A tall, young adult blonde of average height, Kanna's sharp, shimmering green eyes stand out as her most striking feature, with a dark, jade hue that often stands out under bright lights, and often looks utterly out of place on a Japanese woman. She boasts a pert hourglass figure and a toned, svelte build, attesting to her efforts as someone who visits the gym no less than three times a week. Her long, shapely legs show just a hint of the sculpted layer of muscle underneath, and her lean, washboard midriff emphasizes the generous swell of her bust. Her shoulders, wider than average, clearly display her natural preference for swimming, while her arms and knuckles show a handful marks and calluses along her otherwise smooth, pale skin and attesting to her history as a fighter and all and all completing a striking sporty shape. Kanna rarely cuts her long, flowing golden hair, preferring to trim it herself if needed, and typically wearing it in a perpetual high ponytail. She does, however, regularly dye it from its natural black, as if her natural colour were part of a secret she'd rather remain hidden.
Her style and posture easily marks her as a cool but rough character: She walks calm but briskly, scarcely looking at people around her, often carrying headphones and a backpack, minding her own business. She despises formal wear or uniforms and instead favors casual attires: loose jackets, tank tops and ripped jeans, whatever she finds comfortable to wear. She also boasts several tattoos including: A large, dancing dragon and phoenix on her back, a tribal spider between her navel and right breast, the characters "知識は力" near the outside of her left breast, a compass on her left hand and finally a thorned rose around her right thigh. She has both ears pierced, as well as her left nostril and tongue.

RUMOR/SECRET: | Some believe the Vigilante Binary is actually a Hero School dropout |
As a solitary, free spirited "gray hat" hacker, Kanna forges ahead, seeking her own path independently of what others thought of or did to her. She avoids mingling with others and spends most of her time alone in her apartment. Cynical, abrasive and hot tempered, she fully understands she's a difficult person to get along with - let alone befriend - and wouldn't have it any other way. Most people aren't worth paying attention to anyway...
Thankfully, Kanna refused to let her sad upbringing define her. While it made her undeniably asocial - bordering on psychopathy - she felt no urge to lash out or seek vengeange against society as a whole. She retained a reasonably aligned moral compass, a strong sense of right and wrong and a desire not to see suffering inflicted on the undeserving... She'd always have a seething hatred for violence against women and children, enough to inflict the sadistic payback she never could quite give her own father.
She looks out for herself as much as possible, in every aspect of her life, all but refusing to ever ask for help. Though perfectly capable of cooking and looking after her place, she finds such mundane chores useless and instead eats junk food inside a mostly messy appartment. She wakes up late and sleepy with bags under her eyes, has coffee and cigarettes for breakfast, and sits on her computer. If she gets hungry, she'll make herself some microwave pizza or instant ramen, and if she gets bored she'll light a spliff and play some shooter games. If she gets lazy or sleepy she'll just smoke more and grab an energy drink for fuel.
Late at night, she spends hours glued to the screen involved in online hacktivism - under many names, from her old alias "Owl", to her current Vigilante name "Binary" - perhaps the only true heroics she genuinely gets involved in, without anybody knowing her identity. Should she has no causes to fight for or work to deliver, she'll instead go out and find herself a rave party, do drugs, and hopefully get laid. Despite having been sexually active for many years, Kanna has never had a proper partner, preferring occasional flings over the binds of a commited relationship.
Despite skipping about as many classes as she can get away with, Kanna never shirks out on club activities, or the classes she deems interesting. She took pride in her work on her high school's web app, and would regularly improve or debug it as needed. It's only natural she'd seek to do the same here in College, or for whatever fellow Vigilante who earns her respect.
Classes and parties aside, she'll only leave her room if she needs to restock - drugs, food and tobacco - or if she needs something she can't get inside it, such as exercise. She enjoys a short swim at the pool every other night, and has at least two MMA classes a week. It helps her vent some of the excess tension, with martial arts in particular giving her a slight measure of discipline and control over her temper.
