Standing taller than the average Japanese man with most of his height coming from his legs, Eiichi has never considered himself that tall. He comes from a long line of towering warrior women and is considered more on the short side of the Tate Clan. Goodness knows he has a gang of sisters who tease him about it. Eiichi doesn’t actively know if he’s considered good looking, he has no outwardly view to base himself off but people seem to liken him to an elven prince much to his fleeting annoyance. With pale skin, lithe frame and muscles that are easily obscured beneath the bulk of clothing, it’s not that hard to imagine. He has his father’s small hips and narrow waist and his mother’s hands, long and elegant with carefully maintained nails, favoring light or neutral polish. His androgynous looks don’t help either with high cheekbones, narrow jawline, pouty lips and an elegant nose that all work cohesively to create a basic degree of attractiveness. Hero work does have it’s downfalls and Eiichi’s body is testament to a hard life rifled with scars, most of them focused on his arms but he sports an awful looking scar perpendicular to his left side ribs and the bicep, two matching ones that crisscross over his back and a third over the back of his thighs.
Eiichi’s hair is a dark rose gold, the hereditary color of those of the Tate Quirk. Darker than his sisters, it has become a signature look to have long, following locks and he is held to the same standard. In his younger years, it annoyed him but he has since grown to cherish it and takes pride in maintaining it. Unbound, it falls to the middle of his thighs with bangs that frame his face, the longest lengths falling to the tip of his nose. Most days, Eiichi keeps his hair simple and pulled into a braid or a low tail, when working it’s twisted up into a high ponytail. His eyes are a wisp of his family strong rosy hue, the color so fair, it’s easy to miss the subtle pink flush of them. Most days he wears round, smoky tinted glasses with the habit of keeping his eyes closed to alleviate any outsider discomfort. When out and about, Eiichi does keep his folding white cane on his person though he is often loathed to use it on school property.
During school hours one can usually find Eiichi dressed in comfortable long sleeved, button down shirts, mostly to cover his scars, but to also stay warm. He gets cold easily and relishes in his sweater vests. Don’t knock them till you try them. Though Eiichi doesn’t give much thought to what colors he likes, he does tend to lean toward softer colors. It’s slacks or khaki pants for him with a classic oxford shoe and blazer and will don a tie when it’s needed, otherwise he’s fine without it. He has a very college professor and librarian look to him. When he’s not teaching, Eiichi favors the less traditional attire and will don simple dresses and cardigans and adores being barefoot. A man with particulars, he is never without his father’s pocket watch or his mother’s silk handkerchief. Ever aware of his appearance, Eiichi still carries himself like a warrior; resilient and strong but not overpowering to feel unapproachable. He walks with an elegant poise and has been known to tilt his head toward people speaking, rather than looking at them head on.

RUMOR/SECRET: | Eiichi is the owner of SweetWhisperRiver, an ASMR online channel that has collected quite the following. |
There are three characteristics that form the core of Eiichi; courage, loyalty and heart, each one manifesting in a number of different ways but the greater part of who he is as a person circle back to one of these qualities. He carries himself with quiet assurance and a strength tempered with compassion, speaking softly and eternally polite. He has the mouth of a drunken sailor when he believes himself alone and would be absolutely mortified if anyone found out. Growing up under the rigorous life of an esteemed hero family, he has had numerous expectations to live up to and even today is overshadowed by it. There is an underlying fear that he has fallen so very far from his family image and disappointed so many who’ve put time and effort into him. He tends to keep this particular thought to himself, not wanting to burden others with his selfish worry. Despite growing up under the elite, he still finds himself to be a little uncomfortable in larger social gatherings. Despite that he still has a deceptively good poker face, the soft upturn of a smile gracing his features no matter what’s happening and it’s nigh impossible to tell what he’s thinking.
