It had been many months since Jules had been this busy, and they were loving every second of it. After several months of remodeling and cleaning, their second location of Café au Lait was finally ready to open. After a large grocery store run the previous night, the blonde cafe owner had awoken at 5 in the morning to painstakingly prepare the pastries and sandwiches they intended to sell today. While they weren't quite sure whether they would be busy or dead on their feet today, they prepared for the former, just in case ... and it was a good thing, too. Business had been booming all morning, and well into the afternoon. With only one employee currently it was hard to keep up with all the orders, but Jules managed well enough.
Now, as the 15th hour of the day started to tick past, Jules was finally able to catch a break. Only two customers currently lingered in the cafe, so the barista decided to take a moment to go around cleaning the workspace behind the counter, wiping up a flour spill, placing tea and coffee canisters back where they belonged, and wiping down the glass display to the pastry cabinet, which was currently almost empty. Hopefully that would soon be remedied, as they has a fresh batch of mini matcha bundt cakes currently baking, and batch of croissants laid out and ready to add to the oven after those were finished. 'Just 5 minutes more ...' they thought, smiling to themselves.
While they waited, Jules headed out into the lobby, where they began wiping down the tables for the upteenth time today, humming along with the quiet jazz music playing in the background.
(to get a good idea of the music in the cafe:

Jun had heard of a new place that opening up soon. They didn't have any extra lessons or anything, thankfully. So he was ready with a laptop in hand to look at more internship offers. Well, not literally, the computer was in his laptop bag. Still, he hoped the place would still be open by the time he got there. It wasn't exactly a long walk from the school, but it was long enough. Didn't help that he got distracted by a few people that recognized him as the Sports Festival champ. That was gonna be a chore...
Finally arriving at the place wearing his UA uniform, he walked in. There were a couple of people in there besides the barasta, who looked like they were just putting out a fresh batch of bundt cakes that smelled delicious. He wasn't much of a coffee drinker...but pastries were a huge yes from him. Walking up to the front, he was already trying to contain himself...and was glad for his amazing timing. Fresh cake was almost always the best! "Hello! I'd like one of those fresh bundt cakes you just brought out, please!" The pretty boy pulled out the amount of money asked. The five foot five blond gave the guy his money, and had to contain a squeal at the pastry goodness that was handed to him. "Thank you!" The bright, green eyed boy said his thank you and started off towards one of the tables. Taking out his laptop, he starting going through the offers. He did sneak in one bite of his cake and nearly moaned. He loved his sweets!

When the bell chimed, alerting them they had a new customer, Jules was unable to mask the delight on their face. They welcomed their new customer, a UA student by the looks of it, and headed back behind the counter to pull out the mini bundt cakes and switch them for the croissants. They grinned as the blonde haired customer requested one of the fresh cakes, and said, "But of course. Just let me add the glaze and I'll have it right out." Not more than a moment or so later, the cake was presented, and the customer turned away, bringing the pastry with them to a table with a, "Thank you!"
Jules beamed. This customer definitely seemed excited to be here. Hopefully this would be something the youngster would like. While the cake wasn't as bitter as usual matcha-flavored sweets, it was a bit different than a usual cake. The goal was for the glaze to make up for any sweetness shortcomings the cake itself had, creating a delicate balance between the earthy taste of matcha, the fluffiness of cake, and the sugary sweet glaze that seeped into the cake's pores.
The customer settled at one of the tables, setting up their laptop before ... Jules couldn't help but watch out of the corner of their eye as the customer took a bite of their cake. While they had tried to be discreet about watching their customers, they couldn't prevent the chuckle that bubbled in their chest as they watched the blonde's reaction. No denying, that face was one of pure euphoria, definitely something worthy of ... ahem. Well. Not that the youngster would know much about that anyway.
It seemed the blonde was intent on doing some work ... schoolwork, perhaps? They weren't quite sure. The other two customers in the cafe were enveloped in a chat with each other, careful to keep their voices down, as Jules had requested before. Not one to bother customers while they worked, Jules continued to watch out of the corner of their eye as they turned their attention to prepping the next batch of pastries to go into the oven, a batch of orange-cranberry muffins. Hopefully they were being discreet enough in their observations of their customers ... though Jules was sure it would be hard for a future hero to not notice their people-watching behaviors.

Right away Jun was able to eliminate a few dozen agencies. Small timers that wouldn't help his budding hero career at all. In fact, a lot of them seem to have their sights on him...the blond didn't realize he would have this many "junk" agencies wanting him to join them. None of them even had real impressive heroes come out of them! So why were they bothering with UA students in the first place? Their bar was way too high for these jokers! He took another small bite, letting out a small, squeaky moan. Luckily not very loud, so the ambient noise around them kept it hidden.
The UA sports festival champ trudged on with the offers, using a second tab to look up those that he didn't recognize. Which sadly was a lot of them. The other customers looked like they were finishing up their chat and was about to leave. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw the worker watching them. And him. People watching probably. Best used to remember if anyone will become regulars. Which if this cake was anything to go by, he just might. He might even grab a few things to take to the dorms and share with everyone.
When the worker got close enough, he had to ask. "You haven't been open long, how have things been since? If this cake is anything to go by, I'm gonna try to be a regular...maybe even drag a few classmates here..." Or deliver them food. Whichever they wanted.

