Kyoko looks like your classic “pretty boy,” with a delicate air about him. His features are soft and gentle, and he is quick to smile at friends and peers alike. His nails are always painted (technically they’re acrylics, it’s the only thing that keeps him from biting them); and he wears glasses any time that he’s working with books or computers. He’s always got more jewelry on then strictly nessesary; a few rings, necklaces, bracelets, ect. It’s not overly gaudy, but it’s still noticeable. While fluent in Japanese, he has a noticeable American accent. Outside of his school uniform he’s usually dressed in slim fit jeans and oversized t-shirts or sweaters; and is often seen in hats or scarves. While it’s not usually evident from his outward appearance, he’s in peek physical condition from a lifetime of being constantly on the move. Though his build is lean rather than buff, he’s no push over.
PERSONALITY
LIKES ReadingMusic Working Out Cats | DISLIKES IdlenessRiding in cars Being interrupted Bullies |
RUMOR/SECRET: | - The child of two Pro Heroes, Kyo grew up in America until his parents were killed in a car accident last year. He ended up being sent to his father’s family in Japan upon their deaths. - Prior to the accident, he was accepted into the Chicago Academy for Heroic Pursuits. |
Kyo is a city-boy at heart and has never lived out of one. He has struggled with anxiety his whole life, though it got noticeably worse since his parent’s accident. He’s always been active, unable (or perhaps unwilling) to let himself stop for too long. When forced to be still he has a few nervous habits such as bouncing his knee or fiddling with pens or anything else in his hands.
He won’t ride when he can walk and won’t walk when he can run. He picked up climbing and parkour while living in Chicago, and while he isn’t at the point where he’d be making YouTube videos of it, he’s still pretty good. He’s friendly and outgoing, though it’s more from training himself to be comfortable in social situations than it is a genuine desire. He’s the type who would prefer a small group of close friends to a room packed with casual acquaintances.
He’s wanted to be a hero for as long as he knew what heroes were, even before his Quirk manifested. After all, his parents were heroes; and he took their deaths hard. Now his motivations are more mature than just a child’s dream to emulate his role models; but he still wants to be a hero. That said, he’s doesn’t really like the spotlight and knows that this is something he’s going to have to work on going forward if he wants to be successful after he graduates.

PARENTS: | Haruko Mori (father, deceased) Carol Hendricks (mother, deceased) |
SIBLINGS: | none |

OTHER: | none |
Birth:
Born and raised in Chicago, IL, Kyo is the only child of the Pro Hero Duo Indestructible Paradox. Both of his parents possessed quirks that allowed them to manipulate kinetic energy in some fashion, and the pair met when Kyo’s father Haruko came to the US for a 3-year international internship. He always told his son that he’d been ‘instantly smitten’ with Carol. They became Hero Partners first, and then eventually a couple; and in the end they decided to remain in the US instead of returning to Haru’s home country of Japan. Eventually they had a baby boy who they named Kyoko Carson Mori.
The pair managed to juggle Hero work and raising a child, but only thanks to the help of various friends and Agency support. Even when times were tough Haru believed that it was better here, claiming that if they returned to Japan his family was likely to give Carol a hard time for continuing to work despite being a mother.
Due to their choice of lifestyle, there was never a point in Kyo’s life when he wasn’t keenly aware of heroes and their importance to society.
Quirk Manifestation:
Kyo’s quirk manifested a few months before his 5th birthday. Those earliest days were extra challenging for the family. Between accidentally sending random small objects flying around the house and Kyo’s own balance and equilibrium being screwed up when his quirk activated sporadically, there were a handful of accidents and close calls before the boy was able to tamp things down enough to not be a danger to himself and others. It would be years before Kyo could actually control his quirk enough to make it start doing what it wanted; but by the time school started the fall after he turned 5 he was at least safe enough to go.
Elementary School:
He attended the Liberty International School in Philadelphia, PA (thanks to strings pulled by his parents Agency) where he was able to not only receive a standard American education, but also language immersion in Japanese and Spanish, and basic training in Quirk control (something his parents were eternally grateful for).