Eiichi believes in treating people as equals, no matter what side they’re on and it’s this sense of fair play he lives by. Often working with people who are willing to lay down their lives in the defense of their home and others, he feels it’s unjustly to do anything less himself and values skills and capabilities rather than appearances or rumors. He has proven he has the heart of a lion over and over again and the few who have fought along Aegis know him as a fierce warrior on the battlefield. Eiichi has always stood his ground and faced trials and tribulations, believing if you kept moving forward you’d eventually start running and never stop. Ready to meet a challenge head on, he isn’t one to shirk his duties nor shy away from a tough job, even so far as to putting his life on the line so others don’t. Making decisions based on sentiment rather than facts is a both a great weakness and strength, but Eiichi has never seen it as a fault. He believes the world should be fair and just and that people need to be protected from those who abuse and wield power to harm. He isn’t there to judge them, but bring them down and let the court of justice handle it from there. Don’t mistake him for being a pushover though, he is a stubborn man, sometimes too stubborn for his own good.
Behind the hero, Eiichi is a little old fashion with simple likes and desires. He is particularly picky about his belongings, everything has a certain spot and he doesn’t like things moved or changed. Nothing gets his goat more than having something out of place and not knowing what. Despite that he’s a quiet, unassuming man, happy to spend his evenings going over lessons and knitting with soft music playing in the background. He sees the beauty in everything, returning it with care and love. He’s a tough but fair teacher, ever watchful over his students and takes his job quite seriously, ensuring the absolute best for his pupils. He doesn’t deem himself a pacifist as he’s been known to tug an ear or two to get his point across. He’s also been likened to the dreaded mom friend with his fellow teachers, but can’t help but look after them all in the same manner as his classes. Eiichi wears his heart on his sleeve and not one to cowl his emotions, he finds speaking from the heart does him good. Eiichi is a man of his word and his namesake, aware of his power and is conscientious in how he uses it. Full of kindness and drive to make things right, he isn’t one for the limelight despite his widely known family and remains modest almost shy in and out of uniform. Considerate, responsible and straightforward, Eiichi is willing to do whatever it takes for the wellbeing of mankind.

Eiichi’s family lineage of women warriors has existed for centuries, originating during the Kamakura period when a military government was established. They were former courtesans of the Emperor trained as Onna Bugeisha, they helped protect the Hojo family and later the following Shoguns for nearly a century. History became a little muddled around the time the Tate Clan became a proper name. There isn’t much in public history books about them, though generations have kept a large number of records privately. If asked today, many women went on to become lords over their own homes, some taught schools and a few remained in the military until the Edo period. Tate women generally broke a lot of traditions, refusing to bow under the male centric Samurai. Eiji’s lineage broke away from the government all together, settling down to teach in martial arts schools and survived the fading era of the Onna Bugeisha.
The more modern Tate families came from established families and high class elite, well known for their work before heroing became a thing. Eiichi’s great grandmother was the founder of what would eventually became the Tate Clan heroes, working private security and protection against the Yukaza before venturing into the heroing business when it started becoming popular, just as his grandmother was born. She was raised under the same rigorous tutelage, paving the way for his mother Eiji and her sisters to fully encompass being Pro Heroes.
Eiichi was born a twin, his sister Eo sadly passed away in childbirth, and was the last child of Eiji. Originally Tate women didn’t marry, only seeking out a thoroughly screened partner for complimentary Quirk and genetics to father their children. Some of Eiichi’s sisters have since grown out of this severe regiment, marrying while keeping their surname to carry on to future generations. Eiichi never met his father before his passing and has only tentatively talked with his father’s siblings in his youth. Women tended to outnumber men in the Tate lineage as evident by how many sisters Eiichi has and he was a bit of a surprise. But, most shocking was the pink tuft of hair he sported. Normally women carried the recessive Quirk, passed down from generation to generation and while there are a few mentions of men in the family history, even fewer have ever been important enough to be recorded by name.
