RUMOR/SECRET: | Whenever Kaji is involved, bad things tend to follow.~ |
Kaji is a cat.
Mischievous by nature but well meaning most of the time, Kaji is a rather decent individual. He loves helping others and generally making himself useful to society. Given the circumstances of his past, Kaji's general disposition towards people is amicable at worst.
Unfortunately however, given Kaji's penchant for attracting trouble, the longer Kaji seems to hang around people the worst luck they seem to have. Weird and uncanny things seem to happen to the people who stick around him and because of that Kaji remains ever aloof never getting too close to any one individual.
Yet even though he is cursed, Kaji remains ever upbeat.
He is ever smiling and will almost always try to lighten the mood. His checkered past is a bit of a sore spot for him and is just about the only thing that can put a damper on his mood. That aside however it is tough to bring the man down as he loves being coy and playful with people. While he used to be trusting in the past, Kaji nowadays is slow to reveal his inner thoughts. He is also the kind of man who operates as he deems fit. Ironically, even though he is someone who is usually on the side of justice, Kaji's intent is usually misconstrued. Because of this being an ever constant thing, Kaji has stopped trying to explain himself to people and usually just proceeds to act as he so chooses.
As a side note, Kaji's ability to read and write is very basic. Given the level most things are written at however, it doesn't tend to affect him very much. He however isn't going to be reading The NY Times any time soon.

Born on the streets. Kaji's life for the most part was rather plain. Though he was sure he started out in some orphanage somewhere, if pressed, he honestly wouldn't be able to tell you when he started living out on the streets. For as long as he could remember, it was always just him and his brother.
Struggling to survive as best as he could with his kid brother, Kaji and Kei seemed to be a magnet for misfortune. When they were younger the two used to frequent homeless shelters to allow for a slight reprieve against the elements. Like with most things however, if the two happened to stay in one place too long, unfortunate things seem to occur. With almost half a dozen shelters burning down to 'mysterious' circumstances, the two brothers decided to limit their visits as best they could.
Given how young the two were however, it wouldn't have been a stretch to imagine that their odds of survival being rather low. It was during this time that Kaji and Kei learned of humanity's kindness. Every time the two thought they were about to reach the end of their rope, someone always appeared to help them out. They were complete and utter strangers who likely had little to spare. Yet they gave what they could and somehow the two brothers managed to survive.
Once in their teenage years the two had a much easier time. They were much more capable of caring for themselves and found that they didn't have to struggle as hard as they used to before. Given that they now had some free time on their hands, the two decided to put it to good use. The pair began to help their community out where they could being like a pair of protective guardians to their neighborhood. Just like how the community had done for them, the two tried to help those who needed it.
Eventually the brothers would start to gain some recognition around the neighborhood and the two began to amass a small following. The most notable of the newcomers were three people in particular who coincidentally happened to be among the first ones to join. The man who eventually rose to become Kaji's number two was a street smart guy by the name of Himura Kokei. Soon after him a meek but well meaning kid named Ando Danjuro joined up with them. Last but not least, they were then joined by a man who would go on to become the group's primary bruiser. His name happened to be Omura Kinji. All five guys would become known as the founding members of The Alley Cats as all five of them were known to have cat based quirks. Most of people who wound up eventually joining wouldn't share that similarity. But being that the five most prominent members of the group were individuals with cat based abilities, they eventually wound up acquiring the name The Alley Cats. It was during this time that Kaji developed most of his combat abilities.
With more people came more problems. Initially things went well for the first few years and the budding vigilante group's name began to spread. They went from urban legend status to hushed rumors that floated throughout the city. Their growing notoriety didn't however solve their growing money problem. With so many people now in their care, it was getting harder and harder to support the organization off of just the goodwill they got from people they helped. Kaji's #2, Himura, brought this up to the man along with the suggestion that so long as they took a little off the top from those they took down. Kaji considered it, but ultimately shot down the notion. Even if it would have likely been the easiest way to kill two birds with one stone, he worried that once they were in for a penny, they'd be in for a pound. Meaning simply that once they started, they would eventually escalate. Unfortunately. Those fears would eventually come to pass.
