Rain had never been Hana's favorite type of weather. As a child, she used to lament the lost recesses and the time she wasn't able to spend in the garden. She resented the sludgy, rancid puddles she would have to avoid whenever she needed to cross the street, and she especially hated how she would be forced to either shower or wash her feet off upon her return home, leaving her fur a cold, sodden mess that would take hours to dry, even with help from a dryer.
So, when the weather forecast had announced only a 20% chance of showers this morning, Hana had been relieved. It was the beginning of rainy season, after all, so any chance of sun was one she would be grateful for. Still, she made sure to pack her umbrella in her school bag, just in case.
At least, that's what she thought she had done, until UA let out for the day, only to discover a light shower looming outside the doors. That is when Hanako realized her umbrella was not in her bag. After much deliberation, the girl had concluded that her best option would be to wait the drizzle out. After all, the forecast said only a 20% chance of rain, so it was unlikely the shower would last long, right?
Wrong.
A lazy roll of thunder echoed through the sodden atmosphere, startling Hanako from her thoughts, and punctuating the final word. She looked around the empty corridor, wondering how long it had been since class had let out. As phones weren't allowed in class, she had tried to be respectful, and leave it in her dorm room, so her usual method of telling time was not with her. Sighing, she looked out the window, watching the steady rain that had slowly evolved from the earlier drizzle. It was then that Hana realized the rain would not let up, despite her wishes. She glanced forlornly at her bag, wishing that her umbrella had been safely stowed inside, instead of left on her desk in the dorm room. Alas, no amount of wishing could make the tool suddenly appear, and so, with a heavy sigh, she rested her hand on the door, ready to force herself outside to trudge to the dorms.
She was caught off-guard when a bolt of lightning flashed outside, quickly accompanied by thunder ... and an even heavier downpour. 'Great,' she thought, 'if I hadn't needed to shower when I got home earlier, I certainly will now!' Her tongue clicked against her teeth, a sign of annoyance as she thought, 'I should have left sooner ...' and sighed.

Kadan had always loved the rain. The smell calmed her nerves, the sound helped to drown out unwelcome thoughts, and a part of her admired the strange sense of order a good storm caused- everything would stop and wait for the rain to finish its job. At least, that was a comfort out in the country; the city created a strange dissonance, nothing stopped moving, nothing waited, and the rain was scarcely loud enough to take center stage in her head over the bustle of city life and infrastructure.
The teacher's lounge had long since been abandoned for the day- save one very thorough, some may say obsessive, woman. Ms.Sorozoki, Necrocyte, leaned back in her chair to stretch, looking out the window if nothing else to readjust her eyes from some hours of paperwork. With a soft exhale, she gathered her papers in a folder and slipped out of her chair.
The storm grew worse outside, and each flash of lightning illuminated Kadan's skeleton as she walked down the hall. Expecting the school to be empty, at least devoid of students, imagine her surprise when she spotted one of her own lingering this far past the final bell down the hall. "Miyoshi." She raised her voice just enough to be heard from down the hall. "Classes finished two hours ago. Could it be you're up to no good, or did you forget something?" Kadan cocked an eyebrow, not that it was really possible to tell.

"Miyoshi."
The call had startled Hanako out of her thoughts, and she turned to see the elegant, purple form of her teacher striding towards her from down the hall. It hardly even occurred to her to wonder why Ms. Sozoroki was there so late, as the girl, as perceptive as she could be, had been so wrapped up in her thoughts she hadn't noticed the sheer emptiness of the hallways.
"Classes finished two hours ago. Could it be you're up to no good, or did you forget something?"
Confusion was clearly evident her teacher's tone, though Hana was more concerned with the suspicions being voiced. 'Oh, no! It's only been my first week and I'm already in trouble!' she lamented internally, eyes going wide with concern. "N-No Sensei! Not at all! I just, uh ... It's raining, s-see, and I ..." She bit her lip. Clearly stammering was going to make her more suspicious. 'Just take a deep breath ...'
"S-Sorry, Sensei. I guess I hadn't realized how late it had gotten. I was trying to wait the storm out, since the forecast earlier had said there was only a 20% chance of rain ..." That probably would have been enough to explain the girl's predicament, but she kept rambling, driven by nerves. "I could have sworn I'd packed my umbrella in my bag this morning, but I've checked at least fifteen times by now and it's just not there. I must have forgotten it ... and I know it's not a far walk to the dorms, but I just ... hate the rain. I especially hate getting wet ... it gets in my fur and makes me all heavy and wet and cold and ..." she stopped, suddenly realizing she may have gone on too long, "... a-and ... um ... yeah. I-I'm sorry if I've broken a rule. I really didn't mean to!" The last part was practically squeaked out as she bowed nervously. "It won't happen again, I promise!"

Kadan was well aware of how intimidating she looked. An expressionless, bony face with piercing green lights for eyes, and a tall stature especially compared to her students did not make for an immediately approachable first impression. She was used to being scary- Hanako though, Kadan could tell she would need some work already, she wouldn't last long in the hero course without some stronger nerves, she thought.
Kadan chuckled softly, holding a hand up pacifyingly. "Just teasing, you're not in trouble." As she slowed into talking distance, she glanced briefly out the window at the raging storm and remembered a boy from a neighboring class, years ago when she was in school. Timid- Powerful quirk and a knack for strategy, but far too timid to capitalize on his talents. He never got over that lack of confidence, not for a lack of effort, and eventually dropped out of the hero course. What a waste of potential, Kadan thought. Step one with this girl is to steel those nerves.
"And not one of your classmates offered to walk with you back... Well, that's their loss, isn't it?" Kadan gestured over her shoulder and tapped her folder of paperwork. "I just need to drop this off. I have a spare raincoat in our classroom- come along." Expecting Hana to follow, she turned down the adjacent hall and began walking ever so slightly slower than she'd moved before finding Hana.

The sigh of relief Hanako released after realizing Ms. Sozoroki wasn't angry with her was unmistakable, much to the girl's chagrin. "O-Oh ... right," she said, nodding respectfully in a half-bow. Before she could follow up with questions of her own or spew unnecessarily placating thanks, however, her teacher turned on her heel and began walking further into the school building, gesturing to some paperwork that clearly need stowed away.
Not wanting to fall behind the long-strided teacher, Hana made slight use of her digitigrade joints and put an extra spring into her step. Part of her was concerned with the teacher's observation that none of her classmates had offered to walk with her back to the dorm. To be honest, the girl hadn't considered the issue much. She was new, after all. It was likely none of them knew her well enough to offer an awkward, several-minute-long walk to the dorms. Part of her wanted to point this out to Ms. Sozoroki, but she wasn't quite sure how to.
Instead, she offered a quiet, "Thank you," followed by a gentle smile. "If I'm honest, I'm not sure how long I would have waited there," she said with a chuckle. "I-I'm sure I'll have to get over my dislike of rain eventually ... for hero work and all ... but right now, I just didn't feel like dealing with being wet."
She hadn't realized it before she said it, but Hanako meant what she said. It had only been a few days away from home, but already she was starting to feel a bit homesick and ... unsure of her decision. It seemed like all of her classmates were so excited and certain of wanting to be heroes, to help people, or make the world a better place ... but all she wanted to do was earn money to help her mother and, unfortunately for her, heroes made more money than gardeners.