Early on, Eiji knew there was something off about her son. He had a penchant for rubbing his face, digging fingers into his pale pink eyes and was often forced to wear little, soft gloves to prevent from hurting himself. Eiichi was diagnosed with Leber Congenital Amaurosis at the age of five months, a previously undiscovered genetic defect that could only come to fruition if both parents carried it. His mother was devastated, no one knowing she choose Namihiko out of love instead of family tradition and would silently blame herself for the rest of her life.
Still, Eiji was a soldier first and mother second and her son would not be pitied nor raised any differently from her daughters. The Tate household was an unusual bunch, hero training started early in life, meditation a daily regiment for even the youngest in order to fully understand and harness their Quirk before the first signs of it. Training was down from the home, Eiji able to control what her children learned with private tutors who worked with their regular education in private schools. Eiichi was no exception, though he went to a special school for the blind he was expected to perform the usual combat and martial arts training along side his sisters. With discipline and coaching, he learned to rely on his other senses, opening up a new world and insight into his Quirk.
While his home was run with military strictness and while Eiichi was loved on and treated fairly, it was still extremely tough and stifling. He didn’t have many friends outside of his family and whenever he did become close with anyone, his sisters had the annoying habit of chasing them off all in the pretense of them not being good enough for their little brother. Eiichi felt isolated from the world around him, his family name a burden rather than a proud status and spent countless days on his own, playing quietly on the family’s expansive estate. It’s there he learned to enjoy nature and the wildlife, taking a special interest in the local fowl. The Uguisu were a favorite, their early morning singing a treat. Any requests for a pet were denied as there was no time to dawdle on trivialities.
As Eiichi got older, he was expected to attend Hero functions and galas like his sister’s all did. Eiji would show off her children and regale their stories to the parties of the elite and business moguls, none more proud of them than their mother. He didn’t have the heart or courage to tell her he found these events to be boring and demeaning. Eiichi endured them for the family and during one particular thrilling extravaganza of heroes, Eiichi met his best friend Mika, a girl his age from a new hero family.
From day one they were thick as thieves and nigh inseparable, able to talk about their families, frustrations and struggles. They were best friends throughout elementary and hero school, never far from one another. Eiichi excelled, easily becoming class rep in every grade, he was charismatic and smart while never losing his empathy and understanding of his family name. Eiichi surpassed expectations, entering UA on skill alone, very aware that his mother could have easily gotten him in on name alone, but he wanted to prove he could represent his family on his own. He certainly did when he won second at the first Sports Festival his first year and wont first place the next. In previous years, several of his sisters placed as well and the Tate name was well known. It humbled him, making him all the more self conscious and if it hadn’t been for Mika, Eiichi might have been fallen into a very different role.
In his third year, Mika confessed her feelings but Eiichi couldn’t give her what she wanted. It pained him, wanting nothing more to stay at his best friends side and while they remained friends, the dynamics had shifted. After high school, the two slowly drifted apart, Mika heading to a University while Eiichi remained with his family, finally old enough to patrol with his sisters without a provisional license. It was the real deal and while he appreciated the hero agencies interested in him, his loyalty was to his family and the Tate Clan.
Hero work became his focus, something to throw himself into completely and fully. He worked along his family and for years it was all he did. The young male Tate member quickly became a popular hero amongst the civilians and all too often he’d be tormented by one of his sisters reading interviews and love confessions sent in pastel pink letters spritzed with perfume. It was entirely too much for him to handle. Eiichi didn’t take breaks or vacations, filling in when one of his sister’s was sick or pregnant. He happily took the roll of uncle, showering his nieces and nephews with gifts of irresponsible toys and treats, spoiling each and every one rotten. And for a while, his life was good.
Until he ran in Mika. It’d been years since they’d spoken, Mika all but cutting off contact with him after high school. Eiichi had pursued her before realizing she didn’t want to be found. He always figured he’d be thrilled to see her again, wanting nothing more than to pick up their friendship where it’d been left off. Not devastated to find her on the other side of the law. She begged him to let her go, for old times sake and with a heavy heart, he turned her into the police. He testified in court, appealing for a fair trial and rehab, speaking on Mika’s behalf but knew he had to step away once the trail was over. If his friend wanted to turn a new leaf, she’d have to find her own path. And if she did, he’d be waiting for her.