It was evident from an early age that Kyoko wasn’t quite the typical child; he was anxious all the time, easily overwhelmed, and struggled with pressures both social and educational in nature. Kyo was constantly on the move, turning his house into an ever-evolving obstacle course where he could climb, jump, crawl, and swing from anything he could get his little hands around (even when said “things” were not able to support his weight). And whenever his parents tried to get him to sit still, he filled the time by bouncing, fiddling, and constantly talking/singing/mumbling/ect. It was a running joke that Kyo would go about his day narrating his own life.
It was at this point that his parents decided to try and channel his boundless energy into more organized activity. He began to take lessons in gymnastics, climbing, tumbling, and dance. Anything they could fill the time with.
He was a lucky kid really, his parents were patient, his teachers and tutors and were understanding, and his therapists were helpful. Between all of them, by the time he was nearing the end of Elementary school he’d gotten to the point where he was no longer constantly behind on schoolwork and coming home crying because of bullies. Still, his family decided that the best thing for him was to try a different school where he could have a chance at a fresh start with kids who hadn’t known him for half his life.
Middle School:
The next few years for Kyo were spent at KIPP Ascend Middle School in Chicago, IL; and sure enough, he had a much better start than he’d had before. He was still slow to make real (close) friendships; but over the years he’d found that people liking him make his social anxiety much easier to deal with. He grew from being shy and clumsy to being outgoing and awkward (though his peers mostly managed to find the latter endearing). It was around the start of middle school that he began practicing parkour; though it was mostly just an excuse to burn off energy on his way to and from walking to school. Once he started finding internet videos though all bets were off.
This was also the point in his life when he decided (without a doubt) that he wanted to be a Hero like his parents. He still struggled a lot with his quirk. Private tutors helped him understand that if he really wanted to reach his full potential he was going to have rely on his head and his training to even consider being a functional hero. And over the next few years he studied and trained and worked as hard as he could to do just that. It paid off too! He passed the entrance exam for CAHP (the Chicago Academy for Heroic Pursuits) shortly before Christmas of his 8th grade year.
Parents Death:
Professional Heroes having children will probably always be a point of contention for at least a small portion of the population, especially when both parents are Heroes. After all, a hero’s job is to go out every day and put their lives on the line; and should something happen to them… well, what happens to the kid then? Kyoko’s extended family fell into that “small portion” themselves. He’d never even met his mother’s parents, since they’d cut her off after she pursued a Hero License on her own despite their refusal to let her go to school for it; and while his father’s parents were proud of their son’s chosen profession, they never approved of Carol continuing to work after Kyo was born.
But it wasn’t villains that took his parents lives, it wasn’t a rescue gone bad, or an emergency call… it was an Agency Christmas party, a snow-covered highway, and a patch of black ice. Kyoko came-to in the hospital two days later, remarkably hale considering the devastation the car had been discovered in. The best guess of the police and first responders was that at least one parent if not both had used their quirk to protect the boy. He was alive, but he was also alone.
Recent:
After he finished recovering in the hospital Kyo was taken in by his father’s family. Those first few weeks and months are still a haze when he tries to think back on them. His anxiety spiraled out of control, he suffered from crippling nightmares, and the suggestion of driving somewhere caused panic attacks. But in his few lucid moments -when his grandparents could reach through the fog- he still talked about his dream of becoming a hero. He went back to therapy, got on good medication (still IS on some of it), and worked with private tutors hired by his grandparents to ensure that any gaps in his education was filled in. In his spare time, he ran, kept training his body and skills and quirk, continued to study physics as best he could despite it not being a major factor of the curriculum that he was supposed to be learning; and most of all learned how to cope with his parent’s death. It wasn’t something he would ever forget, hell he still can’t get in a car without medication (and even then, the ride is miserable); but he hasn’t given up, and he hasn’t stopped moving forward. After all, as long as he can keep up his momentum, he never has to worry about resting… right?

THE ARMORY
The basic Hero Costume that Kyo would be starting school with is actually not all that special in and of itself. It’s a bit of a ‘Gentlemen Steampunk’ look with a vest, tie, hat, trench coat, and lots of ornamentation.
