Fundamental understanding [kuro/mitsuko]
⤜don't slack off now⤛ Mitsuko snorted, thinking out loud Suits are not street clothes. However, Mitsu was only teasing. She had to admit, however probably wouldn't out loud, her classmate did look good in the clothing he chose. The girl could also express her gratitude for him not making a big deal over how she reacted, but she didn't. Something that Mitsuko experienced from her mother, however that may just be because of her mother's particular quirk and how similar quirks the mother-daughter duo had. However, the difference between their quirks, Mitsuko was still able to emote freely as her mother could not. Not wanting to make herself like a fool any further, Mitsuko just did some calming breathing exercises while her back was still turned.
Once the heat and color had left her cheeks, Mitsuko took her position on the mat - facing Kuro. She eased into the same stance she took before she began fighting with the training dummy. With one last calming breath, a deep inhale and a long, drawn out exhale, her eyes met up with Kuro's. Show me what you've got, she said with a smile.
She swayed to and fro in her starting position. Her eyes darting to and from Kuro, carefully not to engage her quirk. Since this time she was not fighting with an inanimate object, but instead a living breathing person that could be affected by her quirk. No accidents this time, she muttered under her breath. Once Mitsuko felt confident enough to strike, she did so. Not nearly as fast as the construct that both students battled earlier, Mitsuko ran most of the way up to Kuro, before twisting her body into a high kick - clearly aiming to strike his shoulder. Much like she did against the training dummy prior.

As Mitsuko took her position on the opposite side of the gym, Kuro used the final moment to prepare himself as much as possible. Sure, given what he'd seen it was more than likely that she'd come out on top, but that didn't mean he was going to make it easy for her. Taking one last deep breath in and out, he settled his Auburn gaze on his classmate and locked in.
And then they started to move. Kuro bounced lightly on his feet as he measured Mitsuko's stance, mirroring any movements she made. Although he really didn't have a whole lot training with hand to hand, he borrowed from the principles of sword fighting that he was more familiar with. Keeping your guard up at all times, maintaining distance, staying just out of your opponents range until you were actually ready to strike. Of course, trying to strike first against an opponent that was more experienced than you more often than not ended badly, so he just bided his time until she made her move.
When Mitsuko did finally start her offense, Kuro found that he was actually prepared for it. After being so mercilessly tossed about by the mannequin before, that was certainly a nice change of pace. More than that though, the movements that the girl made were familiar. With the image still fresh in his head he recognized that she was starting off exactly the same as she had before; a high side kick aimed at the shoulder. The dummy had caught the attack and attempted a counter before... could he do that? His body started to move to match the image, but as Mitsuko bore down on him he flinched and reflexively shied away from the tactic, instead dropping low into a crouch. Although mentally cursing at himself, Kuro didn't let the chance completely slip by. Once he was sure he was clear of the kick, he threw out a sweep of his own, trying to knock out the girl's supporting leg before she could fully reset from her attack. Regardless of whether he was able to connect or not, he quickly reeled back out of striking distance to return to the guard stance, not particularly willing to push his luck yet.

Fundamental understanding [kuro/mitsuko]
⤜don't slack off now⤛ Having no reaction to the fact her peer evaded her kick, almost like she expected it when she came crashing to the ground... she had an audible gasp. Her green eyes widened with surprise. However, she didn't stick in awe for long and quickly jumped back into starting position. I thought you said you were bad at this. She chuckled, hoping her words of praise weren't taken as a joke. She gave herself a few seconds to attempt to strategize. This was certainly easier than the fight she had just experienced. However, she should store what she learned in the prior because not every person she comes against will be on the defense and could possibly attack as relentlessly as the mannequin did. She's used to fighting against an offensive heavy opponent, thanks to her parents so it was just a battle of stamina and endurance. However, for defensive opponents, it's best to be quick with the strategy. Kuro didn't give her much of a choice but to be on the offensive since he picked to be defensive. Mitsuko leaped into a shoulder roll, closing the distance between the two heroes-in-training. She then popped up into a palm strike from the right, aiming for Kuro's chest. Slightly off from his sternum, because she wasn't looking to injure her friend. Mentally preparing herself for a counter-grab incase Kuro had the courage to grapple her instead of dodging this time. Mitsuko still kept her eyes darting back and forth from her classmate, never maintaining eye contact for more than a few seconds at a time. Doing this was just easier for her to not accidentally activate her own quirk.