After all, she's the type who can explode from calm to furious in a split second if sufficiently provoked, grabbing the nearest hard object to bash the offender in the head. This change happens so suddenly most foes don't even see it coming, allowing her to get the first strike in while their guard is down - starting and finishing the fight in one blow.
Ideally, she'd rather solve conflicts in a smarter, but equally assertive fashion. No matter whom, Kanna makes it a point to have leverage over others, information she can use as a shield against potential foes shackling or punishing her for knowing too much. She normally uses the terabytes worth of sensitive data for her own protection (it will be leaked should any harm come to her), but when a particularly hated foe appears in front of... Then she'll actively exploit this information to the fullest and squeeze her victims dry, tormenting them over the course of years. With her eiditic memory, she never forgets an enemy...
For weaker villains, this kind of leverage lets her tame them and earn herself reliable moles, even assets, used to catch bigger fish as long as they're useful... It is part of her work as a vigilante, the type of work Binary does by night. Under the Owl name, however, she's more of a proper, traditional hacktivist, with less of a focus on villains and mostly on the corrupt in society. By using different names for different purposes, she further helps hide her tracks and keep her identity hidden.
Ironically, the same cerebral cunning that makes her unpleasant foe also makes her a reliable ally when the time comes. She'll seldom go out of her way to help another, but will gladly sell her skills to someone she doesn't loathe. In the rare occasion she likes that person or relates to their cause, she'll offer them a freebie, casually 'forget' to mention due payment. When called out on this by someone she truly fancies, she'll even blush and dismiss it, looking away and telling them they'll discuss it later.
In the grand scheme of things, she views her quirk as a fulcral part of her hacker skillset, and seeks to continually master each and every aspect of its usage. With raw talent and earnest desire to hone it, she intrigued the UA examiners enough to be accepted into the school, after a glimpse of selflessness betrayed the budding heroism Kanna refuses to acknowledge. Alas, this was never enough for her: Even as she aged and grew more accomodating of others, perhaps less antagonistic, she still prefers to work by herself, as she should.

Born in 2414, a girl was born to the Mikadzuki family in Sagamihara - Yoshino they called her - as the daughter of a hard working company man and his wife. She never wanted for anything, and perhaps in another time she might have never had to...
At the age of four she discovered her quirk through an unnatural affinity to electronics, and perhaps even considered a future as a hero. Warned against flaunting her control over computers, only Yoshino's intelligence and memorization marked her as a talented young girl, if limited by her introverted personna.
But Yoshino wouldn't have the happy childhood or innocent dreams so many others took for granted. When she was no older than five years old, her father lost his job. At a time of economic crisis, it would have taken him years to find a new one. But he never got that far... Stricken with depression, the man turned to drinking, and in turn venting his frustrations on his wife and daughter. In a matter of months he went from loving to abusive, beating the two until his wife simply left, unable or unwilling to bring Yoshino along.
The girl never knew why her mother left her, but she never forgave her, and would lump mother and father together for the rest of her life.
The did a good job at hiding the wounds inflicted if nothing else, venting his myriad frustrations on the only one around to recieve them: And the more she endured the abuse, the angrier Yoshino became. In time she started fighting back when struck, but that only intensified the beatings she recieved. Eventually, her fury boiled over, and she struck her unwitting father with his newly purchased golf club.
At the age of ten, the father was no longer able to hide the mess his household had become, and the girl was taken into foster care. But she'd find little to no improvement in the system...
At a time where quirks remained illegal, the infant Yoshino knew better than flaunting hers even around her new home. In the year after separating from her family, she finally had a measure of time to develop it, and improve her affinity to technology with computer science and programming languages. Even under a stressful, unsuitable upbringing, the girl showed incredible potential. With her brilliant mind, she'd achieve passing grades while scarcely looking at any study material outside school, or even paying attention in class.
