A shriek could be heard from the women's communal bath -- loud and horrified, it spelled disaster for any who dared pass by. Had someone been hurt? Was there a break-in? What could be so terrible so as to prompt such a horrid sound on a relatively innocuous, mellow Thursday Night?
The answer lay in the reflection splayed across the mirror. Chiura stared in horror at her reflection; she was clad, for the first time, in her hero costume, and the resulting silhouette was not exactly what she had been hoping for.
She didn't understand. She had been very specific in her instructions! She had included everything that they had asked for: measurements to ensure proper fit, quirk details to ensure a costume that suited her particular heroic needs, even the sort of combat styles that she prefered and planned to specialize in. Sure, she had left it to the designers themselves to come up with a theme to fit the functions that she had requested. But this? THIS?!
The black bustier was outlined in gold trim, with little tassles that hung from the band that clung so tightly to the space between her second and third ribs. The fauld fit over her serpentine waist perfectly, and the veil helped to conceal her fangs and forked tongue. It was, by all accounts, exactly what she had asked for; something that focused on flexibility and maneuverability over protection. It was something that made her more aesthetically pleasing -- the sort of thing that would make people look on in something other than fear.
The designers had certainly done their job, and it was Chiura's absolute worst nightmare.
Chiura looked back in the mirror a second time, cracking her serpentine eyelids and peering out with those eerie yellow, reflective orbs. Maybe she had been overcritical on first glance. Maybe it wasn't that bad after--
Nope. Definitely that bad. DEFINITELY that bad. A second scream echoed through the dorm.

| The sound of a scream rang through the air of the dorms as Ryu was walking towards the exit. He had just gotten done studying some homework with another classmate and was going to be on his way home for the evening when he heard the sound of a womans voice cry out in absolute terror. The scream sounded familiar. Though Ryu could not really place who it belonged to. He had begun walking towards the scream with quickened pace, eventually making it to the female dorms. His ears twitched a bit as he tried to listen for the sounds of anyone moving, before he heard a second scream. This time he was able to identify the owner of the voice. Chiura, the kind snake girl he'd met not too long ago. He raised his hand after stopping at her door, and knocked. But then he'd speak, rather loudly so she could hear him through the door. "Chiura-chan? It's Ryu. Are you okay? I heard some screams." He really didn't want to have to knock down the door if she was actually in trouble, but he figured asking couldn't hurt. And he was sure UA wouldn't punish him for helping another student if they were in danger. [break][break]
That was, of course, assuming that the doors were locked. Even if it wasn't Ryu wasn't the type to just barge into someone elses room. And so he stood at the door, still wearing his UA uniform for the day of course, and waited, crimson eyes scanning the door and his ears listening for the sounds of any slithering he might pick up on.

And now there was a voice at the door to the womens' restroom -- a male voice, because of course it was, and one that she recognized from a few interactions since she had arrived here at U.A. "S-Sato-san! PLEASE do not come in, everything is fine!" She realized in retrospect that the situation seemed rather dire; her lungs were a fair bit larger than usual (more muscles? More oxygen), and that meant her screams packed one heck of a punch when she didn't check her volume. It made sense that she had alarmed someone walking by.
In the moment, she couldn't help but wish she did not attend a hero academy like U.A. Why couldn't she have just gone to a normal boarding school, where none of the students were brave or industrious enough to run towards potential danger? Now here she was, wrapped in this ridiculous getup with only a thin wooden door standing between her and supreme shame. "S-Seriously! Everything's under control. So y-y-you can just -- thanks for your concern! I'll be okay!"

| Chiura responded loudly to his question, saying she was fine. The shaky tones of her voice accompanied with the loudness of her volume suggested the opposite was the case. But she had requested that he not enter. And considering she was in the ladies bathroom, Ryu really didn't have any argument to go against that. He wasn't just about to barge into the ladies room unless he knew something was wrong. But then another thought popped into his head -- he knew a womans biology well enough to know why they might suddenly run to the bathroom. But Chiura still sounded distraught, and Ryu couldn't just leave her like this and feel comfortable with doing that. [break][break]
So he scratched his head for a moment before another idea popped into his head. He'd speak up again. "Are you sure? You sound nervous, like you've seen a ghost. I can text Aoi-sensei to come help you if you need." He figured Chiura would be far more comfortable with another girl helping her than him, which of course was sound reasoning. Ryu leaned against the wall next to the door, just in case Chiura decided to come out, to avoid being smacked in the face.

Post by Isamu Suzuki on Aug 19, 2019 7:08:18 GMT
Isamu had been studying up in his room, relaxing—relatively speaking—after a long day’s worth of classes and training. Even though he had just spent a day on academics, studying on his own was somewhat relaxing, without any other distracting scents and sounds around to draw his attention. Besides, he had to keep up his grades to increase the odds of a hero agency recruiting him out of school if he failed to make an impression in another way, such as at the sports festival. That and, well, he had let his grades slip in middle school, so he had to make sure he didn’t fall into old habits.
Of course, just being by himself in his room didn’t mean that he was completely out of touch with the goings on around him. He could still hear people shuffling around outside his room, or stray bits of chatter coming from his open window as people passed by outside, but he could tune most of it out…
But not the bloodcurdling scream that cut through relative silence. He started, craning his head this way and that trying to figure out where it had come from. Outside? No, it wasn’t clear enough. It had to have been inside, and there were three whole floors of dorms to search. He started playing through the possibilities in his head as he shoved his phone in his pocket and raced out the door. Nothing out of the ordinary up here. He charged the stairs, jumping down to the mid-floor landing and again to the second floor. No, nothing here. On to the first floor.
Taking all of the last set of stairs in a single leap, Isamu slammed into the ground on all fours before springing forwards into a full-on run. He skidded to a stop next to Ryu when he saw where he was standing. “Sato-san! Did you hear where that scream came from? What’s wrong? Is someone injured? Should we call for the school nurse?” He stood up, sniffing at the air as he pulled his phone from his pocket. No blood, that’s a good start at least. But he didn’t dial for anyone yet until Ryu filled him in a little more on what was going on.

