[googlefont=Open+Sans] I think it's time to blow this scene [attr="class","firstfriend"] Get everybody and their stuff together ai definitely didn’t want to be here. Not even a damned month out of a hospital and here she was back in one. Even if she wasn’t here because she was injured it still didn’t make her like being here. Of course the person she was here to see probably didn’t want to be here either. Bai could definitely sympathise with that. She wasn’t exactly sure why this student was in the hospital, as it wasn’t exactly her business. However coming off the elevator to the floor she had been directed towards made it kind of obvious why this student was here.
My heart sank when I read the sign. Cancer Ward, it said in the same clean and legible japanese signs that were all over the hospital. I had expected this girl to be here for injuries during the attack. But this caught me off guard. But no one else was going to do this, so it was left up to me.
Heading down the hall Bai couldn’t get over that smell. That clean semi chemically smell she had gotten so used to in her own stay at the hospital. It brought back memories for sure, but not ones she wanted it to. This poor girl was in one hell of a spot. Not even out of high school yet and had some kind of cancer. Finally reaching one of the desk Bai skipped any kind of polite conversation.
“Inspector Bai Zheng. I’m here to see a patient of yours. Futaba Humura, we just have a few questions for her,” Bai said as she showed the nurse her badge. The man who had been with her and yet entirely silent did the same. Her current partner. She didn’t know him that well but she did know that he didn’t want to be here either. Protocol dictated though that he had to come along.
The conversation between herself and the nurse was short, being lead towards the room the girl was in. Pausing for a second Bai took a quick but deep breath. Man she wanted to go outside for a smoke so bad right now. Knocking on the door before cracking it open slightly she spoke up. “Excuse me, miss Himura. My name is Inspector Bai Zheng, I’m with the Tokyo municipal police department working with Musutafu municipal police department. I’m here with my partner Sergeant Misaki Kokuto. We have a few questions we’d like to ask you if you’re up for it,” she said, partially hoping that the girl was asleep so that they could just turn around and leave. Of course at this point they’d have to come back at some point so it was probably just better to get it over with now.

It was fairly dim in the ward room. Cancer patients had the "luxury" of having their own room. The rooms were in the extended stay wing of the hospital and tended be out of the way of the daily medical happenings that would come up in a hospital. Doctor's would occasionally check in on the patients but most of the interaction the patients would get were either visitors or nurses giving the patients their medications. The mood in the ward was tense compared to the rest of the hospital. Voices were more hushed and conversations were more tense. The nurses used hushed voices when talking to each other and generally tried to stay positive around the patients, especially the younger patients. Futaba Himura was one of those patients. According to the doctors it was a cancer called Ependymoma. The name of her illness was the least of her concern though. It was the consequences. Apparently, she has had the cancer for most of her life. From what the doctors said, the tumour was linked to her quirk. It had developed alongside her quirk and just had not become an issue because of her not using her quirk when sh was in Otaru. It had been growing but never got noticed as the headaches were just put down to Fu lack of control with her quirk. They had suggested treatments but they were not sure what would happen if they operated on the tumour. The cancer had not spread to her spinal cord yet but if they waited, Fu could be left paralysed. There was no idea what they could do to her or her quirk because it was so connected to her quirk. Laying in her medical bed, holding her seal plush, Futaba was barely awake. Ever since being admitted, she had been mostly sleeping. On the little night stand next to her bed, some get-well cards and flowers crowed the the little room she had. Her mother was taking a train down but had not arrived yet so when she heard the gentle knock on her door, she was surprised. Her eyes widened a bit as two people she did not recognise entered her room. Sitting up a bit, Futaba croaked weakly "Y-yeah...I can a-a-answer some questions..."

[googlefont=Open+Sans] I think it's time to blow this scene [attr="class","firstfriend"] Get everybody and their stuff together he room had the same feeling that was everywhere else in this part of the hospital. Stepping inside the first thing to catch my eye was the girl in the bed. She looked like hell, but then again anyone stuck here for an extended stay usually didn’t look all that well. It was nice to see the collection of cards next to her bed though, hopefully this girl had friends that cared about her. Still, the atmosphere was downtrodden in this room. The girl was alone unfortunately. I would have preferred that she had at least one parent around but it wasn’t technically needed.
Bai took a quick scan of the room as soon as she came in. She did catch her partner obviously taken off guard by Futaba’s appearance. On the other hand Bai had been in a hospital long enough to not really see anything strange in people who didn’t look all that well. Hell she’d seen people missing large chunks of their bodies missing during her stay. But this part of the hospital was possibly more solemn, quiet. Everyone knew that if you were here for a long stay, chances are you weren’t looking at getting discharged… ever.
“Sorry for the intrusion. We’re conducting an investigation into the bomb threats and villain attacks throughout Musutafu. Like I said we have a few questions, it shouldn’t be anything difficult. If you could go through the series of events as you experienced them it would be a lot of help, the more detailed the better,” Bai said as she pulled out a small notebook and a pen from the pocket of the jacket she had on. She hoped that the girl was up to this, though what kind of cancer she had could make her pretty weak and that could have an impact on how well she could concentrate.
I really did feel sorry for the girl. Cancer was a hell of a thing to have at any age, especially having not even made it out of high school. It sucked that fate could deal out such a shitty hand to someone so young. Maybe it was just proof that evil wasn’t just something done by villains and criminals. Or maybe it proved that evil didn’t truly exist at all. I’m no philosopher though, and it ain’t my job to think about those things. I’m just here to solve a mystery.

