PERSONALITY
LIKES PranksMeat Socializing Making People Laugh Maid Outfits Spicy Foods | DISLIKES Mean PeopleThe Cold The Heat Academic Lessons Plain Rice Large Crowds |
RUMOR/SECRET: | Emiko either slept her bribed her way into the hero course from general studies. |
Being born and raised in possibly the most remote location on the planet her personality is a bit more free and careless than most people her age. Having never gone to an actual school or had much of a strict schedule she often has trouble sitting through classes all day and often finds herself bored rather quickly while sitting in most classes. When she isn’t forced to be strapped to a desk she is very erratic and spends very little time simply not doing things. Even if she isn’t actually doing anything standing still is not a skill that she is particularly gifted in. Some might call this some form of ADD or ADHD though whether that is the case isn’t something anyone knows, even herself.
At heart Emiko is a trickster at heart. Pranks and practical jokes are her bread and butter. While often times her jokes can get close to going to far though she never tries to take things towards actually harming people. Often times her antics are mostly for her own amusement though if they have the side effect of being entertaining to others then that is just a bonus. Emiko almost always finds a way to entertain herself no matter what. Whether it be with the people or objects around her or by simply playing games in her own mind whenever she’s unfortunately stuck in classes or some other event where she can’t have fun any other way.
Despite the fact that she will vehemently deny it if ever brought up Emiko still has a slight fear of her quirk and particularly the lack of sensory input that she experiences while not in her humanoid form. While she is able to bear this while voluntarily going into this slime form if she finds herself accidentally put into this form she often will have a mild panic attack. This is more or less her only major fear.
Due to the resistances that her quirk allows her Emiko has a very rekless sense of self preservation, often taking courses of actions that would almost inevitably leave most people with some form of major injury. One particularly common example being jumping down from whatever floor she is on in a building to the ground level rather than taking the elevator or stairs. While she has almost no fighting capabilities of her own Emiko has no problem fighting people she knows are much stronger than her. Often times this also combines with her pranking ways.
While Emiko does often act with reckless abandon her three main weaknesses do cause her to act with some cation. Ice and electricity cause her to be wary as both can incapacitate her rather quickly. While fire will not incapacitate her it is possibly the one that she prefers to avoid due to the permanent damage it causes by boiling off her biomass. The pain of this process though is what makes it her least favorite way to be attacked. This couldn’t exactly be considered a concrete fear though when presented with any of these weaknesses Emiko will show an excess amount of caution.
Due to the fact that her body’s unique physiology Emiko is not a fan of weather on either extreme. As anything below zero degrees will start to freeze her body Emiko invests in heated clothing to keep her from quite literally turning into an icicle in cold weather. Hot weather similarly does not agree with her as high temperatures will start to cause her to loose solidity in her human form and eventually force her to revert to her slime form. Climate controlled buildings are probably one of Emiko’s favorite things.
Emiko enjoys japanese animation and manga. In antartica she often only had the stuff her mother had to read or watch but now that she lives in Japan it has become somewhat of an obsession for her. Spending her allowance on different merchandise from some of her favorite series. Including posters, wall scrolls, figures, body pillows, ect. She’s very unashamed of her passion as well, not letting other people’s perception of her cause any kind of shame.
Somewhere along the way Emiko picked up an interesting speech pattern. Where it originated from not even Emiko is quite sure of though she is particularly fond of puns, innuendos, euphemisms and double entendres. Lewd jokes of any kind bring a smile to her face and she takes every opportunity to make things sound as dirty as possible. If asked to get her mind out of the gutter Emiko almost always responds with “my mind is the gutter”

The story of Emiko’s birth starts almost twenty years before she was even conceived. A project by the name of Deep Freeze was incepted by the UN as a test for the possibility of a moon based colony. The basis of the idea was simple. A small colony would be created in antarctica with a population of between fifty and one hundred volunteers. The primary purpose of the test was more about understanding the dynamics of a small isolated population living in encloses habitats. At the same time it would also serve as a research station and be primarily staffed with scientists conducting research. The test itself was designed to last nearly fifteen years before any of the participants would be allowed to return barring any significant physical or mental issues. This test colony, while mostly scientific, would including a full crew including doctors, cooks, law enforcement, and other essential personnel. Due to the long extent of this experiment all participants were required to have no immediate family and no major ties to keep them in normal society.
