Heroes and Media Relations, also known as Media 101 was Lenna's subject to teach as part of the hero course. She also taught languages on the general side, being fluent in Japanese, English and her native French. This was to be her first class, her first lesson as a real teacher. Did she happened to be nervous? Yes, but she also happen to be rather excited. It made sense for her to teach the students how to deal with reporters, journalists and the like... Lenna unfortunately possessed plenty of experience in handling them. She tended to draw their attention much to her chagrin. She was currently setting up the class so everything would be ready for when the students arrived. On each desks sat a mixture of magazines and newspapers. The glossy magazines were ones Lenna happened to be all too familiar with, a picture of herself on the front cover firing one of her signature net pistol, another with her looking off into the distance, a third with her face surrounded by falling rose petals like one of those anime shows when someone sees their crush. The newspapers were a bit more varied, nothing about herself which Lenna was delighted in, the last thing she wanted to do was to make the children believe she had a huge ego. In truth she hated the media attention, especially with it's current headline of her being engaged.
These were all useful examples of dealing with the media, there was also a clip she planned to show the students as well. It was a important job that they knew how to handle interviews, questions and strangers on the street. After all when they were deployed as Heroes, they would be on the front, the public would see them and hold each and everyone of them to the highest possible standards. With every table now laid with a copy of everything Lenna returned to the front of the class, taking her seat behind the desk. Lenna Kawaha was not a tall woman, indeed she stood only five foot four in height, with a slender build. She was clad in her hero suit, a light brown almost grey jacket, a light blue jumper with dark grey leggings with a blue diamond pattern running up the legs, sturdy combat boots, a short dark blue skirt which was a design influence taken from her mother's hero suit. Her long blonde hair cascaded down her back, a black headband was the final aspect of her hero suit, another design influence this one taken from her father's helmet.
Now all she needed was for the student to arrive and for the lesson to begin... Showtime.

"¡Voy a reír, voy a bailar! Vivir mi vida, la la la la…"
Earbuds in and oblivious to the world around him, Paco strutted down the hallways of UA with unusual pep in his step for a seventeen year old on their way to a morning class. Truth was he'd been up for some time already, having convinced his older brother to meet him for an early game of tennis. With a win under his belt before breakfast and grabbing a canned coffee out of a vending machine, the boy was feeling ready to attack the day, even if it was just a 100 level class. In fact, he was rather excited for it - he'd planned to take it the year before, but protested the way it was done and promptly changed his class schedule. Paco was assured that it was because of his excellent negotiating skills and logical argument that hero management students should clearly take these types of courses alongside their hero course peers rather than separately that it had opened up that way his second year. Clearly, the arrival of a new teacher and new curriculum was coincidental.
"Y para qué llorar, pa' que--"
His voice trailed off as Paco looked down at the 'café' in his hand. Lips pursing as a strange aftertaste set in, he quietly walked to the nearest trash can and dropped the beverage in. With as popular as coffee was becoming in Japan, he'd really hoped for better. Sighing and asking a silent prayer that the rumors of Café au Lait opening a location in Mustafu were true, Paco regained a smile as he finally arrived at the right classroom. Removing his earbuds and stowing them in the bag at his hip, exchanging them for a pair of glasses that he hung from the neck of his jacket rather than putting them on, he entered the room with as much bravado as usual.
"Good morning Profe!" His habit of mixing in Spanish to take ownership of his obvious accent could be a gamble, as some professors preferred to be addressed more formally, yet Paco showed no hesitation. Suddenly, taking in the form of the woman, realization hit him. He had neglected to check the professor's name when he'd gotten his schedule; a classic air-headed move on his part. "Kawaha-san," Paco addressed her with a bow. "I hadn't realized you'd be teaching this class, though I do suppose that makes sense!" he exclaimed with a confident smile as he rose, standing a good eight inches taller than the hero before him. "How exciting. My name is Francisco Idigoras Alegre, but I go by Paco. I'm a fan of yours… though admittedly I was a fan of your parents first. Grew up hearing about them as a kid in Madrid." As he said it, Paco wondered if the Steel Knights were all that well known in Japan. Perhaps their daughter's prominence had given them rise if they hadn't been before. Huh - food for thought.
