RUMOR/SECRET: | I hear he's never even stepped foot in a school before. I hear that he's in some kind of gang. Well, I heard that he almost got killed by a hero. Nah, that's all fake, he's just a kid that's trying to look tough. |
So what happens when one of the most talkative people in the world suddenly loses their ability to speak? Not a whole lot, as it turns out. In spite of the incident that robbed him of his voice Hiro remains incredibly social, making up for his lack of vocalization by being extremely emotive with his expressions and gestures. He is a rather brash young man with a habit of getting himself both into and out of trouble. Those that try to talk sense into him will find him rather stubborn, as once he's made up his mind about something, he seldom changes it.
Having grown up in the streets, Hiro never had a chance at a formal education, but what he lacks in book smarts, he makes up for with a notably sharp wit. Although he has a habit of diving head first into trouble, he is a fast learner and is quite capable of thinking on his feet. The fact that he acts like a fool so often makes people frequently underestimate him in this department, but when it comes down to the wire he just as often proves them wrong.
To call Hiro a villain is probably a bit much. Has he committed crimes? Sure. Has he ruffled a bunch of feathers? Definitely. Does he cause trouble? Always. But at the end of the day he's just a kid that was born into this life without a choice in the matter. He's never known anything else. That being said, he's not exactly keen on changing his entire way of life just because someone asked him to, and the world's given him some pretty good reasons to stay just the way he is
The nature of the incident that destroyed his voice has given Hiro an incredible bias against Vigilantes and those that are a bit too enthusiastic about preaching their own ideas of personal justice. In his eyes they're nothing but hypocrites, and although he's not one for undue violence, there's at least one individual that he would very much like to introduce to the ground.

I'm not really much for keeping a diary, but well, a friend of mine said that writing might help out. Something about being an outlet to help me get the words out... Hell if I understand what any of that psycho babble means, but I guess there's no harm in giving it a shot. Might as well start at the beginning I suppose. My name's Hiro. Yep, just Hiro. About fifteen and a half years ago I got dumped on the front step of the Hawks. The boss told me that some guy by the name of Kamisaki asked him to look after me. Don't even know if the guy was my dad or not, don't really care honestly, either way he was an old friend of the boss, so he agreed to take me in. That's how all this started.
Now, the Hawks are what most people would call a gang of thugs that can get all sorts of things done if you pay them enough. Not the greatest reputation in the world, sure, but hey; that's my family for you. There were six of us in total; Ryuji was the boss' right hand, Saki was the brains, Lee was the muscle, and Hari was the ghost. Well, once she grew into at least, girl was only a few years older than me. Anyway, this band of right misfits took it upon themselves to raise a kid, and I gotta say it was one hell of a ride. I never had any real schooling, but they taught me what I needed to know to survive, and since I'm still here they must have gotten at least part of it right. How the hell they managed that, I'll never know.
Anyway, I'll be the first to admit this family of mine has done some questionable things. Hell, so have I. We were thieves, thugs, hired muscle, couriers, debt collectors, whatever people paid us to be really. Our jobs weren't always pretty, and even I have done some things that I'm not proud of, but that's how you survive out here. Not like Heroes are gonna come and hand out cash so that you can buy yourself food... Still, the Boss drew a line in the sand when it came to the sorts of work we did. Maybe we roughed some people up, but that's about as bad as it ever got. It can get pretty messed up out there, but the Boss made sure to keep us all on the right side of the street. We were still just people doing what we needed to survive, not villains offing people just to get some attention.
It's a real shame that some people just don't understand the distinction.
About a year ago now, we were on a job for one of the local loan sharks. Pretty standard contract, just collect the money and be done with it, no big deal. 'cept after we finish and we're on our way back, some guy comes outta nowhere and ambushes us in the alley. He got the drop on us and I... really don't remember too well what happened to be honest. I saw the shadow and heard Saki shout, and then there was a bright flash. The next thing I know, I wake up in an alley covered in blood and with a few nice big chunks of metal stuck in me. Hari was out cold next to me, but Lee, Saki, and Ryuji were... god it was a mess. Thinking back, I'm not really sure how me and Hari made it, but I have to assume the Boss did something, because he and the bastard that attacked us weren't there at the time.
When sis came to, she managed to drag my arse to a doctor and get patched up, but there's only so much you can do about shrapnel to the windpipe. Can't talk any more, which is why I'm writing this thing in the first place. Anyway, they found the Boss' body the next day, at a warehouse two blocks away from where we got hit. Saw the pictures later. If the alley had been a mess, that place was an absolute disaster. Based on the evidence, they figured out the one who did it was some former hero that blew his lid and started shouting about corruption and taking justice in his own hand. Just another lunatic if you ask me.
Of course, the police weren't about to shed any tears about a couple of thugs getting offed, so their investigation didn't exactly go in depth... And that just left me and Hari to pick up the pieces and go on surviving. It hasn't been easy, but we're getting there, taking it day by day and doing what we need to do. As far as I know they never caught the guy, but Boss taught us better than to go throw our lives away on something as stupid as revenge. Still, if I ever see the guy again, he damn well better be ready, because we've got a score to settle.