Futaba hated being in the cancer ward. Everything felt too clean for her but Futaba could not muster enough energy to complain or even think about complaining. When her treatment started, she could function at least but now she just feels like she was wasting away. They had to start some type of treatment so she has been taking some disgusting medication. It had been making her extremely exhausted and she had been barely awake for most of her time in the hospital. It made her feel even more useless. It took most of the joy out of her life that Futaba that she never felt she would get back.
Closing her eyes for a bit, Fu pulled the seal plush close to herself. That night seemed so long ago now. What did happen? It felt all so blurry for her. "P-please excuse me if I sound a b-bit incoherent. "
Clutching her seal plush some more, Fu opened her eyes and tried to be as clear as possible. "I-I was in b-bed and then the bomb went off in that flower shop? Was it that? Anyway, I went to the music room after chatting with some of the students. We were told that there is a bomb. We were told we could act..."
Fu closed her eyes again, feeling miserable. Pressing the little button that was in her bed, some pain medication was pumped into her. Sighing a bit, Fu opened her eyes again. "I, we...We split up...I went into the theatre with Daiki...Taka, Ryuga, and Seraphine...We fought some villains...Nidhogg? I don't remember..." Fu sighed again, kissing her plushy.
"A-any specifics...?"

[googlefont=Open+Sans] I think it's time to blow this scene [attr="class","firstfriend"] Get everybody and their stuff together felt bad for the girl. And it made me feel bad to just be pitying her. But what else could someone do when a poor kid not even out of high school was in that kind of situation? Back when I was her age I didn’t think about things like life threatening diseases. Most of us didn’t when we were that age. We all took, and hell probably still do take what we have for granted. It was rare that anyone knew just what they had until they nearly lose it. In a way I guess I was uniquely connected to this girl in a way.
“It’s alright. Anything you can tell us could be helpful,” Bai said with a short nod. Listening to Futaba giving a brief description of what had gone down. It seemed pretty much in line with what they knew already. Mostly these interviews were to see if any of the students there had noticed any important details that the others might not have. Though it was starting to become evident that Futaba wasn’t in the best shape to be giving much detail. It was somewhat odd that she said she couldn’t remember much. As far as Bai knew she hadn’t suffered any injuries to her head during the incident. Unless that meant that…
No, that wasn’t a good thought right now. Bai already had enough on her plate and just knowing this girl had some form of cancer that confined her to the hospital was enough information. Writing down what little she did get from Futaba Bai felt a strange spark of… something inside of her. Maybe it was kindness or maybe it was something else. But this girl was in a bad state and she knew what it was like to be there. For the first few weeks after she had woken up from her coma she had been pretty sure she was going to die. The memories were still fuzzy to her but she remembered the fear. All the different machines hooked up to her to keep her alive.
“Can you give us a moment,” Bai said to her partner, who seemed rather relieved to be able to leave the room. Like everyone else he hadn’t been thrilled about the idea of coming here. It was a slight breach of protocol but she wasn’t interrogating someone or doing anything that would really get her in trouble.
“You know. Most people can’t say that they know what it’s like to be in your position,” Bai said as she turned to look out the window of the hospital. If one liked looking at the city it wasn’t a bad view. Hell it probably looked pretty amazing at night. “Five months ago I was put in the hospital. I was hurt pretty bad, the doctors said it was a miracle that I even made it to the hospital alive. I was stuck in the hospital for a while. I was in a coma for a while, and when I woke up I was scared you know. Stuck in a hospital bed, hooked up to a bunch of machines that were monitoring me and keeping me alive.”
“I can’t say I know what’s going on with you specifically. But I can say that you can’t give up hope. I honestly thought I’d end up disabled for the rest of my life at least. And I guess in a way I kind of am. But I’m still alive. In the end I only ended up as well off as I did because of a doctor with a pretty nifty healing quirk. Kind of ironic since I’ve always held a grudge against people like him. People with quirks I mean,” Pausing for a second Bai turned away from the window and faced Futaba again. She really did feel for the girl. “These doctors. Hell, most doctors. They really care. None of them want to see anyone here die and they’re gonna do their damndest to make sure that doesn’t happen. I guess what I’m trying to say here is that no matter how bad things look there’s always a chance that it’ll get better. It might not go back to the way things were before but once you’re in a spot like this it’s pretty hard for it to get much worse.”
Sighing slightly Bai pulled herself back into a more professional attitude. Tucking away her notebook back in the pocket they had been in she pulled out a card from her pocket. It was the same business card all the officers carried. Containing her name, badge number, the number to her direct phone at work as well as her work phone number. Writing down her own personal number at the bottom of the page she walked over to the table with all the cards that were probably from friends and relatives. “If you ever remember anything that seems important give me a call. Or if you just want to talk to someone whose been in a spot similar to your own,” she said before turning to leave the room.
She wasn’t going to get anything more out of Futaba right now and she wasn’t about to try and make the girl remember anything if she was in such a bad state. There were four others in that room with her that still needed to be debriefed. Making for the door she stopped just before leaving the room. “I’m not gonna say something cheesy like get better or anything. Just don’t give up, you never know what kind of miracles life might throw at you,” she said. With those words said she stepped out of the room. Silently nodding for her partner to follow along she made her way out of the cancer ward and out of the hospital. Forcing herself to stop thinking about Futaba Himura and her unfortunate circumstances. Right now she had a mystery to solve.
