Rin typically hides her athletic build beneath several layers of clothing, even during the height of Summer. She's small for her age, but her training regime has built muscle - the girl is heavier than most assume at first glance.
Due to her pale complexion, she gets sunburnt quite easily unless she takes the usual precautions. Rin dyes her hair frequently, preferring to have white and blue streaks most of the time. She enjoys the way the two colours compliment one another.
It's rare to see Rin without some form of superficial injury - cuts, grazes, bruises, etc.

RUMOR/SECRET: | "I heard that she almost died before coming to UA!" |
Rin is a cute little bean, according to her brother. He's not entirely wrong - Rin is kindhearted, gentle and polite. A real care-giver at heart, and eager to fix things when something goes wrong. Indeed, it surprises no-one that her aspiration since childhood has been to get into the medical field. Nursing is generally presumed by her parents and other adults, but her friends know better - Rin intends to be a paramedic.
Her persona with family and strangers is that of a quiet, soft being. A girl who wouldn't even harm a mosquito as it sucks her blood. She gives so much of herself to those around her, and has a hard time saying 'no'. Underneath the kindly exterior lies a will of steel.
When push comes to shove, Rin knuckles down and FIGHTS. She won't back down; won't give up. This side of her personality isn't seen often, as she will always try to de-escalate a situation first. She won't turn to violence if there is another avenue available to her.
Typically, her passion and determination is channeled into a rather studious nature - Rin is always trying to learn something new, and a low grade at school hits her hard. She will isolate herself and mope, playing video games to get her mind off the 'failure'.

BACKGROUND HISTORY
PLACE OF BIRTH/HOMETOWN: | Tokyo |
PARENTS: | Ryota Takeshi (Father, 49) Hanako Takeshi (Mother, 40) |
SIBLINGS: | Shozo Takeshi (brother, 20) |
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: | N/A |
OTHER: | N/A |
Rin's birth was something of a surprise for her parents. They hadn't planned on having a second child, but the little girl was a welcome addition to the family. Shozo, at only 4 years old, was a bit wary of the baby when she was first brought home, but he treated his new role of 'Big Brother' with great seriousness. The bond between the siblings has only grown over the years, never wavering.
The early years were pretty normal for Rin and her brother - they went to school, made friends, and tried to make their parents proud. Rin had a little more difficulty; as the years went by, it became clearer that she had no Quirk. At first, the young girl hoped that she was just a late bloomer, but it wasn't to be. By the time she was 6, the doctor confirmed that she had no Quirk, nor was she likely to develop one - Rin was Quirkless.
It was frustrating to hear, but changed very little for Rin. She was already treated like a porcelain doll by her parents, and the few friends that decided the Quirkless girl wasn't worth their time weren't a loss, really. If they thought Quirkless meant she was ill, or weak... Well, they weren't good friends to begin with, were they?
Life continued onwards.
When asked about the job she wanted when she grew up, she would still respond with Hero, just like many of her classmates did. The sad looks, and well-meaning advice that perhaps she look at a less dangerous occupation wore down the young girl's spirit, and eventually her dream seemed to shift. Rin still wanted to help people, so she started looking at careers that would allow her to do so. Scientists, nurses, doctors, teachers... there were plenty of options that fit her reality, and people responded better when she named anything that didn't put her at risk of injury. So she settled on working in the medical field, and when the adults around her presumed that she would become a nurse, Rin went with it.
She buried her dream of being a Hero deep within herself, shoved it so far into the recesses of her mind that she almost forgot she had ever wanted it. A Quirkless Hero wasn't practical, she told herself. If she had to rely on support gear to tackle dangerous situations, then she would be a liability whenever her gear broke - and it WOULD break, wouldn't it? Villains always targeted weaknesses.
Even with her heroic dreams crushed, Rin still applied for UA. If she couldn't be a hero, then she would work alongside them, and making connections whilst in High School was the intelligent choice. Besides, with UA listed on her paperwork, there wasn't a college or university in the country that would turn her down, Quirkless or not!
A collapsed apartment building almost stole away her chance to attend. Three months before the entrance exams, an escaping villain with a burrowing Quirk tunneled underneath several buildings, and the family's apartment block, already rather rundown, crumbled. Few people were home at the time, so those caught in the rubble were limited. Unfortunately for Rin, she'd been in bed, sleeping off a nasty stomach ache.
Rescue took several hours, and Rin was found among the lower floors, a twisted metal rod skewering her right leg . Getting her out was a challenge for the Heroes involved, but they were successful and Rin was rushed to hospital. She remained there, in a coma for a week whilst the medical staff worked to insure she would live. It was a miracle, they told her family, that Rin's injuries were so minimal. She'd have a couple of scars on her leg from the metal bar, and she'd broken her foot when the floor collapsed, but the main risk to her had been blood loss and lack of oxygen.
It was a long week for all involved.
When Rin finally awoke, she was surprisingly aware of, well, everything. She knew which Hero had been responsible for saving her, knew about the argument between Shozo and Father when tempers had flared after four days of her hospitalization, and could name the nurses that worked the ward she was currently staying in. The adults assumed it was a combination of Shozo's random chatter as he sat with his sister, and access to the internet - Shozo had left a smartphone by Rin's bed, just in case she awoke during non-visiting hours and wanted to talk.
No-one believed her when she tried to tell them that she had been present for everything; well, none of the adults, at least. Shozo was more accommodating, willing to believe that maybe, Rin had a Quirk. Astral Projection, she called it. The adults brushed it off as her young mind struggling to process how close to death she had come.
Even if it is a Quirk, Shozo argues that it isn't a very good one - not if it requires nearly dying just to activate it. For once in her life, Rin isn't in agreement with her brother - Astral Projection could be very useful, if applied correctly. Whilst the Quirk is extremely limited NOW, Rin is certain that all she needs is a way to practice its use safely - her comatose state after the incident was a medical one, so if she could just convince the adults she has a damned Quirk, perhaps she could train it, in the same way she's trained her body and her mind?
Recovery took a few months. Doctors' only declared her foot sufficiently healed a week before U.A's exams. Needless to say, she wasn't up to her usual athletics in the practical portion. The written exam was a bit of a challenge too, which was surprisingly frustrating, but not unexpected - U.A is considered to be the best of the best, after all.