Instead, she remained absorbed in computers and gadgets, slowly coming to understand her quirk not as simple control over computers, but an ability to manipulate the electromagnetic flow of binary data. Between components of the same computer, through other computers connected to the same network... This affinity for technology over people seemed so obvious to any who looked, and yet without seeing the full depth of her skills, most passed it off as great talent. The very nature of Yoshino's quirk relied immensely on her own natural skill, and she'd need a few more years to achieve a sufficient level of mastery in computer sciences and programming.
But as she worked towards that goal, she eventually met an obstacle in her adoptive siblings, who discovered it and bullied her, under threat of revealing her powers at a time when they were still scarcely accepted.
Fully realizing the power of knowledge, Yoshino used her quirk to turn their game against them... Using not the nasty brats themselves, but the authority above them: Their parents. Learning about her foster father's affair with another woman through his cellphone, she plotted her escape from this system. She could do much better on her own. The next time her "siblings" attempted to abuse her, she retaliated with the nearest weapon she found: A screwdriver.
Hastily running out of the house, she blackmailed the father against sending the police after the rogue quirker. If he did so or anything happened to her, she'd send the incriminating messages to his wife.
Now out on her own, Yoshino took to calling herself Kaya in a pinch, merely an alternate reading to the Kanji composing her name. She relished in her newfound liberty, skimming whatever money she needed from hapless people and finding herself a hotel to hole up in. Yet this absolute freedom wouldn't last long. No more than a week had passed, and even though no authorities or vigilantes seemed aware of her existence, someone found her: Mikadzuki Yoshinori, her grandfather.
Despite never explaining how he found her, he instead begged for the girl's forgiveness, for the actions of his worthless son, and for not seeing it in time to stop it. So long as he believed the girl to be alright in her foster home, his shame held him against seeking her out. But after seeing her all alone against the world, he intervened. Kaya stood speechless as she listened to the kneeling man, but even though someone in her family finally saw what she'd gone through, she couldn'd simply let it go. The girl's eiditic memory branded each of those hellish days in her mind, and he understood her grief. At the very least, he helped the her disappear entirely, in exchange for the girl's agreement to attend school.
Thus, the old man gave his granddaughter the only kindness he still had the right to give: A chance at a life on her own. He gave her a new identity - good enough to fool the authorities - and enrolled her into a good school in a different city.
Thus at the age of 13, the girl became Kusanagi Kanna, a student in Tokyo.
With her wits and quirk, she actually got by living on her own. She became a foul mouthed, unpleasant delinquent, having few friends and reacting violently to bullying attempts - often getting suspended as a result. Soon, she began learning martial arts both as a means of self defense and to give her a measure of control over her temper, though that discipline never actually spread to her lifstyle: Smoke, coffee, drugs... You name it.
Not to mention her diet, consisting mostly of junk food and energy drinks...
This unruly nature reflected on her appearance as well, proudly exhibited with a myriad tattoos and piercings. Yet despite the antagonistic aura, she showed a soft spot to victims of abuse like she once was, and often aided those with nobody else to turn to. She remained among the top students as well, despite any lack of ambition towards higher education.
As a student, she obviously had her fair share of talent, enough to take over a budding Computer Club with a rather flashy display of skill, casually shutting down the entire club room upon being denied access to its resources. Fellow students scarcely saw the reclusive club president, but the student council saw her well enough when the time comes to distribute funds. The school's sleek and responsive web platform has her signature all over it, as she's been upgrading and improving its usability throughout her tenue. Though the platform has grown significantly more secure, her involvement with the system also yielded a treasure trove of power and information on most people who ever used it... Only the future would tell what she'd use it for.
Yet the things that really mattered; her skills as a hacker, her dataflow quirk... They had to be developed in secret. That was, until her grandfather invited her to enroll at a new school, an Academy for Heroes. Though the very name made her roll her eyes, his knowledge startled her. The last time her family members heard of her Quirk, even Kanna herself didn't know how it actually worked. But as her grandfather spoke to her, she fully deduced just how much he actually did know, and why he'd found her the first time. Did he have the same quirk as she did...? Yeah, that seemed like the most likely explanation. In that case, did her worthless old man had it too? No way, he complained about her freak ability far too much. Then, had it skipped a generation...?
