RUMOR/SECRET: | Although Achroma is a known villain, there have been rumors of heroes hiring him for their gear. Through official means, heroes are legally required to sign and submit documentation, but those who are willing to use more underhanded methods to get ahead turn to him for a paperless method of obtaining regulation-breaking equipment. Who knows how many heroes have succumbed to this promise for power? |
Who knows what goes on inside the cryptic doctor's head, as he displays that constant warm smile, even while describing the most atrocious of crimes in vivid detail? He cares not for the limits of morality and the bounds of conscience - only the event horizon of reaching one's fullest power. Your quirk has different effects based on what you've eaten? Have you ever considered cannibalism? You can manipulate small electric currents? Why not try to imitate muscular impulses or even go for tricking the human brain? Nothing is beyond him so long as it is in the name of progress. Carpe Diem!
On the surface, Achroma is a good listener and a passionate speaker. He doesn't care for the needless restriction of morality when it comes to seeking your true potential, and he will happily endorse breaking law and ethics on your path to your own peak performance. The one standard he upholds, and refuses to ever break, is his value of confidentiality. He will never reveal the personal or sensitive information others in his pursuit for knowledge. He may gather it for his own means, but never to benefit anyone else other than himself. His clients are given numeric IDs to differentiate them, and he never stores anyone's identities in any of his databases - he relies only on his own memory.
Achroma firmly believes that technology's refusal to advance as quirks began to develop was a mistake. He thinks that in order to unlock humanity's true potential, the tools they use should progress with them. He makes no secret that he is, by legal definition, a villain and a criminal - he simply doesn't care. Whoever comes to him with the proper funding and willpower has an equal chance to profit from his less-than-legal freelance enterprise.
Although money is valuable to him in the form of buying the necessary components for his creations, he values information above all else and holds his own wisdom as his greatest asset. While out on the field, he dodges the resistance of heroes and good-aligned vigilantes alike, all the while calmly taking notes on attack patterns and weaknesses. Even if you don't willingly approach him to cover for your own weaknesses, he will be researching you. In his mind, it is only a matter of time before your ambition grows beyond what your current moral standards prohibit.
BACKGROUND HISTORY
PLACE OF BIRTH/HOMETOWN: | Reykjavik, Iceland |
PARENTS: | Agnes and Steinn (Both Deceased) |
SIBLINGS: | N/A |
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: | N/A |
OTHER: | N/A |
Lárus considers his childhood to be the most boring part of his own life. He was born into a rather privileged and wealthy position, in the capital of Iceland, and was raised as the only child of his mother Agnes and father Steinn. His mother was able to cause people to hallucinate by touching them physically, and his father could create and shine light from his hands. He lived comfortably, yet uneventfully.
He never understood his mother's decision making all that well, and when he was twelve, she was severely injured during a villain attack. A simple blood transfusion could have saved her, but in the end, she refused on account of her own personal beliefs. It would have been so easy to make the choice to preserve her own life... he didn't have any respect for her conviction, nor her dedication. He saw only a waste of potential. Holding his father's hand, he couldn't find it in himself to even grieve.
After that day, he grew quiet, devoting himself to his studies, particularly in engineering and biology. It frustrated him how outdated most scholarly articles on technology were. ' Why would we as a people decide to be stagnant, even if we are now too individualistic to realistically create a one-size-fits-all solution? ' When he was old enough, he transferred to a high school specializing in the development of quirk-assisting technologies. Software Development was the most fascinating to him, while Professional Ethics was the least.
Fast forward to the end of his later education in college, he was having difficulty submitting a thesis proposal to earn his doctorate. Most ideas he had were unorthodox at best and entirely immoral at worst. But what use was sticking to pre-existing rules? How else are we to abandon the dark ages of technology, than to embrace its fullest potential? But he succeeded eventually, the pinnacle of his legal research being the following: How can technology benefit an entire society at once, the quirkless and the polymorphic alike? What can be done to make it benefit everyone? This was the final paper submitted under his birth name. From now on, he was making himself anew.
Who knew when his father passed? Certainly not him - once he graduated with his funding, he no longer kept in contact. He was preoccupied with getting the funding for his own research without relying on such useless things as regulation and documentation. He decided his time would be best spent traveling, picking up other languages and interesting tidbits of culture along the way. But most importantly, he encountered a plethora of new quirks and met so many more intelligent minds like his own. Why would he sit still for long?
This is how he found himself in Japan, to this day. It seemed that the country itself was the epicenter of so many great heroes, and even greater villains. Why shouldn't the power hungry, privilege abusing heroes be allowed to stretch the limits of their power over others? Why shouldn't villains pursue their own convictions with their underhanded tactics? So long as they paid him, he turned a blind eye.
The name ' Dr. Achroma ' will live in infamy...
THE ARMORY
ACHROMATIC WEARABLE CONSOLE (AWC) x1
This is the coat that Achroma is near constantly wearing, only removing for personal hygiene or to sleep. Inside the coat is a supercomputer dispersed evenly throughout the fabric, capable of storage up to 2 TB and a memory of 32 GB. It has visual interfaces on the sleeves, where he can look at the displays and interact with the glass touchscreen panels. The outside is covered with the material of a bulletproof vest to protect himself and the computer parts located within. The inside is temperature controlled and regulated, providing cooler or warmer air depending on the climate he is currently in. His gloves have sensors that can read the temperature of what he touches and can detect a heartbeat if he holds their hand for long enough or specifically searches for a pulse. The display on his right arm, by default, shows the current ambient temperature of the world around him, the temperature of the inside of the suit, his own heartbeat, the heartbeat of someone else he physically interacts with using his gloves (if any), a movement detection radar, and a small square for him to write notes to himself. (When tapped, a keyboard is displayed.) The radar operates using sensors embedded into the suit itself, around his collar, and operates at a 10 foot radius - the same distance his quirk is allowed to operate with a single hand. The left arm's console, by default, shows a variety of icons for applications the suit can perform. So far, he has an internet browser, an audio and video recorder (connected to his glasses), a simple measurement converter, a control panel for setting what mode his glasses are in, and for some reason, an arcade emulator outfitted with Pong and Pac-Man.
The suit refuses to operate or turn on unless it is being worn, and it only activates if it detects the glass beads embedded in his palms. This can be fooled if these glass beads are imitated, however, but will once again turn off if it no longer detects them. Good luck operating the suit even if it turns on, though - there is no instruction manual and only Achroma himself knows how to work it entirely. The interface language display is locked to Icelandic, as well. There is a charging port located on the inside, behind the neck.
The suit connects via USB to his supercomputer located at his home, and from there can transfer whatever data it collected since last connection and video/audio it recorded through the glasses.
ACHROMATIC CONSOLE VISUAL PERIPHERAL (ACVP) x1
His glasses are a peripheral to the console, able to record vision, audio through small microphones on either side, and detect Achroma's line of sight. The glass itself performs augmented reality projections and alerts Achroma of any movement that his suit detects, and can provide someone's bodily measurements decently accurately, given he is close enough to them. They have several different modes- unobtrusive, making them just a normal pair of glasses - AR, showing him live data fed from his suit - infrared, allowing him to see thermal energy - and night vision, for operating in the dark. The glasses are connected to the suit through bluetooth, and are activated by a small button in the middle. There is a charging port on the right edge of the rims.