Several years passed since the two talked about branching out and the organization pressed on. Like before it still struggled to make ends meet but given the nature of their business, Kaji thought all was well. It was during this time that Himura brought a particularly big job to Kaji's attention. One which happened to be at some docks where a rather interesting shipment was being made to some rather unscrupulous people. The sheer scale of the operation required every hand they had to even hope to complete it. It was one which would be undeniably dangerous but successfully executing it would bring down a huge branch of a drug trafficking ring. Initially skeptical, Kaji was eventually convinced by Himura. It was then that everything came crashing down.
The job itself went off without a hitch. No one from their side had sustained major injuries and given how the crew had executed the whole operation, Kaji felt like the whole thing had brought everyone that much closer. Or so he assumed until he felt a knife in his back. This knife was both metaphorical and literal as one of his men had put it in him. Retaliating as he struggled to get a grasp on what was going on, Himura quickly arrived on the scene along with the rest of the founding members. Seeing what was going on they all seemed to have looks of confusion nestled on their face. For three of them it wasn't because Kaji was fighting one of their own but rather it was because he was still alive.
A feeling of relief washed over Kaji thinking that with the help of his friends everything would likely be fine. That thought instantly died as Himura, Ando, and Omura quickly grabbed Kaji's brother who had been surrounded by them. Kaji would had been fighting off the traitor was instantly confused by the events. Over the next hour everything would become clear to him.
Forced to surrender due to the capture of his little brother, Himura issued out orders to their loyalists via text to execute the operation and eliminate those they knew wouldn't turn to their side. With that done, Himura proceeded to beat Kaji down as he vented his frustrations out at his newfound punching bag. Ando who seemed kind of conflicted with the whole thing watched with a look of apprehension on his face while Omura had a smug smile on his face that told Kaji he deserved everything he was getting. With every kick that Himura sent at Kaji, the man spoke about how Kaji's priorities were completely fucked up. How he'd had to make countless sacrifices trying to keep the organization afloat. And about how Kaji's inability to adapt had made trying to run the organization a living hell for all the founding members.
Bloodied, bruised, and half-unconscious, Kaji could only mutter a weak apology to the man as he continued to offer little resistance. Exhausted after beating their former leader up for the better half of an hour, Himura took in a deep breath as he tried to steady himself. Looking down at what had been their boss, Himura stared at the man for a moment before slowly shaking his head. The man had five years to do something about the problem. A simple sorry wasn't going to fix things. Which was why Himura was going to fix things.
And with that thought, Himura eyes went to Omura. Giving the man a nod, Kaji's tired eyes widened as the sound of a gunshot echoed in the air. Mustering what little remained of his strength, Kaji turned his head towards the sound's source as despair filled his face. There was blood. Blood from a hole in his brother's head. The look of terror that had been permanently plastered on his dead brothers face as he fell forwards burned itself into his mind. Instantly become possessed as adrenaline began to flood his veins, Kaji launched himself off the ground and straight at Omura. He wouldn't get very far however as several gunshots echoed from behind him. The bullets flew true and each of them struck him. Two hit his legs, one in his back, and another in his arm. With the addition of these new injuries, Kaji's body gave out on him. He hit the ground with a hard smack and slid along it for a couple of feet as he struggled to pull himself towards the corpse of his dead brother. Incomprehensible noises rose from his throat as he tears streamed down his face. He kept trying to crawl towards Kei but like with before, Himura was fresh out of sympathy. Two more gunshots hit the air as their hard metallic shells bouncing on the ground seemed to accentuate the finality of the evening.
Kaji was dead.
Seeing how they were at the docks, the group tossed the bodies of their victims in the ocean and went about their business acting as though nothing had happened. From then on The Alley Cats rose to prominence. It played out like the perfect rags to riches story. They even were offered the opportunity to become contracted to an official hero agency.