"Anyway, I'm excited to be learning from such an expert." Quickly moving on, unsure in hindsight of how the woman would react to the mention of her parents, Paco excused himself to take a seat near the front. Taking a peek at the magazines and newspapers spread across the desk he chose, then quickly stealing a glance at the instructor's hand, the teen's eyebrows raised and a look of amusement spread across his face. This was shaping up to be a good day indeed.

Stifling a number of pained coughs, Satoru stood in a reclusive corner in the campus. An audible 'thunk' sounded the ending of the life of a cigarette at his foot. A small cloud of smoke elicited itself for only a passing moment afore vanishing into the nether of air; simultaneously Satoru's wrist lifted to view his watch, followed with a quirk of his mouth and a pursed sigh.
Shortly thereafter trudging through the halls of U.A, following a small map to the classroom with his head down and in efforts to avoid making eye-contact with too many people save for avoiding running into them-- Or other inanimate objects. Upon arrival, he'd verified the classroom placard to the schedule afore he slid the door open and closed behind himself.
Having only spent a moment at the door while scanning the room for only a brief moment, acknowledging the sight of both another student and the teacher at present. Satoru had effectively looked like a typical student, wearing the school uniform with the addition of a zipper light grey hoodie that had been worn open. Giving a half-attempted wave that was closer to a salute to those who acknowledged his entry "Morning.", as he begun to approach an open seat in the back of the classroom. Slipping his hoodie off and hanging it over the back of the seat as he made his way to being seated himself.
"Eh.. Looking forward to the time teacher; for attendance I am Yokoyama, Satoru." With his brief, and seemingly dull introduction the young man did seem a bit on the quiet side of things. With little time having passed since he sat in his seat, Satoru crossed his arms atop his desk and rest his chin down. As time passed in his stationary position, there was the inevitable scent of smoke coming from Satoru. It was a bit difficult to discern whether it was the smell of tobacco smoke, or that it was from his quirk- presumably the teacher had some documentation on their students, if so it may make for some easy identification for them.

Leena waited as her students started to arrive in the classroom. She smiled kindly at them, she recalled how she once stood in their shoes, a student walking these very halls. She had been a hero, technically she still remained one, even if her focus had changed to directing the education of young minds, to guide them along the road to becoming the best heroes possible.
"Bonjour." She returned the greeting to the student as he filed in. Leena nodded. "That's very true." Leena happened to have more than her fair share of media attention. The public loved her and thus the media did. She was surprised to hear about that he was a fan of her's and even more to hear that he was a fan of her parents. That was not something she expected to hear. "It is good to hear that. Well I look forward to teaching you then." She wondered what her parents would think of her if they were still alive. Unfortunately there was no answer to such a question, save for the hope that they might be proud of her.
She managed to mask her surprise about her parents decently, though her nervousness about teaching a class resulted in the gentle patter of small nuts, bolts and screws onto the flaw around the desk.
Lenna greeted the next student who entered. "Bonjour." She waited till everyone was seated before standing up to start the lesson. "Hello everyone, I am Leena Kawaha and I will be teaching you everything you need to know about dealing with the Media and the Public." She explained to them all, her French accent noticeable.
"Now as I am sure you are aware the items before you are examples of how you will be depicted by the Media."She smiled, the same winning charming smile she often wore. "I apologize for the fact that most are of me because they were easier to get hold of."
She decided to ask them a question. "Now who can tell me what is important to remember when doing hero work?"

Isamu frowned a little as he darted through the packed corridors of U.A., the too-small student sticking to walls and corners when he could, but weaving nimbly in and out of the flow of students when forced to. He was not looking forward to this next class. Not that he didn’t think it was useful—as much as he was loathe to admit it, being a hero meant a certain amount of public relations—but because he was dreading putting those lessons into practice someday. He had never liked being the center of attention for… well, many reasons, least of all being his diminutive height and stature. It was very hard to be taken seriously when you were as small and…. cute as he was. He made a face even as he stepped past the legs of one student and over the tail of another. He’d seen what the media landscape looked like, and how certain heroes tended to be typecast, based on their quirk, or even their appearance. He’d count himself lucky if he never had to do a pet food endorsement.
He’d sooner hang up his cape and cowl rather than ever have to eat any on camera.
Getting villains to take him as a credible threat would be hard enough, but at least there it could work to his advantage—being underestimated was, in some circumstances, a huge benefit. The general public, however… he would have to care what they thought, at least a little bit.
