It was approximately two in the morning in the fuck-cares-where part of Japan, and Zero was freezing his ass off and marching into a complex already secured twenty minutes ago by some nameless troopers he didn't care enough about to actually learn anything about. Hideki Labs, or whatever the hell it was actually called, a nifty little establishment in scenic freeze your ass off snow mountain land. As far as he was instructed, they were there to pick up some MacGuffin something-rather that could power things.
So, basically, he'd be called out here for seemingly no reason to hand deliver a battery to a Super-Villain. Lovely. It wasn't like the rank and file guys they had were fucking incompetent, after all. No... for dime a dozen tin cans they were honestly quite effective at what they did. Decent combat skills, some armor, and - oh yeah - a fucking gun usually helped out in that regard. They wouldn't be contesting Pro Heroes anytime soon, but standard law enforcement, security, and lower-profile Heroes might have a rough time.
He stomped up to the opened front-door, breath hissing out in angry clouds as the two men who guarded the entrance quickly stepped aside - none too eager to face his wrath. There he went, hurrying through snaky metalic corridors with the annoying red emergency lighting marking his path. One of the higher ranking mooks, signified by a set of badges and metallic stripes glued to his suit, detatched from whatever he was doing and matched Zero's pace.
"The security systems and the initial guards were dispatched by Axiom. Following standard procedure, we stormed the building and removed further resistance - cutting a path to the objective and securing the location in wait for your arrival. Sir." The man said neutrally, glancing at the still-helmeted giant beside him, perceptive of the scowl beneath the mask. "I apologize for the Inconvenience but central requested that you specifically come to retrieve the objective, and tampering by anyone else would mean punishment."
So, death. Being a 'bother' to the army for anyone lower than Zero's own importance would basically mean being dispatched as a threat. Fine. He got it, they didn't want to die. But why the fuck did HE have to do this in the first place? "Axiom?" He grumbled.
"Axiom has left the premises after their job was complete, considering the situation." The officer replied, kicking open a faulty sliding door.
That lightened his mood just a bit. He hated dealing with how fucking cherry and bright she was all the time. They were villains not fucking holiday elves. "And nobody else will interfere?"
"From this point? Interference seems highly unlikely, though not impossible. We've stationed sentries in case law enforcement caught wind of our operation here." Pausing, the solider opened a final door - revealing a room bathed in blue light - and one filled with a fuckton of soldiers. They turned, weapons half-raised, but immediately set to a salute upon seeing the pair.
"Sirs! Objective has been detained and protected as orders! Agent Zero may proceed for retrieval!" One of them stated. Finally Zero thought, irritated. This shitshow can be over. Stepping forward, he removed his helmet with one hand - all but throwing it to a random guy to hold onto. A spheroid sat, suspending in some sort of stream. Lines and symbols were carved into it, a cyan color visible from beneath the overwhelming blue shine it was producing.
"Finally. Let's get this and go home." Zero said, allowing himself to crack a smile. He began reaching for the orb, hand outstretched...
