Aya took a slow, shaking inhale in dismay.
Of course.
Of course it had to be a fucking cat, out of all the things that could have attacked them.
“Tell me this...is not happening…honestly...”
The words were uttered from his lips, his right hand sliding over to his waist, fingers grazing over four knives, as he moved his hand back down the blades slid out of their holsters fluidly and floated around his shoulder. As much as he knew Sen would most probably love to just pet and play with the “cute cat”, for the hero (and for them also) it was a matter of life or death, even if the two were not here to barter their lives for today as much as to just make a small test run of their upcoming villain group.
"Livewire? ...is that who you have up there? All I know is that she is an electrical quirk hero but I assume you already found that out by the sounds of things... if you can find some way to earth it all I suppose... I think I better concentrate a little, we have a cat down here..."
Aya responded to Wisp's question as he kept his senses sharp, he only knew very faint basics about the hero in question which meant he had to use common sense of element quirks. But he guessed his colleague was smart enough to think of this also. Well, well, had they killed someone this feline knew? So was it personal? It seemed like it may be, from what they had said moments before. It meant the cat wasn’t going to play nice in the slightest, and it would be down to him to support his partner as best as possible so they could create some carnage and slide out as easily as they had slid in.
“Well, I am not so certain he likes you very much, Revenant…”
He added as he watched the hero throw a punch, grey speckled eyes following the movements as much as possible in the dim lighting as he moved a little closer to the stairs, and with a flick of his wrist the 4 blades shot out towards the hero’s head, aiming for the bloody creature’s face, though it would mean the blades would hit Sen also if he didn’t move, but by Aya’s calculations Sen usually dodged and swerved a litte to the right, so throwing them from the left side should mean he dodged the blades, almost making it look like they came out of his head.

The smoke made it impossible to see.
It was not exactly an ideal situation to find herself, but then again it rarely was considering her job. It just meant she would have to adapt and soon if she wanted to keep conscious due to the smoke inhalation. Her bolt did absolutely nothing, of course. Though it allowed her to test out the atmosphere. If she could focus beyond the smoke, she might have been able to find him based on electrical currents in his body alone. He wasn't the only one that could hide in plain sight though and if he thought this was gonna be an easy fight he was dead wrong. It had occurred to her that he wasn't the only opponent, where had the other one gone to?
Her mask offered minimal coverage to the smoke for then, but already she could feel the effect of it with a hacking cough. There were a couple of ways she could handle this situation: she could sap the energy from the technology around her and let out one massive electrical blast, which would pacify them, but the issue was in the sprinkler systems and that much electricity would likely back-fire. Or she could simply shift and join in this waiting game. Okay it was now or never, just as she was about to shift once more she spotted a fixture on the wall. The fire alarm. Let's see how this guy did with a little bit of water added to the mix. She moved then, letting her quirk go dormant as she made to activate it.
Um kid, kitty looks pissed. Onryo tried to reason and pierce through the cat-filled void of his host, but Sen wasn’t quite that easily dissuaded from his feline affections. Despite this the fight still boiled in his blood, under the surface, the beast in him unsatisfied that his prior to-be victim was taken away before things could get truly interesting. He easily adapted, dodging the punch though he didn’t react quite as aggressively as he might if the attacker was anything but feline in nature.
Despite everything he could still feel Aya behind him, sense the movement and the throw of the knives. He phased to the right, feeling the ghost-like slip of the knives through his body. "A little close there, Violet-" He growled, slipping back into solid matter. That was when he felt the cut of a blade through his leg, deep and biting, forcing a cry from him- an inhuman, pained animal sort of noise. Instinctively he rose, pushing away from the pain, but stumbled and slipped. Blood spilled over the white marble staircase from the cut to the back of his leg. Grey eyes shifted to blood-red as Onryo took over and pure animal instinct fueled him. He lashed out at the feline hero with shadowy claws.