Eventually project Deep Freeze began. A total of seventy three volunteers were set out to antarctica along with a modular habitat designed to be where they would all live for the next fifteen years. As one would expect the people there did as people do and soon some began to get into relationships with others. Two such people were Connor McTaggart and Momiji Sasaki. The two began dating rather quickly into the experiment. It was just over a year later when Momiji became pregnant. A wedding was held and the couple married shortly there after. Nine months later a young girl named Emiko McTaggart was born.
The facilities of the Deep Freeze had been designed with children in mind, as evidently whoever had been designing the project hadn’t been dumb enough to think that people would simply decide to not have sex. While Emiko was the first child born from during this project she was most certainly not the only one. As no teachers had been staffed at the habitat instead her education came in the form of digital lessons on a computer in the small area that counted as the “house” that her and her family lived in. Things were somewhat lonely for her at first being the oldest child on the entire continent. Though after her birth several other children came and they quickly all became friends.
From time to time the Deep Freeze project would receive packages from the outside world, simulating supplies being sent from earth. While these were primarily basic necessities they would also be allowed to request certain items as well as digital entertainment. It was from these entertainment packages that Emiko found her obsession with humor and practical jokes. Everything from comedy movies and shows to archives of comics with witty humor in them. Primarily she prefered humor with some thought behind it, or proper slapstick style of comedy. This is what began to feul her desire for mischief.
Whenever her and the other kids would play heroes and villains Emiko never really cared which side she was on but no matter what she almost always ended up doing something to trick the other side in some way. Sometimes pretending to be a defector switching sides mid battle, other times actually being a traitor to the side she was on. Her pranks were mostly harmless though from time to time she did get into trouble for accidentally causing something to be broken or simply creating a dangerous situation.
Emiko’s relationship was fairly stronger with her father than her mother. While her mother was a scientist and spent the working hours of the day in the laboratories her father was one of the four appointed police officers that enforced the habitat’s laws. As crime was nearly nonexistent her father often had very little to do most days and would spend his time with Emiko playing games or watching movies. While she did cherish the time she spent with her mother she was undoubtedly more connected with her father.
Emiko’s quirk developing was something that changed her life entirely. For most children it’s a time of excitement and wonder as they discover their newfound ability and learn to control them. For Emiko however it was quite different. Her quirk manifested quite literally overnight. When she had gone to bed the night before there was no indication of what would await her the next morning. Her dreams were odd that night. Nightmares to be more specific. The details were fuzzy but the one thing she could vividly remember was melting. She was melting into a puddle of blue ooze, crying out for help from her father. But soon her mouth had melted and she couldn’t make a sound anymore. Next her ears and eyes went and the only thing left was her sense of touch.
The shock and fear from the nightmare was enough to wake her from her dream. Or perhaps it hadn’t. Sound was gone, and when she tried to open her eyes nothing happened. She couldn’t breathe either, in fact she couldn’t feel most of anything. Her body as she once knew it no longer made sense. She felt more as an amorphous blob. Panic began to set in and Emiko tried to wake herself from this formless nightmare but no matter how hard she tried nothing happened.
She didn’t know how long it was before something changed. Without any concrete point of reference it could have only been minutes but it most certainly felt like hours. At some point Emiko began to believe that she had died and this is what came after. That is until she felt something, the very dististict feeling of a hand on her. If she could have cried she would have. The hand maintained contact as a single finger was pressed against her and began to trace along whatever was making up her body. Immediately Emiko knew what it was and who the hand belonged to.
It had been a game her father and her would play. One would lie on the couch face down with their eyes closed while the other would use their hand to trace letters on their back one at a time. The person on the couch had to figure out what the other was saying just from the tracing of the letters. But now it was how her father was communicating with her in this terrifying situation she was stuck in. The words came one letter at a time but she was able to understand it all.
“Hey Icicle, it’s dad. I know you’re probably really scared right now but I need you to be brave for me and stay strong. What’s happening right now, it’s your quirk.”
