FC NAME (SERIES): | Alvin (Tales of Xillia) |
Leon stands just under six feet tall with neck length, brown hair and cold grey eyes. His body is a fairly lean build with a slight muscle tone gained from regular physical activity. His facial features are on the sharper side and he has rather pale skin, two features that combine to put the emphasis of his face on his notably intense gaze. The area around his right hand is covered in scar tissue, formed as a result of a severe burn injury. Small, vent-like protrusions are scattered across his body, acting as potential outlets for his quirk. There is one on top of each wrist, two on the back of his forearm, two on his upper arm, three going down the middle of his back, two each on the upper and lower leg, and one on the back of each heel.
In terms of clothing, Leon has a fondness for long coats and wears them almost constantly, most frequently being seen in a brown duster. Besides the jacket, he's not too picky about what he wears, tending to air on the side of comfort with simple T shirts and loose fitting jeans. As a rule he always carries at least one knife on him, clipped to left side of his belt or tucked away in the sleeves of his coat.

PERSONALITY
LIKES Meeting peopleRunning Drawing Cats | DISLIKES CorruptionBeing Wasteful Thunder People not putting in the effort |
RUMOR/SECRET: | Has been banned from at least a dozen restaurants in Tokyo |
At first glance, Leon seems to be a fairly average teenager, unhappy with the situations he's found himself in, but doing his best to get by. He loves to talk to people and spends most his time hanging out with friends or pursuing his hobbies. He tries his hardest to work toward anything he sets his mind to, and refuses to back down when it comes to upholding his principals. He is generally rather level headed, but can be a bit explosive if and when he does get heated. He does come across as a bit of a smart ass at times, but on the whole, most people who know him consider him to be a rather pleasant person to be around.
Beneath the surface is a much more complicated and angry individual. He sees the world as twisted and corrupted, having himself been abandoned by the systems that were meant to protect him. He steals, lies, and cheats to make it through life, but only does so according to his own personal code of honor. He may frequently be on the wrong side of the law, but he isn't what most people would consider truly evil, only ever targeting those he blames for the warping of society with his acts of villainy. In most cases this means going after the rich and powerful, robbing them of all they're worth while avoiding catching up any innocents in the process. By his own definition of innocent, of course.
When at work, Leon presents himself as a fairly cautious individual. He does his best to stick to the plan and is notably attentive to details in the world around him, a trait that allows him to be rather adaptable to changing situations. He is quite proud of the skills he's attained through his life, and those that insult his capabilities often draw his ire. This combination has a tendency to make him a bit overconfident in his own abilities, and when he does fall short his pride doesn't let him back down easily.
Leon goes to great lengths to keep these two parts of his life separate, keeping his criminal activities hidden from those around him. He is very careful to never show his face when he's 'on the job', and to always have an alibi on hand. He tries to avoid using his quirk when there are people around, and in the rare cases when its unavoidable, he tries to keep things as low key as possible to prevent a trace back to his more infamous persona.

"So you want to hear about me, eh? Well whatever, I guess we've got plenty of time on our hands, right? Where do I start... well... I didn't have what most people call a 'comfortable' upbringing. I was an orphan, never even knew my parents, not sure I care anymore. My older brother Nico and I lived on the streets; he did his best to take care of me and I did my best not to cause him any trouble. We made money taking odd jobs, selling scrap, begging when we needed to... Things definitely got tough, but we still got by, at least for awhile."
"I was probably around 8 years old when Nico started getting sick. Bastard kept trying to play it off like it was nothing, but I could tell. After a week or so it got bad enough that he couldn't move around anymore; high fever, awful cough, he had the works. Whenever we got sick before it was just a matter of finding some cheap medicine to calm it down, but this time none of it was working. Took him to a friend of ours that used to be a doctor to get him checked out, told us he had some disease that I couldn't ever pronounce and that he needed real medicine badly. Trouble is, the real stuff is pretty damn expensive, even when you're not living in a shack."
"I started begging people for money, went out of my way to go where the richer people hang around a few times... I can still remember the looks on their faces, like I was some sort of pest that didn't belong there. It became obvious pretty fast that I wasn't going to earn enough money like that, so I changed tactics, started stealing, which was... far more effective. People don't like to look at the nasty side of society, so they tended to ignore me on purpose, made my job much easier. Started getting together a good chunk of cash... and, well... I nearly got there."
