Aoi's exact appearance can change quite a bit due to the slight snag of being a kid with shape shifting powers. The most common look, though, is a short brunette girl with a slight build and a big smile. At school this is what people will see, complete with her trademark star shaped hair ornament holding her side ponytail in place. Another common form is her 'mom' mode, a few inches taller with long brunette hair tied off in a low side ponytail.
Aoi's style of clothing outside of school is wide and varied, just as the forms she takes are. Hence her wardrobe is kind of eclectic in nature - everything from fairly conservative skirt/blouse combos to jean shorts and tank tops. Typically she prefers skirts to shorts, though she has been known to wear jeans on occasion. In default form she's fairly girly in mode of dress, for what it's worth.
PERSONALITY
LIKES KaraokeBarley flavored tea/soda Helping people. A good joke | DISLIKES Long lines/waitsOverly sweet drinks/treats. Nagging. Being alone/isolated. |
RUMOR/SECRET: | "Did you hear? That woman living in her home isn't actually her mom.." |
Aoi is quite the laid back sort, never really seeming to take anything overly seriously. When others might be stressed Aoi simply plays it off as nothing to worry about. She is by nature a fairly happy person, prone to a hearty laugh or making jokes to add levity to whatever situation she's in. Owing to adopting assymetrical solutions to problems both hero like and otherwise, she's not afraid to take risks and put herself out on a limb. Unless someone gives her a reason to believe otherwise she believes that people are good by nature and tends to trust easily. Fairly friendly around others and quite protective of friends, it can be hard for some people to take her seriously.
Having the Quirk she has, she's prone to playing jokes and using her abilities to get things that she wants. There's a bit of a moral involved of course; she refuses to do anything that hurts other people. Just because she's having a good time doesn't mean it should could at someone else's expense. Happiness isn't to be taken for granted, and she can't stand people who use their abilities in ways that make people miserable. That in mind, she sees it as her responsibility to brighten the world for people whenever she can. It just so happens that she has a Quirk which allows her to take whatever form is necessary to do just that sort of thing.
Behind her cheery exterior she does have some lingering issues, however. Most notably she can severely sell herself short when things are going bad. She's always been able to force through a brave face, but she consistently wonders if she's really good enough. After all her father left before she was old enough to remember what he looked like. Her powers aren't really that useful for Hero action like some of her classmates. She doesn't really know who she is despite being able to take the form and voice of nearly anyone. So she seeks out purpose by filling roles for others, supporting or helping them even while she isn't sure what she wants to do for herself. Maybe she can't fight powerful villains, but she can make people smile!
BACKGROUND HISTORY
PLACE OF BIRTH/HOMETOWN: | Tokyo |
PARENTS: | Haruko Sakurauchi (mother, presumed deceased), father unknown |
SIBLINGS: | None |
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: | None |
OTHER: | Reiko Yazawa (neighbor, surrogate little sister), Umi Sakurauchi (cousin, lives in the house with Aoi). |
The Sakurauchi family are no pushovers when it comes to social standing. Simply stating that they were able to afford a house on the outskirts of Tokyo is enough to speak to that. Aoi's mother compensated for her own lack of a useful combat Quirk by using her own inheritance to help found a company which makes supplies for Pro Heroes. Before that the family wealth derived from a variety of businesses and investments. Regardless of the source, Aoi was never wanting for money growing up in one of the most populous cities in the world.
At the age of eight, Aoi's own Quirk began to manifest in a completely mundane manner. Just after Umi, a cousin by way of Aoi's aunt from Hokkaido, moved in the two children were nearly inseparable at home; not so much outside the house. Problem was that Umi was a few years older and didn't always appreciate having a younger kid tagging along. Aoi flipped through some of Umi's teen magazines and, focusing on daydreams of being older and included in more outings. Suddenly Umi walked back into the room and freaked out at finding a teenager who resembled a magazine model instead of her elementary school age cousin. After calming Umi down, Aoi went on to experiment with the newfound power by impersonating various people they met or saw on television.
Just as Aoi was getting into middle school, though, tragedy struck - her mom disappeared while on a business trip for a meeting with a Pro Hero in Osaka. No one would ever see her again despite the best efforts of heroes, relatives and law enforcement. For months Aoi tried to isolate herself, afraid that she'd disappear too if she wasn't super careful about how she did things. With a family inheritance and her cousin working for the company, there wasn't anything financial to worry about. Yet the process of adjusting to life without a mother was difficult for Aoi, and even Umi worried the youngster might not recover.
It was a chance encounter with the younger girl living next door that helped Aoi begin that recovery. Due to unfortunate circumstances the girl was living basically alone in an apartment in the neighboring building. Her father was always busy and/or out of town, and the girl's grandparents weren't able to check in every day. Aoi decided to shift into a maternal form and look after the girl when she could, and soon the two bonded as if they were family. To this day Aoi still goes to check on her, help make dinner and help with homework. Even though the two are only a year or so apart in age, Aoi enjoys playing such a supporting role for someone else in need.
Having discovered a bit of purpose, Aoi eventually started looking after herself a little better. Nobody's super sure if the Aoi everyone sees today is the same form of Aoi that grew up in that house. But what's clear is that she's happier, more driven and generally healthier mentally. She came to realize her Quirk wasn't going to get her super high on any Pro Hero organization's recruitment list, so Aoi began to find creative ways to use it to help people on her own. That and help herself of course, but never in a way that hurt others. Life could hurt people enough on its own without some powered person adding to that misery.
There was something nagging at the back of her mind though - she had to prove her Qurk wasn't totally useless. Those who knew about hers sometimes made fun of how lame it was compared to, say, the boy who could shoot out fire or the girl who could weaponize sound. So Aoi studied hard, practiced with her Quirk and trained in martial arts to compensate for the lack of combat applications for that Quirk. Somehow, some way, she passed the exam to get into U.A. and has been sort of the odd duck of her classes both years she's been there. She's still not able to answer the question of what she wants to do when she grows up.. but she does kind of want to go into entertainment. It'd allow her to make people's lives happier, bring a smile to their face when their down and give kids with lesser Quirks hope that they can do something really neat too.
THE ARMORY
* Sakurauchi Hero Supply Co. Adaptation Suit - A super fancy way of saying this is Aoi's battle suit, per se. There's nothing all that remarkable about it, other than it's made of a stretchy fabric which can expand with different sized forms Aoi takes. It is made in some super pretty colors though - a soft powder blue trim with an aquamarine base color.
* Personal cell phone - What it says on the tin. Just in case she needs to record footage for evidence or something, or make sure the movie she wants to see is playing.
QUIRK & SKILLS
Mirror Mirror
TYPE: Transformation
RANK/LEVEL: D
SUMMARY:
This Quirk allows Aoi to change her physical form into that of another person nearly perfectly. Everything from hair color and length to eye color is possible through this power. As she's practiced with it she's also learned that she can emulate the voice of the person she's taking on the form of, though this requires more mental focus than just changing shape. The transformation makes her effectively a dead ringer and sounder for another person.
WEAKNESSES/LIMITATIONS: Mirror Mirror has no real combat application, so Aoi gains no battle prowess from being able to shape shift. She is just as vulnerable to damage as someone who has absolutely no Quirk at all. In addition she has yet to be able to alter any other matter with the transformation, so clothes aren't changing shape with her body. This means that she has to plan out what form she's taking and ensure she has appropriately sized clothing. Assuming a larger more muscular form doesn't give her further physical strength either, so her changes are totally cosmetic.

Grappler
RANK/LEVEL: C-
SUMMARY: This is Aoi's hand to hand fighting skill, though it's less of the sort of martial arts one typically thinks of. Instead of karate or taekwondo, Aoi learned a combination of aikido and.. wrestling. She's decently skilled with using an opponent's momentum against them, since she doesn't really have the physical strength for direct strikes to be helpful. Her wrestling training is part olympic style and part.. well, learned from watching ridiculous staged 'combat' on TV on a weekly basis. Of course her more useful fighting skill comes from aikido and actual wrestling, but she does try to break out the occasional figure four leg lock and such every now and then.