In the meantime, Eiichi did what he did best, work. He threw himself back into heroing, buckling down even more to the point, his mother worried about her youngest. Eiji had retired from the business, but maintained a teaching status for her granddaughters. ((More stuff here I guess?))
Eiichi was just shy of his twenty seventh birthday when he was gravely injured on patrol. It’d been a regular night, nothing out of the ordinary and he was finishing up with a couple of local heroes when they got a call about an armed robbery gone bad at a nearby bank. The security guards had been killed and hostages were totted like protection with unwieldy demands made. Hostage negotiations had fallen through and civilians were systematically being executed. There was no time and Eiichi lead his team inside, coming against a gang of villains. The heroes were able to subdue and capture the villains without losing any more lives and as the group was being totted out when an previously hidden villain came out of the vault. Eiichi threw a barrier over him and the villain just as he detonated his shrapnel explosion Quirk, taking the brunt of it to protect the slew of officers, heroes and civilians.
Aegis was rushed to the hospital, dying twice in the back of the ambulance, each time brought back before he was rushed into surgery. He survived and took a long break from hero work to recoup, taking the time to rethink his choices. Physical therapy was a tough, long road and he feared he might not be able to walk properly, let alone return to the field. He spent many nights sitting quietly on the edge of his mother’s home, listening to the quiet murmurings of the birds.
When he was physically able to get around on his own without his sisters hovering over him, Eiichi made the choice to revisit his old hero school. It’d been a compelling tug to return to a simpler past, the wave of nostalgia too great to ignore. It was there he found a love of teaching, walking the hallways surrounded by the voices of students, reminiscent of his youth with Mika and how his teachers helped shape him into the hero he was. It stirred a longing he’d ignored of favor of becoming a hero and with the best wishes of his sisters, Eiichi publically retired from hero work, maintaining his status on the down low. He could never become an underground hero, far too infamous for it, but settled into a teacher role once he was officially cleared for it.

THE ARMORY
Hero Suit: Constructed and refined over the years, Eiichi wears the signature uniform of his family. A form fitting black bodysuit with grey trimming serves as the base of his outfit with matching hand guards. It’s constructed out of Nomex, Kevlar and Titanium fibers and provides a medium level of resistance to physical impacts. It is flame retardant, protecting him from both fire and the heat as well as being chemical and radiation resistance. The Kevlar and Titanium provides him protection from projectiles and firearms, while still allowing him to remain agile and flexible with less armor weight. Over it, he dons a white, hip length montsuki haori with his family’s crest on the back and umanori pants, edged and lined in a dark pink. The haori has a hidden intricate mural of the first Tate women as Onna Bugeshi on a battlefield. He pairs it a matching deep pink fukuro obi with an elaborate tateya musubi knot. A purely ornamental netsuke of a white butterfly hangs on it in memory of his twin. He has forgone traditional for modern footwear with sturdy, slip on black boots. A small blade hidden in the right heel of his boot that can be released by a trigger inside the sole. What’s mistaken for a simple, black earring is a wireless communicator to keep in contact with.
QUIRK & SKILLS
SHIELD
TYPE: Emitter
RANK/LEVEL: A
SUMMARY: Like his mother and sisters, Eiichi possesses the ability to create crystalline constructs from his personal energy. He draws upon his physical strength and mental fortitude channeling though the ley lines of his body, manifesting it into the physical realm via his tear ducts, appearing as translucent pink tears. He can then forge the tears into what he needs, manipulating the shape with carefully crafted hand sigils.
