PERSONALITY
LIKES Leopard printHeroes Candy Hide and Go Seek | DISLIKES Leopard printGohan Blood Onions |
RUMOR/SECRET: | A lot of people comment on how similar he looks to a certain villain. |
Kuro is a "problem child." Ever the flight risk, he mistrusts most adults and tests their authority constantly. He isn't much better with children, either, as he gets in fights with those that don't end scared of his erratic behavior. It's rather impressive that he manages all of this despite being nearly non-verbal. While he can speak, he doesn't seem to possess any desire to do so.
He has attention issues, stemming both from his extreme picky eating leading to mild malnutrition and from Gohan's frequent tormenting of the young boy's psyche. He also has frequent nightmares, as well as difficulties with managing his anger. These stem from his traumatic childhood experiences, though those have been suppressed from his waking memory so even his therapist has difficulty helping with those.
Kuro is absolutely terrified of blood; even when he only scrapes his knee, he'll begin bawling until it's patched up and out of sight. The one blessing of this is that he immediately stops fighting other children if he causes them to bleed, or they do likewise to him. He was a similarly bizarre fascination with leopard print objects. Though he's fully unaware of this, his mother wore the pattern often; it has a latent calming effect on him, though it unsettles him a little, too. He'll often stare at people he sees weighing clothes with it, but will get shy and usually run off if they try to approach.
Because he's frequently rejected by both adults and his peers, he's become very sensitive to this. He tends to try to ignore others to avoid his barely concealed anxieties about another rejection. If pressed, he becomes aggressive, trying to reject before he can be rejected. That said, any aggression shown in return reduces him to tears.
All of this aside, Kuro is a big fan of heroes. He doesn't share it with most people, but he sincerely believes one day a hero will be able to defeat Gohan so he won't have to be afraid of the "creature." He also thinks a hero would be more understanding of him and hopes one day to be adopted by one.

BACKGROUND HISTORY
PLACE OF BIRTH/HOMETOWN: | Otaru, Hokkaido, Japan |
PARENTS: | Marrow, #23 Top Most Wanted Villain in Japan, father "Lily", mother, deceased |
SIBLINGS: | -- |
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: | -- |
OTHER: | -- |
Once upon a time, there was a horrible villain. He had a cruel quirk, one that allowed him to manipulate the blood - his own, other's, whatever. His most wretched discovery, though, was that he could manipulate blood while it was still developing within bones; many a hero fell to his tactics, their bodies reduced to puddles of gore. This villain was Marrow.
And, he was in love. His girlfriend - he would have called her wife, if he had not been an enemy of the law - had always been at his side, even back before he'd been a nightmare ruling Sapporo's underworld. Lesser villains ran to his den for protection from the law, knowing he could break the back of all but the most elite of heroes with his hemokinetic abilities, and he rested in his den with his head in her law. Marrow loved Lily more than life itself.
As such, he was very happy when Lily fell pregnant. Marrow began making arrangements to be able to fall back on activities for a little while, to really cement the corruption within the local police force with an internal, quietly covered up coup. An unfortunate accident was arranged for the few remaining officers who resisted his bribery and didn't quake before his thugs.
But, the officers found help in reaching out to other forces, who in turn called heroes. A counter trap was laid and Marrow was arrested. He never even got to see the birth of his son.
Lily, meanwhile, quickly found she had few friends among her boyfriend's underlings without him there to keep them in line with an iron fist. So, heavily pregnant, she fled. She gave birth to her son using her few remaining underworld connections. But, these fleeting alliances would not last. She needed to support her infant son.
Fortunately, Lily was beautiful.
She was all too quickly courted by another thug lord, one who had once seen her upon Marrow's arm and wanted another jewel for his collection. Lily was fine with that. She didn't love this man. She just needed his favor and his money to keep her son fed, clothed, and housed.
He didn't like her son, though.
The new paramour's patience ran out and he told her flatly to either keep the child or keep his favor. Lily kept her son. He was all she had left of the little family she had started with Marrow, after all.