"..."
"Sorry... So uh... After that, as you can probably imagine, I sure as hell wasn't going back to begging. I still did jobs to get some pocket money, but I started just kinda taking whatever I needed. I was pretty good at it honestly, almost never got caught and always made a clean getaway even when they did notice, well, before I ran into her at least. I picked the pockets of some lady, looked like a foreign aristocrat or something. 'Thought I'd gotten away completely unnoticed, but when I check my pockets, the wallet I took was gone, and so was mine. A few seconds later she shows up in front of me. Raelyn Kastavel, apparently some big 'master thief' from overseas that went by the name Zephyr. She was moving to Japan with her daughter, and I guess maybe she felt bad for me or something, said I had talent and decided to take me in."
"That was when I was around 11 years old, been living with them ever since. The old lady's kinda crazy honestly, but I think she's a good person, you know, for a thief. Her daughter's a pretty bright spark too, she's the one that made my suit. At some point a few years after I start living there, the old lady decides to start passing on what she knows, teaching me how to be a better thief; where to hide, what targets to pick, who to stay away from, all that fun stuff. Her lessons are honestly just as crazy as she is though, I mean who the hell makes you to rob a store just so that you can learn how to pick locks?"
"Anyway, been at that for a couple years now, starting to really get a feel for this stuff, know what I mean? Things don't always go as planned, but hey, can't say I'm ever bored... Besides, there isn't much I wouldn't do to get even with this world...... And that's what brought us to here, just two 'gents in a cell. Look, don't get me wrong, it's been fun, but honestly, I think its about time we got out of here, don't you? What, did you think I've just been twiddling my thumbs the whole time I've been talking? 'Door's already unlocked."

THE ARMORY
Costume:
Leon's hero costume consists of a pitch black body suit with a tinted visor that hides his face from view. The suit is flame retardant, though not quite fireproof. Exhaust ports in the suit are positioned over the vents across his body and act to focus the jets of smoke he can produce, effectively increasing the pressure by 50% at the cost of reduced production. The suit is permeable to the smoke he releases, allowing him emit smoke from his skin even if it isn't directly exposed. Additionally, small channels on the interior of the suit are capable of transporting chemical dyes to areas of increased heat, giving him the ability change the color of his smoke while he's wearing the costume. Other than adjusting color, a set of controls also allow him to alter the density of the smoke, from a fine, barely noticeable haze to the full thick wall of ash. Leon's helmet is equipped with a thermal imaging system that allows him to see while within one of his clouds, and a gas mask-like filter that helps prevent him from asphyxiating himself.
Pocket knives x 2
9mm pistol with 2 spare clips
A set of lockpicks
An encrypted smartphone
QUIRK & SKILLS
Pyroclasm
TYPE: Mutation
RANK/LEVEL: C+
SUMMARY:
Leon's body has a fire burning inside of it, one that constantly eats away at him and leaves behind nothing but ash and cinders. His stomach has effectively been replaced by what can only be described as a furnace, the byproducts of which come in the form of ash and flame.
Smokestack: Leon has the ability to produce a thick, black clouds of ash, which can be emitted through the pores of his skin or shot out in pressurized jets through vent like openings that are scattered across his body. The smoke is released at a hot enough temperature to cause heavy burns on contact, though it quickly cools to less hazardous levels. This ash is largely normal in terms of its physical properties, though these can be altered to some degree by his costume. In his current state, Leon can pump out enough ash to cover a 10x10x10 area per post.
Steam Engine: The jets that cover Leon's body enable him to produce more instantaneous effects with his quirk, capable of forming a pressurized stream that travels for about 20 feet before tapering out. Leon primarily uses these jets of smoke to produce thrust, allowing him to move faster and maneuver more easily. At his current level he can produce a sizable amount of force, effectively allowing him to keep pace with vehicles just below highway speeds.
