THE BASICS

PHYSICAL APPEARANCE

Carina isn't very muscular and has light skin. Her face is fairly unremarkable, expect for the whites of her eyes, which are black and she has around shoulder long black hair usually kept open or in a ponytail. The hero student prefers to wear comfortable clothes rather then stylish ones. She normally wears comfortable jeans and a slightly too big shirt or pullover. On Carinas left pinky finger is a thin scar from an accident with a knife.

PERSONALITY

Carina is a friendly but shy person who is hesitant in reaching out to others. This doesn’t stop her from helping anyone, no matter how minor the help, whether its holding a book or helping someone study.
While she has trouble getting close to people she values her friends highly. Carina has no trouble listening to her friends and giving, sometimes a bit awkward, advice, and enjoys talking with them about whatever is currently on her mind.
The hero in training has a habit of assuming the best in most people. An exception to this are people who heavily go against her principles and harm her or others who she has no problem to assume the worst of.
Carina is very anxious about what others think of her and as a result of this sometimes reacts very strongly to criticism.
Underneath her shy and friendly side however lies a core of steel. Carina doesn’t compromise on what she believes in and will stand her ground for her principles, despite her anxiety. If she really needs to get something done she does it despite what other might think of her, going at her task with an air of ‘not caring about anons opinion’. She has a deep dislike for bullies and tends to confront them.
Carina loves to learn new things and likes to read books, particularly fantasy.

BACKGROUND HISTORY

Carina was born and raised in Germany. Her mother worked as a dance teacher and had a quirk that allowed her to control light and shadows and shape them, while her father could harden anything he touched for a short time and worked as an engineer in. Carinas brother, Tim, is three years older then her and has the quirk to create small shards of hardened light.
Carina lived in an apartment on the outskirts of her city, close to a small park frequented by a flock of ravens that she could watch from the window of her room. The girl loved to watch the black birds fly around and more then once asked if she could have one as a pet. Shortly before her 5th birthday her quirk manifested in the form of Carina creating a weak shadow raven. Carinas quirk was only fueled by her love for animals and she would take every opportunity she got to drag her family to a zoo to watch the animals there.
The child often met her uncle Linus Schurz, who was a pro hero under the name of ‘Duststar’. The two were pretty close and Linus taught Carina many of his philosophies and reasons for becoming a hero. This sparked her desire to help people, perhaps even by becoming a hero herself.
While Carinas grades were fairly good, she was often an outsider and not frequently socializing with her classmates. Despite this, she made a few friends which she would hang out with.
When Carina was around 12 her father found a better job opportunity in japan and the girl, her brother and their parents moved to a city in the Shizuoka Prefecture. Carina felt isolated here and threw herself into learning Japanese as quickly as she could to not stand out too much and if possible make some new friends. Over time, Carina realized that her wish to help people could very well become reality, with U.A. High being not far away, opening the possibility for her to be a hero. Tim has recently moved back to Germany, he and Carina still stay in contact tough.

THE ARMORY

Carinas hero costume is held in dark gray allowing her to hide in the shadows. It consists of light body armor that is capable of withstanding knifes and small caliber bullets. She has a belt with several pouches that allows her to store things like flashlights or first aid kits.
Light sensitive sunglasses: Control how much light reaches Carinas eyes, allowing her to see well even in bright environments.

Animal shadow

SUMMARY:
Carina is capable of creating animals out of shadows. These animals look like their real life counterpart in shape but are black and dark gray colored. They have the same abilities as the real animal, such as strength or speed, however they can’t produce substances the actual animals could, such as toxins or properly utilize abilities such as echolocation. Carina is capable of controlling these creatures at will. The creatures are normally nothing but shadows with only enough strength to barely move a few sheets of paper at most and any contact is barely felt. If Carina focuses on them they become much more solid and can interact with the world more. So can the teeth of a shadow tiger tear trough flesh or a horse carry a human. The shadow beasts can be slightly increased or decreased in size, depending on how much shadow is available. The more shadow is around her, the more, stronger, and bigger animals can Carina create. The hero in training can also create swarms of small shadow animals, which all act in a similar manner and are controlled as a swarm, not individually. If the shadows are solid Carina can sometimes experience brief flashes of their senses, such as the sight of their eyes, sounds that only they could hear or even sensations or smells.
Before Carina can create an animal she has to know how that animal looks and moves. Keeping an animal in complex motion, like a running horse, requires Carina to stay concentrated on that animal and it’s movement.

The hero in training can currently create 3 shadow animals at the same time and she needs shadows that is at least as big as whatever animal she is creating. Her shadows last for 3 post. At her current level, Carina can create only animals up to the size of a person and swarms count as how big their size combined is. How many creatures and of what size she can create with the available shadow can be tracked by a point system. Carina has 12 points available at the start of each thread and creating her animals costs points. Any creature, no matter the size, that isn’t solid costs her 0.5 points to create and has the same post and size limitations as her solid creature. Creating a solid shadow animal the size of a rabbit costs her 1 point, the size of a dog 2, 4 for a medium sized horse and 5 for a bear although she can’t create these yet.

Right now Carinas connection with her creatures is still weak and a stronger connection might greatly enhance her ability to not only allow her shadows to remain physical, but also to better control them and the sensory flashes she gets from them.


WEAKNESSES/LIMITATIONS:
Concentration: In order to give her animals a solid form, Carina has to concentrate on them. While mere shadow depictions require barely any effort, allowing them to interact with the world requires Carina to at least partially focus on them. If she can’t focus, her shadows are nothing more then a brief distraction at most
Animal limit: Carina can only create animals she knows the movement and appearance of. The animals are made of shadows, so they animals stay weak and small when there are barely any shadows around.
Overuse: If Carina hits her limit of 12 points results in her sight having a hard time adapting to changes in light for around 5 posts. This means that her eyes can’t adapt to changing light levels, forcing her to close her eyes in brighter environments and leaving her blind in the dark.
If she continues further she also gets strong headaches that can persists even after she stopped using her power and she will eventually pass out if she goes more then 3 points over her limit
Creature perspective: The flashes of her shadow creatures senses, while having the potential to be possibly utilized, can also provide a great risk. Carina can get easily distracted by them or disoriented for a few seconds, which can quickly become a huge problem in a fight.

SUMMARY:
Carina speaks three languages, German, English and Japanese. She grew up with German as her mother tongue and can speak and write it fluently with no difficulty, like any other person at her age could. She has also learned English and can also speak and write it, albeit not as good as German. She has a slightly above average school level of the language, due to her often reading or watching books/movies in English and using it when she doesn’t know how to say something in Japanese.
Carina has been living for 3 Years in Japan and has learned to understand and speak the language. She still struggles with it however and has a hard time pronouncing some words correctly or understanding and using common expressions. Her love for reading means that she can actually read fairly well, although her writing is not always perfectly readable.

SUMMARY:
Carina is a fairly good artist with a talent for capturing motion. She started drawing very early in her childhood and continued to improve her skills. She is very good in drawing animals, but struggles with landscapes or machinery and also has often problems with depicting humans. She prefers to draw with pen and paper and is able to make a sketch of something she sees fairly quick and accurately.