He took that moment to stumble back, sliding back up the stairs, crawling like a wounded animal. And then he could feel the transformation begin under his skin. Smoke billowed up through cracks in his flesh, which peeled off like flakes of ash. "Bad kitty." He hissed, voice changed then. "Why'd you have to go and do a thing like that? Now he's gonna kill you." Invisibility and phasing was not actually his quirk, just a symptom of a disease. Sen didn't feel in control of himself anymore, he rarely did anymore. His body vanished beneath the shadow and smoke. The creature swallowed him whole and in his stead was it was tall, foreboding, stretching up to the ceiling. Red eyes and sharp teeth as he grinned and then vanished from sight, a predator waiting to strike.

Was a cat that bad? There wasn't a lot of cat based quirks around...worse case, Isamu's relatives. But he had his own issues to deal with, and clicked his ear piece to talk to Wisp. "I have a potentially bad and good idea. When she's in energy form, why not put on the sprinklers? Free-form energy tends to be super unstable, and anything scattering it could mean extremely bad things for her. Problem is doing it without affecting you..." Speaking of...Kyou's eyes glowed molten orange as he took two of his needles and five knives out and back into the small crack he had into the room. And positioned them around the fire alarm. In such a way that she'd risk cutting her hand open or getting stabbed if she actually touched it. With his memory and spatial awareness, he remembered where it was. And hoped Wisp could see in his own smoke.
"I hope you can see in there, it wouldn't surprise me if she's gonna try to do the same thing to you, except not in her energy form. I got the fire alarm covered." Best case would be switching with Wisp, and just waiting for the opportune time to pull the trigger. Problem was, what else can she do? She could have just shocked both of them right away, but didn't. Well, he would wait for orders at the moment, or any bright ideas on how to accomplish what he said. A bait and switch might be the best idea...

Wisp idly tapped the side of his visor as he continued to look down at the woman in the shroud below. The Marionettist hadn't suggested anything that hadn't already crossed his mind, but it sounded like they had their hands well enough full down there anyway, so he didn't press. While he had seen Revenant's reactions to the feline species before and he was sure that even a normal cat had the power to derail the plan, he had a feeling that that wasn't quite what was going on... He himself had a natural affinity for the animals, but their resident pretty boy murderer practically melted in their presence, and if they'd run into a cat hero (there were a handful), then god help them.
It was at that point that Livewire started to move, and Wisp heard Akuma's voice crackle through his earpiece. So the kid thought that water would cause her some issues, which did make some sense, but it wasn't like it did him many favors either. From his point of view, his smoke would handle the job well enough if she was stupid enough to stick around that long. And if she wasn't, well if he could choose when combat started he definitely had the advantage. And then his colleague brought up something that had slipped his mind. As he watched the woman walk toward one of the walls, wondering if it was a good chance to strike, a thought hit him and he cocked his head slightly. "...Wait, fire ala-"
He turned his head just in time to get a face full of water.
Instinctively Wisp threw out a first and smashed the spigot closest to him, but the damage was already done. Normal smoke didn't usually trigger sprinkler systems, but this was hot ash, and he wasn't actually sure if it had been the trigger, or if the hero had managed to pull the alarm. Either way, he'd gotten wet enough that most of the upper body of his suit was nearly soaked through despite the water protection, leaving just his hands, right forearm, and his legs active while the smoke coming from the rest of his body sputtered to a stop. That was just fucking fantastic, guess the waiting game was officially over. With a click of his tongue, the thief braced himself and kicked off from his perch near the ceiling.
In addition to cutting off the smoke supply, the alarm had drastically changed the environment of the lab. Water from the many sprinklers began to pelt down and speed the dissipation of the cloud, and while it would still be thick enough to hamper vision for the next minute or so, bright flashing light illuminated the silhouettes of those within. Wisp figured that his advantage would slip away within the next few seconds, and so he moved. Making use of the now-blaring alarm to cover the sounds of his movement, the thief fired off a burst from his feet and tensed his right arm, propelling himself over toward Livewire while the vent on his hand began to glow red. The shower of water produced a cloak of steam as it came into contact with the rapidly heating limb, and he planted his feet firmly when he touched down behind his foe.