Still, he’d seen enough of his parents in action to have a general idea of how media relations worked, at least in broad strokes. It wasn’t a substitute for formal instruction, however. He would just have to buckle down and take this class seriously and try to get the most of it.
He reached the classroom and paused, sniffing at the air a little as another frown crossed his face. While some people couldn’t tell the difference between tobacco smoke and quirk smoke… he was blessed (or cursed) with the ability to tell the difference. Still, as long as that student wasn’t smoking in the building, he would put it out of mind.
The cat-like student slid open the door, the door appearing to open by itself (depending on ones’ vantage point) as he stepped through and shut it behind himself. He bowed to the teacher—“Good morning, Kawana-sensei.” He walked over to the seat at the very front of the class and jumped up into the chair, standing on it and only then appearing above the tabletops. He slid his backpack off, removing his laptop and then putting his backpack down as a seat underneath him, getting his laptop ready to take notes for the lecture.
When the instructor asked her first question he rose his hand, waiting until he was called on. “In terms of dealing with the media? Maintaining your composure.”

Post by Mikael Rogue on Jul 5, 2020 21:56:00 GMT
Mikael had an idea of how important media relations were. His father worked as an accountant for a hero agency. And as a child who got to interact with pro-heroes every now and then, he understood the role of the media for those who had decided to become heroes.
A hero, you see, is a beacon of hope; or as some would put it “A symbol of Peace”. But to become someone of that stature, the media has to play an integral role. How to get them to do that? Well, he didn’t have an exact answer for that. Not just yet anyways. But that was about to change thanks to the new teacher and the new course.
He wasn’t one to be late. In fact, he made a conscious effort to always be on time. So, as the class started, he walked in and was there when the introductions started.
Patiently, he waited and listened to the other students introduce themselves. He noticed that Paco mentioned that the teacher was from an important and capable background. Though, he didn’t know if it was a background in the media or if the parents were heroes. Regardless, he made a mental note of that. What really mattered was how capable she was and since UA had decided that she was fit to teach them, he knew to trust the decision of pro-heroes.
He was the last one to introduce himself.
”Morning Kawaha-sensei! Since everyone is already introducing themselves, then I guess I’ll go too. I’m Mikael Rogue. I love classic rock and I don’t like coffee”
”That was definitely too much, wasn’t it? he thought to himself as soon the words left his mouth. Just stating his name would’ve been enough but he had to mention his likes and dislikes.
“Ahem”
He pretended to clear his throat and picked up one of the materials to hide behind.
Probably, the most interesting student in the class came in after Mikael was done speaking. This individual was a cat person. No, Mikael didn’t know if he liked cats or not, he was a cat; probably because of a quirk.
In a world full of quirks, sights like this weren’t uncommon. However, they weren’t very common in the hero society. So, Mikael couldn’t help but turn to look at this “interesting” individual. But the class soon began afterwards so he couldn’t say anything or indulge in the thought for longer than a minute.
First question from the teacher, and the “interesting” student was quick to answer. Mikael couldn’t help but nod in approval. The cat knew his stuff. He couldn’t help but notice how the pictures of the sensei were in the material on his desk. Most of them, if not all of them, were great and she had posed quite heroically. So, his answer was inspired from this observation along with many others in the past:
”..and do a heroic pose whenever you have a chance?”
He spoke clearly and with conviction. He truly felt that this was the correct answer. Why? Because that’s how he had seen most heroes. After a fight, sometimes during a fight, and sometimes before a fight, the pose was there. It was almost always there. It had to be important, right?
But was it the most important thing? Probably not.

She returned the greeting to the two new students, though she was unsure what to make of the one who said that they disliked coffee. Not that she was a defender of coffee, it was tea for her. Preferably a nice fragrant cup of jasmine tea. Lenna listened to the answers provided by two of the students, she nodded smiling. "Both of you are correct there." She said. "You have to be composed, remain calm, as the public will see you and you must be a beacon of calm. We may be doing hero work, but for them it is possibly their worst day. If the media see you panicking it could undermine your ability as a hero." She explained adding on a bit more detail. "The media may also ask you a lot of questions, some might be designed to trigger a response from you that they can use against you or deliberately misinterpret. You must always remain calm when dealing with them, never say anything that you don't want coming back to haunt you. After all with the internet people can watch any of your old videos, interviews so be aware of that." Lenna remembered her first awkward attempts when she found herself on camera, that had been an embarrassing moment for her. Especially as she switched to her native French half way through as she was so nervous. Ah the joyous mistakes of youth.
