PERSONALITY
LIKES ReadingLollipops Writing Stories Sleeping | DISLIKES Loud NoisesHeadphones Heavy Things Boastful People |
RUMOR/SECRET: | His tongue got cut off when getting kidnapped. |
Kota favors reading, writing, and silently theorizing, but he truly does not like social interaction and would rather do anything else. He is a mute introvert and sits alone at lunch every day. It's not that nobody likes him, it's just that he chooses to not have friends (the gif above might be misleading). Of course, he is still friendly, but he- and other people- find it is hard to talk, because he won't speak and his quirk muffles close by noise.
Out of school, he is practically the same. He likes to avoid home, and to be honest, his parents don't care. He likes to go to his little hideout and write fictional stories loosely based off his life.
When it comes to heroes, he's lukewarm about them. Sure, they save the world and everything, but they're also annoying and fucking everywhere. Everywhere he goes, he can't avoid them and he finds it highly frustrating.
Overall, Kota is a quiet who only wants the best for himself and everyone in the way he thinks works.
BACKGROUND HISTORY

SIBLINGS: | N/A |

Kota's story begins like any other. He was born, his gender identified, and began to live a nice life, at least in his perspective. His parents were always busy, and barely had any time to even cook dinner. They had one weekend off every month, and even then, they didn't use that time for him. So he grew attached to his daily babysitter, Yua, who was quirkless.
Four years passed, and he was happy. Yua played with him, fed him, watched movies with him, and he was happy living the simple life. But one night, while both of them were sleeping on the couch while his parents were out, they both got kidnapped by two villains. Both of them were tied up when they woke up.
It was hard for both of them. They struggled and tried to break free, but they couldn't. Both of the villains stepped out of the shadows to reveal themselves. The first one was big and brawny, while the other one was small and skinny. As they explained their plan, apparently, they were bait. The heroes knew they were here and were on their way, so with the illusion quirk of the brawny one, the heroes were going to beat up and arrest Kota and Yua.
Yua spat at them. "Ha. Like you'll ever be able to pull it off, you sack of weasels." The villains stopped smirking. "What did you say?" The brawny one said. Yua responded with a giggle, and said, "If you were bright enough to pay attention, you may have heard me."
The skinny villain frowned deeply. "Hush, brat. Or we'll have to hurt you."
"Go ahead, do your worst to me. It's the safety of Kota that I care about," Yua stated. "And again, as I said, there's not much you can do to me. You make fake images-" she pointed to the skinny villain- "and you... what is it you do again?"
The gun was pointed straight at her head and the skinny villain fired.
Kota screamed. The gun was immediately pointed at his head, and he stopped. It didn't fire, and the skinny villain lowered his gun. "That is the last time you will ever scream, child," the brawny one said. "You shall never speak of this." He motioned to the skinny villain. The skinny one touched Kota's head, sending him into a deep sleep.
The sleep was filled with many nightmares, and he swore he could literally feel pain in his tongue as he slept. He woke up to find himself on the same basement floor, a pool of dried blood next to him and his tongue cut short. The villains had taken away his speech.
For the next few hours, his tongue continued to bleed as he quietly wept over his dead babysitter, next to him with a deep crevice in her head and a similar pool of blood on the ground below her. The villains were gone, so it seems like they had aborted their plan to make illusions of them.
Later, a few heroes and police officers arrived, on the hunt for the villains to realize they had vanished and found Kota. They put him back in the custody of his parents where he shut everybody out for the next few months until his quirk started to develop.
Although he didn't care, he did overhear many arguments with his parents with CPS about custody. So they did somewhat care about him after all. In the end, Kota's parents were allowed to keep him, and they hired a new sitter that Kota didn't pay much heed too.
Preschool was rough, because not only could he not speak, but all the other children were pushy. Asking personal questions about his past. Not understanding very well when the teacher told them he couldn't speak. Eventually, people gave up because of his refusal (and lack) to talk and because of his developing quirk.
Because of his busy parents, he never got officially tested for a quirk, but people knew it was there. Kota, in first grade, wrote on the whiteboard that he called his quirk "Reading Space," and so everybody went along with it.
A few years passed by, and not much changed. In third grade, he developed his passion in writing. In fifth grade, he began embracing other stories rather than just his own.
In sixth grade, they went on a field trip to go visit a famous hero, or something. Kota didn't really care. But he soon did care when he got there and figured out the hero was super boastful, telling his work like they were delicate trophies. He talked as if he was go great, and that the people he saved were under his level. This greatly offended Kota. There is no way he could live up to Yua, who gave her life for him. She was the true hero. He got up out of his seat suddenly, and everyone paused for a second, even the hero. He grapped a slip of paper and a paper from his pocket, wrote a little message, and then walked forward. No one protested when he shoved the message straight at the hero's chest. People did gasp, though, when Kota kicked him in the crotch and sprinted away.
He wasn't sure how everyone reacted, because he was back in the bus before anyone could catch him. But on the note, he wrote, "You think you're so great? You'll never live up to the people who actually care for other's lives."
The next day, Kota and his parents were dragged into the principal's office, where the principal yelled at both him and his parents for how disrespectful he was. Since his parents weren't there for him much, they didn't defend him very well, and in the end, he ended up getting expelled.
Enrolled in another middle school, he began seventh grade. Again, not much changed. One day, when he was walking from school to the local library, he caught a glimpse of something in the woods. Traveling further in, he saw an abandoned treehouse. Climbing up the old, knotted rope and up into the creaky wooden structure, he saw it was abandoned. He came back from school every day after that for a week to confirm it. Everything stayed in place. He claimed it as his own little hideout just for him.
And now Kota does eighth grade. You'll probably find him reading at lunchtime, not quite ready for everything thrown his way.

QUIRK & SKILLS
Reading Space
TYPE: Emitter
RANK/LEVEL: E
SUMMARY:
Kota has a special aura that can mute any sounds within a three foot radius. This includes all sound within that radius, footsteps, loud crashing, even speaking. This does not include any noise outside the radius, which can still be heard when inside the radius, therefore only nullifying any noise inside the radius.
WEAKNESSES/LIMITATIONS:
Kota cannot turn off his quirk. Because of this, he generally has less energy for physical activity than an average human, about 2-3 posts of physical activity before he gets tired.