"That was an interesting move." He taunted as he braced his arm and let the building pressure erupt out. A solid wave of force spearheaded a bolt of super-heated ash and flame, instantly drawing a blazing red line through the cloud of smoke from his hand toward Livewire's chest. The shear energy of it caused him to immediately recoil back a few steps with a wave of searing pain running through his arm. But it was worth a bit of discomfort for that kind of power. From experience the thief knew that a direct hit was enough to burn a man out from the inside, but the flare on his thermal display made it impossible to tell if he'd managed so clean a blow. This wasn't just any foe after all, this was an actual licensed hero.
"Get your ass in here Akuma." Wisp growled over his radio as he prepared to defend himself.
***
Lynx's sharp eyes caught a glint of movement from the upper level even as he attacked the man in front of him. His animalistic senses meant that he had no problem seeing in the dark of the stairwell, and having already seen what the black haired man could do, he had a good idea of what to expect when the knives went flying. Even as he continued his attack, his free tail produced another blade and they both lashed out to deflect the projectiles as his main weapon found purchase through the portal.
With the rage that was already flowing through him, Lynx had to admit that the cry of pain was satisfying. He was going to make sure this bastard got everything that was coming to him, and that little cut was just the start. Or so he thought, but then the man started to change into something.... inhuman. His reflexes just barely save him as he rolled into his portal to dodge the sudden slash, appearing behind the villain with a fresh tear in his hood. The thing before him wasn't a man anymore, it was a monster, and Lynx found his grip around his weapons tighten when it spoke.
And then it vanished.
Before the hero could process the whole exchange however, a sudden flash of light stabbed his eyes and his keen ears were assaulted by a deafening drone. He recoiled involuntarily and brought all of his weapons up in defense, his mind only catching up when he started to feel water pelting into his fur. A fire alarm? The guy above wasn't anywhere near the lever, so did that mean there were more around? If that were the case, then...
No, one step at a time.
There was another streak of gold as his foot tore open another rift beneath him and he left himself fall through backwards, appearing again from the wall one floor up with swords at the ready. He didn't know where the demon went, but standing still wasn't a great idea with invisible opponents and there was another enemy to deal with. And so he leveled his gaze at the marionettist and brought his blades to bear.

Aya watched the scene unfold, unable to do much at the distance they were at when the hero’s blades went through Sen’s leg.
“Revenant, pull back a little more to-”
The violet haired man called out, but it was likely Sen wasn’t listening as the other lashed out at the feline being. Before it went too much further, it was probably best for them to anchor and finish this off in Onryo form quickly and leave…
Or that was his thoughts before he felt that strange, distinct pickling feeling against his skin, a faint, brief whiff of burning ran past his nose, and a strange, creeping tension caused his senses to scream at him to be alert as smoke obscured his partner's form. Something inhuman was coming, that was what his base instincts told him, though he refused to let it overtake him and make him freeze, as if he did, he would surely die.
“Rev-NO!!”
He had asked Sen to do one thing in all this tonight in terms of co-op, and he...didn’t. He had studied the other in the last few days to know the black haired man was too emotionally unstable to keep that form without his assistance and for it to be safe for either of them. Trusting someone else always had this distinct risk, and he supposed he had lucked out this time, a miscalculation somewhere. But there was no time to be regretting anything or getting angry, he would do that after they got out of this unfolding mess.
Switch to plan C.
Aya saw the hero vanish into one of those damn portal things again and could only assume he was being targeted, that was the basis of his and Sen’s formations afterall. Bait opponents into going for the tangible, easier target (Aya), when in actual fact that would get them killed faster. Well, their battle formation wasn’t at its most ideal at the moment, (aka Sen may or may not be an uncontrollable rampaging monster right now) but he would just have to work with it and adjust.