"The heroic pose is part of it, part of your identity as a hero, like your name or costume." After all such things helped greatly with recognition of a hero the moment they appeared on the scene. "The image you create to the public is one you embody from now till the end of time. People will look up to you, through media you can make more sales, appear in books, magazines, movies, documentaries, shows and the like." It was a difficult one to explain the ins and outs of dealing with the media, but they had to be aware of it or at least possess some background in it so they knew roughly what to expect should they encounter them, either as a student or as a fully certified hero. "Now don't get me wrong sometimes dealing with the media is boring, sometimes you may just want to be out their doing hero work. But you must never let it show, remain calm, smile a lot, after all if you are being interviewed on a talk show after defeating a big villain, the fact you are on the screen may deter other villains, not to mention inspire the next generation of heroes." She picked up one of the magazines from her own desk, holding the front cover out to them. "Working with the media is a good way to earn additional income, posing for photos or having exclusive interviews as well. It is not all fun and games, but it is part of being a hero so it is something to be aware of." She offered them all a smile, one of those award winning Lenna smiles that the media and public adored.
"Now unfortunately there is a downside to the media, several in fact. The first being, in their bid to get stories they can often place themselves in danger. It is something to be aware of whether you are responding to a villain or a disaster." She lowered the magazine and looked thoughtful for a moment. "How about this? I'm a report for a local news channel, me and my film crew have just rushed up to you asking you questions about a villain you just defeated. Remember to consider the environment around you, is the villain still trying to escape, are they hurt, are you hurt, is it safe for me and my team to be there. Each of you can tell me how you might deal with the situation." She told all, pausing to roll the magazine up into a makeshift microphone. "Hello, I'm Lenna Kawaha reporting live for Channel Nine News, I'm here on the streets of Tokyo after a new hero has just defeated the dreaded villain. What's your name new hero? Anything to say about the fight?"
OOC: I will try to progress the thread forward every week as there are a few of us in the thread so it keep going. However, feel free to post multiple times between Lenna threads if you want to.

Post by Katsuo on Jul 7, 2020 12:20:26 GMT
Katsuo had finally begun his tenure at U.A. High. And because of coming late that day he missed a few classes, so his first class ever would be Media 101. Katsuo had never really considered the implications of the media on being a hero until now, his head began to whiz with ideas on how he could manipulate media to his liking, before questioning if it would even be worth the effort. The boy let out a sigh as he made his way down the hallway, eventually his thoughts strayed from changing the world through a bit of media attention to more typical concerns of a boy his age. Would he like his class? Would he make friends? Did he even want friends? What if everyone in his class was a loser. What if there was a cute girl he sat by? What if there were no cute girls in the school? As he thought that, a group of senior girls walked past and he struck that concern off the list.
He entered the class and quickly went to get his first reads on everyone. Perking a brow at the Paco he assumed he probably spent more time making sure his belt matched his shoes than Katsuo had spent on his whole morning routine. His next glance went over to the teacher, a cute cat girl who was supposed to teach him media relations. Great, maybe she'd try to get him to smile a whole lot more and raise his voice an octave or two. While Katsuo saw the logic in media relations, the whole thing seemed tiresome to him. An excuse for self absorbed people to hide behind "appearance" or "popularity" for their inherent need for validation. Not that Katsuo didn't like some validation here and there too, he just reasoned that it was a waste of time to chase eventually. However he was sure she was going to give them some cute speech about how a big smile will make the whole media love him and how it'll be /so/ important in his future career. He let out a strained sigh.
Next there was the degenerate who smelled like smoke and looked like he needed a shower. Katsuo was always judgmental of people who smoked, he thought it was an incredible way of telling of someone was worth his time or not. If you were stupid enough to smoke, you weren't. He sat beside the smoke smelled boy either way. As he sat down, he brought up a hand to rub his nose and let out a quiet sneeze. Looking over at the cat-boy, he let out another sigh. Of course, he was allergic to cats after all. Why would they put him in a class with a bunch of bozos, who knew, but he was here. He might as well pretend to learn something.
