Kosei is (much to his dismay) the type of person everyone sees coming. Intimidatingly tall, grumpy-looking, and vibrantly red as war in the drab grey of the city backdrop. His expression varies between caustically indifferent or burning with unresolved anger-issues. However, his intimidating "no-bullshit" personality and resting bitch-face makes for a surprisingly effective teaching tool against super-powered punkasses. He is the most unflamboyant super hero in the history of hero-dom, if you're looking for flashy spandex and neon beams, well he doesn't have any of that. He has a pretty cool jacket tho. And an old oni mask which serves as a air filter/gas mask, [mask], which also monitors his energy intake.
PERSONALITY
LIKES teaisolation intense fights his kid (sometimes) | DISLIKES mediabrats loud noise almost everything |
RUMOR (tis true): | was a villain, then had a kid and now hes a glorified baby-sitter to super-powered brats |
Kosei had spent a large portion of his life just figuring himself out and at one time he had been an individual of pure ambition and passionate hatred, decimating competition just because he could. Now? Well now, let's just say he's lost a lot of his spark. For a thirty-year-old man, he acts more like an eighty-year-old geezer that enjoys complaining more than crushing thou. Granted, that's what having a kid does to you. He's got a face that says a thousand words, the kind of arsenal of expressions that range from "sit down and shut up" to "no, stupid, that's not the right answer." His encouragement comes rarely, but his admiration is nothing to take lightly. Anyone that's capable of impressing him, especially his students, are those that he will commend entirely (until they disappoint him).
That said, ironically, he has found himself in the curious position of being what many call a "papa bear" and his protectiveness for his student, and those he's responsible for, is boundless. He covers up a lot of his emotions with blanketed indifference, making it hard for anyone to get a fix on him, but beneath that indifference lives a rage that keeps on burning and its dangerous if it's let out of its cage. He is lazy, emotionally-constipated, with a hair pin trigger and a love for dark humor. He also enjoys riddles and things that make him think, anyone that can outwit him or get a chuckle out of him should be awarded.

BACKGROUND HISTORY
PLACE OF BIRTH/HOMETOWN: | osaka |
PARENTS: | they're dead or old or something |
SIBLINGS: | none |
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: | Kana AKA code name: baby mama |
OTHER: | Miu (6 yr old daughter) |
In the beginning, he had felt power and longed for more. Beneath his skin, there was ambition in his veins and that ambition led to disregard for his own humanity. Some said he was just a kid that fell in with the wrong crowd, but he knew he was born apart of that crowd long before then. His own spirit, his own desire for power, was indomitable and everything else was swallowed up. His father had been a hero, the flashy kind- the ones that reigned over every television screen and broadcasted on every network spouting lofty, arrogant crap about how villainy never won and how heroes never failed. Then the bastard had to go and die on tv, it was dreadful for his popularity stats. Kosei hadn't remembered feeling sad about the ordeal, not then at least, it was part of the job, but it was the part that people forgot beneath the cheesy grins and bright, cheeky costumes. It was all about the ratings until you go and die. Truthfully, his symbolic fall into the "wrong crowd" was a long time coming and a long time ignored by his family. Villainy was just a color that suited him.
His reputation climbed fast, but eventually the ambition ebbed away beneath a sheet of ice. The crown felt nice, for a time, but the truth became apparent to him that he was not suited for it. Inevitable, perhaps, for the life of crime was a demanding one and he soon found that the agony it ensued upon unsuspecting innocents was not what he desired, he didn't have the stomach for it. It was the dream of a dumb kid, to climb to the top, only he found that no matter how far he climbed, he was just another thug dying for the appetites of bigger, badder villains. But it wasn't the pointlessness or the ethics that got to him, but a kid. His kid, which had been... alarming and confusing at first. But that's what happens when you're young and stupid. For him? He ended up with some woman he barely knew and ended up with a baby girl named Miu, and then a much lighter wallet. By that point, what was the point? He couldn't exactly rob liquor stores or battle heroes on his way to pre-school. It had brought about a startling revelation, that he had spent years of his life making nothing but mistakes, but Miu was not one of them.
His new start had come with a lot of headaches and far more trouble than he expected. He was a terrible hero with even worse bedside manners, but the lifestyle, strangely, suited him and he was damn good at it. It sated a hunger he'd been starving over for most of his young life. He poured himself into the hero-work, not necessarily for some overarching belief in justice or goodness, but mostly because it gave him a chance to legally work through much needed anger issues. He had ended up in the academy by pure chance, or misfortune, tangled with the memory of his dead father, but also with a platter-full of controversy considering his past, but it had been judged that he had made up for (even if he made one terrible hero) on the basis that he keep his reputation squeaky clean.