Yoshinori promised he'd answer all her questions one day, if she were still interested, and Kanna herself conceded she most likely wouldn't. She'd find the answers herself, perhaps even in this school... She'd always been secretive about her Quirk, so much that even the few people who knew she had it assumed it far weaker than it's true potential, unable to affect anything but electronics at hand.
Despite her reservations, Kanna marched on, determined to graduate from this new school for "Heroes", Yuuei as they called it. She had no trouble clearing the entrance exam, as the proctors were kind enough to pit them against mechanical enemies she could hack, binding one to her will, and passing her exam with flying colors. Despite this incredible power, the examiners couldn't help notice this apparent delinquent refrained from farming points near places where she knew the weaker students were struggling for a passing score.
Spending three years there, however, was a whole other story. Antisocial and difficult to get along with, she hardly made much friends. Her Quirk, even at its fullest, was helpless in single combat against some of the more powerful students. With neither strength, nor heroism, and and all in all antisocial personna, she very quickly felt smothered by all the red tape and regulation, indulging in her desire to do everything her way.
To her credit, Kanna wasn't really expelled or anything. Instead, she dropped out of her own voilition, her tenrue short and not particularly sweet. She finished high school at a regular school, and pursued higher education at her grandpa's behest, now attending a degree in Software Engineering. And yet the heroic drive UA tried to drill into her didn't really vanish overnight... As Kanna had always had a soft spot for the downtrodden, she became a sort of Hacktivist vigilante, using her Quirk in ways that nobody even guessed that aloof dropout could have been able to, crippling villains and criminal syndicates by wreaking havok on their networking, communication, and even finances.
Alas, she'd been doing all this mostly from the comfort of her apartment for far too long, even with her Grandpa paying her rent. Between the visible messiness, the smell of "wierd smokes", and Kanna's overall unpleasant attitude, her landlord is currently looking for every opportunity to kick her out...
THE ARMORY
Binary Suit: A blue skintight bodysuit that perfectly conducts her own bioelectricity, allowing her use her quirk on any electronics touching it. In addition, it helps to ease the drawbacks of her quirk, absorbing some of the radiation that would normally burn her after overusing. While wearing it, she can resist her Quirk's recoil on her body for up to two extra turns, but she will still damage other objects in contact with her.
Kannafied Smartphone: A top of the line, high specs Smartphone that Kanna herself tinkered with and helped protect using her own Software and security measures on top of what already came with the device.
Secured Flash drive: Capable of storing 100GB of data, this flash drive was built for Kanna specifically, lacking any external interface and requiring her Quirk to access it. All the information inside is heavily encrypted as well, for she uses it to store sensitive information.
The Little Bastard: A miniature railgun. It came from a failed prototype that got into the hands of some villains, and then hers when she took them down with the help of a friend. Only Kanna can make it work as intended, by using her quirk to control the electromagnets that accelerate the bullets. It's roughly the size of an average revolver, with 6 shots that can punch through steel. She must wait one post between each shot.
Stun Baton: A retractible, battery powered stun baton enough to stagger or incapacitate those it strikes for one post after the baton is pulled away. The battery lasts enough for three charges before dying, up to 3 posts use.
QUIRK & SKILLS
DATAFLOW
TYPE: Emitter
RANK/LEVEL: B
SUMMARY:
Initially understood as a power to manipulate computers she touched - a form of technopathy - Kanna has later discovered her quirk actually revolved around manipulation of digital signals composing binary data: Instead a highly specialized, weak electromagnetism. She achieves this through her abnormal bioelectricity: Emmited in ultra rapid pulses, they translate her thoughts directly to binary and vice versa. By using her Quirk, she has no need for a mouse, keyboard, monitor or headphones, and can communicate with the machine directly.