As Lenna began to lecture the point that stood out most to him was her reliance on image and optics. Important, he knew, but for a boy who rarely cared about his appearance, both physically and socially the whole lecture seemed incredibly vain. Quite an interesting start to the boy's heroic career. He began to plan out his week, ignoring the lecture but would stir realizing that she began to roleplay as another person and would quickly snap back to reality to respond to the question. Realizing the boy had not introduced himself yet he froze in a quiet embarrassment. Katsuo did not offer a ton in terms of facial expression- but he realized his social faux pas. After another strange silence he would respond, "I am Katsuo. I do not have a hero name yet. It was easy." the boy said finally, with a calm and neutral tone. His tone did not inspire any sort of heroism or moving emotion, but a cold and simple response, more akin to someones response to a simple question.

He knew that the calm part was super correct. The cat-person was totally on-point. What caught him by surprise was that his answer wasn’t wrong either. He audibly expressed it by going “eh?”
However, no information was going to be wasted. His movements were swift, almost perfect even. In a moment’s notice, his notepad was out, the pen was in his hand and he was taking notes. This was interesting indeed. And the pointers that followed explained why the calm part was useful and what was the role of heroic pose for heroes.
”The dots connect. It makes sense!”, he let out an internal triumphant girlish-screech. This was exciting. He felt as though Kawaha-sensei was handing out the secrets to dominating the world of media relations. Only a fool would let such gold pass them by without noting it down. Or so he thought. It wasn’t as dramatically as important as he felt but he was too excited to calmly think about it.
As he muttered the words while writing them down, Mikael was completely unprepared for what came next. To be fair though, who would expect a rapid fire round on the first day of class? This teacher or class was not to be taken lightly
For several moments, Mikael froze; almost as if running the scenario in his mind and asking himself: “What would I do? What would I say? On that note, what should I say?” One after the other, the questions began piling up in his mind. The internal noise got louder and louder, almost blocking external sounds completely until one sound pulled him out to reality.
He was one of the last ones to come in and he introduced himself as Katsuo. His reply to the scenario and the question was short, calm, and rather unsatisfying. Was this gentleman trying to be a hero? Seriously, was he though?
For some reason, Mikael felt that he had to butt-in to make a save. After all, he had been paying attention and writing down notes too. He could help out, right?
He raised his hand to get everyone’s attention, opened his mouth, and again froze. He hadn’t realized what the pressure felt-like when all eyes were on you. But he shook his head, glared down to his notes and saw the important words underlined:
“Stay calm - maintain composure - make sure people are safe - don’t let your guard down”
It helped him get his thoughts in order, and he followed through:
“Arigato Kawaha-san. Let’s all cooperate with the emergency teams and stay on our guard. This isn’t over until it’s over. Let’s help out the people in need while we make sure the villain is down for the count”
That felt right. It was right, wasn’t it? He looked down to his notes again, satisfied. Until, he noticed something and his eyes went wide. He forgot!
As a hero in this scenario he was pretending to be one who had helped take down a villain, this was his time to shine too. How many chances would he have gotten to capitalize on a win? Comparatively, Katsuo made an impression with a short speech and the last statement: “It was easy”. That made him look super cool. But was Mikael almost as cool? NOPE!
He shook his head in disappointment. That definitely could’ve gone better. Again, he began jotting down more notes about his recent findings. He knew that Kawaha-sensei would probably have a thing or two to say about his response. He was ready for it too - pen in hand.
”Must go beyond - plus ultra”, he would think to himself as a visible smirk would appear on his lips. For in this moment, he had recognized and accepted the challenge to improve in media relations.

Post by Isamu Suzuki on Jul 13, 2020 13:36:12 GMT
Isamu wanted to scoff at the notion of striking a heroic pose being an important part of dealing with the media… wanted to, but didn’t. He wasn’t blind to how controlling the optics in hero work went, and had observed enough of his parents’ tag-team posing to know that (although their tag-team fighting style was just as practiced, if not so, and far more deadly to boot.) No, it was more that he valued the goal of protecting the public far more than providing pithy sound bytes to the media or for an endorsement. That, and definitely not that he felt ridiculous trying to strike a dramatic pose at only two and a half feet tall. Definitely not that second thing.
