Everything about Kuro's natural appearance just screams "average", and in days past that was something that suited him just fine. Now days though he does everything in his power to try to offset this air of mundanity. Standing at five and a half feet tall, his once brown hair has been dyed an ash blonde and his amber eyes have been accented with colored contacts with a slightly more reddish hue. Though his build is lean and unremarkable, he offsets this by wearing slightly more flashy clothes; dress shirts, waist coats, blazers and the like. Anything at all that will make him stand out more and help forget the nobody he used to be.

RUMOR/SECRET: | "No one knows where this guy came from, almost like he popped up out of thin air, weird isn't it?" "I used to know a kid with that name, but there's no way its the same person." |
Where does the mask end and the person begin? Those that meet Kuro will see a boy overflowing with confidence, an outgoing and charismatic individual that loves meeting new people and experiencing new things. He seems to have absolutely no doubt in his own abilities and will do everything in his power to help those in need, whether that means putting himself in harms way or standing against forces far greater than himself. Kind, courageous, decisive, everything that a hero should be.... but then again that's rather the point.
This public facing persona is just an act, Kuro's own ideal vision of a hero, one that shares none of his own weaknesses. None of his insecurities, none of his hesitation, none of his fears. The shy, timid boy with low self-esteem beneath it all could never become a hero after all, so he simply had to make someone who could.

"I don't want to be me anymore."
Kuro murmured as he looked down at the figure laying in the hospital bed. It had taken almost a week to work up the courage to come, but he owed it to her. Yuki was one of his only friends in the whole world, one of the only people to reach out to him, and it was his fault that she was laying there, covered in burns, not moving aside from the slow rise and fall of her chest.
It had been a normal day, he'd been helping out at her parent's bakery after school to earn a bit of extra money. Sure, his family was pretty well off, but his dad always had him earn his own spending money rather than giving him an allowance. He was moving some boxes in the back storage room when he heard the shouting from the front. Somehow during all of the commotion Kuro had slipped behind a stack of crates in the back and gone unnoticed, but from from his hiding spot he saw everything that unfolded. The villain's demands for cash, his agitation at discovering someone had gotten a call out, the deterioration into a hostage negotiation, the inevitable breakdown when his demands weren't met... During the whole thing there were countless times when the man's back was turned to him. Opportunities when his guard was down and he was within Kuro's reach. Times when he should have done something, should have done anything, but the fear and self-doubt kept him paralyzed, unable to do anything but watch as the situation got worse and worse. When everything was finally at its breaking point, the police burst in and subdued the villain, but not before he shot a blast of flame at the hostages.
One of the customers got hit dead on and didn't make it. Yuki had been right next to him. The girl had been in surgery for hours, and while she'd been able to pull through they weren't sure if or when she'd ever wake up.
Kuro had never wanted to be a hero. He was the quiet kid that always faded into the background. The kid that got good grades but never really drew attention to himself. Hell, most of the school probably wouldn't have even noticed he existed if Yuki hadn't pushed him into joining the drama club. But even then they couldn't reconcile the kid on the stage with the hopeless introvert they saw in the halls... No, the thought of being a hero had never even crossed his mind before now, he'd just been planning to continue along with academics and maybe pursue a degree in drama studies... but a hero wouldn't have been frozen in his tracks; a hero would have been able to protect her.
The thought had completely taken over his mind these past few days and he couldn't ignore it anymore. Tomorrow was the day they were supposed to turn in their applications. Kuro had already been planning to apply to UA's general education course, and it was only a quick change to the form, but.... the doubt was still there. That's why he'd finally come to see her; to help firm up his resolve a bit. He'd played the parts before on stage but this was different, the stage was a whole lot bigger and it was a long time before the curtain would fall. If he was going to do this he had to become someone else first, someone that he couldn't even recognize in the mirror. Someone that was strong, someone that was confident, someone that wasn't scared.
Someone that could be a hero.