Using his right hand he had kept free to connect to Sen, he instead reached out towards the nearest guard’s body on the floor, after a few seconds his quirk connecting with this unconscious body. It felt warm, too warm, slight resistance as the target wasn’t dead, all in all it felt disgusting. The man got up off the floor in strange, jerky movements, his head hanging back limply. It wasn’t as fast or easy as he would have liked and it was a lot of strain on his right hand, but not much he could do. Kimi sprinted behind him to cover his back, he was pretty sure the porting cat would come from behind if anywhere.
“...I have to tell you this man is still alive, so just bear that in mind before you attack me, hero.”
He shouted across the din of the fire alarm as he managed to position the man infront of him. The plan was to disable this hero a little, enough to be able to leave. He just needed a small opening to do so.

Before Livewire could even strike the fire alarm, a collection of objects moved to block it. That must have been the other one's quirk then. It meant she would have either have to brave the pain or think up another plan. The smoke was getting to her head, blocking her thoughts, making her light headed. She didn't have time to think up another quick plan. It wasn't her forte, she was really more of a fry things and get out, pick up some take out, and go home sort of gal. This was in no way ideal. Then again, it seemed she didn't need to make a move at all. The smoke caught up with the (extremely slow) system and then all she could see was smoke and water raining down on top of her. A blaring noise filled her ears as the alarm rang and flashes of light blanketed the room in synchronized bursts.
At this point, her quirk was too dangerous to use, but hopefully the criminals was affected too. She was basing a lot off of hope right then, but the lucky cards were not in her favor.
She felt pain right then, and the intensity of a strike so hard at her back that she had no chance in hell from reacting. Then she crashed to ground. Droplets of water cascaded down her face, unexpected coolness parred with the heat that billowed at her back. Darkness seeped into her vision and then she was out. Dead, blacked out cold, somewhere in between? Hell if she knew.
Sen felt himself drowning, consumed entirely by the swathe of blackness and smoke. The entity swallowed him and left nothing behind. It was too late to regret relying on his instincts or not being able to tell Aya in time. The fear that realization produced only made the process more seamless. Onryō could cleave Aya in half and not think twice about it, and Sen wouldn't be able to stop it, would he? No, now, Onryō was in charge. The phantom slipped from the attacker's sight, momentarily gathering itself, preparing for the madness that followed. And just when he had slipped behind the feline creature, claws inches from biting down and ripping the scalp from the disgusting creature... noise filled the room and water spilled from the ceiling above. Panic filled the phantom then, followed then by inescapable pain. Like being ripped apart and pieced together again a hundred times.
"Make it Stop!!" The demon cried, voice piercing and splintering into a ghostly shriek. Down the hallway lights above cracked and salted the ground in glass and windows shattered beneath the intensity of the cry. Onryō thrashed out then, in and out of visibility without any sense of control. His claws tore through fixtures, walls, anything in its way, anything that could be producing that godly sound, and then, eventually itself. Ripping and tearing through the smoke of its own being until it reached the meaty bits, black blood coating the walls and running down the hall. Then, it twisted upwards and ripped then through the ceiling, mangling through dry wall and sprinkler components and then the closest speaker. Sen slipped farther forward, back into consciousness as exhaustion crippled the demon, until it was a mixture of the two. "Violet," It called out, "Make it stop. Too loud. Too loud." Then following the noise, ripping through speakers and lights, sensation returning as the noise was diluted somewhat. Slipping through the floor and the walls, body mass crackling with instability and sudden exhaustion. "Violet, I'm tired. Kill the cat. Kill it."

As soon as the fire alarm started, Akuma face palmed. The smoke and ash. Of course. Now he felt awfully stupid not even thinking of that. Pulling the door all the way open, he watched as Wisp made his move, and nearly kill Livewire since it seemed she was too slow to act. Or too surprised. Either way, he moved his weapons back to himself and back in their hiding spots. "Yep, already here...and you got her. She's not getting up." Akuma would be lying if he said he wasn't a little bit dejected. He was hoping to show off...but that didn't look like it was going to happen any time soon. Shrugging, he looked over at a couple of the other gadgets that were getting soaked. Only two more were small enough for him him to keep without issue. Grabbing those, he started for the door. And gave an update to Marionnettist.