Kuro felt his leg hit it's mark and followed through on his sweep, quickly rising and darting backwards again as Mitsuko hit the mat. Despite a seemingly successful hit though, something didn't seem quite right... Kuro frowned, making sure he shifted back into his stance fully as he responded to his classmate's comment. "Compared to you my dear, I am quite bad at this." Her movements as he countered didn't match the image in his head at all, in fact there basically was no movement when he dodged. If she'd been fighting the dummy, she would have adjusted and either caught him with her heel or just dodged the sweep altogether. Many people probably would have taken offense at an opponent holding back so much, but... He understood what it was she was trying to do; it was something that he needed whether he wanted to admit it or not.
As Mitsuko got back to her feet, Kuro closed his eyes and took another deep breath in and out, mentally coaching himself in the brief interlude between exchanges. 'You're not fighting a monster, you're practicing with a friend... No one's in danger, no one's going to get hurt, you're allowed to mess up... Focus on the movements, on what you learned...' As the boy continued to try and force himself to relax, the sound of movement drew his attention. He opened his eyes to see Mitsuko come out of her roll and pop up right in front of him. His muscles tensed as he saw the strike coming. His reflexes made him immediately start to back pedal in spite of himself, once again causing him to curse mentally. Twisting his body to the side he just barely managed to clear the palm thrust and quickly hopped backward to regain his distance.
Kuro's frown deepened. Once again, he'd seen an opportunity for a counter, but hadn't allowed himself to commit to it. With a quiet grumble to himself he shook his head and approached the problem again. The issue was one he'd struggled with in his early days of sword training with his mother... the fear of failure, and the consequences that came with it. And yet the whole point of practice was that there were no real consequences for screwing up. He'd eventually gotten over it with their sparring matches after his mother forced him to keep at it long enough... But it'd been a long time since the last time he had a match, not since the incident actually... Real failure, maybe that's what had brought the fear back? Did he really just need to get it through his head again? Well If talking himself down wasn't going to do the trick, then perhaps something a bit more direct was needed...
With a sigh, Kuro looked to his classmate. "This may seem odd, but I need a favor Mitsu." Breaking his stance he rose and turned to face her head on. "I'm going to stand here, and I need you to hit me without holding back. Please." He asked plainly, his face showing almost no emotion. Logically he knew that his friend wouldn't hurt him, but his body insisted upon shying away from any attack that came his way. Maybe taking a blow full force would convince it that there was nothing to be afraid of here.

Fundamental understanding [kuro/mitsuko]
⤜don't slack off now⤛ Mitsu lowered her guard and slightly stood up straighter, coming only partially out of her stance. Are you serious? Mitsuko asked, raising a brow. It made sense, he evaded everything so far. So maybe it was a psyche thing? She struggled internally a bit, does she actually hit him? He did ask for it, and he is her friend, she should happily oblige. Her face twisted into a look of discomfort. Still mulling it over in her head. Her green eyes flashed concern, and she twiddled around with her hands. Obviously taking it seriously to mull it over.
Mitsuko tapped her foot on the ground, then making her decision, she spoke, Alright, I will. However, if you don't get the results you want. I want to try something else. She smiled at her friend. It might help, she was willing to give it a try if he was. But committing to her decision, Mitsuko positioned herself the way she needed, bent down low with her knees and hands up. She took a deep breath and changed gears. He's still my friend, this is still training, but give it all you got...
After the last bit of words of confidence, Mitsuko charged at Kuro, committing herself to give him her all. Her breathing calm and focused, as she skids to a stop a little less than a leg length away. Mitsu twisted her hip, bringing her left leg up - and prayed. If she calculated it right - if this kick made contact with Kuro, he'd have an ear full of her shin. Please block me, please block me, please block me. Mitsuko closed her own eyes half-way through the kick, not able to look if she were to hurt her friend.

