify; [/newclass] [newclass=".addy"] font-size: 9px; line-height: 10px; letter-spacing: -1px; text-align:right; width:510px; margin:0px auto; [/newclass]

[googlefont=Open+Sans] I think it's time to blow this scene [attr="class","firstfriend"] Get everybody and their stuff together eah, I do too,” Bai said as she sat back in the booth and took a long deep breath. She’d never like waiting, and it had only gotten worse after the incident that had landed her in the hospital. It just made her nervous that something bad was going to happen. Only in this case it wasn’t going to be something bad done to her but this store owner and possibly his family as well. And right now there wasn’t really anything more she could do to help besides hope that the units got there before any harm was done. If they could scare off the Yakuza then Bai could worry about getting them protected after the fact. She didn’t hide the fact that she was nervous, honestly she didn’t see any reason to. Any cop would be on edge given this kind of situation. “Hopefully... Hopefully,” Bai said, a solemn tone taking over as she waited to hear any kind of news.
No longer looking over the papers in front of her Bai’s gaze turned upwards towards the ceiling slightly. Not only did she not want to go too deep into this while this Cyan character was watching but she also really couldn’t keep her mind from going to the worst of outcomes. That was something they never talk about in the police academy. Just how hard it can be sometimes. Seeing a dead body, knowing how it happened. That was one thing. But knowing that someone was in danger and not knowing if you can change the outcome, now that was possibly the worst part. Sure Bai had passed the psychological evaluation to get her badge reinstated once she was out of the hospital, but this was still a tough wait.
“It’s possible. Or they could be a freelance agent. The Yakuza likes to use those for when they don’t want people to catch on that they’re involved. Or when they just want someone else to do their dirty work,” Bai said, her gaze not moving down to meet up with Cyan’s. That smile that they gave off was just too unsettling for her right now. Whether it was on purpose or they just had a naturally creepy smile. In either case Bai didn’t need to see anything like that right now. Not when she had the Yakuza and this store owner on her mind.
“What? No. I wouldn’t recommend it. If they do have connections to the Yakuza then you could be putting yourself in danger by looking into it more,” Bai said, giving the same advice she would give to most anyone who wasn’t already a criminal informant. And as far as she knew this Cyan character wasn’t a criminal. Or, at least she didn’t have any evidence to say that they were, even if her gut was saying that they were more connected to this than they liked to let on. The fact that they had access to a dark web forum was pretty telling. Most of those were notoriously hard to get into and even if you could one wrong move to make the users suspect that you’re not on their side of the law and they’d suddenly disappear and be on a new forum in a matter of days if not hours.
When my phone rang much sooner than I had expected I began to hope for the best. But as the saying goes hope for the best but expect the worse. I answered the phone and the few seconds between then and when the dispatch operator spoke might have been the longest I’d ever experienced. My heart sank when I heard the news, it was worse than I had anticipated. I knew the Yakuza could be ruthless but the news still shocked me when I heard it.
Bai’s expression changed in an instant when she answered her phone. Whatever had happened at that residence was bad and it showed on her face. After a couple of minutes of listening Bai put down her phone and closed her eyes. Taking a deep breath she began to feel light headed. Odd as she had seen dead bodies before and yet just hearing about what happened did this to her. As she opened her eyes once again she realized that her original assumption wasn’t the case. The image of the person sitting across from her began to blur. Damn, this was a sudden onset.
Not saying anything she reached over to the satchel she had in the booth next to her. The same that she normally carried these files in. Opening one of the outside pockets she retrieved an automatic injection needle. Pulling the cap off she set it on the table before using that same hand to lift her shirt. The doctors had showed her the different spots she could inject herself when needed though they were still pestering her to just get a pump. Being stubborn though Bai had refused. Pressing the device to her side of her lower abdomen she felt a slight cold sensation as the room temperature injection went into her body. Holding it there for fifteen seconds she pulled it away and re-attached the cap. Damn. As much as she liked to ignore it her body was still messed up from that incident.
