There were certain advantages to not require any sleep after all an average person spent 1/3 of their lives sleeping. Amaru was using this time to work on his project or just to study. The problem was, that sleeping was important for other reasons as well, one of them was to organize one's thoughts. When the young redhead wanted to do it he usually visited the school ground and just stared in the sun for some time. Granted, it was highly unadvisable for most people but Amaru wasn't most people. Thanks to his unique eyes this wasn't really a concern for him, it was in fact very relaxing. Given that he wore thick black glasses nobody found sun-staring particularly weird. This day it was one of the days when he really needed to sort his thoughts a bit. Being accepted into U. A was a success, but he still took it as his personal failure that he was only able to get into the support class. Amaru wasn't stupid, he knew that his abilities were best used as a support, but it didn't make it any easier. He knew he could be a great hero one day given the chance and right now it seems that he missed his chance. He was trying to stay positive - this was just a start, not the end, but realizing it didn't really help him right now. Visibly down he just sat on the ground while most of his classmates were eating in the cafeteria.

Raphael smiled at the lunch lady as she served up a plate of...something to him. To be honest, he wasn't too sure what it was meant to be, but it was dark red. Like...really dark red. A layer of orange oil covered the surface. It seemed the ladies in the cafeteria had taken a liking to him in the few weeks he had been here, and he had mentioned he liked spicy things once and so...today his lunch was...something. Actually, he should have seen this coming, as his food in the last few days had progressively become spicier, with the women asking him how he found it and he had always said it was good and when asked about the spice level, he had replied with the truth that it was fine or more would be fine also, and that had ultimately brought upon the appearance of this monster lunch dish. The blonde first year made his way outside, having had his lunch to go, it was a nice day and he thought he could sit outside. That was when he spotted a mass of red hair and the boy it was attached to. Oh?What was he doing there? Even though he was aware he may be sticking his nose into something he was not welcome in, he couldn't help but make his way towards the other boy, who looked roughly his age. Strange, he had not seen hima round anywhere before... Raphael liked to say remembering names and faces was actually one thing he was good at. "Hello? Are you...okay there?" He asked cautiously.

It really was a nice day and Amaru was a little surprised that more students weren't outside. They were probably busy with exercises or studying after all this school wasn't exactly easy. And sure, it was time for dinner, but what was preventing them to take the food outside? Were there some rules against it? Since he had no plans of visiting the cafeteria Amaru didn't study the rules for it. His quiet time was suddenly interrupted by the arrival of a fellow student. Amaru didn't know him, but to be perfectly honest he knew very few people outside of his class. "Oh, hey... yeah, I am doing fine. Just needed some..." he wildly gesticulated with his arm "... fresh air." he finally finished his thought. His brain was pretty much focused on his current dilemma, so it took him a moment to react. After a moment of silence, he smiled a little. "It's pretty relaxing here, don't you think?" he asked still a bit lost in thoughts. "Oh, I am Izumi Amaru from class 1-H." he introduced himself, though he didn't even stand up from the ground. He was fairly sure that this new guy was one of the lucky ones who got into the hero department. Perhaps he was avoiding them because he was afraid there was some resentment over the fact that they actually got in and he didn't? Possibly... but he didn't feel like that right now. And even if he originally sat here to be alone he wouldn't mind some company.

"Yes! And it's such nice weather today too, ah okay, sorry if I was bothering you..."
Raphael said with a shy smile.
"Ah, that's why I didn't think I saw you around anywhere before! I'm Raphael Seraphine, 1-A. Nice to meet you!"
He said as he held out a hand. "H...is support class, isn't it? What is your speciality?"
To be honest, if Raphael had actually had a quirk useful to support rather than field support, he probably would have gone there instead. But as it were, his quirk was only useful when heard in real time, so he would have to become a hero to be of any use. Even then he wasn't sure if he could be, ultimately but he only had one option in life and that was to try.

"Nice to meet you too." he smiled and finally stood up to shake his hand. Though he sat back right after doing that. "Yup, I am from the support class." he nodded but didn't do the best part of hiding his mixed feeling about the fact. "Oh, You want to know my secrets?" Amaru asked. There was really no reason for not telling him. There probably was going to be some battle events between classes, but he seriously doubted they would allow support class to join on the fun. "My specialty is taking trash and turning it into a work of art." he tried to give it a bit of dramatic flair. He was proud of his work but he didn't create anything for his fellow students before. He was pretty sure that the day will come one day. The thought that one of the future pro-heroes might be using tools he would create was an interesting one. "My quirk is quite useful for creating powerful weapons and tools. Well, that's one thing it does, anyway. It has some other perks" he smiled and fixed the position of his glasses. He was never taking them off, not even in class. He learned a long time ago that people reacted strangely when they saw his eyes. It appeared that having glowing orbs instead of normal eyes was deep in the uncanny valley. "Oh... also I could do some funny things with a light bulb... but I don't have one with me..." he pointed "How about you?"