It was rough for Lily, but she begged, borrowed, and stole whatever she needed to keep her son alive. And, just after his fourth birthday, it seemed her luck had turned around. A new job opportunity, this one safe and secure, arose. She got her first payment - all cash - and picked up her son. She told him he'd be getting new winter clothes and toys. She told him that soon they'd have many nice things.
And, this excited her son so much that his quirk manifested for the very first time. Lily didn't know that, though. All she knew was that the sun was suddenly blotted out of the sky and before her stood a frightening beast. She stumbled backwards, realizing only too late that her son was beneath the beast. What was it?! A villain?! She had to save her son from that beast --!
The sight of the decidedly not-illusionary truck breaking through Gohan's trickery and crushing his mother was burned into the child's memories. Already frightened by his sentient quirk's manifesting and activating their illusionary abilities without his knowledge, the sudden death of his mother sent him into shock. His brain, in desperate self protection, buried the memories and sent him into the comfortably numb dissociative state of shock. It would only arise in nightmares he would awake screaming in.
When the child awoke, he was given a new name: Kuro Yoshida. There were attempts to place him in foster care, but with his poor temper, worrisome quirk, and severe emotional issues, he was not an easy fit anywhere. Eventually, a trio of caretakers were assigned to him from the government: one with an anti-illusion quirk, one trained therapist, and one who studies Kuro's quirk.
Kuro currently attends an elementary school for troubled children. He dreams of a hero rescuing him from his "imaginary friend" Gohan.
And... Though he doesn't realize it, his father's escaped prison.

THE ARMORY
Quirk Suppressing Anklet.
Emergency Communicator.
- Resists most physical damage on par with or below what a E rated quirk would be able to administer. It's impossible for Kuro to take this off himself, but it is intentionally designed so that a determined hero (or, villain) could take it off without having to take Kuro's leg off to do so.
- Prevents all emitter expression of Kuro's quirk and prevents Gohan from manifesting. Only Kuro's physical appearance and the internal dialogue from Gohan will remain.
Emergency Communicator.
- Given to him by his support team. It also doubles as a tracking device.
- Resists most physical damage on par with or below what a D rated quirk would be able to administer. In other words, this communicator would likely survive something Kuro himself wouldn't.
- With a push of the button, Kuro is able to contact anyone of the three people assigned to him.
QUIRK & SKILLS
KITSUNETSUKI
TYPE: Emitter
RANK/LEVEL: F
SUMMARY:
One might, at first, think a quirk that is both sentient and capable of creating illusions must primarily psychic in nature. This is untrue for Kitsunetsuki. The "ghost" of the quirk cannot manifest itself outside of Kuro's own thoughts except while using the illusionary abilities of the main quirk; it is no different than if one had a heart that could talk.
At any rate, the illusionary abilities of Kuro are created by manipulating energy. Unstable and plasma-like (fire, electricity), it creates wisps that are able to only be heard and seen. They pose even less of a threat than a cardboard cut out. Their range is miserably immediate as well; they can distort no further out than five feet from Kuro's body. They last only one turn each, and Kuro is only capable of manifesting this once per thread.
The "ghost" of the quirk has been dubbed Gohan by Kuro. Gohan is wrathful to an extreme. He frequently instructs Kuro to do things inappropriate for his age and often harmful to others; this doesn't help with Kuro's mental instabilities at all. That said, Gohan's silence can be temporarily earned whenever Kuro eats rice. Despite experiencing the world only second hand as the Gohan is nothing more than the voice of Kuro's quirk, he apparently loves rice.
Aside from all of this, like many people, Kuro has slightly unusual features that complement his quirk. He has whisker-like features on his face, slit pupils, exceptionally sharp teeth, and thick skin on his palms and soles. Most of these aren't immediately obvious upon first glance.
WEAKNESSES/LIMITATIONS:
Kuro has no control over his quirk and cannot intentionally activate it at all. Gohan has full control over the illusions and the sentience of the quirk doesn't listen to Kuro ever. This is why he wears the quirk suppressing anklet.
Gohan, even when contained inside Kuro's thoughts, frequently distracts, disorients, confuses, and scares Kuro. Therefore, Kuro often seems a little distant, slow to react, and sometimes snaps or becomes emotional for seemingly "random" reasons.