THE ARMORY
*{Costume}
* 6 knives
* A pocket full of coins
* 2 sets of brass knuckles
Hiro's on-the-job attire isn't anything so fancy to be called a suit or a costume. At the end of the day, its just some normal clothes that he modified to help him do his job better. He wears a sturdy hooded jacket and a leather harness on his upper body, and a pair of carpenter pants with some loose chains attached and a pair of work boots on his lower body. These have all had some extra leather padding attached for a bit of added armor, but beyond that and a few hidden pockets, the clothing is largely mundane. About the only thing that sticks out about his outfit is a mask fashioned after the skull of a hawk that he uses to keep hit face hidden.
* 10 feet of chain* 6 knives
* A pocket full of coins
* 2 sets of brass knuckles
QUIRK & SKILLS
Manic Metallurgy
TYPE: Emitter
RANK/LEVEL: D
SUMMARY:
Hiro's body possesses the unique ability to emit a sort of electromagnetic wave that can alter the composition of metals. More simply put, it allows him to change a metal's state of matter at will. For example he could turn a steel girder to liquid, or turn a pool of molten iron to gas. While normally such state changes involve a large amount of energy or change in temperature, when effected by Hiro's quirk the metal's physical state remains otherwise unchanged for the most part. The pulses his body emits have a maximum effective range of about 5 feet and allow him to passively detect any metal with his influence. If a metal that he has altered leaves this radius it soon returns to its natural state, completely reverting after a period of about 3 posts. Note that this does not mean the metal will return to its original shape, just that its matter state returns to what it was. With his current abilities, Hiro can only manage to change a material's state up to a single step from its natural form (solid to liquid, liquid to gas, etc).
WEAKNESSES/LIMITATIONS:
Hiro's quirk has three primary weaknesses. The first is its rather obvious short range. Limited to only five feet, Hiro essentially has to be within arms reach in order to have any effect at all. Second, his abilities are entirely reliant on having material around to manipulate. If he is caught somewhere without any metal nearby, he is effectively powerless. It should be noted that while many objects contain trace amounts of metal inside them, something must be primarily composed of it in order to be effected by Hiro's quirk (For instance, no messing around with people's blood). Finally, Hiro's quirk uses his own body's iron stores as its fuel, and so extended usage creates effects resembling those of anemia, with paling skin, lightheadedness, and physical weakness. Assuming he is maintaining a healthy diet, these effects begin to kick in after about 6 posts, and by 10 posts the fatigue can become great enough to incapacitate.

Listen up, make sure you pay attention because what I'm gonna tell you is going to keep you alive out there, got it? Good.

SUMMARY:
First rule of the Hawks; mobility is one of your greatest weapons. No matter how strong they are, if they can't pin you down then their strength is useless. Better brush up on your parkour too, because you're gonna need to be able to navigate the streets just as well as you can navigate a fight.

Never Stay Down
RANK/LEVEL: C-
SUMMARY:
Second rule of the Hawks; don't let yourself give in no matter how bleak things look. I'm not talking about strength, I'm talking about your drive, your determination. If you take a hit and get knocked flat, you damn well better have the grit to get back on your feet.
Never Show Weakness
RANK/LEVEL: D+
SUMMARY:
Third rule of the Hawks; don't ever let anyone else push you around. If you let people think you're weak, they're going to try to take advantage of you, so you're going to need to toughen up. I can show you some basics with hand to hand, but its going to be up to you to keep practicing. And if someone ever tries to take you down, you make sure that they know they're in for a hell of a fight.
Never Lose Sight
RANK/LEVEL: D-
SUMMARY:
Fourth rule of the Hawks; make sure you watch your back out there, god knows no one else will. Keep your wits about you and be mindful of your surroundings. You've gotta be able to know if there's a guy tailing you, or if someone's skulking around in the shadows, because otherwise you're just easy pickings.
Never Get Caught
RANK/LEVEL: D-
SUMMARY:
Fifth rule of the Hawks; know how to make yourself scarce. I don't mean running away either, sometimes you've just gotta stay out of sight. Shadows are all well and good, but in the city there are eyes everywhere. A lot of the time the best thing you can do to hide is absolutely nothing. If you learn how to fade into the crowds, you'll be able to slip away from damn near anything.