Another voice had joined Ryu’s in voicing its imminent concerns. A part of Chiura was grateful for the willingness of her friends and classmates to rush to the site of potential danger. Though unlikely, there were things that could have happened there in the bathroom that would have prompted such a scream and warranted a more dramatic response. Perhaps she could have electrocuted herself or managed to knock herself out… Somehow. Then the two boys’ willingness to leap into the fray would have been very much welcome.
Today, though? Their presence made things infinitely worse. Chiura slithered up to the front of the door, desperately hoping that nobody else would appear. ”It’s fine, it’s fine!” she said. ”I just gave myself a bit of a fright… It’s – goodness. Well, I suppose I can show you. Everyone else will see it soon anyway. Just… Don’t laugh, okay?”
She didn’t wait for an answer; she had to do this before she lost her nerve. She threw open the door and slithered out, looking pale and ashen all the while. ”M-My hero costume came in,” she stammered by way of explanation. ”It’s… Not exactly what I asked for. But I guess I wasn’t specific enough… And when I saw it on me, it gave me quite the fright, and I just. Well.” She gestured vaguely towards the bathroom. “You heard what happened, I guess.”
Chiura braced herself for the reactions of Ryu and -- Isamu, she realized belatedly. That almost made things worse. Ryu she knew decently well; she was certain that he wouldn't be too offended by the situation. But she didn't know Isamu very well at all.

| As Isamu came down the hallway while Ryu was holding his phone getting ready to text Aoi, Ryu turned his head. He nodded to Isamu in greeting, but before he got the chance to answer the cat boys questions Chiura spoke up again. She said she had merely startled herself. An understatement, Ryu had thought. But at least she was in no real danger. That calmed him. His body relaxed against the wall, no longer holding in the tense pose it was as Chiura slithered out of the door. She had explained that it was her new hero costume, and she asked them not to laugh.[break][break]
Laughing was the last thing on Ryus mind when he saw her. She slithered out, stomach bare and face hidden behind the veil. She looked like a western belly dancer. Ryu was, to be frank, quite stunned. He had always thought she was a pretty girl, but to see her showing so much of herself after hanging out with her where she wore conservative clothes so often... it was a shocker. Not to mention it seemed to accentuate her... assets. His heart rate quickened, blood flushing to his cheeks has his brain struggled to find the words to speak. He looked her up and down before he managed to snap himself out of his daze.[break][break]
"Laugh? Are you crazy?" He teased. "You look fantastic!" Granted he had a few problems with the idea of a 'hero suit' that protected so little, it just seemed inconvenient, but it wasn't Ryus place to say anything about it. It was her problem to worry about. But to each their own. He didn't know enough about her quirk to judge. He smiled a warm smile at her, not really sure what else to add. "What scared you about it?" He was genuinely curious, but he had a good suspicion already. She probably just wasn't used to wearing something so bold.

Isamu frowned a little as Chiura insisted that she was fine, and then revealed herself in… what he hoped was a hero outfit.
Well, he couldn’t immediately see anything wrong with the form or the fit, the design was… not what he would have chosen, but apparently it hadn’t been what their esteemed class representative had chosen, either. He’d given a lot of thought to stealth and mobility, and submitted his instructions accordingly. Although admittedly his had ended up rather plain…
Chiura’s was at least memorable, and had a definite style, and a unique look to it. “Looks like the designers did a good job with your costume. I’m assuming you were emphasizing flexibility and ease of movement?” His once over was much more critical, more studying the costume itself rather than the girl wearing it. Still, the other student’s reaction didn’t escape his notice, although he didn’t bring it up or point it out in any way.
“You know, I heard you up on the third floor,” he said, finally relaxing and putting his phone away. “You’re our class representative. You should try to maintain your composure a little better, to set an example for the rest of the class.” Not that he was insensitive to the issues that came with a radically different appearance, given his own issues in that department, but even so… you had to learn to be a little more confident at some point. “If you really don’t like it, I’m sure the costume designers can redesign it, but I agree with Sato-san. That costume would serve you well if you decided to keep it.”

Well, neither of them had laughed. Or pointed and stared (mostly). That did go a fair way towards calming Chiura down. She flashed the pair a sheepish, fanged smile, a hand working nervous fingers through her thick red hair as she tried to catch her breath and appreciate the mundanity of the situation relative to the expectation her shrieking had set.
”You’re right, you’re right,” she said, bowing in apparent apology towards Isamu in particular. ”It really isn’t becoming of me to behave in such a way. Still, I was just – ugh. I emphasized the need for flexibility and movement, and left the theme up to the design department… I suppose this is what I get.” She hadn’t been thrilled about the (obvious) requirement that she hand over her measurements to the design team. It made sense, of course – a hero suit had to fit – but this was the exact sort of thing she had been afraid of.
As for what frightened me – I am very much not used to showing so much of myself. Usually I try to keep as much of me under some layer of clothing as possible… It tends to make people on the streets stare less. It’s – normalizing, you know? But there’s very little normal about this…” She shrugged her shoulders. ”One of my professors recently suggested that I ‘embrace my abnormality”. I get where she was coming from, but this just seems like a bridge and a half too far…” She chuckled, shrugging her shoulders. It was meant as a joke, though it didn’t really come off as one.