"Livewire is down. Need some assistance down there?" Aside from the modulating voice, Akuma's voice was stoic. Hopefully he could at least do something besides get lucky. Wisp definitely did all the work here. This has been a breeze so far...Akuma imagined it normally wasn't this easy. And kind of got the feeling that it was unusual for them too. Except for maybe the cat. But he'd have to wait for confirmation on that. Though he was still a little bit confused of why that should matter...but he supposed he'd learn in due time.

As the bloom of thermal energy slowly faded from Wisp's visor, it soon became clear that there was no longer a woman standing in front of him. Where there had been a hero a moment before, there was now just a figure splayed out across the floor, not moving a muscle as the spray from the sprinkler system continued to pour down. Blinking a few times, the thief slowly let his hands fall from his fighting stance and just kinda stared as the temperature reading continued to fade. "....Yeah..." He murmured in response as Akuma entered the room, though he'd barely even registered what the boy had said.
That was a bit too easy, wasn't it? His eyes fixed in on the smoldering hole in Livewire's back as a swarm of thoughts passed through his head. That was a hero. Had been a hero. Not the greatest example of course, but a hero none-the-less, and now she was probably dead. Probably. For some reason he really didn't want to check to make sure, as if the knowledge would change something about him. For all his complaints about the world and the corrupted society he grew up in, heroes had never been the target of Wisp's ire. They weren't his enemies, merely a threat to be avoided whenever possible. In his childhood there were even a handful that he respected, maybe even looked up to a bit... So how did he feel about this? Simply put, he didn't feel much of anything, not yet at least. Probably didn't hurt that she was a piss poor excuse for a hero, but even as he thought on it, his mind didn't seem to make any distinction between her and any other poor soul that had gotten in his way on a job. Would this become the new norm? Would it hit him any differently with one of the more virtuous souls out there?
Akuma's voice over the comms brought Wisp back into the moment and the thief shook his head clear of the distraction. Not really a great time to be getting introspective. His enemy was down and the job wasn't over yet, that was all that mattered. So where had he left off... ah yes. "Hate to say it, but I don't think I'll be much help at the moment." He chimed in as he moved back across the room and claimed the air compressor he'd been eyeing earlier. He was soaked and his whole arm felt like it was burning from the inside out, hell it sort of was, with black smoke billowing out of the vent on his hand. "I believe it's about time we think about making our exit, but first we've gotta do something about this damn water. Kid, you should probably go see if you can help them with their feline friend, I'll take care of the sprinklers. If you can point me toward the security room M, I think I can see about shutting off this bloody racket too."
***
Lynx growled at the man in front of him, his whole body tensing as another figure appeared behind him and a third slowly rose from the floor in the most unnatural fashion. It was one of the security guards, the uniform told him at a glance... And of course things would end up here, with a threat against the defenseless. This was turning into one hell of a bad day. "I'd call you a coward, but I think someone like you knows what taking a hostage means." Changing the situation changed the rules, and if an innocent's life was at stake the association didn't particularly care about the life of the one doing the threatening. This guy had to know now, that if he gave the cat even the slightest opening, he'd end him in an instant.
That's all he could really do for the moment though; wait. Trying anything more aggressive would just put the the security guard at risk. And so the hero glared at the enemy in front of him, readying himself to move the instant he saw his chance or the monster decided to show itself again. The latter would happen first it seemed.
As he watched the villain, Lynx could feel a creeping sensation run through his spine, his fur standing up on end as part of some deep rooted instinct just before a ghastly cry erupted from behind him. Acting purely on reflex, two of his three blades struck out at the shadow, but it was already fading back by the time the steel flashed out. The creature was going berserk, slashing at anything in reach while flickering in and out of sight, howling in agony. "What the hell?" He darted back in order to avoid a wild swipe from the claws and tried to keep his distance as it continued to flail about. From it's confused shouting, he could only guess that it had something to do with the noise of the fire alarm... well, that was all fine by him, but the thing was too unpredictable for him to take advantage of the sudden chaos. Trying to do so would probably only get himself torn in half for his troubles.

