There was no denying the fact that Hyousuke enjoyed time spent around other people. Regardless of who it was with, he always seemed to appreciate having some company in whatever he was doing, be it shopping or simply sitting down for a coffee. But even he had his limits. Having to constantly put on a facade and hide more unsavoury aspects of himself from others, as well as making sure that they didn't dig too deep into more personal aspects of himself, tended to take its toll after a while. It was only natural that he would want to take a break once in a while, and spend some time recuperating.
As much as he'd have liked to walk down to the Black Cat for a cup of coffee and whatever pastry it was they'd trotted out that week to accompany it, the weather wasn't exactly lending itself to going out. Darkened skies stretched as far as he could see, with thick, heavy droplets of rain pelting everything beneath. Judging by the angle, the winds weren't exactly tame either. Given that it was near enough lunch, Hyousuke decided instead to just head down to the canteen, and get a meal there. He wasn't sure what was supposed to be on the menu, but if worst came to worst and nothing appealed to him, he figured he could just get a sandwich and be done with.
It didn’t seem like too many others were there. He supposed that it wasn’t that much of a shock - it was a little early for lunch, after all, and with there being no school that day, most people were probably eating elsewhere. Not that he really minded much. He was going there to take some time away from people, after all, and to gather his thoughts. Ever since he'd set foot in UA, it'd been one thing after another, with barely a chance for him to sit down and sort out his own emotions on each matter. Perhaps this'd afford him the chance to - at least until the next disaster.

There was no denying the fact that Himari enjoyed the time spent analyzing other people. The more diverse the better in her opinion, and with the ‘Advanced Anatomy’ textbook propped lazily in front of her untouched breakfast as she eavesdropped and stole glances at passerby and conversations alike. Yes. Breakfast, as she had not moved from her central location 2 tables from the entrance since roughly 9am - she had been woken up from her restless and insatiable nightmares hours before then but she knew most people were generally up and moving on a weekend around 9 so that was she chose to saunter down to the canteen. Book in tow she stood in the short line, everyone else sluggish in their movements and conversation while she was unnaturally sharp and tight lipped. Every morning she had to ensure she was sufficiently silent or else that … voice… would take over and speak uncomfortable truths about her - so she had made it a sort of routine since her transfer to spend her off time ‘playing the role’ and attending breakfast in the canteen.
Luckily no one bothered to comment, too loudly at least, at her constant absence of company or the fact that she was periodically writing in a red leather notebook - most would guess she was severely dull and studious as she always had a textbook at hand to complete the image. This was exactly what she hoped for though, a glance long enough to decipher her main items of ‘containment’ then she was off their radar as soon as she was on it; Check Mate.
The things people say about themselves and others when they think no one is listening is… so telling. Not only about those they speak of, but about themselves as well - and that is what the journal is really for - keeping track of conversations and drawing conclusions about people as she continues to idly read her anatomy textbook. She had been doing this regularly enough that she had some rather flushed out profiles written out thus far but… the day seemed to have a curve ball aimed for her. Not exactly a regular around lunch time it was odd to see him enter without a usual personage attached to his side like a sidekick. His aura was off today though, something about his stride or maybe even his expression as she glanced at him as he passed told her today was just a bit different than the others. She watched with an indifferent expression as she tilted her head slightly to follow his approach to the line before she felt a force she wasn’t exactly unusual to her - the ‘why the hell not’ force.
It brought her form up into a standing position, shoulders back and held tilted in the ‘I dare you to question me’ tilt, as she too followed suit and melded into the line right behind him. Her eyes scanned him silently, like a pastel shadow lingering two steps behind the usual glowing sun of UA as they made their way through the line - the lunch ladies noted her recurrence in the line with a raised eye and nothing more. As they were released with the final stop of silverware she gently bumped into his right side - cutting off his turn to look around the room for a spot to sit - with a teasing comment, “What’s got class 1-A’s shining star so dim on this dreary day? Don’t tell me it’s the weather.” She could feel the eyes on the back of her head as she held the progress of the line - even hear the muttered whispers of uncouth behavior as she made such a direct comment to the school’s resident ‘good boy’.
Standing steadfast she allowed a lingering glance over her shoulder as the whisperers, and obvious acknowledgement of their words, before a gentler smile broached her face - “Wanna share a meal and talk about it, something tells me the last thing you need is another bottle to shove yourself into.” Without waiting for his response she strode forward, lunch tray in hand toward her usual spot, continuing to speak as though she expected his follow - “I mean if you prefer the golden boy persona more power to you, look what it’s gotten you thus far.”

Before he had a chance to properly settle in - or even pick out what he was going to eat for an early lunch - Hyousuke found himself confronted by... someone. An unfamiliar face, it seemed. Perhaps someone from 1-B, or general studies? Perhaps a transfer he'd not had the chance to meet? Whoever it was that had decided to make his acquaintance, they were either incredibly well-informed, or were more familiar with him than he was aware of at first. That was how it seemed by the way that they were speaking, anyway. All that talk of how he was the class' golden boy, and whatever dreary look he'd put on, made it seem as though they knew more about him than he did of them.
Seemingly on instinct, his brow furrowed, both in slight confusion at what she was saying, and where he might have known her from. He supposed that it was entirely possible that she only knew him from the Sports Festival - he'd made the last sixteen somehow, after all. Perhaps that was how he was familiar to her, but not the other way around? As thoughts began to crowd his head, each idea clamouring for attention and vying for dominance, he canted his head a little, not looking as though he was even aware that he was doing it.
The matter of how he knew her aside, he wasn't entirely certain if he was supposed to be annoyed at what she was saying, surprised, rattled, or something else entirely. It certainly sounded - by the tone, at least - like it was supposed to be one of the three, or some combination thereupon, but he couldn't quite figure it out, and he figured she was probably expecting an answer before the point that he'd figure it out. He blinked, and in a tone that was a strange mixture of confusion, questioning, and vague frustration at the whole situation, said "I'm sorry, who are you?"
Truth be told, he was annoyed - at least a little - that she'd interrupted him the one time that he'd decided to try and take some time off for himself, and rest to try and store energy for putting up a front again. But he couldn't bring himself to act that way, mostly because he was just confused. Whether it was because being perplexed took precedence over frustration, or he just didn't have the mental fortitude to articulate more than a single emotion at a time, she might as well have been taunting a brick wall. "Have we seen each other around class? Sorry if we have, I've been busy lately."