Emiko had no way to communicate back to her father but just knowing that he was there held back the fear and panic that had been her entire reality for the past however long it had been. Her father continued to communicate to her like this, telling her more about her quirk and what it did. Apparently her uncle had the same quirk and when it had developed when him and her father were just kids their family didn’t know what to do. Knowing that it was possible that his own child might one day have the same quirk he had prepared her for this once she was old enough to communicate.
The next weeks were difficult for Emiko, stuck in this strange slime like form she wasn’t able to do much. Spending most days with her father as he continued to “write” to her, doing his best to try and help her learn to control her quirk. She could still eat in this form by simply absorbing food given to her, though disappointingly she had no way to taste any of it. The instructions given to her by her father had come from her uncle as he had been forced to learn this on his own. Mental techniques and meditation, learning to focus on moving and shaping her body. At first into simple forms and progressing from there.
It took Emiko almost four months before she finally had a breakthrough. As she often did she was practicing shaping herself, advice given to her through her father running through her mind as she did. Imagining what she had once looked like. Trying to imagining what a normal person would look like. Picturing it clearly in her head. It happened quickly, but the next thing she knew Emiko felt herself changing. Her form altering itself until, in a matter of seconds, she had taken on a human form. It wasn’t perfect as some minor details weren’t exactly there but she looked mostly like herself. Save for the fact that she was blue and transparent. But her eyes now worked and so did her ears. She was somewhat like herself again. It wasn’t perfect but it was far better than things had been. Just moments before her father had stepped out of the room to get her lunch.
Running out of her bedroom far more excited than she had ever been in her life Emiko was finally able to do what she had been so desperate to do since this had all started. Hug her father. What ensued was perhaps the longest hug in existence and lots of crying by both parties. Eventually as they both calmed down some Emiko began to make sure that everything worked the way it had before. Speaking, listening, even tasting the food her father had been preparing.
For a short while Emiko was afraid to revert back to her blob like form but found that while sleeping she would naturally revert back into it. The next morning waking up had caused her to panic and very quickly return to her translucent blue human form. It was a relief to know she could do it almost entirely on command.
Her father gave Emiko a leather bound journal written by her uncle. Apparently when he had discovered Emiko’s quirk had developed and what it was he sent word out to his brother and had asked that he send it over as it detailed the things he had learned about the quirk as well as the methods he had used to learn to control it. This became an invaluable asset to Emiko as she continued to find things out about her quirk. She found that things were different about her own and her uncles though there were more similarities than differences.
Once again with a human body Emiko began to play with the other children. At first some made fun of her though that ended quickly as she would realitate with new and inventive pranks utilizing her quirk. The biggest issue she had at first was maintaining her human form as it took focus. Much like learning to walk or ride a bike however the more she practiced it the more it became second nature. Eventually though it did get to a point where she no longer had to even think about it to hold her humanoid shape.
Most of the time she wasn’t spending doing her school work or playing with the other children she worked on learning more control over her quirk. In the pictures she had seen of her uncle he looked like a normal person, and in his journal he had written about learning to control different properties of his body. First was coloration and transparency, slowly teaching himself to make his body look like a normal human being rather than a slime monster out of a videogame.
Another interesting change from Emiko’s quirk was how her body processed food. Unlike before her body no longer could process fruits or vegetables and would simply break down these into excess biomass, the same substance that makes up her body. Only meats and other foods with high protein contents would provide the needed nutrition and energy her new biology required. As well her body would no longer grow naturally with age and puberty and instead she would need to consciously make an effort to alter her appearance with age.
Slowly expanding her quirk Emiko began to learn to have finer levels of control over her body while in its humanoid form. At first it was simple changes such as altering her height or hair length but the more she practiced the easier it became to alter more detailed things such as the distinct shape of her body, making herself seem more feminine or masculine with a little trying. As she entered her early teenage years she even learned to change her own gender, able to be male, female, neither, or both at will.
Emiko also found that the changes she could make to her body were limited by her available biomass. Meaning that to make herself grow more than a few inches taller without starting to look stretched out and incredibly lanky she would need to consume foods that would provide her with more biomass. If she wished to become smaller without looking more rounded out then she would need to expel some of this biomass. The same would be true for trying to make herself seem more muscular or volutious compared to thinner and more lithe.
