Asahi cringed. Yeah, that did not sound good. This time, he actually spoke instead of texting, sounding every bit as bad as he described. "Yeah, you got screwed over the most there. I salute you, sir." The boy give Hiro a two-fingered salute, not in mockery or anything like that, but in respect. But alas, this interview wasn't over yet.
The street rat slid underneath the metal spray and continued with his low sweep, only for Hiro to hop back just far enough away, and then he darted right back in. He moved his left tendril to intercept the punch, but opened up the end in a plus sign to catch it. Only for it to not be very solid at all, the end now covered in metal goop. Asahi again used his right tendril to strike, aiming for the upper ribs. He also flung his short carbon binding cloth at Hiro's left arm. If that wrapped around around it, he'd bash the metal encrusted left tendril with the arm, which would likely send Asahi up a bit to allow him to go into a spin stomp kick to the chest.
If that failed, he'd back off and swipe with each tendril, just waiting to see a more concrete opening. He could overpower him...but Hiro was clearly more experienced in a fight, even if he was more a boxer than anything.
And Asahi wasn't as good as Kyou was in a fight...he wasn't as honed in his fighting style. But he was getting better by the month.

Hiro's trick had worked. As was the natural response to having a sharp object swinging toward you, Asahi tried to stop it, and when the tendril met the blade it pierced the paper-thin shell and allowed the liquid metal within to come bursting out. The bracer was all but destroyed in the process, but the resulting spray gave the two boys a notable shower, covering Hiro's right side and Asahi's left. Alright, so maybe it didn't seem like much of a victory, but Hiro had a plan and this was a vital first step.
With his "attack" blocked, the boy knew that a counter strike had to be coming and immediately wheeled to the left. The tendril strike came as expected, but with the speed the things moved, that didn't make avoiding the blow much easier. He shifted his left arm up and braced, letting the limb scrape across the metal surface and diverting the blow so that it grazed against his side rather than going right into his ribs. He flinched as he felt it tear through the fabric of his jacket and leave a thin red line on his flank; with so much force behind it it hurt a bit more than just getting nicked by a knife swing, but he'd lived through worse.
It was at that point when Hiro's other senses picked up the next attack though. He could feel the movement of metal before his eyes even recognized the shift, but he didn't move to dodge. The cloth snagged right around his left wrist, but before his foe had a chance to pull the strand taught, Hiro sent out a pulse. The liquid metal on Asahi's left arm turned solid in an instant and locked up, more than likely stopping the motion dead. Hiro might not be able to complete physically with those damn tendrils, but he didn't technically have to either. It didn't take a whole lot of metal to immobilize a person, even a millimetre of coverage would do the job of stopping a full grown man if there weren't any joints built in, and this kid looked pretty scrawny by himself. That being said, the Tendrils weren't something he could just ignore either.
Taking advantage of the slack he had to anchor himself, Hiro charged forward to close the gap even as Asahi backed away. Another ping on his senses told him that the tendrils were moving again and the boy hopped to the side to avoid the swipe from the left limb, only to find himself right in the path of the other. Every sane instinct would have told him to back off and try to find a better opening, but Hiro had a habit of ignoring those particular voices in his mind. Rather than trying to dodge the swing from the right tendril, Hiro spun about and threw a kick toward Asahi himself while bringing both arms up together to meet the incoming blow. And then he pulsed again.
Science was never Hiro's strong point, but a bit of experimentation had shown him some of the more practical effects it could have on his quirk, even if he didn't fully grasp the mechanisms behind what he was doing. In this case, it was a matter of pressure. As the influence of his quirk passed through bracers on his shins, he liquefied them from the inside out. The change in state would usually cause the metal to expand outward, but with the outer shell still being solid it had nowhere to go, and thus built up pressure. When the effect finally reached the surface however, all of that built up force burst outward at once. While not quite a full force explosion, it did send the liquid metal bursting out with an effect that wasn't unlike a pair of over-sized paint bombs. It was a messy affair to be certain, but the kick itself however, would never reach it's intended target.
A split second after the detonation, the tendril struck. Hiro had both arms braced behind his remaining piece of armor to blunt the impact, but that was a small consolation. As the impact rang through his body, Hiro could feel his momentum shift entirely, suddenly flying backward through the air at an uncomfortable speed. One last pulse fired out on pure instinct, turning all metal within his reach back to solid, but that was all he could manage. Whether or not that had any effect on his opponent was anyone's guess at this point, but it did cover Hiro himself with a little extra armor as he abruptly found himself tumbling across the pavement. Light and dark alternated in his vision as his form practically skipped across the surface, kicking up sparks as he bounced and skid. Unfortunately there was no conveniently placed metal to soak up the impact this time and he had to simply ride it out.
By the time he finally came to rest, he was face down a good fifty feet back. The last second metal coating from the bracer blast meant that he wasn't scraped up to hell, but the bruises would be a different story. All of him was sore, and he could feel a burning sensation in his left arm and across his side. Probably one of the more severe beatings he'd gotten recent memory, and all of it would feel even worse in the morning he was sure. Honestly the idea of staying down was a rather appealing one at the moment, just curl up in the metal shell and sleep it off... That'll make it all better, right?
Nah, that's not how this worked. Not how he worked. If the boss had ever seen him sleeping on the job like this, he'd have gotten his arse kicked up and down the street.
The metal shell around Hiro wavered and started to drip, softening up enough that the boy was able to push himself back up into a sitting position. Moving hurt, and there was a nasty gash on his forearm from where the tendril cut through the bracer, but he clenched his jaw and fought through it, shakily climbing to his feet and turning to face Asahi again.

