East Musutafu, 5pm 06/05/2434 Sakura Short is their life And so their beauty, twice fold
Cherry blossoms had now finished their life cycle, giving way to green leaves on the trees that lined the roads of the streets, a town which was famous for its heroism. It was a place Shin enjoyed visiting, at times perhaps just to tempt fate- as a rather wanted villain whose face was known it was a considerable risk to wander around the streets, specially here but he did it anyway, as if to keep the patrolling heroes on their toes... or maybe just because he liked a certain tea house there recently. Life was a little hard when one was a wanted criminal, he couldn’t frequent any establishment as sooner or later he was recognised by staff, though Shin would like to seriously question those who labelled him as such what warranted the title of “Villain”, as far as he was aware he only killed those who were not worthy to live and lived foolishly believing they were stronger than they were. If any bystanders were injured that was just their fate. He believed in the rule of the battlefield- one who lives by the sword must also be prepared to die by the sword, and he was always prepared to follow this rule. Why it was looked down upon to practice an age old rule was beyond him, to be quite honest. You seem to be under the impression that there is a special breed of bad humans. There is no such thing as a stereotype bad man in this world. Under normal conditions, everybody is more or less good, or, at least, ordinary. But tempt them, and they may suddenly change. That is what is so frightening about men.Yes, those words written by Natsume Souseki was indeed correct, and he was a living proof of that. He had that ability, just by promising them his servitude to change them into the bad kind of human, the ones that deserved to die.
Dressed in a dark blue kimono and contrasting white haori with the May seasonal flower as the main print (Satsuki Azaleas), long black boots and a hat partially obscuring his face, Shin wouldn’t have looked out of place in the Taishou era though most would have just assumed he was a fashionable man who was into vintage kimonos. Once inside the shop, he was shown to a small table near the back and handed the menu, one he didn’t even look at as his head turned toward the direction of the waitress. “One uji matcha, with the seasonal nama-gashi.” He ordered, his voice, being something he used to extensively train to a pleasant, soft timbre. He was well spoken, maybe a little too much so. As he sat back in his seat, he removed his hat, placing it next to him on the bench like seat. There was only one other customer there, he was counting on not being recognised. In the past, rewind around 4 or 5 years ago the only thing he had to worry about was being recognised by his fans as Asahi-yama XI, his kabuki stage name but now it was a little more problematic than that. If he was to find that ideal person he could serve he couldn't be caught just yet.

Musutafu was a interesting town. It was very different from Otaru. While Otaru was not tiny by any means, it was small compared to Musutafu. In Otaru, she at least was able to escape from people every once and a while. In Musutafu, there was hardly such a place. It disappointed Fu a bit. Around this time of year one of her favourite types of tea would become available and she found only one place that served the real thing. Not like the artificial stuff she could get at U.A. She had found the shop a couple weeks ago and had gone there pretty much every day since. She appreciate that it had a dress code and that it felt like a tea shop from back home. It made her feel a little less home sick. Last week she had visited and overheard the owner talking about the koto. Apparently at the end of cherry blossom season they would have a person play the koto for the guests. Their usual player had moved apparently. Naturally, Fu had volunteered her services. At first the owners were skeptical but after a lengthy demonstration, they finally agreed. Today was one of the days she would play for the small shop.
There wasn't really a stage in the place, rather there was just a table set up for her instrument. Waiting in the little bathroom, she looked herself over. She was wearing her hair in a traditional braid, still using her red hair band to keep it together but choosing to tie it in a more artistic manner. Naturally, she wore a kimono. It was her favourite shade of blue with white flowers and a pure red waist tied in a bow. Smiling a bit at herself, she put on the tsume and left the bathroom. The shop wasn't terribly crowed but wasn't empty either. Walking over to her instrument, she gave a bow to the people present before sitting down on the ground. Taking a deep breath, Fu started playing.
Letting her fingers glide over the strings, it looked like Fu had the experience of someone much older than her. While she wouldn't say she is the best koto player, she definitely could keep up with professionals. If hero work did not work out, she might as well do that instead. Probably be the better option to begin with.
Fu continued playing until she got to the end of the song. Looking up for a first time in a while, she gave a little bow with her head before starting to adjust the tsume on her fingers. She was not expected to play many songs, just occasionally play a song here and there. Getting up from the ground, Fu got up to find an open seat. Looking around she saw a man she thought she recognized. Walking up to him, she gave him a slight bow before asking
"A-as rude as this might sound but did you happen to be a kabuki actor? I t-think I recognize you from a show in Otaru..." Fu felt a bit ashamed for asking but she was curious and knew that it would eat away at her mind if she did not.