THE ARMORY
Padded Compression Shirt and Leggings - Rin wears these whenever she goes free-running - whilst the padding can lead to more restrictive movement, she prefers the extra protection.
Fingerless Gloves - Another safety precaution when doing parkour. Her gloves are designed specifically with her hobby in mind, allowing for a better grip than her hands alone could obtain. They were a gift from Shozo for getting into U.A, and Rin's not entirely sure that they're available to civilians - she's too scared of losing them to confirm the legality.
First Aid Kit - Rin keeps this surprisingly well-stocked for a student, and always has it on hand, contained in a backpack. She can treat most lower-tier wounds with this kit.

QUIRK & SKILLS
Astral Projection
TYPE: Transformation
RANK/LEVEL: E-
SUMMARY:
Astral Projection allows the user to separate their 'spirit' from its physical restraints, essentially making Rin a ghost. However, this Astral Form is restricted to what can be achieved by her natural body, and doesn't allow for many spooky talents typically associated with wandering spirits. She also cannot interact with the physical world in this state, and is essentially an unseen bystander to any events she witnesses.
WEAKNESSES/LIMITATIONS:
To activate Astral Projection, Rin must be in a comatose state. Natural or medically-induced does not matter, but she cannot use her Quirk whilst conscious. It fails to trigger if her blood sugars are not within a specific range - 5 to 8 mmol/l, exactly. Rin must monitor her blood sugars carefully. If the sugar levels in her body ever leave this optimal range, Rin's Astral Form is pulled back into her body, trapping her inside until they met the required sugar levels.
In her Astral Form, Rin cannot interact with the physical world, and must still obey the laws of physics - despite essentially being a ghost, she cannot float, walk through walls, or move at speeds beyond that which her body can naturally achieve. If a door is closed, Rin cannot open it in this form, as she cannot interact with the door handle. She can change her elevation, presuming she is using stairs, escalators or lift (She cannot call a lift to her floor in this state, but can slip in if someone else has done so).
Sound is extremely muted when in Astral Form, only allowing Rin to hear loud noises. She could catch pieces of someone yelling next to her, or an explosion a couple of rooms away, but wouldn't hear anything spoken at a normal volume, even if they were speaking directly in her ear. The world around her is likewise faded, appearing like a washed-out photograph, and her sense of smell is non-existent.
Rin cannot interact with her body when Astral Projection is active, though she can choose to release her Quirk, returning her to the physical form. The Quirk automatically ends if she regains consciousness, pulling her 'spirit' back into her body. She is unable to track her physical body's condition when Projecting - she could be bleeding out under a pile of rubble, and wouldn't know the danger unless her Astral Form was watching.
Due to the comatose state required to activate Astral Projection, Rin must rely on others to protect her body, and still requires the usual necessities of any other human - food, shelter, water, etc.
Rin can maintain her Astral Form for 2 days (10 posts total), however in this state she does not sleep, and Astral Projection seems to worsen the usual effects of sleep deprivation. After 10 hours (3 of 10 posts), Rin will become irritable, and struggles to focus. At 18 hours (5 out of 10 posts), her attention span is extremely limited, she struggles to recall short-term memories and has blackouts. If 32 hours ( 7 of 10 posts) pass with Astral Projection active, Rin will start to hallucinate, the length and duration of these hallucinations extending with every hour that passes. Should she remain outside her body for the full 48 hours (10 of 10 posts), Rin risks permanent brain damage, or even death, as her body begins to shut down without her spirit's presence.