Beyond her skills as a hacker and eiditic memory, she can use her quirk to effectively hijack the flow of data on any electronic device she touches. At its simplest level, she can touch a computer and control the flux of information between its components, allowing her to extract data or inject her own code while likely remaining undetected to all but the most secure of systems. Because of her Quirk, she was born with impeccable eiditic memory, remembering everything in her mind as well as any hard drive might.
Should that device have a potential connection to a broader network, she can hitchhike on that connection to extend her own signal into said network, allowing her to reach electronic equipment further away, depending on the strength of her signal and her own stamina.
So long as she's touching an electronic device, she can pick up or intercept any electromagnetic signal sent and recieved by it - be they based on electric voltage or radio waves. Her ability to decrypt the signal depends on her own knowledge and the devices she's touching: If either Kanna herself or the device she's accessing know the decyrption algotithm, she can fully understand the message. Otherwise, she'll recieve the message as gibberish, with no ability to make sense of it.
WEAKNESSES/LIMITATIONS: Speaking binary throughout her youth has visibly hampered Kanna's human development. She's out of touch with the more subtle, complex emotions, with a lack of social tact that makes her unlikeable. Additiontally, she has a blatant inability to cope with emotions that are completely new to her: Her mind has grown closer to a computer's, so she must learn the right way of coping instead of relying on instinct.
She's limited by the range and specs of the devices she connects to, as well as what types of signal they're built to employ - unlike other cybernetic based quirks, Kanna can only directly influence data: While she can manipulate an old digital telephone, she cannot make it connect to the internet. She could use that old telephone to call a modern smartphone and access the later's wi-fi capabilities, so long as the latter remained connected within an acceptable range. At that point, she'd still be limited by the bandwidth of both devices.
Without any electronic device touching her skin, Kanna is as powerful as the next Quirkless. Indeed she's limited to directly influencing devices she can touch and hijacking their signal with hers. Her own bandwidth also limits how fast data can flow between her mind and the targeted device, and if she stops touching that device, she'll have to reset the connection and seek out the rest of the message.
Abusing her quirk means sustaining it for longer, or trying project a stronger signal than she's capable of. When doing so, messages recieved will be plagued by static interference and data corruption, and her emission signal will turn erratic. This could make her far easier to detect and intercept, as she'll unwittingly trigger visual cues on devices connected to her, such as visual static or abnormal behavior.
She's capable of using her Quirk for roughly 12 posts in a row, but connecting to wider networks, such as cell towers, will drain her twice as much. After 6 posts of consistent use she'll start experiencing radiation burns of various degrees in the parts of her body touching the machine. Though capable of recovering from the damage with enough rest, forcing herself past her limit can easily cause her EM signal to surge out of control and fry the device...
She can recover the full use of her Quirk with roughly one post of rest for each post used.
She cannot freely hack or decrypt her way past security systems better than the average police station. Attempting to hack beyond that level takes nothing less than brute force tactics, costing twice as much energy with much greater risk of detection - even then they're all but impossible to get through if she's not touching the target machine directly.
Kanna is also weak to electrical attacks while using her quirk: If the gadget she's touching gets fried by EMP, she'll get knocked unconscious by it and experience short term memory loss, and will take roughly 4 posts to regain the use of her Quirk.
In the end, Kanna's quirk revolves around digital communication instead of technological manipulation: Since her body isn't a computer, Dataflow doesn't let her execute any code she may have downloaded, but she can read, modify, or copy the source at will. When she doesn't know the algorithm used to encrypt a signal, she'll understand the message as unintelligible gibberish, akin to hear a foreigner talk next to you while struggling to understand what language he's speaking. While her eiditic memory lets her record actual information, she can't remember streams of encrypted data for more than a few seconds. For this reason, she always carries some sort of storage device where she can upload it for later analysis.