Shin turned the cup three times before taking a drink of the deep green liquid. He could hear the delicate sound of the o-koto, once he put down the glazed earthenware he glanced towards the musician. It was a young girl. She was actually, not bad at all. With more practise and a good teacher, she could do well in the field. The man delicately maneuvered the small pick-like implement to cut the flower shaped Japanese sweet supplied on the tray accompanying his drink in perfect quarters, bringing the soft, multi coloured bean paste to his mouth He liked it here because the quality wasn't bad at all, it was almost as good as in Kyoto. He noticed the girl come his way a few minutes later and wondered what she was going to say- upon closer look, she definitely was young- perhaps 14 or 15? At the very oldest, high school age. What business did a highschool girl have with him? The question that followed was indeed surprising. The last time he had played in Otaru was a good 6 years ago. Did such a young child attend his shows? "Let me see... Otaru? The last time I had visited Otaru is...around 6 years ago." Shin remembered every single performance he had done, that one in particular was "Wisteria Maiden", a Kabuki staple. It was visually impressive as well as a breathtaking large set. "If you remember me from that long ago, I am impressed, as you must have been extremely young, young lady." He added with a delicate smile. He actually preferred Musume Doujouji to Fuji Musume, also known as Wisteria Maiden because of the story content but he recalled even his master telling him he suited being a wisteria spirit better than a vengeful woman. Well, that was a long, long time ago.

Fu could feel herself blush a little. So it was him. One of the few things she remembered doing with her mother was going to a kabuki show. The themes were probably not suited for her but she still could picture her mother and her in matching kimonos. It was a rather happy memory so she tended to have weird blurbs of the day in her, just like the actors. The performance actually stuck with her enough that she followed some of the actors. He was one of them. From what Fu knew, he had been a bit inactive lately. Fu assumed he was just taking a break from the theatre. It would make sense. It seemed to be a stressful job. She could not handle doing that so much.
Giggling a bit, she gave him a small nervous bow "Errr, well. It's probably one of my fondest memories as a kid so it kind of stuck. I also watched some shows online and such afterwards." Looking down, she saw the tea that he was drinking. She should have ordered some before she started playing. Oh well, she can always can get some tea to go later when she headed back to U.A.
"Anyway, I just wanted to really was just curious. You probably don't want to talk at the moment." She wanted to turn away before asking "Uhh, quick question...How was my playing? I really don't get feedback from people who know much about it."

"Oh? I am glad it was memorable for you." Shin said with a faint smile. He spoke in a refined Kyoto accent, adding to his graceful air. "I do know most young people find Kabuki hard to understand and difficult to engage in, so it is good to hear. Oh- would you like some tea? If you have time, that is? The nama-gashi here is rather good, also." He offered, not minding the company. It was extremely rare for him to talk to anyone like this, even when he used to be what was considered a normal civilian. Back then he was such on a loop of performing, magazine interviews, adverts and going home to sleep. He guessed that was one good thing that came out of breaking that cycle- he had more time to do other things. "What is your favorite movement in Kabuki?" Shin took a sip of the matcha before carrying another piece of the confectionary to his lips. "Your performance was good, have you been playing long? From what I can hear, it sounds like you have. Do you go to a music school around here?" He assumed with those skills she probably was aiming to become a traditional musician, it was a dying art but something he felt was needed, at least as someone with his ex profession he saw it as important even if by modern standards it may be redundant. "I hope you carry on bringing the art to everyone, it would be a shame to let it die out when we have talent in the younger generation such as yourself."