His most iconic construct created is a shield. Slightly concave, discus shape in design, it has a pink, semi translucent look to it as if made from rose quartz with a precise geometrical pattern one would liken to a crystal. It can vary in size from palm size to the size of a car door, depending on need. More often than not, Eiichi creates one just shy of three feet in diameter he can wear on his arm and use for offensive and defensive. As it was his second construct created, it is extremely hardy, able to deflect a magnitude of weapons ranging from bladed to armor piercing firearms, deflect energy, mental and physical Quirk attacks of his ranking and lower and absorb the kinetic energy from physical impacts. Despite its strength, it’s relatively light, weighing a little more than a bag of sugar. It’s heavily discouraged against touching it without Eiichi’s awareness, attuned to his own signature, and can occasionally have a hefty backlash. Most of the time it’ll crumble into nothing but can shatter in a wave of kinetic energy that can knock a full grown man off his feet. As it is a apart of him, he can mentally call it back to him should he toss or drop it and it will return as if snatched up by an invisible force. If broken, it can be remade many times over.
His second construct is basically a larger version of his shield, a barricade for capturing or protection. It is a geometrically shaped half sphere that uses it’s own structure for support, making it a hardy barrier to come against. He creates it the same way as his shield and traces out the size it should be on the ground. From there it’ll form and come down to the area he’s traced out, creating a bubble of semi translucent crystal. It can be a little hard to see in and out of, everything is a little distorted due to its shape. It’s not air tight, allowing for air, water or gasses to seep under it. It can withstand more than what his personal shield can; physical attacks, bladed, some energy based attacks and firearms up to anti tank missiles.
A little unknown ability of Eiichi’s Quirk is what he calls Sensory Safeguard. He is very careful about who he shares it with and thus only fellow teachers, a few Pro Heroes and his family know about it. Indistinguishable to the naked eye, it is an invisible shield like projection he uses to map out the area around him. Eiichi can set up a perimeter by marking himself and objects with tears that act as anchor points and like a spider web, he can sense the most subtle of movements when it’s disturbed. He can use this to track people, gauge the size of an area and the objects within. Sensory Safeguard doesn’t act like his shields, people and objects can pass easily through it like normal.
WEAKNESSES/LIMITATIONS: In order for his Quirk to work, it requires tears and having dry eyes would be absolutely detrimental. They have to be natural and pure, imitation or an additive will nullify his Quirk. It has to be a full tear too and requires skin contact, if it were to be absorbed by material or a tissue, it loses its ability to become a construct. Requires a great deal of energy and endurance and Aegis has had to keep himself in top shape physically and mentally. There are no days off for him and spends at least five hours a day in meditation and training. Unlike his sisters who can vary their constructs, Eiichi is strictly shields and is only able to weld one at a time, it is either his personal shield or a barricade. Safeguard can be used during both as it is a secondary attribute, though with some strain. He works best in close range combat, though he can throw and toss his shield, it’s better suited for personal fighting.
Eiichi’s personal shield can be created and used in the same post and will hold its form and strength for 5 posts. After that, it may last an additional 3 posts but break down in strength in 1/4ths if continually attacked. If used in tandem with Safeguard, his shield will last up to 4 posts and break down by ½ each post afterwards. Faster, if the attacking force is greater than his own. Can be reconstructed from a new tear in the next post. Non blood related people cannot weld his shield, it will usually break down into pieces or become intangible upon extended period of touch.
Barricade requires a little more concentration but still just as fast to construct, able to be created and used in one post. However, these last 3 posts before breaking down completely in an additional 2 posts and requires 2 to 3 posts to recoup and do again. The size of the barrier affects both the structure and length of durability and the biggest Eiichi can create is roughly the size of a large vehicle. Not meant for long term use and while he can bulk up the strength of it, it breaks down twice as fast. Requires him to be inside the barrier for it to work.
To switch between Shield and Barricade requires one post in between and vice versa.
While Safeguard can be kept up indefinitely, Eiichi has a few permanent ones around the school, it can be tricked. It’s hard to distinguish individual shapes if close to each other and if a person remains still they can effectively hide right in front of him. Though invisible, walking through Safeguard can be felt like walking into a spider web, alerting a person to it. One can evade his detection by breaking anchor points, severing the connecting lines that make it up and therefore shrinking or destroying Safeguard in it’s entirety. At max, his range is 25 feet radius. Falling unconscious makes all of his shields vanish instantly.