For the most part Emiko lived a normal life, as much as is possible while living in an antarctic colony that is. However like many children there she had her own goals and interests that grew as she neared high school age. Like many children her age Emiko did at one point have a desire to be a hero, but unlike many her quirk with potential to make that dream come true. Her father was her biggest inspiration. While he often said that he was “only a simple law man and not some fancy hero” she knew that despite how quiet it could be most of the time he still had an important job. And in the world at large that job was not just done by the police but by heroes. After all if the criminals were using their quirks then there would need to be someone who could fight back on even terms.
Surprisingly Emiko’s parents were rather supportive of this. As the project would be ending just before she turned fourteen and now that her parents were together they had to decide exactly where they would go after. Eventually it was decided that they would all move to Japan. Emiko’s family on her mother’s side was somewhat well off and was willing to help them as well her father didn’t exactly have much back in his home town in Ireland.
For the first time in her life Emiko was no longer going to be confined to the habitat. For the first time she was going to be able to see the world for herself and not just through the screen of a computer. Packing up everything they headed out by helicopter to a large ship. The trip was possibly the most exciting thing she had ever done. While she had thought that some people would think that a blue translucent girl running around would have been seen as odd there were plenty of people whose quirks made them look rather strange.
Once they had settled down in Japan however things were somewhat different. Suddenly being in a large city and having only known a small habitat that had less than a hundred and fifty people was a stressful change. But perhaps her least liked change was having to go to school. Before she simply did her coursework on a computer and when she was done that was it. But now she had to sit in class all day and then have even more work. She did however end up becoming rather popular. Having transferred in in the middle of the school year drew enough attention on it’s own compounded by the fact that she was basically a slime girl as well as coming from Antarctica.
Emiko took awhile to adjust to his new surroundings though did have a very active social life, making many friends. Perhaps one of his favorite things was to change which gender he would show up to school as. Able to convince the school to give him both the male and female uniform. It also made for some rather fun pranks on people by simply switching gender at a moments notice.
Eventually, around his fifteenth birthday or so Emiko learned how to alter the color of his body. Surprisingly while this seemed to be the most basic of changes compared to the other things he could do it was the most difficult to learn and master. It was around this time when he really began to experiment with his appearance. Trying to decide what he should look like on a regular basis. Being able to change appearance was fun at times but it was also a considerable mental drain and required more focus than simply picking one form and sticking to it with minor alterations. While he did have more control over his body’s shape and height he found that he had less control over his facial features than he had thought before. Mostly appearing androgynous and relying more on his body’s shape to portray his gender.
Eventually picking a frame and height that she prefered Emiko stuck to this. Though she did have some fun with her hair and eye coloration as she technically no longer had a natural hair color. However she did continue to have fun by being whatever gender she felt like going as any particular day, which made for some very interesting times when it came to potential romantic relationships as both guys and girls questioned what it would mean to like someone who can be either one.
Eventually Emiko applied for several hero school in Japan as he neared high school age. While his dream was to be accepted to UA his control over his quirk for use in anything other this mischief or just going about his daily life was somewhat behind. And while in the end he was admitted to UA he was put into the general studies course rather than the hero course. On one hand it felt almost like a slap in the face. In a way he would have prefered to simply have been rejected. But on the other hand the opportunity to advance up was still there.
And so Emiko began to practice. Learning more about her quirk from practice and talking with her uncle. The combat utility of such an interesting quirk was something that he had never considered and couldn’t provide as much help with though some of the things he had learned did prove to be useful in the end. It was a somewhat difficult struggle and too her the entire first year of her time at UA. Beginning into the second year she continued to push herself and soon enough felt as though she was ready. She had to be sure though as she would need to be on the same level as a second year hero course student. But her hard work eventually paid off and Emiko was moved to class 2-A for the hero course.
Eventually project Deep Freeze began. A total of seventy three volunteers were set out to antarctica along with a modular habitat designed to be where they would all live for the next fifteen years.
