Stepping back into these halls and in these rooms reminded Yukiko of her times here anytime she came around. It was mixed memories, good and bad. She had finally managed to move some stuff around to setup the training facility. Training dummies, walls, some configuration changes to the labyrinth as well as inactive traps. Mostly she prepared a large chest full of fish for herself and other basic weapons crates for basic training that had both common weapons and things that weren't normally considered weapons inside them scattered around. This specific training session she decided to do something a little different. She knew that everyone at US loved to do big class gatherings for class training sessions but this time, she just wanted to do the first few times as first come, first served. Being a hero meant working with whomever got to the scene first so she wanted to get them a chance to work with those they normally didn't so she wanted to see if these random sessions would do that. She normally came to scout before, now she was here to actually teach, and help them grow. And that had it's own challenges. For one, writing an entire lesson plan and being told "keep the puns to a minimum" was so frustrating. Yukiko managed to bargain that puns were reasonable, so long as they weren't directly apart of what she actual taught or planned to teach. "Take this seriously" Pfft, telling her to take fighting seriously that's rich. Who does the Jiu think she is talking to? There is no being on this planet more serious about fighting than her. But, making the focus on fighting so the puns didn't take away from it made sense to Yukiko.....unfortunately. So she would, at least for the combat end of it.
She was given a file to read up on the students of UA but thought that kind of studying was more for hunting a target than learning about an individual. Besides, the file could have more important uses if left unread anyway so she'd just leave each student's information unopened and just learn about each student the standard way in the moment. It would be more engaging that way for her and more amusing to see how they reacted to that information later anyway. Trust was another thing, she'd rather not have them all think she just knew all their secrets from the get go, even though the student information wasn't anything like that. It still helped to start from a good baseline. So, she kept basic combat lessons open and offered them as an Extra Credit for now. Any Student that recently did poorly on a combat section or training section could just come down and make it up with her in these random time slots. Or schedule during these times in between the class specific full combat classes. They could also come here just to get better but it's always good to add motivation so there are some that come at times. So, Yukiko would lean against the wall at the central most point in the labyrinth, munching on some salmon as she did so.

Post by Ren Wolff on Jun 27, 2021 5:06:55 GMT
"I've got a lot of catching up to do..." Ren mumbled to himself as he walked down the path toward the Ground Gamma facility, glancing at the pages full of notes on his phone. What had originally been planned as a standard two week internship had turned into an extended leave of absence; nearly two months tucked away training in the Alps with his uncle. Uncle? Father? That one was still weird as hell for the boy. Sure, he'd been lying about his parentage since he took the entrance exams, but now it was kinda true? In order to strengthen his cover from the Yamaki family, his uncle had gotten official adoption papers written up for Ren's false alias. Legally at least, "Renard Wolff" was now actually a real person: son of the Rank 9 hero, Siegfried. That certainly made parts of his life a lot easier, but man was it strange to think about.
The other primary consequence of his extended training was of course that he was extremely behind on his school work. For the three days since his arrival back in Japan, nearly every waking moment had been spent either doing paperwork, attending make-up lessons, or studying. He hadn't even had much of a chance to catch up with his classmates yet, just immediately going from one task to the other. He'd finally be getting a bit of a break from all the cramming today... but only because he'd signed up for an extra-curricular training session. Oh well, that was just how things were going to be for awhile. Or so Ren told himself, but he couldn't stop himself from letting out a sigh anyway, white breath streaming from his lips and cooling the air around him.
That was one thing he definitely already missed about Germany; he'd gotten used to being back in the cool mountain air. The heat in Musutafu was oppressive by comparison.... but at least for now it was a little less of a problem. As he slipped his phone into the pocket of his jacket, he looked down at his free hand, flexing the armored glove a few times. Although at first glance he just appeared to be dressed in fairly normal clothing; a blue parka jacket, a yellow scarf, an old T-shirt, and a worn pair of gray jeans, beneath it all he was donning a full armored body suit. The thing was stuffed full of all sorts of tech that he had little to no understanding of, but with how much he'd used the suit over the past month, he was far more comfortable in it than he had been before. Moving around wasn't much of a problem anymore, and while his face was currently exposed to the outside air, the rest of his body was nice and cool, sealed off from the world. Lessons where they were allowed to use their equipment were rare, but the boy wasn't about to complain about it.
Walking into the training facility, it occurred to him that the last time he was in this building he got kicked around by a bunch of the training bots with Elke... Things would go quite a bit differently this time he imagined. Not just because he'd gotten stronger since then, but because he was dealing with a whole new teacher this time around. He'd long come to the understanding that just about every single staff member at UA was a little crazy in their own special way. This one was likely to be no different, as evidenced by the fact that they were expected to find their way to the center of the simulated maze before the lesson even began... and that the air in the building smelled heavily of... fish? Ren sniffed a few times just to make sure that he wasn't imagining it, but no; it was definitely there. Oddly enough it actually made finding the center of the labyrinth easier, as he ended up following the scent to it's source.
As Ren turned the last corner, he came face to face with a figure nearly twice his size. The dark-skinned woman towered over him, body twisted with the sort of animalistic features that were so common with mutation quirks. Of course he'd heard her description before, but there really was no mistaking this teacher, was there? Brushing off his initial surprise at her appearance, the boy approached and gave a polite bow as he introduced himself. "Mai-sensei, right? It's nice to meet you Ma'am. Ren Wolff, reporting for training."