Still, he dutifully made his notes on the subject, even if his own personal aspirations were to be a specialist focusing on behind the scenes hero work, or a search and rescue hero where it would be natural to keep extra interlopers at bay. Both options to avoid making himself look silly in front of the media. Still, the rational part of him knew that it was inevitable he would have to deal with the media at some point. It was really only a matter of when. Especially since his immediate family already had several heroes in it. He could already see the comparisons being made to his parents and older brother.
And now, a practical exercise. Hmm. He watched thoughtfully as other students responded to the teacher’s prompt. Some good replies, some not so good. If he had eyebrows to raise, he would have raised one of them at Fukushima’s rather simple response. While saying a fight was easy was probably better than saying it was really difficult, it probably wasn’t enough on its own.
The next response… Rogue, wasn’t it, from the other first year hero course? Was probably one of the better ones, save one crucial omission… And judging by his reaction he realized it was well.
He cleared his throat and stood up—on the chair, so he had least a shot of approaching a proper height—and turned to face the ‘reporter.’ He appeared mostly calm, though a keen observer might notice a stray ear or tail flick betraying a bit of nervousness, but his voice had the same level, stoic quality he normally used in his day-to-day life. “My name is Shadowkat. We’ve managed to contain the villain with no civilian injuries and minimal property damage. However, we’re still securing the villain for transport, so for your safety please stay behind the police barrier and I’ll be happy to answer questions after he’s been taken into custody. Thank you.”
After that he sat down and continued to take notes. Hopefully that was a good example, as would befit class 1-A’s class representative.

There was a mixture of replies from the students, all of varying skill and length. But that was to be expected, she was after all probably one of the youngest teachers here, she happened to be new and most of the students probably were yet to realise the role media would play in their futures. Like it or not, the public loved heroes and thus the press, the media too. Unfortunately for Lenna, her either skill at handling them seemed to have left her an ever popular celebrity. Perhaps her accent did not help either. "Those are all good responses." She said after everyone had given a reply to her, Lenna's tone was warm and friendly. "All of you got the important bits across." She began. "As important as it is to defeat, to stop the villains being aware of the public as well as that your beaten foe might only be pretending is also just as important. After all, turn your back on them to pose for the camera... He might escape, he might choose the time to attack or the environment you are in could collapse." But between them they had all covered the points which mattered, Lenna was quite pleased.
"But as I am sure you are aware from growing up, being a hero is not all beating bad guys and saving kittens from trees." She smirked at her little joke. "You may find yourself asked onto talk shows, offered commercials, some might even want to write a book about you or ask if you are able to work as a model for them." She understood that these were not exciting aspects of hero work, she when she had been their age found such things to be well... A bit pointless. After all, she was going to be a hero why did it matter? Of course the true answer came in time, which she hoped to share that nugget of wisdom. "Now I am sure some of that sounds about as exciting as a surprise maths test. But such offers are useful." Yet would the students be able to see that? "They will help to indicate how far you have progressed as a hero, your popularity, supplement your income and also help you to get noticed by other super hero agencies." She fell silent for a few moments looking thoughtful. "I would urge you to take such opportunities especially whilst you are young as it will help in your future careers, open doors for you and help you to succeed in being the best hero you can be."
There was more to being a hero than met the eye. Whilst her class might not necessarily be the most exciting for the students, she hoped to arm them with the necessary knowledge so that when they encountered such events they would have some idea of what to do. As at some point in their careers they might do. "Knowing how to work with the media can also be useful for when... Things do not go to plan or unfortunate things happen." After all, heroes could not prevent damage entirely sometimes, a battle with a villain might cause damage that sort of thing. "In such cases it is important to remain calm, focused, do not let them see you worked up or agitated as they will try to draw angry comments out about you." She sighed. "It sucks, but a lot of the news companies only want to get clicks on their websites, to sell papers so if they can post something of you lashing out angrily they will." Her gaze swept the class. "Best way to prevent that is to not let them have a chance to. I'm not saying do not have any feelings or to be afraid to show them but to remain in control of your emotions, your temper especially when they may be trying to say things to work you up. This leads onto another one, the flash mob, the paparazzi... You will likely see them to. Try to ignore them and keep doing your job."