Eiichi can suffer from a melody of after effects, severe headaches come with prolonged use, especially if he doesn’t have time to mediate for the day. Mental exhaustion coupled with being emotionally drained, leaves him lethargic and apathetic the next day. Makes for teaching that much harder when you’re standing around in a fog. No matter what, Eiichi will have a low grade headache even after an easy scrap. Susceptible to any sort of energy negation Quirk. Eiichi is nearly 100% blind and though he may sense faint shadows against darkness, he’s still hyper sensitive to light and adds to his headaches.
COMBAT TRAINING
RANK/LEVEL: A
SUMMARY: Eiichi grew up in the not so typical household where combat training and breakfast went hand in hand. For almost three decades, he has trained with military focus, subjected to demanding physical and psychological drills, endurance, combat training and education in order to bring out the full capabilities of his Quirk and physical fitness. Today he is a master combatant, mastering several martial arts styles such as Jujutsu, Okinawan Kobudo tinbu-rochin (Shield and spear), and kickboxing. He is well versed in armed and unarmed fighting, finding his niche in close quarters combat where he is just as a handy with a blade as he is with his fist.
Eiichi is a master shield fighter, using his constructs to the bash enemies and block attacks, he is also able to throw and toss his shield with near perfect aim. An expert marksman, Aegis is able to accurately throw his shield at multiple targets, ricocheting it off people and other objects and have it return to his hand in a boomerang like fashion. While he is well versed in the latest of weaponry and firearms, he prefers his shield to a gun or sword.
He has been trained in the more unconventional survival tactics such as evading capture, stealth and escape arts to living on the land with nothing but the clothes on your back. He is able to perform basic combat first aid such as stopping and stemming blood flow from basic injuries and binding wounds. Urban and disaster survival often go hand in hand and he can easily navigate his way around the surrounding cities as he has personally memorized maps and landscapes by step counting and landmarks by smell and touch.
STRATEGIST
RANK/LEVEL: B+
SUMMARY: Ever evolving training has made him a skilled strategist, he dreams of battle strategies in his sleep, creating scenarios to play out in any event. Eiichi is able to set goals and see them through, mobilize resources and execute actions with a military precision. Adapt at quick changes, refitting a strategy to fit the situation with ease. He can lead a squad of Pro Heroes as easily as he can a classroom of unruly students with the same gentle firm hand. While one may presume Eiichi has an eidetic memory, with his skill of calling up an abundance of auditory information at the drop of a hat, it is rather a learned ability rather than innate. Playing chess against his sisters helped fortify this skill by memorizing the complexity of moves and track positions. He carried this over into allowing him to memorize entire sections of cities, only needing only a brief refresher course before heading out.
AWARENESS
RANK/LEVEL: A+
SUMMARY: Eiichi’s hyper awareness of himself and the world around him is aided by his photographic memory. Meditation also helps with his focus in his Quirk and keeping himself aware, letting himself keep calm and his mind in vivid form to help him focalize. His blindness has played a part as well, losing one sense to compensate with the others. Eiichi gives off the appearance of having superhuman heightened senses past the normal human scope but, in reality it’s a couple decades of dedicated training and drills to keep him in top form. He is able to distinguish a great deal of sounds from the different ways his student’s walk to the change in someone’s breathing when they lie. His other senses of smell, touch and taste have also been finely tuned and he can pinpoint someone’s perfume in a room and how they’ve been there by the intensity of it for example. It’s extremely hard to get anything past him, able to multitask his senses into giving him the upper hand.
LANGUAGES
RANK/LEVEL: B+
SUMMARY: Eiichi speaks his birth language Japanese and with private tutors during his youth has become fluent in speaking English and Mandarin Chinese, two of the larger languages of the world. He keeps up on it on his spare time. He can also read and understand Japanese braile and has quite the collection of books in his room and is more than happy to lend out.