Jun was also heading out to join Umbearable at grounds Gamma. Complete with hero suit and the two wrist mounted grappling hooks that he had. The blond entered the maze and headed towards the center. The first thing that caught his attention was the smell of fish. Grinning almost maniacally, he wondered if the woman had a massive breakfast or lunch. He did go through a few small spaces to get to the center faster, and ended up seeing Ren Wolf just strolling up to the massive woman, who was eating a salmon, and giving her an introduction. He was just shocked the guy was back from Germany!
"REEEEEEEENNNNNNN!!" He ran up to the other student and jumped, hopefully onto the other blond, and letting him rub their cheeks together. Even if he missed/was avoided, and he landed in a heap, he would ignore it and still jabber at the guy. "It took you long enough to get back! How was Germany? Did you bring us any souvenirs? What was it like? Are you staying at the dorms again? Are you going to cook for us again too? Are you okay?" He wasn't normally like this, but damn it it's been too long since he'd seen his buddy!
Oh! Turning around to face the massive woman, he smiled and gave the lady a polite bow. "Jun Tomoshibi! Nice to meet you, Mai-sensei! Are your puns going to be as unbearable as your name?" He gave her a toothy grin. Oh this was going to be so much fun...

Yukiko was enjoying herself as she feasted upon her fish delights. A few bites here, a chomp there. The idea of the maze was to see both if they were able to find there way here as well as if they were paying attention on their way in. Somethings were changed and added on the way in after all, Yukiko wondered if that would catch their attention, especially with what she had planned in mind. And then, her nose picked up another entering. Seemed things would pick up finally. Then, another shortly after. Two of them meant the bare minimum of what she wanted to accomplish could be achieved at least, though no guarantees could be promised. But, didn't meant she couldn't mix things up along the way. They shortly entered, addressing her and then, each other in a way. Yukiko grinned accordingly at one being a fellow appreciator of puns. "As Unbearable as it is for me, the Principal has given me a grizzly ultimatum: No puns during coursework. So anything involving training or classwork is strictly for that only, aside for that, yes. I am Yukiko Mai. You may call me by any appropriate name in this room but while in the field, it's by our Hero names only for obvious reasons. Now, let me explain what's the situation here." Yukiko would state as she then when towards the room. She approached a few of the dummies, 'lightly' nudging one of them. Her light nudge causing it to shudder loudly even though it was clear she only barely touched it. An obvious demonstration of it both being a training dummy and her abilities being the real deal. She then walked to the weapons chests. One of them was empty and the other was filled with odds and ends of things. Some actual weapons, some....not so much at first glance. Yukiko soon pulled out a pencil.
"Tell me, what do you see?" She waited a few solid moments for some solid answers before chuckling to herself. "If you answered a pencil, you're wrong. If you answered a weapon of opportunity, you are correct. Today's training will consist of three parts: Unarmed combat drills, improvised weapons training, and sudden teamwork drills. In today's training, you will be graded on your ability to learn what you are taught, your ability to integrate what you learn with your Quirk and less on relying completely on your Quirk, and your ability to enhance areas where you are not as proficient. It's pretty hard to fail but if you do fail, it counts as actually failing in an actual classroom combat course so keep in mind if I tell you to keep your head out of your ass." Yukiko said as she went to the empty chest and then pointed at it. "To ensure that it is a completely improvised weapons scenario, all your hero gear and weapons will be secured in this chest until the end of the training. Let me explain now the drills. Improvised weapons drills will consist of you each going to a chest, getting an improvised weapon from it and clearing a section of the maze with training dummies and other traps using only that weapon in tandem with your Quirk as you have to work together. Sudden Teamwork drills will consist of surprise interruptions by me and you having to overcome that. As the end of overcoming me will be an unarmed combat training drill. Oh and I will not be explaining these rules to any late arrivals. That will be your job as if explaining the situation on a Hero Mission or Crisis so make sure you get all the details. Any details missed means you both lose points off your grade." Yukiko said with a toothy grin as she knew that was a lot to absorb but that was the whole idea, Heroes were meant to be leaders so she might as well start training them to take on that burden now. And that meant if you were first on the scene that when others arrived you had to quickly and clearly communicate details of an entire situation rapidly ASAP so things could be handled readily and plans could be made accordingly. "If you don't have any questions you may begin, I'm heading forward now." Yukiko began to walk forward, only to stop if any questions were to be asked.