Backdraft: By forcing one of his vents close, Leon can build up large amounts of pressure and heat within himself. While obviously a dangerous thing to do, this practice can increase the impact of his quirk by a large degree. When released, the stored energy explodes outward with greatly increased temperature and force. A lance of flame stretches out half the distance that his vents can usually cover, and a thick stream of ash continues out to about twice the normal distance. In addition to the normal damage Leon takes from a sealed vent, such a release causes the vent in question to get 'burned out' for a short period of time, preventing it from being used for a period of five posts. Under normal circumstances, the force behind this technique is roughly double of Leon's standard output, though it can technically be pushed a bit further if he is willing to cause more significant damage to himself.
WEAKNESSES/LIMITATIONS:
Leon's quirk comes with a number of drawbacks to keep it in check. First and foremost, the smoke he creates is just as dangerous to him as it is to everyone else; without protection he can easily suffer from oxygen deprivation while within one of his clouds. Secondly, when producing ash, the high temperature of the released gases still have an effect on him. His skin possesses a resistance to the latent heat, but repeated use will lead to mild to severe burns around the areas where the smoke is released. This danger increases tremendously if the vents on his body manage to get clogged while he's using his quirk. The trapped gasses can cause a large increase in internal body temperature, as they are never cooled by the outside air. If the smoke is not released soon enough, he can easily burn himself out from the inside, sustaining tremendous internal damage in the process. In a similar vein, water tends to have a fairly significant effect on Leon's ability to use his quirk. When his skin is soaked, the pores of his skin aren't able to properly release ash or flame, thus neutralizing most of his abilities until he can dry off. He is theoretically still able to produce enough heat to evaporate water on his skin, but doing so takes up an entire post where he cannot otherwise use his quirk. Finally, Leon's quirk needs a large amount of fuel to be used properly, almost like keeping a fire stoked at all hours of the day. His body burns through carbohydrates at a greatly accelerated rate, even when he is not actively using his quirk. He needs to sustain a carb intake of about four times that of an average person to keep the fire going; not eating enough will lead to a carbohydrate deficiency, draining his energy and lowering the output of his quirk to about 10% of his normal abilities.

Stealth
RANK/LEVEL: C+
SUMMARY:
Having grown up as an orphan in the back alleys of Tokyo, Leon has gotten rather used to making himself scarce, an ability that came in handy when he started to turn to thieving. Through a mixture of acquired skill and shear attentiveness, he knows how to keep himself out of sight, how to avoid the senses of the average person, and perhaps most importantly, how to avoid drawing unwanted attention to himself.
Parkour
RANK/LEVEL: C
SUMMARY:
Sometimes you can't always sneak your way out of a situation, and even when you can, sometimes you just get caught. On these occasions, you need to know how to run away. The whole aim of Parkour, also known as free running, is to get from one point to another in a complex environment in the fastest and most efficient way possible. The result is a method of movement that is both fluid and often visually impressive, as practitioners effortlessly vault over obstacles or scale walls. Leon picked up these skills gradually after he started his life of thievery, quickly finding that moving through obstacles rather than around them made it much harder for people to catch him. Having honed his abilities over the years, he can fairly easily pick out effective paths through a given environment, and possesses both the flexibility and athletic skill to navigate said paths.
Sleight of Hand
RANK/LEVEL: D+
SUMMARY:
A thief's greatest tools are not any particular piece of equipment they carry, but a set of particularly dexterous fingers that are made even more potent by a sharp mind. Leading people's attention, slipping in close without drawing alarm, lightening pockets, working a set of lock picks: this skill covers the basics of what any aspiring thief needs to get by. From his time working the street, Leon has gained enough experience to snag wallets from the less attentive, lead people's attention, and pick most lower tech locks. Simple locks only take a post to get open, while the more complicated tumblers can take as many as three or four. Electronic locks are beyond his current abilities.
Handguns
RANK/LEVEL: F-
SUMMARY:
Even in a world of heroes and superpowers, guns still have their uses. Not everyone can take a bullet, and the threat of one is often enough to dissuade most bystanders from stepping in where they don't belong. Zephyr forced Leon to take a basic crash course on handguns, so he knows the basics of how to handle the weapons; how to care for them, how to load them, and how to work the safety. That being said, he's not exactly a great shot, and he doesn't practice much, so he's not likely to hit his target from more than a few feet away, and that's assuming that the target isn't moving. In his hand, firearms serve as little more than a deterrent to the common man.