THE ARMORY
The only thing that Emiko really has in way of hero gear is her custom made hero suit. It's not really made of anything special or extra durable and is entirely there for looks. Considering that her clothing stays normal when she changes into her slime form and that she is resistant to normal forms of damage it's made from cheap and easy to repair and replace materials in case she looses it or it get's damaged in a fight.
QUIRK & SKILLS
BIOMASS
TYPE: Mutation
RANK/LEVEL: C-
SUMMARY:
At its most basic form Emiko’s quirk changed her more normal human biology into a goo like substance, taking on a semi spherical shape this could be considered her natural form. While in this form she can move around by simply rolling or slithering or it is possible for her to also bounce around to move. However while in this form she had no sense of smell, taste, hearing, or sight meaning she must rely solely on touch and her knowledge of the environment to navigate.
While in her slime form Emiko is generally around the size of a large beach ball, being slightly more dense than in her human form. While her biomass is slime like in consistency she doesn’t leave any kind of residue when she touches things. And with enough force even a human hand can push into her body. However if something does go inside of her it will feel wet while inside however won’t have any residue left once extracted, unless Emiko chooses to leave a thin layer of her biomass on the object or person. While inside of her Emiko has limited control over items she has absorbed, simply being able to move them from one spot inside of her to another though she is unable to do any sort of fine mechanical manipulations. If this object has its own ability to move, such as a person or robot, she won’t be able to manipulate it against its will. Meaning that if she were to absorb a human inside of her they would be able to break free without much trouble.
Emiko can also expand her size while in this form to a certain degree. This is mostly useful when it comes to encapsulating things. She can absorb things into her body and hold them there however this will increase her projected size as part of her inner volume is made up of this object. She can’t absorb anything into her body that is larger than a five foot tall human of an athletic build. While she can’t fully encapsulate objects larger objects she can still wrap herself around them though not fully.
Emiko’s slime form allows her to shape her body generally speaking into different basic shapes. The primary use for this is to be able to squeeze herself into small spaces that would be impossible for a normal person to enter. This includes air ventilation systems, underneath door gaps, and other tight spaces. However this also has the added benefit of allowing her to make emote type symbols while in her slime form.
The term for the material that makes up Emiko’s body is Biomass, thus the name of the quirk. This biomass is animated by her psyche and is a consistent viscosity throughout. Normally Emiko contains around fifty pounds (twenty three kilograms) of biomass. Consuming most edible matter such as fruits, vegetables, grains, ect will increase her biomass in proportion to the mass of the food eaten. The only food this is not true for is meat and other high protein foods which act as standard nutrition for Emiko.
Emiko does not need to eat in the same way as normal humans she can also absorb food in the same way that she can any other object. However only food can be digested while inside of her body. That said the food does not need to be cooked. Anything non organic or living can not be digested while it is inside of Emiko.
While Emiko no longer has a normal human anatomy she still has to breath, however her method for breathing is unlike the method used by a normal human to breath. Rather than taking in air into a set of lungs to harvest the oxygen Emiko’s entire body passively syphons off oxygen from the surrounding air and passively expels the waste carbon dioxide. Due to her odd biology Emiko does not require the same amount of oxygen that a normal human being does. Not only does this mean she can survive in higher altitudes but due to the efficiency of her body she does not “run out of breath” like a normal human would.
Through the years Emiko had learned to control her form as her quirk allows her control over her body in ways simply impossible for most humans. This control allows her to take on a humanoid form. While in this form at its most basic level she is the same translucent blue as her more globular shape she does regain the four senses she does not have access to in this form. More finite control allows her to alter the coloration of her body in specific areas, primarily this allows her to alter the color of her skin eyes and hair so that she becomes visually identical to a normal human being. While she has a default appearance that she sticks to she can easily alter the colors of different parts of her body at will.
While the coloration is an important change Emiko has also gained enough control of her quirk to be able to change the texture of her outer layer while in human form. This includes making her skin feel like human skin and hair feel like hair. However this does not change her inner composition. This meaning that if someone were to squeeze Emiko with enough force they wouldn’t feel any bones instead it would be similar to a gel filled stress ball.