Was he sure? No, not really, but with the way things stood he couldn't think of a better way to deal with his nerves. The whole thing made at least some degree of sense in his head, maybe all it would take was a little shock to the system to get him back into the right headspace. Kuro gave Mitsuko a nod to confirm his intentions, offering a small smile when she agreed to do as he asked. As the girl moved into position and entered her stance, Kuro's face went fully impassive again, his mask fully taking over while he attempted to prepare himself. When she seemed just about ready, Kuro closed his eyes. Given how the first few attempts had gone, his body would probably react automatically, so he decided to approach it the same way one would a needle at the doctor's office; if you didn't see it coming you couldn't flinch and make it worse. Instead he simply tensed up his muscles and focused on his breathing, attempting to distract himself so that the anticipation wouldn't make the inevitable impact feel worse than it actually was. He didn't expect it to be particularly pleasant, but compared to the welts and bruises he got from the practice swords his mother used, a punch couldn't be that bad, could it? It wasn't like Mitsuko would actually be trying to hurt him after all.
That last thought hung in his mind for what seemed like an elongated stretch of time. He couldn't really tell why, but a strange sense of foreboding seemed to accompany it. Why would that be? As the moment dragged on he found his mind working far faster than usual, trying to reconcile the feeling. Eventually he figured he was just getting nervous for no reason and tried to distract himself again, once again bringing up the mental image of his friend in her fighting stance and trying to focus on the details that he might have messed up in their first few exchanges. And it was then that the switch in his head finally flipped. The stance that his classmate had taken in front of him.... she was standing further back and her legs were spread wider apart, her center of balance lower, almost exactly mirroring the motion she made when...
She wasn't going to punch him, was she?
The revelation came far too late. Kuro's eyes opened to a flurry of movement in front of him and his whole body tensed with a spike of adrenaline. His brain yelled for his body to duck and raise his arms to block, but there was no way he'd make it in time. For what it was worth the pain of the impact didn't really have a chance to hit him before his vision flashed and then went black, leaving the boy to flop unceremoniously to the mat.

Fundamental understanding [kuro/mitsuko]
⤜don't slack off now⤛ Feeling the impact against her shin, Mitsuko flinched. He didn't block me! She quickly dropped her leg and ran over to where Kuro had fallen. In her stomach, a large ball of guilt manifested and sat. Mitsuko came down to her knees besides where Kuro laid on the mat. She raised her hand to his mouth and nose, seeing if he was still breathing. The smile that usually sits upon her face is gone. Only a frown with green eyes filled with concern and guilt. The young girl shuffled to sit on her knees above his head on the mat. She lifted his head into her lap and gently nudged his shoulder, Kuro..? she called his name softly at first, but then with a deep breath, she spoke it again a little louder, Kuro? Her green eyes stared down at his upside-down face. Do I need to go get the nurse? Mitsuko brought her gaze up and around the room. They were still very much alone, which means she would have to leave him alone to get one. Pressing her lips together in a thin line, she looked back down at Kuro. Her blonde hair falling into her face, she brought a hand of hers to his cheek and gave a gentle nudge. If nothing woke him up soon, she would have no choice to go get a nurse.
That's when it hit her, Mitsuko had her cell phone in her pocket still. Or at least, she hoped it didn't fall out during either skirmish. She leaned to the side briefly to check, and with a triumphant yes, Mitsuko dug it out. After her cell phone was in her hand, she leaned back so that Kuro's head returned to the center of her lap. She begun to unlock her phone to make a phone call to either the school or someone who could go get the nurse.