Aya would only roll his eyes at the hero’s words, oh how cliche, how fake sounding, how oh so unimaginative of lines to sprout out. But of course, this was a pro hero, and so it was expected from synthetic, mass produced justice like them. At the core they were just disgusting, selfish humans, just like everyone else, just like him.Just they had the nerve to act like they were somehow more correct.
“Hostage? Well, maybe for you, you see it that way. For me it is just another weapon…there are 3 unconscious humans here who will all die before I do, if you act in a foolish way, hero. I think that-”
His words were cut off when Onryo started to thrash around, and the two figures Aya was controlling moved rather effectively in synch to protect their master from the falling debris and possible attacks. He was starting to get a little more used to moving the unconscious body now, it was still an unsettling sensation and he wasn’t a fan but at least he was adapting fast.
“Wonderful.”
Aya replied shortly when he heard voices of his “accomplices” on the other floor. He wasn’t really in the best position to be giving any sort of instructions right now- he was trying to weigh the risks and his next steps for the situation right infront of him, and now given two more things to deal with.
“If you are prepared to possibly die, feel free to assist me on this floor, child. And…”
A loud piercing scream could be heard through their digital connection as the shadowy wraith gave out a pained cry.
“Wisp, I believe the security office is on the bottom floor, one floor down from where we started. Once you manage to disable the alarm, I would suggest you escape.”
With that, he took a moment of thought as he cut off the communication device and a large leap in faith, something that he may regret later but it seemed like the better of the two options he had. Instead of moving away from Sen, he ran towards him, the seized security guard moving to protect the violet haired villain from a large chunk of falling debris using their body to block it. Aya cut off the connection between himself and the now possibly dead body, he needed that hand for what he was attempting to do next anyway.
He was now a meter away from the other man and he reached out with his free hand, holding it out infront of him. He wasn’t sure it will work, or he’d just get cut in half for his troubles. There was around a 70% chance the latter would happen, but the alternative was to leave right now and he….couldn’t do that. It would be way too risky to completely disable Sen and retreat with him, so this was the risky middle ground he had decided to take.
“Sen, come here, concentrate on just me.”
Aya said loudly, hoping to attract his lover's attention enough to be able to connect, and be able to get close enough to touch him so that would be possible.

Through the madness, Sen felt the familiarity of the other man's voice, the touch to the air. And even Onryo, who would have normally found nothing but pleasure at the thought of removing Aya from the equation, wanted to reach out if only it would scatter the noise and silence the agony of it all. His molecules buzzed, sound crashed against him like ocean waves and he had to struggle through the current to find the voice and then the other man. For a moment, Onryo considered reaching out, removing the violet-haired man's head with his claws, or perhaps his teeth. The phantom reconsidered though, deciding there was nothing to be gained right at that moment from such an act.
"Violet," he practically purred, softening. Mouth splitting open and black bile spill from between the demon's teeth. "It hurts."
A heavy exhale made his shadowy frame shudder. Still monstrous, still dangerous, but subdued for at that very moment. Allowing the other's hand to reach him, contact spilling heat through him, bringing him back into the forefront of his mind and pushing Onryo's more savage conscience backwards. Even then, he was still feral, animalistic instinct driving his thoughts and his movements. It is time to go. His mind voiced where only Aya, connected to him now on a subconscious level, could hear. Normally, Sen would have rather let himself burn with the wreckage than dare retreat before he was done, but he was in neither the position to seek out the madness nor the desire to do so. So, instead, he turned his attention to the window. With the chaos subdued now though, the cat-hero would certainly take the opportunity to advance. There was no knowing how much longer he could hold this form, even with Aya's help, before the demon re-emerged even more manic and dangerous than before. He hovered over Aya almost protectively.
Still the noise of the alarm continued to weaken him, "Too much noise. Too much noise. Turn it off."