That had been three years ago.
And as much as Kaji wanted to let the past die, he wouldn't be able to let it. So long as those three lived.

QUIRK & SKILLS
Superstitious Cat
TYPE: Mutation
RANK/LEVEL: D-
SUMMARY:
Kaji is a cat! But not just any cat, he's a black cat. His abilities initially seemed to be limited to having super fluffy ears and a fluffy cat tail. It is near impossible for him to lose his balance or to not be able to recover from a fall also!
○ ENHANCED TRANCE: Eventually he learned that he had heightened senses and reflexes which he could focus on for a short while (Maximum 3 Posts) to operate at near inhuman levels. While in his natural state, Kaji is naturally agile and flexible but when in his enhanced state Kaji's can execute inhuman feats like deflecting a bullet.
○ ACUTE SENSE OF SMELL: Kaji's sense of smell is unusually sharp. Though it's nowhere as near as powerful as someone with a dog-based quirk, Kaji's nose is still quite capable.
○ NINE LIVES: Kaji's unique quirk ability is the fact that he seems to be partially immortal. Though unsure of the limit himself, Kaji has a limited number of lives and is not immune to any forms of damage. As to the extent that he can recover from, that remains to be seen. (Currently Eight Lives Remain)
WEAKNESSES/LIMITATIONS:
While in his normal state, Kaji is generally a slippery follow. He's hard to pin down and even harder to catch. Base Kaji is quite above the regular person's abilities just due to his natural born inclinations which were further reinforced by the kind of life he's lived by being a vigilante.
○ ENHANCED TRANCE BACKLASH: When pushing his already high senses even further, Kaji's body is strained. Even using the ability for but a SINGLE post will cause Kaji to feel extreme muscle pain for forcibly surpassing his limits. The extreme muscle pain will make it hard for him to use even half of his abilities afterwards.
If Kaji uses this ability for TWO posts, the backlash his body experiences will have a near crippling effect on him. Given that the natural limiter on his body was surpassed, his body isn't built to keep up. Depending on the action, Kaji's muscles can be torn in several places and moving will be hard for the man. At best he will be only able to walk rather slowly and painfully.
If Kaji uses this ability for the full THREE posts, his body will be effectively reduced to mush once he comes out of the trance. Moving will be impossible for him and he will be immobilized for the rest of the thread.
If Kaji uses this ability for FOUR posts, he will die.
○ SENSORY OVERLOAD: Another weakness of Kaji's is his sense of smell. Given how powerful and sensitive his nose is, even small odors tend to bother him. If hit with a stink bomb, Kaji's head and senses will be assaulted to the point where the man can't operate let alone think.
○ CATNIP: A major weakness of Kaji is Catnip. If inhaled, Kaji's eyes generally go wide as he mellows out. He'll be out of commission for two posts contemplating the wonders of the world while lying on the floor spaced out.
○ WATER: Kaji hates water. Even if it won't hurt him, he has an abnormal fear of getting wet and will do ANYTHING in his power to avoid getting soaked. Though he will stomach it to keep up with his hygienic needs aside from when he's mentally prepared for contact with water, Kaji full on hates moisture.
○ BAD LUCK: The drawback is as the name says. Kaji seems to have a penchant for attracting bad luck. Most of the time it usually affects him. Some of the times it can affect others so long as it adversely affects Kaji as well. The strength of the bad luck that affects the person tends to hinge on how close Kaji is to a person. To those that are merely passing acquaintances or enemies however, they remain immune to this effect.

Acrobatic
RANK/LEVEL: E
SUMMARY:
Kaji is a natural acrobatic. This skill doesn't make Kaji anymore agile or flexible but instead is Kaji's general skill with landing and flips. As he's not practiced this skill much it's rank is generally rather low. He has only the most basic level of understanding on how to nimbly control his movements in the air.