Kuro was in darkness. Unable to move. Unable to speak. Unable to even think. All he could do was wait, his heart pounding thunderously in his chest as each moment seemed to stretch on for an entire lifetime. Any other options simply were an impossibility at this point.
Just wait and watch.
The only source of light was through a crack in front of him. Through it he could see the scene beyond, still dim but with enough ambient light to make out the details. Six people. Four crouching down, one standing over them, one laying flat on the ground, not moving. He'd seen it happen, the man had been talking to someone on a phone and gotten angry. There was a flash of light, then Mr. Takiri just crumpled to the floor and a burning smell filled the air. It could have just as easily been any of them, Mr. Takiri hadn't done anything wrong. Mr. Komura, Mr. Hitoshi, Mrs. Hitoshi, Yuki, any of them. It could have even been him... but somehow the man hadn't seen him. The door had opened, the man had shouted in, but... nothing happened. The door swung shut, except for that little crack. He'd just been left alone in the dark and forgotten. How long had it been since then? The passage of time didn't seem to make any sense any more, both standing still and flying by in an instant. Kuro couldn't comprehend it, couldn't comprehend anything that was happening in front of him.
As the minutes passed by the man started talking on the phone again. Then he started shouting. Then the shouting got louder. Kuro could tell it was coming. That awful, bright flash. If nothing stopped him it would happen again, and someone else would fall over. His best friend, her parents, their teacher, one of them would fall and wouldn't get up again. The shouting grew louder still. Something had to stop him, but what could possibly do that? The beating in Kuro's chest rose to a fever pitch as his mind finally started lurch into motion and his eyes started rapidly scanning the room. The man was looking out the front windows, Kuro could see his back. He didn't know there was anyone else in the building, didn't know he'd missed someone. His attention was on whoever was outside, if Kuro could reach the counter then he could-
With his hand extending toward the door handle, the boy's mind instantly ground to a halt again as his eyes met Mr. Takiri's empty expressionless face. A thousand terrible voices echoed through his head and his body went completely rigid, an icy hand gripping his spine and freezing him in place.
You can't do this. You're weak. You're worthless. You're no one. You screw up everything. You'll only make it worse. You'll get yourself killed. You'll get them killed.
A thousand terrible voices speaking a thousand terrible truths.
And then the flash came. The world flooded with light and smoke, then more shouting, then thunderous, deafening noise. Kuro closed his eyes and covered his ears, but the noise didn't stop, beating against his head relentlessly, a dull aching pain that seemed to reverberate through his skull until everything else around him faded away...
Once again he was in darkness, nothing but the throbbing of his head to accompany him.... No, that wasn't quite right, was it? He could sense someone nearby, faintly hear a voice through the shroud. It was a familiar voice and... there was more. His head was resting against something soft and he could slowly feel the rest of his body coming back into focus. It was lying down on something, and it was sore.
With a soft groan Kuro started to stir, his eyes blinking several times against the light of the gymnasium. Immediately he recognized the face that was hanging over him and the rest of reality seemed to snap into place around it. He let out a silent sigh of relief. It had just been a dream... no, not a dream; a memory and a nightmare, all in one. It had been a while since the last time it haunted his sleep, but it wasn't a new experience for the boy. The throbbing pain in his head on the other hand, was. Instinctively he raised a hand to rub the side of his head in a futile attempt to ease the ache. It took a second or two for him to remember what exactly had caused that particular ailment, but the memories leading up to the incident quickly returned, leaving Kuro to look up at Mitsuko with a forced smirk. "That wasn't quite what I had in mind when I asked you to hit me." Seeing the clear worry in his classmate's face however, he quickly dropped the snark from his voice. "...How long was I out?"