Post by Ren Wolff on Jul 10, 2021 20:20:14 GMT
Ren's greeting had barely left his mouth when a cry sounded out from the maze behind him. Spinning about the boy saw a figure barreling toward him, but it was far too late to get out of the way. Just barely managing to brace himself before his classmate hug-tackled him, he was still nearly knocked off his feet as the other blonde boy jumped on him. "H-hey Jun, long time no see." Ren forced out through soft laughter as he was accosted, eventually managing to pry himself free while the boy began to assault him with more questions than he could possibly answer. "Yeah, I'm back at the dorms, and I'm doing fine. We should catch up after we're done here, I've got a whole lot to tell you about." He offered, grinning. As happy as he was to see his friend again, he didn't want to keep their teacher waiting while they went over everything that happened in the past two months.
As the giant of a woman introduced herself and began to explain the nature of their exercises for the day, Ren quickly snapped his attention back, the habits he picked up with his uncle's training quickly taking over. The man rarely ever repeated himself, so he had gotten used to focusing on the brief explanations whenever they happened. "A tool." He responded as Yukiko head up the pencil. He was apparently correct in assuming that she wasn't looking for the obvious answer, but his mind hadn't quite made the jump to 'weapon'. The suggestion made him contemplate how he'd use such a thing in a fight if he had to... causing a frown to appear on his face as his mind summoned a particular memory of a frozen spike that was roughly the same size. Not a pleasant image to remember.
As the explanation finished, Ren looked to the two chests on the other side of the chamber. It was a bit odd that they would be removing their gear after being told to bring it, but maybe they would be using it later? He shrugged, reaching up and holding a pair of buttons on the inside of his suit's collar to trigger its release. There was a sharp hiss of pressurized air escaping before the armor plates began to fold up on themselves, starting at his shoulders and cascading downward until they were all collected into a roughly box-shaped mass at his feet. As he dropped the exo-skeleton into the chest the teacher had indicated along with his boots and gloves, he was left in just the inner body-suit, which by itself still had a little bit of thermal resistance but that was about it. Next he turned his attention to the 'weapons' chest that they were told to choose from, finding it to mostly be filled with random odds and ends instead of more traditional armaments. Sifting through a bit, Ren found some more practical weapons, such as kitchen knives or a baseball bat, those were probably the 'safe' choices, but Ren quirk could already make just about any weapon he could possibly need, so he ignored them. Besides, Based on what Yukiko had said, the whole point of this exercise was improvisation.
After a few moments of looking, Ren finally pulled two objects out of the chest; a length of nylon rope and a simple shop broom. The rope he just slung over his shoulder for now, but the broom needed a few adjustments. He quickly unscrewed the brush head and set it aside, before closing his eyes and exhaling a cloud of frost as he ran a hand over the remaining length of wood. Ice appeared in the wake of his fingertips, rising up around the surface, encasing it and expanding outward. After spreading about five inches from the wooden core, the ice began to collapse in on itself, hardening and condensing into the rough shape of a sword blade. As he opened his eyes again, the first year took a moment to look over the weapon, cleaning up some of the rougher patches before nodding.
Satisfied with his preparations, Ren proceeded to turn to Jun. "Let me know if you need anything made." He offered with a smirk. If they were indeed supposed to be working together, then there was nothing stopping them from using their abilities to support each other. And since he could create things with his ice, that meant not being strictly limited to what was within the weapons chest.

Ren answered his questions, and Jun beamed. But alas, schoolwork came in. After the explanations, the teacher held up a pencil and asked what do we see. Jun gave a funny look and stayed quiet. He didn't know whether to give the obvious answer or not. Ren volunteered a tool. And both were soon given the answer. A bit drastic, and desperate even. In his mind, if you were resorting to that, the battle was already lost. He already had close combat training, and had used it well, even in conjunction with his quirk, so this wasn't new. He went over to the chest and took off both of his wrist mounted grappling hooks. The sports festival champion put them in the chest as he listened to the drills. Well, it wasn't that bad. Ren was strong. If a bit fishy on the finish of their match.
But oh well. Jun took out a ten foot length of small chain, twenty three inch nails, and a two foot bungy strap. The boy put the chain and bungy strap around his shoulder, and managed to put the nails in various spots. Ren let him know that if he needed anything to let him know. "Thanks. I doubt I'll need it, but you never know. If you need to warm up, let me know too." And likewise, Ren could cool him off. In theory, they both could keep each other going and going and going if Jun stuck strictly to his fire half. But alas, that wasn't a guarantee thing to happen either. Particularly since most of the items he got conducted electricity.