Futaba gave off a slight giggle at the question. "Well, wouldn't that be asking a mother to chose her favourite child?" A small grin crept on her face. If she was honest with herself, she really could not pick her favourite moment. It all was just so interesting.
"I would appreciate some. I forgot to get some before I started playing. I'll order some real quick. " Walking over to near where she played, Fu caught one of the serves. Ordering some tea for herself, she told the server where she was sitting.
Walking over to Shin again, she gave him another small bow. Taking a seat across from him, she decided to tackle all of his question.
"I've been playing for a while now. Basically as soon as I was capable of playing, my mother introduced me to the instrument. She taught me the basics but I have taken lessons for years now." Fu nodded a bit, affirming herself. Looking over at her instrument, she wondered if she would be able to be a musician. It would be the dream actually, even with her current path in life.
"Err, I-I have some how ended up at U.A. but I'm still taking lessons here. I'm not sure if I'll go through with U.A., I'll probably go back to school back home in Otaru." She smiled, tapping her leg to a small beat.
"I really appreciate the koto. Just music in general. It feels like an art that is slowing fading away for the sake of fads." She sighed before adding "People can like whatever they want though. No one ever listens to me anyway. Most people my age back home made fun of me for playing the koto."

Shin laughed softly at the metaphor- perhaps that was true. But everyone knew, even parents had their favorite children. "Well... between you and me...even I have preferences to which I enjoy performing the most." He said in a soft voice with a faintly mischievous smile. It was true, he preferred the vengeful onryo ghost and revenge tales to the ones heavy on the Otoko-gata action, perhaps because he had more to do in the former but well, he also liked those stories better. He took another sip of the matcha from the lacquered bowl before he put it down, waiting until the girl had returned. He listened to her, his charcoal eyes following her movements, the way she spoke, her demeanor. Shin was a little surprised to hear she attended U.A. That was that hero school nearby, was it not? "Oh? You aspire to be a hero?" She didn't look like the sort of person who wanted to be the brash, overproduced, artificial beacons of justice, the ones who's every action was decided on by sponsors and the government. Of course, he did not let his distaste for heroes surface onto his features, if nothing he was an actor by birth and trade, it was in his blood to make fantasy reality, blur the lines between truth and fiction. "And yes, I do understand it isn't seen as...thrilling by a lot of young people these days, which is, a shame. I hope you will take no mind of ignorant opinions and keep practising your art. I am saying the truth when I say you have talent, young lady."

Fu smiled a bit. If she was honest, she had some favourites when it came to theatre. It was just hard for her to pick as she liked most plays she had seen. If there were plays that she had not seen, she would say that those would be her least favourite.
"Oh, I understand...I have piece of music I prefer to play over others." Fu shrugged a bit, looking over to her instrument.
When he commented on her being an aspiring hero, Fu felt herself go slightly red in her face. Was she an aspiring hero? She guessed she was. She was attending U.A. High after all. Ignoring the doubts in the back of her mind, she simply said
"Err, well. Not really. I thought I was. I got into hero course but it's just not for me. Oh well, I can focus on music then!" With a bright smile, she gave a determined nod. It was unfortunate what happened but so was life. Now she could focus on her musical studies.
"I've been experimenting with translating modern music into koto music. I hope that spurs some interest in the instrument. Errr, at least rock music. You know, songs with actual instruments..." Fu laughed a bit before adding "I haven't tried my hand at original composition yet. That's a bit too far out."
A few moments later, her tea had arrived. Doing the appropriate rituals, Fu drank a slight sip. "Reminds me of my mother." Fu remarked, after tasting the tea.