Who knew turning metal into a liquid without heat could be so damn troublesome? He had managed to scratch the other guy, but had metal all over him. And his left arm couldn't move worth a damn with all the metal on it that had solidified. Only for more metal to be sprayed on him after he had knocked Hiro away. He was almost covered! By the time the thug had solidified it, Asahi had taken a few steps forward only to find it...difficult at best to move. He started to use the uncovered tendril to actually start plucking metal off of him. Though that was costing him some clothes...not like Kyou would mind that. Using his free right arm that the wrist covered in metal and some splotches on his bicep and forearm, but not on his joints, he took out the last protein shake and drank it quick. He was swiftly running out of time for his quirk to be at full power.
Putting it back in its holster, he struggled to walk towards Hiro, who was now back up. Asahi had clearly lost his mobility...aside from using his tendrils for it, he supposed. Stabbing the free one into the ground at about twelve feet in front of him, he flung himself at the other street urchin, both appendages up and ready for a double downward slam. His hits seemed to have done a lot of damage. But there was still more to go. If it missed and hit the ground again, it would send Asahi upwards fifty feet. Stabbing the ground with the good tendril, he landed back safely. Though he still didn't get all the damn metal off during the lull...his left leg and arm was still fairly useless, but the other side was fine, and he could still at least roll his left shoulder fine.
Still...if it hit, that would likely be the end of this little game.

Drops of silver and red littered the ground at Hiro's feet, but as he blinked the last of the stars from his eyes, the vagabond couldn't help bit smirk at the sight of his opponent. So it wasn't quite the full body immobilization that he'd been aiming for, but it was abundantly clear that his gamble hadn't been completely ineffective. With the metal weighing him down and inhibiting his movements, Asahi had lost one of his primary advantages in his mobility... and yet even with that small victory Hiro could feel his own body starting to become sluggish as well. That faint feeling of weakness told him that He was nearing the limits of his quirk, and apparently this little test wasn't quite over yet. So that really only left him two options; either try to pace himself and outlast his opponent, or put everything into one last-ditch attack. Normally that would be a no brainer, but he was running low on material. All he had left was the thin coating leftover from the blast and... The passive ping of his senses found the phone from Asahi and two pocket knives, one of which he'd stolen earlier. It was something, but not quite enough to-
The smaller thief apparently wasn't going to wait any longer, and Hiro's focus snapped back into place as he started moving. That's right, the tendrils were still free, so he could throw himself around with those, but... that sort of movement was pretty easy to see coming, wasn't it? The dark-skinned boy's muscles protested as he threw himself to the side in a roll, just barely making it clear in time before Asahi slammed down and launched himself into the air. Hiro broke out of his roll and was stumbling back to his feet when something else teased at the edges of his senses; he was back over by the lamp post he'd knocked down at the beginning of the brawl. Metal. Seeing his chance, he softened the metal and took a pair of softball sized chunks, turning one completely solid while making the other into the same volatile mix of solid and liquid he'd used before.
As Asahi finally came back down, Hiro immediately broke into a sprint and charged the other boy with all the strength he could muster. His body hurt like hell with each movement, but the pounding adrenaline continued to push him forward none-the-less. Just before entering the tendrils' reach, he hurled the bomb up above his foe, following up with a pulse an instant later to set it off. One last wave of liquid metal sprayed out toward Asahi while Hiro tried to use it as a smokescreen, charging right beneath the wave and swinging the second lump of metal. This wouldn't be exploding though, instead melting away at the last moment to cover Hiro's fist in a gauntlet of steel as he threw one last powerful hook toward his opponent's ribs.