Now came the interesting part for her, the moment of truth as it were. "Any questions so far?" She hoped that they were enjoying it, her lesson was probably a bit more relaxing than some of their other hero studies. So even if they found the topic boring, the change of pace might be something to enjoy at the very least.

Mikael was not the competitive type but he couldn’t help feel impressed and overwhelmed by the answers of the two other students. Whether it be the short yet powerful statement that Katsuo gave or the comprehensive answer the cat-person came up with, he knew he was outgunned, verbally and charismatically.
Why did it matter to him though? Because he understood how important it was. It was a simple matter of what a hero stood for, what they were known for and with these statements, he could jot down the impressions his fellow classmates would leave on the audience:
Katsuo - the strong, intimidating and reliable. Isamu - a gentle-cat pro-hero, also reliable.
What about him? His answer, in his opinion, left no impression at all. He just represented that he was there, he helped out, and he would help out again. Was this a hero whose presence would calm people down in a crisis? Probably not.
Intently, he listened to Kawaha-sensei’s explanation; at least he got the important part right. That was good. He stayed calm, even though at first he felt overwhelmed but he recovered from that. That showed he was on the right track, he just needed to improve. And students like Isamu were a good example to learn from. He made a mental note to try and befriend Isamu later on. On the path to becoming a hero, Mikael was of the opinion that one cannot have enough help. So, it’s not a bad idea to ask for it and work with others to get there.
The kitten joke caught Mikael off guard and he let out a chuckle, only to realize that could’ve offended Isamu. Immediately, he would whisper as he looked towards Isamu:
”Sorry, no offense”
He didn’t mean anything by it. It was just funny that she made a joke and there was a cat in the room. He had a pretty simple taste for humor.
Without waiting for an answer, he would turn again to Kawahai-sensei as she would still be speaking. Her lecture was detailed, and Mikael felt that he was learning the intricate details of handling the press and the paparazzi from an expert on the subject.
When asked if anyone had any questions, as if on queue, Mikael would raise his hand:
”Hai Kawaha-sensei! I have one”, he would stand, notepad in hand and start reading his notes aloud:
”I know you said it’s important to stay calm. But what would be the appropriate response if someone makes a mistake in an interview? Or let’s say, there’s an intense situation, and the hero is focused on their responsibility so they end up annoyed and saying something that they should not have to media personnel aggressively pushing for answers. How does one come back from that?”
After he completed his question, he would raise his gaze from the notes and point it at the teacher, again pen ready to write down her response. He was, after all, a good student.

As the lecture began and then droned on, certain students' voices would rise to the top of the conversation while others tried to hide behind the raised hands of others. Paco, however, did not exactly fit into either category. A smug smile rested on his face as he scribbled what would look like lecture notes… and notes they were, though for the hero management major, these were the kind he would consider a higher priority:
Satoru Yokoyama ( ) -- White hair, grey eyes. Smells like drugs. Quiet, slouchy.
Mikael Rogue ( ) -- Grey hair, pink eyes. Looks kinda like smokey boi but like, adorable.
? (Shadowcat) -- Black fur, gold eyes. Cute cat boi. Not as cute as Chiquitina, though.
Katsuo….? ( ) -- Blonde hair, blue eyes. Looks stern, and- Oh no baby what is you doin'?
Beside each name, he left space for the student's chosen hero name. Under each name, he had left space for the details of each students quirk should they reveal that information. This was the trouble with high school; you spend a year building a network making friends, and then a third of them go on and graduate or whatever and get themselves replaced! What a pain. Oh well, at least it gave Paco something enjoyable to study later. He would dream up his perfect combination of quirks and personalities for his agency, though every now and again a twinge of doubt and memories of the year before would seep in. Through this daydreaming, his ears had been perked to listen to the first years responses, jotting what bits of information it gave him about their styles and personalities beside their names, but not necessarily paying attention to the actual content of what Kawaha-san was trying to impart to them.
"Any questions so far?"
Another self-satisfied smile. Open-ended questions were his favorites - everyone got their chance to really shine here. Chibi-chan went first, asking a surprisingly apt question in light of his first few answers. 'I like this kid.' Paco thought to himself, before suddenly realizing that he hadn't said anything all class. Not wanting to leave a bad impression on their new profe, Paco swept his hair to the side and grinned before raising one hand and holding a magazine with the Mécanicienne on the cover with the other.