THE ARMORY
{- costume -- Click to show}Kuro's hero costume is a simple affair that evokes the image of a ring master. A black Victorian style long coat with silver trimmings is accented by a long black scarf and a pair of grey dress pants. The coat itself is completely covered with all manner of hidden pockets and compartments, but provides no special protection beyond normal.
{- Alastar -- Click to show}A stuffed lion given to Kuro by his childhood friend Yuki. About 14 inches tall, the stuffed animal has seen it's fair share of damage over the years but has been remarkably well maintained. It's insides have been more recently reinforced with advanced polymers to give it roughly the same durability as hard leather while maintaining its soft and cuddly form. Kuro is rarely seen without his companion, usually attached to his back or shoulder.
- Arming sword -- A double edged sword with a blade roughly 30 inches long and an intricate hilt trimmed in silver.
QUIRK & SKILLS
Commanding Will
TYPE: Emitter
RANK/LEVEL: D-
SUMMARY:
Kuro's quirk gives him the ability to animate and give purpose to small objects. When in direct contact with a non-living object no larger than he is, Kuro can give a simple command of up to 3 words, at which point the object will come to life and attempt to carry out its orders to the best of its abilities. Animated objects are physically as strong as Kuro himself and will attempt to move using whatever articulation is available to them. Those lacking any proper form of locomotion are able to achieve a form of limited levitation instead, but doing so cuts the effective strength they can bring to bear in half. Issuing a command uses up a single 'charge' and the object in question will pursue its objective for three posts or until the task is complete, which ever comes first. Multiple commands can be given to the same object in order to create more specific instructions at the cost of additional charges. Commands stacked in this way will be given priority based on the order of commands. For example, if Kuro commands his stuffed animal to "Go fetch snacks" and then adds "Don't Wake Mom", it will prioritize getting the food over being quiet about it. The first command given requires Kuro to be touching the object directly, but after the object has been animated he can refresh or give new commands from any distance. Each command runs on it's own time limit, so if an object is given one command on the first post, and another on the second, then the first command will only be active for 2 more posts while the second still has 3 to go. At his current level of mastery, Kuro can maintain up to 3 objects at once and can use up to 6 charges per thread before experiencing drawbacks.
WEAKNESSES/LIMITATIONS:
While versatile, Kuro's abilities have a few notable shortcomings. First of all, in addition to requiring direct contact with an object to animate it, he must give his commands to it out loud. If rendered unable to speak for whatever reason, his ability to issue new commands disappears, a fact that becomes more notable when he pushes his abilities to their limits. Many would view Kuro's quirk as the ability to breath life into something, and the description is more apt than one might think. Each charge that Kuro uses puts a tax on his lungs, making it harder to breath and thus harder to keep moving. Although his body has naturally adapted against this rather crippling effect, using all of his available charges will leave him quite winded regardless of how much physical activity he's had. While it is technically possible to surpass this charge limit, doing so puts even greater stress on his respiratory system and renders him unable to speak until the charge is expended. Continuing to do this compounds the effect more and more until he inevitably passes out due to lack of oxygen (2-3 uses beyond max).
Finally, the constructs that Kuro animates themselves carry a weakness. If struck in any way that causes the object to sustain a significant amount of damage, be it snapping a chair's leg or tearing a scarf in half, the object will immediately fall inert regardless of how much time it had left.

Donning the Mask
RANK/LEVEL: C-
SUMMARY:
Kuro always had a certain appreciation for theater while going to school. He understood that when he was on stage he didn't have to be himself anymore, he could be anyone he wanted to be. He didn't have to be timid and weak, he could be the cunning rogue, the courageous hero, anything and everything he wanted. As he learned to lose himself in the role he found that he was quite skilled at mimicry and improvisation, skills that come in handy when trying to be anyone that wasn't himself. Add in a bit of practice with make up and costumes and he discovered the best way to hide was right in plain sight.
Swordplay
RANK/LEVEL: E+
SUMMARY:
At a young age Rena Murakami attempted to expose her son to a bit of her heritage in the form of classical sword fighting. While never particularly adept at the activity, Kuro still found it to be rather enjoyable and took it on as hobby. Before arrive at UA however, the only thing he ever used the skills for was stage-fighting during plays.