THE ARMORY
fur-lined jacket, a tacky bracelet his kid made him, a chain necklace, a cell phone & one bad attitude.
QUIRK & SKILLS
BACKLASH
TYPE: Emitter
RANK/LEVEL: A-
SUMMARY:
Backlash is a quirk that is capable of redirecting or absorbing kinetic energy, which is the energy of motion or physical movement. Upon impact, the energy is absorbed and can then either be used in healing or expelled through concussive force, energy spikes, or fed into the kinetic energy of moving objects. In example the speed and weight of car determines the kinetic energy, upon impact with a solid object that energy is then expelled as the car is forced to stop. The key to Backlash is that energy (beyond a certain limitation of what he can absorb) must go somewhere thus it is repelled and sent back at the opposing force. The more an object weighs and the faster it is moving, the more kinetic energy it has.
This ability is triggered by reactive kinetic energy upon impact, such as the impact of punches, bullets, and concussive forces. For this reason, Kosei makes a great force to be reckoned with in a purely combative/physical fight, making a lot of hand to hand or artillery useless against him. It's also the reason he is quicker to spur a physical altercation at close distance rather than one where an alternative ability can be used to counteract his abilities. His own energy creates a field around him, absorbing the impact of various strikes and in turn either absorbing that energy into him or expelling it and bouncing back at the assailant. This energy can also be redirected in waves of combustive red energy that he can send outwards. The size of his combatant has a lot to do with it, the larger the foe the more energy his body can absorb and redirect.
His power relies upon "stamina", making it necessary that he be capable of taking copious levels of energy without burning out. At the max limit, he could withstand the concussive power of 700,000 Joules, which means he could withstand the collected energy of a 6,000 lb. vehicle (a cargo van), and then at that point, his body would be at the brink of overload. As of right now the extension of his quirk's stamina (or time in which his body can withstand extended absorption up to that point) is 11 posts though that diminishes or rises depending on the level of power his opponent possesses or even how often his attacks result in a dodge aka wasted energy. With each post, his strength and dexterity rises but only to that limited point. And then when his body does tire out, it must restart the cycle (takes a post to restart). At this point he is exceedingly vulnerable and holds no more power than an average person.

WEAKNESSES/LIMITATIONS:
- The quirk requires that he be conscious of an attack, so he is not a great defense against stealth attacks.
- It also weighs entirely on the hope that his opponent's abilities be physical or result in some kind of kinetic energy.
- Kosei does better against larger foes, being able to store up equal amounts of energy thrown at him, but if the opponent is not dishing out as much as he's giving and they're too quick for him to land a hit, he is likely to exhaust more energy than he gains and can wear himself out.
- There is also the threat of overload, which is essentially when he stores too much energy for his body or quirk to handle and it backfires on him. Say he must hold the kinetic force of a speeding semi-truck he cannot fully absorb all this energy and must channel it outwards rather than hold it. Otherwise the energy could kill him. He is like a walking battery and without enough energy to work with, he becomes very lethargic and sick.
- His quirk depends a lot on the state of his emotions on how effective it will prove to be. If his focus is lost and clouded by anger, he is less likely to be able to appropriately direct his backfires, and could potentially harm someone other than his opponent.
- His quirk is only useful when it comes to defensive capabilities with physical/kinetic energy. This does not make him immune to any other kind of attack, so he must be able to force his opponents into physical attacks before they can rely on other means.
HAND-TO-HAND COMBAT
RANK/LEVEL: B+
SUMMARY:
Due to the physical nature of his quirk, Kosei is adept in hand-to-hand combat and is primarily focused on close ranged fighting styles. He has had notable fighting experience and continues to train his body into dishing out as much as he can take. He tends to fight a little on the "street thug" side, focusing more on boxing and cage fighting techniques, but that comes with a lot of advantages being that he has the wit and the looser ethics to back it up.
ENHANCED STAMINA
RANK/LEVEL: B-
SUMMARY:
He has trained his body to be able to keep up with the fight itself, knowing that physically (without his quirk), he could not keep up with a lot of the super strength freaks out there. So being able to keep in the fight and keep going, also boosting the energy he is able to store, is a big deal for him. Tho most of his better qualities are lost the second he loses his temper.