"Good one Mikael, though I want to add to that - what about when it's not your fault? It's unfortunate, but like you said Profe, sometimes the only way to keep a paycheck in that industry is to get a few more clicks, and sometimes to make that happen you've gotta go pretty low. It's usually pretty obvious, but what about when the media tells a blatant lie?" His eyes flicked subtly toward Lenna's left hand. "How do you deal with that?"

For the majority of the class thus far Satoru had kept his arms crossed and his head down low where he sat; with the intention of both his distance from the front and the manner in which he rested kept himself in a relatively low-profile.
In doing so, it helped him seem to bypass the initial quiz of how one may or may not react in the circumstances of a news-caster approaching during a scenario. With a mixture of not wanting to staple himself as a centerpiece of the classroom; but also felt it was a smoother operation to simply remain in the quiet side of the scenario, as if that in itself was his own reaction to such a situation. He felt that through his short time alive, if you didn't know what to do or say, it's often best to not get involved in the first place-- Let them formulate their own opinions or statements, with nothing to work with or articulate it would eventually fall from their devised facades and his stature would simply continue to remain mediocre and more or less anonymous.
Wrinkling his nose as he adjusted the rest of his body in his rather lazed slouched and seated position, his attention did eventually turn to the remainder of the classroom as those who answered gave their stances. Each of them he made active efforts to not label with any substantial judgement given that all the students here were just as new as him to the realm of public relations and save for minor benefits or experience, he figured it was about as much of a crapshoot it could get for the lot.
Twisting his mouth with both eyes closing for a passing moment while the other students posed their questions before him. Once he sensed an opening in the dispersion of questions, he turned his weight to his left side so he could slip his right arm to the air without having to lift his head. "I recognize the importance of media and public relations; but how could we avoid the media attention just as much as one might want to garner it? Example is if one's too inexperienced, or has a quirk that regardless of intent could always be used against them in media-- Mmm; in a manner let's say that the hero is a stealth-hero or a saboteur?" Offering a sniff to give himself a natural pause and allowing his arm to fall so it could be tucked back underneath his head. "I suspect you've figured ways to do that, since you've had a lot of experience in this environment."

There were a few questions, all of them good ones. "Firstly those are all good questions." She began. "I'll start with the first question and build up to answer them all." With this said Lenna started to explain. "If someone makes a mistake in an interview you can always have the option of explaining you made a mistake, admitting it and correcting it or coming out at a later date with an explanation or a correction. Though... I will admit there is a risk that the media will call you out for it in which case you will have to clarify it was a mistake and you correct it. Apologise is generally the best strategy there, even if you feel you have done nothing wrong, sometimes the best way to win a battle is to not fight it. If the public see you've apologised to them for it, they will understand you were in a tense and difficult situation any backlash should fall on the press rather than yourselves." At least that was the theory of it anyway, she could arm them with a rough idea but in the end it would all come down to them and how they managed to deal with the press. Everyone managed to deal with the media in their own way, but with the knowledge of her lessons, they at least would be going in with some idea of how to act, how to respond, how to control the situation.
"I can answer from my own personal experience to when the media tell a blatant lie." She said with a small sigh. "As some of you might be aware the Media has been running a story recently that I have been engaged to some unknown hero. I can however tell you, that this is not the case, there is no mysterious hero and no engagement. I have come out with a statement saying so... But as you may notice from the gossip magazines and news sites it is a popular story. Whenever they tell a lie it is always best to come out with the truth of it, eventually the world will calm down and see the facts, the reasons, the evidence... Though there will always be a handful of people who will never be convinced. However that is part of life." Lenna had in truth given up on the struggle to convince the world that she was not engaged with anyone, but the tabloids and gossip magazines had their star headline and were not yet about to surrender it, not whilst it sold or got clicks online.
"As for avoiding the Media, you can try to keep a low profile, avoid the reporters, don't answer questions, in and out, do your job and save people." There was a pause. "However, it would be wise to have someone on your side who is familiar with your side of the story. Even if it is some small time newspaper or a web blog of a friend. As it will give them a means to access information rather than speculation. That way you can have your quirk used in a positive light but also gain experience with the media but on a smaller and easier to control scale." She smiled at them. "Are there any other questions?"