Fundamental understanding [kuro/mitsuko]
⤜don't slack off now⤛ While Kuro was out, Mitsuko kept her hand against his cheek and used her free hand to dial the number for the school. Hoping they would be able to patch her through to the school nurse without the need to leave her friend. She had pressed the dial button and begun to bring the phone up to her ear. While the phone was still ringing, she felt Kuro stirring. She looked down at her friend, when his eyes opened - a wave of relief washed over the blonde girl and she hung up the phone call quickly. Setting the phone down on the ground beside them, Mitsuko felt herself choke up, You’re okay! Mitsuko’s voice cracked, while she was relieved Kuro was awake now, a ball of guilt still sat in the pit of her stomach.
She removed her hand from his cheek when he raised his own to rub the bump she had given him on the side of his head. When he gave her a feigned smirk and told her that wasn’t exactly what he had in mind… the ball of guilt bounced up into her throat. Tears stung as they began to form in her eyes. I am so sorry, Kuro! She placed a hand on her chest, trying to control her own emotions to answer his question. Um, about seven minutes… She wiped her tears away, I was in the middle of calling the school to see if they’d send the nurse here, so I wouldn’t have to leave. The smile that seemed to be a permanent feature of Mitsuko didn’t grace the girl’s face once since Kuro woke up. What was I thinking, I should have gone easier… What were you even trying to accomplish… She covered her face with both of her hands. Feeling it heat up with embarrassment and slight anger, but her voice was quiet. Internally, Mitsuko was blaming herself for the entire situation. I should have gone easy from the start. He admitted not having much hand-to-hand combat practice.
Here… when you feel like you can get up, I can help… Mitsuko dropped her hands from her face. She wormed her hands under him, against his shoulder blades, and pushed him up from her lap. Goosebumps formed where his head was laying due to the absence of warmth, but Mitsuko paid no mind. Once Kuro was sitting up, Mitsuko got up off the ground and extended a hand to him to help him the rest of the way up.

Seven minutes... only seven minutes? The dream had felt much longer than that, but then again time was funny like that. It had happened back then too, an hour had lasted what felt like an eternity... As his brain tried to reconcile the difference, Kuro glanced up to see the display of raw emotion on Mitsuko's face. Immediately the boy's gut twisted, even before she said a word he could see how upset she was. That pained expression she was wearing was his fault wasn't it? And yet she was the one apologizing to him, clearly taking the blame for the entire situation when it was just as much his fault for trying something so stupid in the first place. Unable to find the words that would help he just stayed silent until the question came. What had he been trying to accomplish? "Well I..." How to explain... He couldn't just come out and say how terrified he was, or just how little confidence he had in his own abilities. A lack of confidence that was only exasperated by some very clear evidence of his own past failures. No, that wasn't an option, and so as always he'd stick to the half-truths that sustained the façade.
"...I was stuck thinking I was still fighting the mannequin, blasted thing hits too hard for me to trade blows with, so I figured if I let you hit me it'd help my brain reset." He explained as he continued to rub the aching spot on his head, where a sizable lump had begun to form beneath his hair. That was definitely going to be sore for awhile. "I really should have made it more clear that I was expecting a punch though..." He forced a smile again, hoping it was more convincing this time for Mitsuko's sake.
Still slightly dazed, Kuro allowed his classmate to sit him up. He took a second to let the world stop spinning before reaching for the hand that had been extended to him, but stopping halfway as a realization hit him. His hands were shaking. It wasn't just a little bit either. Mentally cursing at the display, he tightened the hand into a fist and shut his eyes; In spite of all his attempts to shake off the nightmare it still took its toll, he could still see that scene in front of him whenever his eyes closed. "...Sorry, I still need a moment." The boy said with a shake of his head as he used his other hand to cover his eyes. Sitting there on the floor he took several deep breaths, counting the seconds as he tried to calm the pounding in his chest and banish the images from his mind.

Fundamental understanding [kuro/mitsuko]
⤜don't slack off now⤛ During Kuro’s half-admission, Mitsuko’s face softened. Not quite believing it was whole. However, she wouldn’t push her friend any further. Especially since she had knocked him out, I’m still so sorry Kuro, my first natural instinct is to react with a kick. She would mutter softly, but still loudly enough for the boy to hear.
She gripped onto his hand tightly and brought her free hand to steady him by resting against his shoulder. However, her friend's hand shook in hers, and he appeared off. She helped ease him back down onto the ground when he admitted that he needed a moment. Do you want to talk about it? She offered him an outlet, sitting down beside him. She wanted to make sure her friend was okay but didn’t want to push him if he wasn’t comfortable. The ball of guilt still weighed her down. Mitsuko had to do something to make it up to him.
She gave Kuro a hug from the side and patted his back trying to be comforting. If you need to talk about what happened, because I think it was more than just… she hesitated, more than just me taking you by surprise… She pierced her lips together, I saw a bit of the fight with the training dummy, and well… I also saw that you wouldn’t block me. She rubbed the back of her head, Not even when you told me to give it my all… So I am curious… what is keeping you from defending?
She didn’t want to assume, however, Mitsuko felt like she needed to tell him about her quirk now. Essentially her idea to help him. My quirk, I can control one’s confidence… I accidentally did it before, on you. And I had an inkling, that this may be a confidence issue. Perhaps I can boost yours and we can try again? I promise not to kick this time, and obviously, we can wait until you are ready. She smiled softly at Kuro. Hoping he wouldn’t turn her down.