Support Gear:
- Bolo (x2): As part of his costume one would almost think he was carrying pocket watches; but the chains are actually the length between two weights turning them into a bolo for tangling the legs of his targets.
Weapons:
- Shuriken (x20): Throwing “stars” that are shaped to look like gears and range in size from one to three inches in diameter. They are lightweight and strong; but the blunt edge makes them significantly less deadly against live targets.
- Throwing Darts (x12): Each forearm of his trench coat holds 6 of these small darts that have barbed tips which allow them to actually stick into a target once they impact.
- Chakram (x2): Stored at the small of his back, the pair of chakrams are the largest of his weapons. The edges are almost scaled in styled, but it means that depending on the direction of the spin they will either act as “blunt” weapons when they strike, or if the scales are going against the target they’re more like a sawblade. With enough velocity they can even take chunks out of metal and concrete.
QUIRK & SKILLS
INERTIA
TYPE: Emitter
RANK/LEVEL: D
SUMMARY: Despite being called Inertia, Kyo’s Quirk is really about increasing and decreasing the speed of something in motion (including his own body). One could say that he increases velocity, or decreases drag and friction, and the longer something travels after he’s touched it the more speed it will gain. However it’s explained the results are the same.
From a practical perspective (as a First Year Student), his quirk is most evident in his ability to manipulate small objects; and as basic physics states, no matter how small or light something is, the faster it goes the harder the impact when it finally stops. This allows him to pull off tricks like embedding a playing card into a piece of wood, or a throwing dart into a concrete wall.
He can also affect his own body (though in a very limited capacity right now); such as slowing his own falls (allowing him to easily leap from second story windows) or reducing his drag when he runs (allowing him conserve stamina and maybe run a little faster than someone with his physique normally would).
MECHANICS: At this point, Kyo can increase an object's speed by about 50% and decrease it by 25%
The effect only lingers on an object for a short time though ( 2 posts for objects less than a pound, 1 post for objects heavier than a pound); before the laws of physics go back to functioning normally on it.
He is also limited in how much he can use it before it backfires. He has 10 "charges." It costs 1 for small objects (less than 1 lb), 2 for medium objects (less than 20 lbs), and 3 for heavy objects (anything greater than 20 lbs).
WEAKNESSES/LIMITATIONS:
If he uses his quirk too much it backfires and HE starts suffering the effects of lacking friction in his body. Even trying to walk becomes like walking on ice, his hands act like anything he's trying to grasp or hold is covered in soap or oil, and it's very disorienting (and potentially dangerous if he's not careful).
His quirk is limited in two ways:
First, he must touch the object in question for the quirk to take affect.
Second, the laws of gravity and mass still apply. Everything he throws WILL eventually hit something, even it’s the ground at the end of a much longer arc than a human could manage. From the standpoint of hero work, it’s more about hitting targets with objects. If he throws a marble at a wall, the marble can pick up velocity and therefore hit harder than normal person could throw it; but the wall is still going to exert forces on the marble and (in all likelihood) stop it.
This is also why it’s so much harder to use his quirk on himself. It’s easier to calculate the trajectory of a small thrown item (especially when it is meant to be thrown), than it is to calculate how gravity will affect his 150lb body if he were to try and do a long jump. On the other hand, if all he’s doing is slowing his own fall when jumping from 15 - 20 feet (or giving himself a boost to help scale a ledge that is right in front of him), he has much more control.

THROWING
RANK/LEVEL: C-
SUMMARY:
Throwing is the main skill that Kyo utilizes to make his quirk functional and effective. Typical factors apply to effectiveness. The smaller/lighter/and more aerodynamic the object the more precise he can be with it.
PARKOUR
RANK/LEVEL: C
SUMMARY:
He’s no “Assassins Creed,” but he’s been doing Parkour since before he knew it had a name; and for now, it’s pretty much the only way he can use even small benefits from his quirk on himself.
JUDO
RANK/LEVEL: F
SUMMARY:
Between his body type and combat style, Kyo is never going to be a “brawler.” However, as he improves his Quirk control, he could potentially use it to boost the effectiveness of a fighting technique like Judo.