"Secrets? I didn't even really think of it like that..." Raphael replied with a gentle smile. It made sense if one thought about it, they were all technically rivals, but being someone who had a support type quirk, and with his non confrontational, mild nature he had never really thought of it in that way. "Wow~ so you are...umm....like a smith? Or is it more mechanical weaponry?" He pulled out his takeaway box from the plastic bag. "Is it okay if I eat my lunch?" The blonde asked, knowing it may be slightly rude to randomly just start eating. "Oh...that sounds like you have a very interesting quirk! Mine? Do you mean like, what's my quirk? The main ability my quirk has, is to heal or inspire people when they hear my song." He started to explain, assuming that was what the teen meant by what was his. Technically, he could be asking what type of hero he would be, so he supposed he would add that also. "It's a sound type emitter... in theory, I should be able to use it for sonar and creating vibrations like my father used to do...but I'm not good enough yet, so I guess I have to work and train much harder!" Raphael laughed a little awkwardly to hide his insecurities. His father had been a powerful hero, harnessing his ability to control sound to bring many a villain to their knees. He had that legacy to uphold, to be someone fitting of their family name. "I suppose...I may be more suited to rescue work..."

"No, sorry, I was just joking. I think as support I should probably talk about it since I am here to help the heroes to get some decent gear. Or in my case a pretty awesome gear." he explained not really trying to be modest about it. "Well... yeah, kind of. But that's not just it. I actually have a smithing hammer... but creating the weapon is just a first step. The more impressive part comes after that." he just nodded, when Raphael wanted to eat lunch. Amaru didn't mind at all. "I call my quirk "The Spark" and well... I am basically a living battery. And I can transfer my energy to the weapons I create, making every single one unique." he added to the explanation. As he listened it was clear, that Raphael's perk was also quite supportive, but quite differently. He probably would be a better rescuer than a fighter, but there was no shame in that. "You are saying it as if it was something negative. You have a gift to save many, many people." but he probably won't win any popularity contest anytime soon. These were for the flashy heroes that weren't above showing some flashy powers, smile for the cameras or even appear in TV in some capacity. You could buy their action figures in every shop. Some considered it a bit distasteful. "Not to mention that we just started this school, right? You might learn to use your powers in wholly unexpected ways."

Wow, U.A had such a wide array of people...it was the one truth that really did hit Raphael hard the last few weeks here. Even his classmates were all so varied in quirks, and he hadn't even met the rest of his year, nevermind the rest of the school! He was used to being in his middle school in Gunma, that hardly had anyone with a notable quirk and it wasn't like he ever really used his unless it was for his mother either. It took a bit of getting used to, but he couldn't deny it was exciting, in a way. Possibilities seemed infinite. "T..thank you for your words I...I hope, I can meet those expectations...I guess I just have to do everything I can. That's true, I guess we are all here to learn about things we can do..." It made him think about his latent side effect of his quirk that he had inherited from his mother. He hadn't actually managed to use it to make anyone happy or help someone out, but maybe....just maybe, one day he can change those uncomfortable, awkward moments into one where he could save someone because of it. "Izumi-san is very kind!" He said with a smile before he started to eat the dark red mound of spice and something...was that mince? In his box. Oh, it tasted pretty good! It was a bit spicy, he supposed. Was this ma-po tofu? Were those blocks of orangy-red tofu? Maybe he should ask the lady tomorrow...

It was true that the U.A was a place for people of all walks of life. And since quirks could be really strange it wasn't an understatement. People with mutants quirks could come in colors, shapes, and sizes. Seriously, his former classmates was basically made of granite. As far as mutants quirks went Amaru felt like he was lucky - yes, the glasses were unusual, but with them, he could pass for a normal person and it was quite pleasant. "You are welcome... I guess, but I didn't want to make it sound like it's your duty... or something. It's noble to live for others but one has to live for themselves too. But I suppose we will learn a lot at this school. And not just how to be heroes. Or their support." he said. not even sounding that bitter about it. An who could've known what will happen until they leave this school? A lot could change in these years. "Kind? Uhm... if you say so. Not sure about that, but I surely am weird." he smirked a little. Raphael started eating, cutting the conversation for the moment. It was always so strange... eating. Amaru could eat, his body had all the necessary parts to process food, but he felt no urge to do so. He did so occasionally, mostly just when he was bored or during some sorts of celebrations. When he was younger he was eating in school, just not to be sorted as the weird one, but he didn't do it anymore.

"Live for themselves..." It was a foreign concept for the blonde, who had always spent his life living for someone. His parents, then his mother only, and now to uphold the family name. Some people would think it was stifling or too heavy a burden but... Raphael liked that feeling. It gave him a sense of existence, like it was okay to be here, it was okay to live, he was a necessary existence. It didn't cross his mind that it could be unhealthy, as that was all he ever knew and his mindset had been cultivated by his upbringing. "Yes, I hope so!" He nodded, even if he did not fully comprehend or agree possibly, it was always good to hear others views and opinions- he did like interaction with others. It was something he only realised recently that he enjoyed as much as he actually did. He laughed at the weird comment. "Well, I suppose one may say a lot of us are weird here... what makes you say you are?" Large lavender eyes fixed on the other teen, Raphael tilting his head in question. He had already finished his food, a side effect of his part time job where he had to eat fast between shooting breaks and also, back when he was at home he wanted to spend as much time as possible looking after his mother when she used to be alive, so bolting down dinner that their housekeeper left everyday was the norm for him.