Kuro did his best to clear his mind, calling upon the meditative techniques his mother had taught him in the wake of the incident to help get himself back under control. Breath in. Breath out. Don't think, just keep counting and let it distract you... That was the plan anyway, but gods did that headache make it hard to keep everything else blocked out. Still, it was the best way he knew to get the memories to subside so he stuck with it as best he could. It'd work eventually, it always did...
19... 20... 21...
He did the counting in time with his breathing, but around the time he hit 25 he was interrupted. Kuro's whole body went tense at the unexpected physical contact and he lost his count. He'd never been particularly good with people touching him, but even as his natural reactions told him to shy away he had to admit that at that particular moment the hug wasn't entirely unwelcome. After a few seconds his muscles relaxed again and he unconsciously leaned against his friend for a bit of support as more cracks formed in the mask. He hesitated in answering the girl's question, but it was obvious enough that she wasn't buying his excuses at this point.
"...A bad memory reared it's head while I was out." He finally said, his voice sounding tired and slightly drained as the words left his mouth. "Just a reminder of why I'm here, why I need to be better than I am." When she pushed a bit more about how he'd been behaving during their training he hesitated again briefly, but with his silence broken the gates were already open. There was no sense confiding in someone if he was only going to go half way, and the blow to his head wasn't exactly helping steel his resolve against it. "...It's pretty simply really. I'm really not very good at this whole fighting thing, never have been. Just never had the temperament I guess."
"...But I need to be. That can't ever happen again. I can't let it." He said with a shake of his head, that last image of the Yuki and her family still clinging to his vision. The words were spoken with a backing of determination wholly unfabricated though, and as the façade slipped further the boy's shaking began to subside ever so slightly.
As Mitsuko began talking about her quirk, Kuro remembered back to the day they both arrived on campus. He'd had a little bit of an odd feeling, barely even noticeable and the girl had apologized afterward, was that what she was talking about? Still, she was saying that she could change his confidence... would that really do anything to help? He could see the logic behind it, but would that really- No. It didn't matter, if it had any chance at all of helping him past whatever mental block was getting in his way then he had to try it. He owed them all that much. Finally opening his eyes he turned to meet Mitsuko's gaze and gave his friend a nod.

Fundamental understanding [kuro/mitsuko]
⤜don't slack off now⤛ When Mitsuko felt Kuro get tense, she thought about releasing him from the side hug. However, when he relaxed and leaned against her, she stayed. Allowing herself to be a pillar for her friend. She listened to his tired words, her heart twisting in pain about the bad memory. She swept some of her hair behind her ear as she continued to listen to him talk.
She continued to pat his back rhythmically, letting him take in the information she gave about her quirk. Her slip up was so brief before, he may not have noticed. However, if she were to use her quirk this time, perhaps he would be able to distinguish the difference in how he felt. She closed her eyes and thought about what she had offered him. It is a way to help, but would it be considered cheating if she did so in class if he still hesitated? That would be a bridge to cross later. First, to help him this time. She leaned a bit away from him, feeling him shift. Her green eyes looking into his auburn, she watched as he gave her a nod of approval.
Mitsuko shuffled a bit away from Kuro, and began to stand. She reached her hand down to help him up, Do you want me to attack you again, or do you want to get me? she asked sheepishly. The guilt of her action still lingering in her voice. Her eyes kept focused on Kuro, it wouldn’t take too much more time for her quirk to activate and the boy to feel a difference in how he felt.

With his answer given, Kuro felt Mitsuko pull away and start to rise. Despite the conviction that he'd managed to muster he didn't move to follow right away, instead waiting a few moment to let his heart rate calm down a bit more. Having finally opened up to someone about what he'd been grappling with, he could feel a bit of the stress he'd been keeping locked away fade. The hug had honestly probably helped a bit too in that regard. Yuki had been the only person he could ever talk to before, and although it would mean lifting the mask even more, the idea of having someone else that he could turn to was an appealing one. It wasn't a massive weight off his shoulders or anything like that, but it was something. A start at the very least. After a minute, the boy finally took a deep breath and once again reached for the hand that was offered him, his own no longer trembling.
As he climbed to his feet, Kuro felt a wave of disorientation hit him, his head once again reminding him that he'd just recovered from being knocked unconscious. He managed to catch himself and keep from completely losing his balance, and after a second the sensation passed. After shaking the stars from his vision he ran a few quick tests, leaning from side to side, shifting from one foot to the other. It certainly wasn't pleasant, but it wasn't exactly crippling either. He figured as long as he knew to expect it and didn't do anything too extreme it would likely be fine, but just to be safe... Kuro closed his eyes and took a deep breath. "Help me balance." He said quietly as if to himself, and then opened his eyes to repeat the same motions as before. Still not pleasant, but this time when he moved he could feel his clothes pulling on him slightly, helping to keep him steady with each motion. Something to hopefully keep him from falling on his backside when they actually started up again. "Well, I guess that works..." He mumbled to himself as he looked down to inspect his gym uniform. It was similar to the idea he'd had before for trying to fight Mitsu on more even ground, and if it proved effective then he would have to take some time and rethink some of the potential uses for his quirk.
Satisfied enough for the moment, Kuro turned back to Mitsuko and gave another nod to indicate that he was ready. "I think... I need you to try hitting me again, just... maybe not aiming for the head this time." He smiled ruefully, too mentally tired to bother trying to maintain his usual exaggerated speech patterns at this point. As he shifted into his stance and locked eyes with Mitsuko, he could swear that he could practically feel his friend's gaze upon him. It was an... odd sensation to say the least. The doubts and worries, the shadow of that terrible day, they were all still there, but it felt like they were getting smaller, further away. Maybe he didn't have to just fake it, maybe he could actually do what he set out to do without hiding behind the act... What a foreign thought that was. But it brought with it a calming effect that seemed to make the rest of the nay-saying voices fade. Soon enough it was just him in there, just the steady rising and falling of his breath and the tiny seed of determination that had brought him to the UA in the first place.
"...I'm Ready."

Fundamental understanding [kuro/mitsuko]
⤜don't slack off now⤛ Mitsuko pulled Kuro up to his feet when he accepted her hand. She would smile softly at him, her green eyes never leaving his own. I’m not sure how this will work, but I am glad you said you would try.
When she saw her friend sway, she would reach out to help stabilize him. Then it hit her and she stopped herself, He is activating his quirk, she thought. She quickly put her arms down to her side. Mitsuko would look over Kuro, nothing had seemingly changed, but it made her curious how many applications his quirk had. She kept her eyes focused on Kuro, making sure that she didn’t look anywhere else - it was the only way her quirk would work effectively. She also had to make sure that they were quick about training now. Since she had a time limit of how long her quirk could work before affecting her own health, however, her friend didn’t need to know that. As long as she worked training well enough.
She would take a few steps back away from Kuro before getting into her ready stance. I promise not to aim for your head, she would state calmly, she was conflicted with her own anxieties over the situation. Mitsuko obviously hurt him pretty bad the first time, though that was a misunderstanding on her part. Now that her quirk was affecting him, she could attempt to go a little easier too. The moment that Kuro spoke the words that he was ready, Mitsuko’s muscles tensed. Was she? If it was to help a friend. Of course.
Reeling her left arm back, Mitsuko would take a step forward and bring her right arm inward close to her body. Aiming a flat palm strike for Kuro’s sternum, Block me, she’d pray in her head. However, the strike would have half the force as the kick had.