For an ever-so brief moment, Jules forgot about watching the customers as the idea of making the next batch of pastries engulfed their mind. Circle around, shake out some flour on the counter ... Except ... it seemed they needed to grab another bag of flour.
As Jules made their way towards the stock closet, they were interrupted by the blonde-haired matcha cake customer engaging them in conversation. "Oh! Merci! Thank you," they said, bowing. "This location hasn't been open terribly long, non, but I do have another spot back in Tokyo that's doing quite well! This location has been busy, busy, busy since we opened! Not many UA students so far, though I expect that should change eventually, given time and ... perhaps a little word of mouth." They gave a teasing wink before they couldn't contain their own laughter. "I'm joking, of course, you're free to say whatever you like, though ... if you think you don't like the matcha cake, I'm happy to replace it with something else, yes?"
With a friendly smile, Jules took a moment to deliver the bag of flour to its destination before deciding it would be okay to take a temporary break from preparing pastries, and returned to their customer. "So, you are from UA, yes? Do you mind if I ask what it's like there? My quirk has never been very well suited to hero work, so I've always been fairly curious what a hero course is like," Jules asked, turning on their hot plate and begging to heat some water for a break beverage for themself ... perhaps they would do coffee, this time ...

Jun was a little surprised at the first location. He should search for it next time he was there to visit his brother. "I didn't know you had a location in Tokyo. My brother is there trying to catch up on his education and getting physical therapy...I should look for it next time I visit..." He neglected the twin part and the why. But that was a bit too personal for him to tell just anyone. While more open about it, he was still fairly tight-lipped. Upon the other part, he practically defended the cake with his body. And giving the guy a playful glare with a small twitch of a smile. Hopefully, that alone will give the impression of the blond's approval of the matcha cake. With hopefully a chuckle from the adult blond, they both went back to their respective work.
He'd gotten through a few dozen more before the guy was back again, apparently having hit a bit of a lull, and Jun was more than willing to have a bit of company. Still, it was interesting that someone would ask about that. "UA accepts all kinds. Even if your quirk isn't good for the hero work, the support behind them is just as important. Meka-sensei's practical tests are insane to say the least...the others, while challenging, are about what you would expect from them. Rescue training, getting to a scene as fast as possible, etc. Then there's the sports festival, though I think this one has been the most brutal one yet. I'm actually kind of surprised I made it to the tournament let alone actually won it. Those last two matches really could have gone the other way...especially the one with Wolf-kun..." A literal slip could have cost him the match. And Ren didn't take advantage of it, or hesitated. He was off on his internship already, so if he wanted an explanation, it would have to be when the guy returned. He was already missing the boy's cooking though.

While listening, Jules busied themself with prepping the coffee, deciding on a caramel-vanilla latte almost subconsciously ... One day their sweet tooth was going to get them in some serious trouble, but Jules was sure they would deal with it then. For now ... sugar and cream would do. Their hands worked quickly and skillfully, and soon the blonde was nursing a small cup of coffee, seated in a table across an aisle from the UA Student, so as not to invade their personal space.
It was kind of intriguing to hear the way the boy described UA. Jules wouldn't have thought that those not involved in hero-work would have been as readily accepted, though they did suppose there were always supports and dispatchers and the legal team that was needed to back up a hero in their work. They smiled. "That makes sense, though I am certainly not one for career in law ... and my quirk only lets me know the ingredients of foods I ate, which would be awful for poison, although ... I suppose I could have taken some kind of career in testing food for allergens," they said with a chuckle. "That way I'd be a sort-of-hero."
At mention of the Sports Festival, Jules' eyes lit up. "Ah, so you're the one who won the Sports Festival. I'm sure you get this a lot, but congratulations." They offered a bow and a smile. "My name is Jules Chastain ... Pardonnez moi, you'll have to forgive me, but I'm terrible at remembering names. May I ask for yours?"

The worker busied himself, but was still plenty obvious that he was still listening. Eventually sitting across from the shorty. He listened to the guy's quirk. He certainly agreed that it wasn't good for hero work, but it certainly works wonders for his chosen profession. "There's more than one way to be a hero. Just because I'll get a fancy license and a costume and beats down bad guys doesn't mean that's the only way to be one. It can be as small as providing food to a stranger in need. And there's always charities to donate to...just be careful which ones and do your research first." That wasn't as bad here in Japan as it was in the US. But one can never be too careful.
Jun blushed a little and even seemed a little shy at the congratulations. He wasn't used to it from strangers too much. Sure, he was bubbly and almost reveled in it at school, but not so much out of school. It was still a new experience for him. Still, he got a name. Looking back up, the cute blond smiled at the elder one. "Jun Tomoshibi. Nice to meet you!" From shy and embarrassed to bright and happy. "It's great that I won and all, but I still have to go through all the internship offers...and I got a lot of them...some I haven't even heard of..." Jun flipped his laptop around to show the list, with a decent chunk of them crossed out. "It's a bit of a pain, and a little discouraging when a few have already started on their's..." Doesn't help that the teenager had other things on his mind too.