So, the other thug still had some energy left to move...the guy threw himself into a roll, just barely avoiding Asahi's attack. But the guy had stumbled back up...he must be running on fumes now...much like himself. Grabbing two chunks of metal from the fallen light pole, Hiro started his final push...at least, Asahi hoped so. The thief boi pointed his tendrils at the guy, ready to stab him. Just before the guy entered fifteen feet of him, he threw one of the balls. It was a distraction. And Asahi focused on Hiro alone. Until he got a small shower of metal, making him look up. None-the-less, he still swung out at the wave, to find nothing there and see that the other guy was actually below him. And swinging right at his ribs. Swinging the other tendril, Asashi aimed to slam the guy in the hip. Except the punch to the ribs was faster, and actually lifted him up as he gasped for air, his tendrils dissipating completely before they even touched Hiro.
But he wasn't done! A single tendril re-materialized from his lower back, at its full length of fifteen feet. And slammed it down at his best guess as he dropped to both knees, clutching his ribs. He dropped fully as his tendril disappeared again. And this time for at least a day. Moving to his side, he moved to the fetal position as he coughed and sputtered. He laid there for a few minutes, unmoving. Then he reached for his cell phone, waving it above him, hoping that Hiro was still conscious. And texted a message. "I'd say you passed the combat part. My BF will want to interview you. There's three numbers in there, one of which is mine, the other two being my BF and our friend. AK will be sending a message to ask when would be a good time for an interview." He dropped his arm and just rested for a few more minutes. Hoping that the ruckus didn't draw any attention...

Finally Hiro felt one of his blows actually connect with his opponent, and it was a good one. His fist hit home right at the base of the ribs and caught the diaphragm as he followed through and knocked the kid up into the air. Out of his periphery he could see the tendrils that had been swinging in toward him retracting into Asahi's back, which seemed to suggest that either they reacted to heavy impacts, or more likely that the smaller thief was just as out of steam as he was. Either way he seemed to be in the clear now... or at least that was what it looked like. As Hiro finished his followthrough and started to pull his fist back, he saw one of the appendages suddenly burst back out and start to swing down toward him. Hiro immediately moved to dodge, but as he shifted his weight he was assaulted by a sudden wave of dizziness and felt his balance give out completely.
Of course, that was just his luck. Just when it felt like he'd come out on top, the tables turned. As he was stumbled back he was practically left wide open for the counter strike, and he doubted he'd be getting up again after another hit from those things.... except the hit never came. As the blind swipe came down, the muscled tendril passed scant inches from Hiro's face before slamming down at his feet. The vibrations from the impact finished the job that his stumble started, and the next thing the boy knew he was on his ass, staring blankly ahead from the shock of the near miss.
By the time he shook it off his adrenaline was already starting to die down, and he was finding it rather difficult to catch his breath, taking ragged gasps in and out. That just proved how close he was to running on empty. He'd been pushing right up to the limits of his quirk and was actually pretty glad that the test seemed to be over now. Sure, he probably could have kept going for a little bit longer, but damn would he have regretted it afterward. Even now he could feel a mild headache coming on to accompany the general dizziness and his body felt heavy... not to mention all of the bruising from being smacked across the lot and back. Needless to say, it was probably for the best that he just take it easy for a bit while Asahi finished hacking up a lung.
When the phone in his pocket finally buzzed a few minutes later, Hiro's breathing was almost back to normal. Letting out a silent groan of discomfort, he reached for the device and wiped away of bit of metal that still clung to it before scanning over the message. Guess he made it past the first round of this silly little interview, and next would be... what, this kid's boyfriend? A single amused snort was about the only noticeable reaction he gave before tapping in his own message. "The same BF that's into the fan service? Well that sounds like an evening. Are we talking business casual or formal wear? Is now a bad time to talk benefits?" He smirked as he sent the text and then followed it up with something a bit more serious. "You're a nice kid and that was a damn fun brawl, but I'm still not dead set on joining this little outfit of yours yet. That being said, if you've got work I'm sure we can come to an arrangement. If you have actually been keeping tabs on me, then you probably know a bit about my living situation, a bit strapped for cash as it is."

Asahi snorted in laughter. Or a chuckle. "Just come as yourself. Mostly clean clothes is preferred, but if that's not manageable, I can sneak you into the PE showers." He was about to mention possible benefits when the more serious text came. Nodding a bit, he did continue. "I don't have much of a living situation. Under park benches, empty warehouses, that kind of thing...when I don't feel like bumming off of my BF. He has offered me a dorm at the school. And he'll do the same for you, though that would mean having to attend classes and making sure you make a passing grade. So you do get a high school education as well, for basically free. Otherwise, there's also the pooling of resources, we help our own first before moving to others. You would be included if you join, though it may not be much, it could mean the difference between living in squalor and missing meals or having a full belly at night most nights and a small safety net. At the least, I think we'd want to keep you on a contact list...a bit of back-up never hurts either and we'll have jobs for you even if you don't join. You won't be alone if you get into too much trouble. We'll have your back.
But in the end, we do acknowledge that you have to make the decision to join us or not if or when the invitation comes. We can't force you. I'm sure he'll contact you in a few days assuming something major doesn't happen that distracts him." Hopefully that would calm any real fears down. Or at the least answers some questions about benefits. Going to school was a bit of a pain, but it was something to fall back on and maybe at least get some kind of legit employment elsewhere should things not turn out ok.