The effects of sleep deprivation do not lessen upon regaining consciousness - until Rin can 'catch up' on the missed sleep, her body will suffer from tremors, minimized hand-eye co-ordination, slowed mental processing even for simple tasks, and she'll continue to have hallucinations. Without the 'catch-up' sleep equivalent to the time spent using Astral Projection, Rin cannot reactivate her Quirk, even if her blood sugars are in the optimal range.
Without medical treatment to help stabilize her blood sugars whilst using her Quirk, Rin can only hold her Astral Form for a few hours (2 posts). Without monitoring, her blood sugars will drop dangerously, and pulls her back into her physical form.
Even if willingly deactivated, Astral Projection causes some disorientation upon awakening, as her body and mind scramble to bridge the gap between the physical reality of the moment, and whatever situation her Astral Form has witnessed. Despite this, Rin prefers to keep her Quirk active as long as possible, believing the intel she can gather for her peers is worth the risk.
Whilst Astral Projection is active, Rin's skin pales further - 'white as a ghost' is an accurate description. This also makes her veins stand out more, and if someone touches her body whist Rin is wandering around in Astral form, her body temperature is several degrees cooler than the human norm.
Whilst Astral Projection makes Rin into a ghost for human senses, she has noted that some animals seem to be aware of her presence. Cats, in particular, seem attracted to her Astral Form, as are various birds and much to her displeasure, rodents. As they are a part of the physical world, Rin is unable to interact with the animals in this state, but she is certain that they CAN see her Astral Form.

First Aid
RANK/LEVEL: D-
SUMMARY:
Given Rin's intent to become a paramedic, she's taken a few courses in first aid, along with asking numerous questions during her hospitalization. The Nurses and Doctors indulged her curiosity, and Rin made many, many notes on her phone. Notes that she transferred to several journals, and continued to research when she got home.
Rin's knowledge is currently mostly theoretical, though she has used her brother as a test subject for learning how to apply wound dressings, splints and any other support aid that does NOT require an actual injury.
Lip-reading
RANK/LEVEL: E-
SUMMARY:
Since discovering that she does have a Quirk, albeit one with severe limitations, Rin has made an effort to learn how to read lips. If she hopes to utilize Astral Projection for espionage, and the muted senses cannot be overcome with training, observing conversations may be the best way to gather intel.
Rin practiced frequently with her brother before coming to UA, and now that she is in the dorms, will often spend time in the communal area with headphones on, watching her classmates and trying to decipher chatter from their lips' movements alone.
Parkour
RANK/LEVEL: D +
SUMMARY:
Rin started training herself to be a hero, even if those around her didn't think a Quirkless girl would ever succeed. She looked into improving her maneuverability, and discovered parkour in the process. Since then, she finds she quite enjoys it, and it's as much a hobby as it is training for the future. The challenge of getting from point A to point B in the shortest time possible, without incurring injuries, thrills her.
She isn't necessarily always successful, but bruises and grazes are better than broken bones.