Part of what makes Emiko’s human form more authentic rather than simply looking the part of a human being is her ability to make small alterations to her body in order to reproduce the functionality of certain organs. This includes eyes, ears, nose, and mouth. This allows her to perceive the world as a normal human being. She also is able to harden small amounts of her biomass in her mouth in order to replicate teeth. While she can harden parts of her body to create teeth in order to eat she does not have enough control to create bones throughout her body.
Another facet of Emiko’s quirk is that she can alter the shape of her body to certain degrees. While she can only take on a human form, meaning she cannot currently take on any sort of nonhuman form, she can make alterations to said human form. These alterations include height, body shape, muscle tone, hair length, secondary sexual characteristics, and gender. However the amount she can change any of these is dependent on the amount of biomass Emiko currently has.
While she is less dense than a human body so even at fifty pounds she generally stands at around four foot five to four foot ten. At this height she appears rather lithe and androgynous physically. Any height alterations above this will cause her body to seem incredibly thin and lanky to unhealthy and/or horrific levels and any alterations below this height will cause her to appear incredibly voluptuous and/or chubby. Attempting to make herself seem proportional to any sizes above or below her average will either require expelling extra biomass or gaining more of it.
Due to her odd anatomy Emiko is all but immune to most standard physical damage. As her body is made up of a goo like substance bullets will penetrate her form though won’t do anything in ways of damage to her, the same is true for blades and other sharp objects. Blunt force also does very little to her although with enough force it is possible to cause some of her body to become dislodged from the rest. And while it does less in ways of damage to her, blunt force still causes pain.
WEAKNESSES/LIMITATIONS:
While Emiko’s quirk is rather versatile it does come with several drawbacks. While Emiko has control over her body in many ways she does not have enough control to take on forms other than human. She also cannot alter her proportions beyond what is considered normal for the size of her body. As an example Emiko could not make her arm exceptionally long to grab an object from across the room or make her legs incredibly short in proportion to the rest of her body.
While Emiko’s biology makes her resistant to conventional means of attack it also weakens her against other types of damage. Ice/cold attacks will freeze Emiko very quickly (within two posts). And while this will not kill her it will immobilize her until she is able to thaw out. As well if she is exposed to temperatures below zero degrees Celsius (thirty two degrees Fahrenheit) Emiko will begin to freeze over the course of five posts and will remain in a frozen state unless exposed to higher temperatures.
Emiko Freezing chart.
0° C (32° F) 0o C - 5 posts
-5° C (23° F) - 3 posts
-19° C (14° F) - 1 post
On the opposite end of the spectrum Emiko is extremely susceptible to fire and heat. While she herself is non flammable any flame or heat based attacks will cause her to begin to boil from the temperature. This boiling begins at one hundred degrees Celsius (two hundred and twelve degrees Fahrenheit) and she will lose ten pounds of biomass per post increasing at a rate of five more pounds of biomass per post every ten degree Celsius increase in temperature.
Any temperature above twenty five degrees celsius (77° F) will cause Emiko to start to lose coherency while in her humanoid form. At first this simply makes her humanoid form softer than normal. Though every increase of ten degrees past this will cause her to become slower and more sluggish as well as increase the difficulty of keeping her humanoid form. At fifty five degrees celsius (131° F) Emikio will only be able to maintain her humanoid form for five consecutive posts before being forced into her slime form. The number of posts going down by one for every ten degree celsius increase beyond this. Meaning that at one hundred degrees celsius (212° F) she will be forced into her slime form.
Emiko is also weak to any kind of electrical energy. Any electricity passing through her body with a voltage above thirty volts will instantly paralyze Emiko. Emiko will remain completely paralyzed as long as this current is going through her body, once it has subsided she will revert into her round slime ball form for a period equal to half the number of posts she had been electrocuted rounded up.
Another drawback of Emiko’s quirk biology is that any biomass separated from her body no longer is under her influence and becomes inert. Her consciousness will remain in the largest portion of her body in the case that it is separated into multiple sections. Should she be split evenly then the chances will be fifty/fifty of which half retains her consciousness. While she does not have control over this disconnected biomass she can assimilate it to her form and as it
