RUMOR/SECRET: | "Masamune is a soulless bitch! You know she's not against exterminating villains OR heroes if they get in her way?" |
The first thing to note from Satine Blackwood is her incredible poker face. It's too hard to see what she's thinking, and because of that, hardly ever shows a smile or a frown. To her, any amount of reaction is an exploitable weakness, and for heroes who are trying to punish her for vigilante justice, or villains who are attempting to hit her where she's weakest, it means that weakness is not an option. To her, a stone face is all that is needed; and if her sister were a hostage, she would sooner let her be fodder than to show the villain any kind of small victory, even if she would be devastated after the fact.
This doesn't mean Satine is heartless. She just knows how to hide it. With enough prodding, someone can dive into her inner psyche. And hell, if they did, she might actually lose her poker face. She's already lost enough already though, so it's unlikely. Being numb has its perks, and for Satine, loss is just another day of the week.
Probably some of her biggest pet peeves are when she's not able to hunt her bounties, and fails at trying. It means she misses rent, and missing rent puts her a step towards eviction. Perhaps the biggest thing she hates is the heroic society life has become. Heroes, self-righteous and strong, know nothing of the struggling few with Quirks not meant for heroism. At least big time heroism. That, and how up their own asses they all are. Perhaps that makes her an anarchist? A little, yes, but she knows anarchy ends in flames. Villains have it easy, and she envies how free they are. To not be constrained by society's giant stick up its own ass.
If things would have gone better for her, perhaps she would have been a villain, but one bad day set her on the path forward.
An interesting thing about Satine is her love of mysteries and games in her hunts. She likes a villain who plays with her when she chases them, and nothing thrills her more than the chase of ferocious tiger and sniveling mouse. She's a full-time hit-man in that regard, and will get her mark. The few times she has failed, she has marked those few on her shit-list. But considering she's number five vigilante? Yeah. They don't get away. Even if she has to amputate a leg to keep them present.
Her only goal is to make the heroes of today bow down to their own flaws by exploiting them for her own benefits. And as long as it pays rent, she'll constantly do this to their fragile system. This puts her on the edge of villainy.

BACKGROUND HISTORY
PLACE OF BIRTH/HOMETOWN: | Cannes, France |
PARENTS: | Mercedes Blackwood (Mother, Deceased) Edmond Blackwood (Father, Deceased) |
SIBLINGS: | Priscilla Hojo (Sister, Alive) Florence Blackwood (Sister, Alive) |
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: | Katsuo Sanada (Husband, Incarcerated) |
OTHER: | Lucifer (Stray Black Cat) |
Despite what you might think, with her husband being in jail, and her parents being dead, they weren't exactly tragics deaths. Her mother passed away peacefully in the night when Satine was twelve, and her father took care of them, but by the time Satine was twenty, Edmond was already around seventy, and he went peacefully too. Her husband was a death caused by a villain, yes, but she wasn't devastated, because she had intended to divorce him already. If anything, when his untimely demise came, she felt more relieved than anything.
But we're ahead of the story a bit. Let's rewind a little.
The youngest daughter of three, Satine Blackwood was an unusual child. Her sisters preferred playing make-up, and pretend. Her sisters would become true icons at their school, working in general studies over heroism. With their brains, they were the top of the food chain, and in high school, they did some classic popular school-ruling and flaunting their smarts over the whole school like they owned the place. Priscilla and Florence were truly a terrible duo of twins, and some even likened them to devils.
Satine always thought this was a sweet thought. The Blackwoods were founded in drama, and became demons of the wood. Once mom died, her sisters only became worse. Satine, however, would become a little reclusive. Her mother wasn't a demon, and her father couldn't be there for everyone at once. Satine wasn't like Priscilla and Florence, and not the apple of her father's eye. Wanting to join heroic courses, she begged her father to let her into U.A. Edmond, the sweet old father, would allow it, but if she dropped out, she would have to figure out where to go from there.
A year later, she couldn't take the pressure. She burnt out. Her sisters, still the Demons of the Blackwood, would ridicule her to no end for being a failure of a Blackwood, and a failure of a sister. They bullied her into the ground, and laughed in her face, making her cry. But something in Satine snapped that day. She would show them why people don't mess with her.
At the age of sixteen, Satine began her vigilante justice, and started on her sisters. Priscilla, she would immediately get back at by showing her 'boyfriend of the time' her texts to two other guys. This led to one of the most satisfying moments ot justice play out before her, watching Priscilla being depressed. Florence was harder, because she didn't want to do lasting damage to her college career. She merely switched out her diet bars with the exact opposite; candy bars to make her fatter.
It was subtle, but after a few weeks, she gained enough weight for Satine to hear the screams of anger at the diet bars she ate. Justice was served, and her vindictive nature only started to blossom.
From then on, she began to use her own smarts and wits on the streets. It was a hard climb, and she had to do sleuthing. She had to use her Quirk in different ways. She had to make decisions she wasn't proud of. When dad died, she dove headfirst into her work. She did the hard work, earned money on the side as a waitress, turned into a bounty hunter vigilante, and became something more than her sisters ever would. She climbed to the top of the leader board not by her wits and smarts, but by the effort she put into her craft. And as #5, she would stay.
So. Where does our boy, Katsuo Sanada, play into this picture? Well... the best way to put this was that Satine ended up in a private engagement with Katsuo, not telling a soul about him. And, while she has the real story, she doesn't intend to reveal what his fate was. Only that his bounty paid her enough for rent for a month.
It's exactly what you think. And the reason her back is riddled in enough scars to make someone double-take.