HOLOGRAM
ーホログラムー
TYPE: Emitter
RANK/LEVEL: B+
SUMMARY:
Achroma can use the glass balls embedded in the skin of his palms to project a visage of his choosing. These projections are capable of looking realistic, but only under the conditions that they were either based on a very recent memory, or he spent time personally crafting every minute detail of the figure. It would take him at least a month to create a ten second projection capable of fooling people with average vision at a close distance. The visage must be within 10 feet of him, and the path from his palm to the projection must be unobstructed. They will disappear if something gets in the way. He is capable of producing audio, but the audio emits from his hands and he cannot change the source. His radius increases to 30 feet if he uses both hands at once, and it also means the illusion will not disappear if a single hand is obstructed - only if both are, or if one is obstructed while the illusion is further than 10 feet away. The projection can be of any size as long as it fits in this radius around the palm of his hand or hands. The radius extends outward in a cone, not in a circle, as he cannot project from the backs of his hands.

The radius extends outward in a cone, not in a circle, as he cannot project from the backs of his hands.
If the projection is either not based on a recent memory or happened too long ago, the visage will begin to flicker and the color will not be as vibrant, defaulting to a shade of blue reminiscent of his hair streak. At its worst, it will appear translucent, entirely blue, and flicker with the frequency of an old used movie tape. He has an easier time projecting two dimensional creations, which must be resting against a wall or other flat object.
WEAKNESSES/LIMITATIONS:
Although he is capable of projecting recent vivid memories very realistically on the fly, doing so too frequently causes that memory to become more hazy to him, thus weakening the realism of the projection. He can completely forget that something happened if he tries to project it too many times. Fake visions he made up on his own do not fade in the same way, although they take a lot of time for him to craft and cannot be made on the spot, unless they are two dimensional and very simple. (Imagine how long it takes to sketch or draw something by hand. You could do a stick figure doodle relatively quickly, but to draw something that looks convincingly like a photograph would take much longer.)

Even if the projection he creates is flawlessly accurate, the illusion is easily discerned if the lighting in the area is too dark, as the projection emits a very slight amount of light itself and does not disappear in the shadows. The light emission is comparable to a phone screen at its lowest brightness setting - too little to notice while under the sun, but obvious in complete darkness.
The projection cannot be touched, no matter what, as it is merely an illusion of light. Projections of people are not conscious and are incapable of replying, and any attempt Achroma makes to have the projection react naturally will come across as mediocre at best. Anything physical would simply go right through it. Trying to put your eyes in the middle of a projection will simply give your vision a light blue tint and is not bright enough to cause blindness.
If he stops focusing on an illusion, or he cannot see it himself (i.e. his eyes are closed), it is still visible, but it may glitch or waver in realism. Attempting to view a hologram through a more fine lens (by using technology like a microscope or a vision enhancement quirk) reveals that it is not accurate on a molecular level and is only as clear as Achroma's own vision.

RANK/LEVEL: B+
SUMMARY:
Using the 'AR Mode' of his glasses, staring at one person long enough will give him live feedback. This includes measuring the person's current velocity, potential acceleration, and predictions of where a moving object will appear and when. This allows him to dodge most possible attacks. However, because these calculations must be done so quickly, it relies on algorithmic predictions and doesn't record and learn from existing data. This prediction is only useful if a person acts predictably in the first place, but it gives him the intuition to get out of the way of most thoughtless incoming forces.

RANK/LEVEL: C
SUMMARY:
While holding someone's hand, his glove gives him live feedback of that person's heart rate and body temperature. He can review this information and make a judgment on whether or not that person could have been lying to him. However, this is only about as accurate as a polygraph test and can be fooled if you know how to avoid it.SUMMARY:
