RUMOR/SECRET: | Never talks about her parents because they were villains. Also, probably eats hot coals. |
Hiyake is a warm-hearted person, with an abundance of energy and goodwill. She’s the sort of person who would go out to do charity work while wearing a pair of neon red rollerskates and a t-shirt with dirty jokes printed on it. In spite of her constant high-energy and her spunky attitude, she has the odd habit of ending up the mom-friend. She’s always making sure the people she know are dressed for the weather and have plenty to eat. She’s always forcing plastic baggies of burnt chocolate chip cookies and pans of fudge into the hands of her coworkers. She gets emotionally invested really easily, making her someone who is quick to make casual friends, regardless of shady circumstance. Deep honest relationships, however, are much more difficult, with her being closed off even to people she has known for years.
She is incredibly hard on herself for failure, and in spite of being the sort of person who would seem like a fun teacher, she is actually terrifyingly harsh. Although she’s nice to her students out of class, in class she pushes them constantly and accepts nothing less than perfection, preferring brutal criticism to careful and kind flattery. Her enthusiasm can take off a little of the sting, though not much. She’s a bit of a control freak, and hates letting others make the decision. Additionally, Hiyake has no concept of a work-life balance, so between teaching and hero-work, she’s incredibly sleep deprived, and can often be seen using her cape as a make shift blanket.

BACKGROUND HISTORY
PLACE OF BIRTH/HOMETOWN: | Tokyo |
PARENTS: | Hiyake, Noburu (Deceased Father) Hiyake, Hana (Mother) |
SIBLINGS: | N/A |
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: | Single |
OTHER: | N/A |
Born to a poor man and woman running a small flowershop, Hiyake had a quiet gentle childhood. She loved spending time with her parents, arranging bouquets and admiring all the pretty flowers. They spoiled her, and when all she wanted for her fourth birthday was a shop of her own, they gladly acquiesced, making a small stand inside the store for the entrepreneurial child to sell customers flower chains for pocket change. Although she admired heroes and was a fan from a young age, her dream for the future was to run her parents’ flowershop.
When she was twelve, a desperate villain broke into their flat in the middle of the night. He stabbed and killed Hiyake’s father. Stricken with rage fueled grief, the young girl ran at the villain. He stabbed her as well, but the blood from the wound immediately turned into a spray of flame, incinerating the villain almost instantly. Between the emotional trauma, her lack of training, and the serious blood loss, she quickly loss control of the fire. The apartment and the flowershop below were both shortly burned to the ground. It was only thanks to her mother’s bravery and willingness to throw herself into danger that they got out of the fire alive.
With her father dead, her mother too wounded to work, and her home and heritage burned to the ground, Hiyake was adrift, with little left to motivate her. She sank into an early depression, barely eating or speaking as she tried to move beyond the shock of what had happened. Two weeks after the incident, while sitting with her mother in the hospital, an interview with a pro hero came on. This reignited her fire, and she decided she wanted to protect other kids from going through what she went through. She joined U.A. to learn how to control her quirk and help others. After graduating, she went on to make a name for herself as “Sunstorm, The Ash-risen Hero.”
After a fairly nasty fight in which she lost a lot of blood and several civilians died, both her doctors and psychologists agreed: Hiyake had to take a break. She accepted a job teaching at U.A, completely planning to return to full-time hero work at the end of the term. However, she found she enjoyed spending time with the students and teaching them how to better utilize their quirks and help others. It brought her a lot of joy and did a lot for her mental health. When the term was up, she did return to hero work, but only part-time, having discovered a deep passion for teaching the next generation of heroes. She has been with U.A. for about four years now.

THE ARMORY
- Heatshield Mask: A sturdy mask that completely hides her face. It has a simple interface with some basic tracking and communication functionality, but its primary purpose is to protect her from her own flames.
- Heatshield Cape: A long white cape made of a strong flame-retardant material, used to protect civilians from her quirk.
- Throwing Knives: Simple sharpened knives with serrated edges, used for long-range combat. She tends to have a few dozen with her at all times.

QUIRK & SKILLS
HOTBLOODED
TYPE: Emitter
RANK/LEVEL: A
SUMMARY:
Her blood turns into golden flame on contact with the air. Once it turns into flame, she can control and manipulate it pyrokinetically. The amount of flame she has at any given time depends on how much she has bled. Although she can intentionally put out her flames at any time, it takes complete focus. She is able to use her fire to “absorb” other flames, bringing it under her control as well. Her limit on control capacity seems to be about 20 cubed feet of fire.
WEAKNESSES/LIMITATIONS:
Although she suffers less from blood loss than most people, overuse of her quirk dose lead to the symptoms of serious blood loss. She has complete control of her flame up to one hundred yards, at which range she cannot reach. Her quirk is less effective in the rain and snow (she can produce 20% less flame in light rain and snow, 50% less during heavy rain and snow, and 80% less during heavy violent storms) and is a bad matchup against quirks of that sort of element. (A water/snow quirk of an equal level would reduce her flame by 40%. One level lower would be 35%, higher would be 45%. Scales evenly.) Lastly, although her fire is incredibly powerful and she has trained herself rigorously, she has to be very careful with how she uses her quirk, as fire is difficult to use non-lethally.

KNIFE THROWING
RANK/LEVEL: B+
SUMMARY:
In order to give herself a less lethal option to balance her quirk, Hiyake learned about knife throwing. She has a powerful arm, enough that she can lodge a knife up to the hilt from twenty meters. She spent a lot of time practicing her aim. When she’s standing still and focusing on an unmoving target, she can accurately land a dagger on a three inch target from twenty meters. It becomes exponentially more difficult when both she and the target are moving, and other environmental conditions like darkness or cover can also cause trouble.
ACROBATICS
RANK/LEVEL: B
SUMMARY:
Even before deciding to become a hero, Hiyake took gymnastics classes. They were mostly basics, but they gave her a fair foundation for later years. During her time studying at U.A, she took a specific interest in acrobatics, and spent a great deal of time training in and out of classes, and specifically chose to intern under a hero with an acrobatic quirk. She is capable of scaling walls at about half her running speed, recovering from high falls by rolling, and using the environment around her to travel swiftly.
DEFENSIVE INSTINCT
RANK/LEVEL: B+
SUMMARY:
When an attack is coming, she instinctively acts to defend allies or civilians. When someone other than her is in immediate danger, she gets an immediate temporary boost to whatever skill she has that can be best used to protect that person. For instance, if a civilian were falling off a building, adrenaline would give Hiyake would have a temporary rank up to her acrobatics skill, giving her a better chance of saving that person. The boosts only happen when someone is in danger that is absolutely immediate, and cannot be used for anything but defense. (I.E, it can’t be used to boost her quirk and give her a more powerful attack when someone is about to be hit by a car.)