THE ARMORY
Satine's Knife - A singular knife. The only one of it's kind, made from a black metal with a dark brown grip, and an inscription in the side of the blade.
Satine's Cell Phone - For calling. Probably.
Satine's Jacket - A fire-resistant jacket. Helps with sick burns, physical or verbal.
Satine's Boots - Unlike her sisters, a good, bitch-resistant boot is all she needs for footwear. The heels sting like hell if they stab into you.

QUIRK & SKILLS
Lady Luck
TYPE: Emitter
RANK/LEVEL: A
SUMMARY:
A fickle bitch that Satine has become intimate with; Lady Luck embodies Satine's world. For every good, there is a bad, and that is the mindset that Satine has been forced to embody. The whims of fate are constantly weighed upon her.
Luck is unpredictable and uncontrollable, something Satine has had to make peace with. But, when Lady Luck is channeled, the scales for luck are tipped into her favor. It's a metaphysical Quirk, that makes Satine absurdly lucky, while seeming to sap away other's luck in the process. Bullets avoid her, and it almost seems like unlikely events come out of nowhere to keep her safe, for instance, like a car driving out of nowhere to take a megaton punch for her. And that's just in combat.
In normal situations, Lady Luck can help out too. For instance, sometimes when channeled, Satine can sometimes find doors unlocked, or keys into a car's ignition for no earthly reason. Maybe a window is left unlocked, in some cases, twisting for a random locker combination could prove fruitful, or say, aiming at an impossible distance with a knife thrown might bode results. That being said, it can't be used to harm other people, but she can effectively remove herself from harm too. Maybe that knife hits a wire up above that contains something like a cinder block that crushes another's leg.
WEAKNESSES/LIMITATIONS:
On paper, this Quirk sounds impossibly good, so then why does Satine hate it? Because, Lady Luck is a give-and-take Quirk. For all the luck Satine expends, it demands equal compensation in terms of bad luck. This is the Achilles Heel of Lady Luck. At some point, compensation is required, and thus, all luck taken is like taking a loan out of a bank; it is paid back, and the debt accumulates.
You might be thinking, how bad can it get? Say, Satine wishes to dodge a hailstorm of bullets to get to her prey. For every bullet that was supposed to hit her, the bad luck debt builds. Sometimes, it's tiny things. Maybe her keys to her apartment break for one bullet. Maybe for all of the bullets, as she walks home, she gets into a horrible car accident. Perhaps she breaks her leg on the climb up the stairs because the railing becomes loose. For every natural 20 she forces on a metaphysical d20, she is forced to get a natural 1 to supplement her cheating luck.
Maybe she's pursued by the cops. By using all of her luck now, she could escape them in theory. But then, she might go home and see her apartment is on fire, due to how her Quirk works.
The point of the Quirk is to use it in quick bursts, and while she has a finite supply of luck, by using too much of it, she could essentially see death in her future. And that fear inspires more fear in her than anything else. In the end, she knows Lady Luck will claim her dues. The only question is; when?

KNIFE SPECIALIST
RANK/LEVEL: A
SUMMARY:
Small blades are the weapon of choice for Satine, and while anyone can throw around their weight twice over with a buster sword and hit a wide area for a little, Satine attempts to use every movement of her body to augment her capability to hit a single point. This is in close quarters, as well as throwing, as making one strike can end a battle, and impair her bounty.
DEAD EYE
RANK/LEVEL: B+
SUMMARY:
One of the best take-aways for Satine is how accurate she is. Deadly so, and she makes a note of it. She's no Robin Hood, and there's no chance she'll make a shot that splits an arrow in half in a bulls-eye. But, on a dart board, she's able to consistently hit the inner-circle, and occasionally will she hit the outer one.