"Sure! I don't mean being selfish, that's the other extreme, but... well you probably know what I meant," he said. He might have been a smith, but he was no wordsmith to be sure. Of course, Amaru lived a strange life - being a child of criminals, growing up in an orphanage and having no family to speak of. Yes, he had a brother... but he had no contact with him and didn't see him for years. And his parents? Locked never to be released. It wasn't the best thing for your people skills or eloquence. "What is making me think I am weird? Yeah sure, we all have our quirks here, some stranger than others. But there are things that are quite the same for most living beings - like eating. Well, I don't eat. I don't need it... at all. Nor do I need sleep. I guess I am not much fun at parties..." he never actually was at a party. There weren't any reasons to do parties back in the orphanage. "Gives me a lot of time to work through. There are perks of being a battery." he took it from the positive angle. He made fun from it every now and then, though if someone else called him a battery it might end poorly. A sense of humor was another thing that he had a complicated relationship with. Or perhaps he was just a bit tetchy? Well nobody was perfect, but it seemed he could stay in a conversation for some time without causing a faux-pas. It was an improvement for sure!

"Oh really? You don't need rest or food?" Raphael blinked in surpirse. "Then how do you recharge?"
He asked in wonder at the other teen. He always felt like mutation and transformation quirk users defied the laws of nature in ways emitters never could, it was pretty facinating. He did feel like the fact he needed to sleep sometimes meant he passed out in the middle of working on something as he was by no means a night owl, he usually felt uncontrollably sleepy come 9pm.
"I can imagine... as I always feel like there's not enough hours in the day when I am almost falling asleep straight after I come home...."
The blonde added sheepishly. On the bright side, he DID wake up at 5am every morning!

Amaru shook his head. "I literally can't fall asleep. I can lie down, but since I can't close my eyes it's of little use," he explained. He was awake 24/7. Unless he fell unconscious which he was quite able to do. "And I can eat... but I just don't need too. And since I am not really used to it anymore I don't do it. That's probably the reason why you didn't see me yet. One of the places that students meet others is in the cafeteria, but I am not going there." it was just his theory of course. When it came to recharging he knew little. Well, nothing really specific. "I just recharge gradually. I didn't find anything that would make it faster or slower. I don't believe it's affected by... well anything. It just happens. But I can be wrong." there were times when he was afraid he was drawing from a finite pool of energy and once it's gone he will be too. But it didn't appear to be so. "It appears great, right? Having around 8 hours of more free time. And yeah, it mostly is. But being awake while most of the world around you is sleeping can be... taxing. Not to mention it's a bit tricky to sort your thoughts without sleeping. Or so I learned." he tried to explain, not quite sure if it could make sense to someone, who didn't experience it. "I talk too much, don't I?" he chuckled.

"Hmmm I see...I don't think it's that weird, mutation and transformation quirk people have such interesting bodies!" Raphael said brightly. If anyone knew his true lineage, they would see the similarities of this aspect with his brother. Well, there were a few more aspects they shared but currently, all this was something the blonde had no idea about, nor how it would affect his near future. "No, I can understand that mentally it may be taxing for you... have you tried meditating or something like that? Do you find it hard to switch your mind off and relax?" Sleep usually aided in sorting out thoughts of the day, so it made sense this was a setback. He realised that he had been rapid firing questions at the poor boy and faltered. "A-ah I'm sorry! You are not talking too much at all, infact um...I think I am asking too many questions, it's just habit I suppose, I automatically want to know things that could help me help others..."

"Yeah, but I won't lie I am pretty happy that I can pass for a "normal" person. Not that there is anything wrong with looking unusually, but I think some people still have trouble getting used to it." it was and probably would remain a problem for a long time. Especially in elementary school. "I did try meditating, but I am not great at doing nothing. And meditation feels just like that. Usually, I have little problem getting my mind at ease, but sometimes I just need to go out, sit down and perhaps talk to someone. It seems to help." he smiled faintly. Today was one of the days he simply needed something to help him. He thought just sitting outside was what he needed, but it turned out talking to one of his schoolmates was even better despite the fact that they were mostly talking about the very thing that was the problem right now. "I don't mind your questions at all. It's actually a bit refreshing talking about it with someone. Well someone who is not a psychologist. I am just not used to talk this much. I feel slightly out of my element." he was quite opened with that. it felt strange because he never did talk like that in the orphanage, opening to others didn't seem like the best idea when others could easily use that information against you. But this was a hero academy, one of the if not the most prestige one out there... if he couldn't be opened here then where?
