PERSONALITY
LIKES ImprovingHelping Friendships Video Games | DISLIKES DisrespectLaziness Hypocrites Selfishness |
An outspoken, willful, and determined person - Edelgard is a huge advocate of being true to oneself and doing everything within reason to become a better person. He strives to wake up tomorrow slightly improved than he was the day before every day and his actions and attitude reflect this. Despite his seemingly overbearing personality, he is actually quite a good listener and is respectful of boundaries - invisible or otherwise.
There is no particular reason for this, other than his core belief that 'it is what Heroes should strive for'. His lineage of both royalty and prestigious Heroes is recognized and respected, but it largely isn't a driving factor in his life. He chose to become better not because his family is famous, but because it is the 'correct' thing to do.
He is quite dedicated to his tasks, never showing up late and dutifully listening to authority when it has a logical root. Outside of this, Edelgard can be considered a 'nerd' - one who holds a love for all things video game-related and one who still has an action figure collection.

"Powerful! Popular! Prestigious! That's Edelgard."
From birth, it seems Edelgard was destined for a lifer greater than that of 'normality' - a union between a long-standing noble bloodline and a well-renowned professional Hero between a pair who hailed from two sides of the planet was both mind-boggling and attention-grabbing. Spending his early years in London, cushioned in a family estate, Edelgard spent most of his time playing pretend. He, like most children, grew an infatuation with the profession of Heroism and what it entailed, and with a father who was an active practitioner of it, his enthusiasm only grew larger as time passed. He was sociable with any person he came into contact with, forming friendships with fellow nobility and 'normal' people alike - always known for his odd sense of fashion and boisterous personality.
Ettiquite classes (which went as far as including foreign languages) were quite common, and the young boy was polite enough when first meeting somebody - but never quite picked up on being 'refined' wherever he went. Eventually, duty called - and Toyrou was summoned back to Japan to deal with a rising influx of crime. Twelve at the time, Edelgard was no stranger to Japanese - seeing as it was his father's culture, but was understandably sad giving up the life he had in England. Japan was a new opportunity, however, and such a place quickly grew on him - along with the chance that he could attend of the most prestigious Hero Academies in the world: U.A. High.
A combination of his status, determination, Quirk, and natural intelligence (along with a letter of recommendation from one of his father's close friends) assured his attendance, and Edelgard flourished in the environment. Two years have come and gone, and now he is in the final stretch of education - but with so much left to learn, who knows where life will take him next?

THE ARMORY
Hero Suit: An airtight, metallic suit made for both defense and mobility - allowing Edelgard to 'swim' through liquified terrain with its' built-in 'air-catcher' (a slot on the back of his neck which closes automatically when submerged) which traps enough oxygen for two posts of continuous underground escapades. The suit is also durable, mimicking Kevlar in its' efficiency.
QUIRK & SKILLS
LIQUIDATE
TYPE: Emitter
RANK/LEVEL: C+
SUMMARY: Liquidate's main power comes in its' ability to turn solid objects into a liquid state. This works on anything solid - ice, metal, or even the ground he treads is fair game. The objects consistency becomes akin to a thick mud or quicksand, trapping and sinking people and objects within. Either making contact with the liquified area or leaving direct contact with him or other affected sections will cause whatever was liquified to immediately return to its' previous state of hardness. With this, he is capable of launching 'mudballs' with great force which then harden into dangerous projectiles.
People trapped in the quicksand-like substance will only sink up to their torso's midsection, unless for whatever reason they happen to be less dense than a normal person. This doesn't mean its' easy to escape, however, and rapid movements can cause people to sink deeper in. Liquidated objects such as clothing will still 'stick' to whatever they were previously attached to and not slid off like a true liquid, though it can be manually moved aside. He can liquidated material up to the size of an average van in one go, after which he must concentrate on a new area to either start or spread the Quirk's effect.
A liquified surface's appearance doesn't typically change unless there is movement to disturb it, akin to calm water appearing like a 'mirror'. This makes it useful for setting traps or turning things within range liquid unexpectedly. Due to the nature of his Quirk, as long as he has air, he can also 'swim' through and underneath liquified terrain - escaping from foes or ambushing them. Liquidate works through contact - meaning it 'spreads' from the point of Edelgard that is touching something and can extend through contact with other parts of the ground up to ten meters in all vertices. Past three meters in any direction, however, the ground takes some time for the chain effect to reach it - taking a full post before dissolving.
WEAKNESSES/LIMITATIONS:
Liquidate's first major drawback is that it is only effective in a relatively small area, and against groundborne targets. Anybody that can even hover slightly above the ground is immune to the Quirk's main effect. Any person who can create substances or grab onto a solid object outside of the Quirk's influence can also lift themselves out, as the liquid's consistency is comparable to mud or thick quicksand. Being that it is still 'liquid' - electricity conducts extremely well through any affected material and can serve to counter his 'swimming' technique.
Liquidate cannot activate on living things.
Secondly, is that turning liquified material into a solid cannot 'trap' somebody - if someone (Edelgard included) happens to be inside a liquified surface when turned back, they simply get pushed back to the surface. Additionally, if Edelgard even falls unconscious, all liquified surfaces turn back to normal.
Lastly, affected surfaces will only stay liquified for three posts - and afterward will automatically revert to being 'solid' and have a two post 'cooldown' before they can be liquified again.

FIGHTING
RANK/LEVEL: C-
SUMMARY: Trained and proper usage of one's limbs and force when in combat, is a general skill any aspiring Hero should have. Working around his Quirk can be a bit odd, but with Edelgard's unique movements he makes do.
LINGUIST
RANK/LEVEL: C+
SUMMARY: Edelgard can currently speak: Japanese, English, and French fluently - and is currently starting to learn Chinese and Italian.
TECHIE
RANK/LEVEL: D+
SUMMARY: Fiddling around with electronics since childhood has given Edelgard a good deal of self-taught skills. Nothing to write home about, but as far as IT goes, he's usually in the best in a room of teens.
