WORD COUNT 280
| Hyousuke hadn't regretted getting into the fight. The people he'd fought had needed to be put in their place - they were vile, through and through, and needed someone to knock some sense into them. Sure, he'd gotten beaten in the process, but none of the injuries he'd sustained were lasting, and he suspected they probably wouldn't walk right for a while after - though that was thanks to Asahi. However, despite his lack of regrets, and the fact that he actually enjoyed getting into a brawl like that, he knew that it was only a matter of time before someone with authority wanted to see him.
He leaned back into the chair outside the vice-principal's office, looking unconcerned with what was happening. He had no doubt he'd be reprimanded - it would hardly have been the first time he'd been called into someone's office to get lectured about getting into a street fight, after all. He could already see how it was going to go. They'd ask him if he knew why he was being called in, then go on some spiel about how he was representing the school and had to act better than that. A pain in the ass to listen to, but nothing he couldn't endure.
Still, he was a little worried about the prospect of expulsion. He'd worked hard to get into the school, and if UA kicked him out, he wasn't sure where else was going to take him. Perhaps he'd have to be a little more careful this time around. He'd see when he got in - maybe the vice principal'd be a light touch, and let him off with a stern warning or something equally meaningless. |

The prospect of reprimanding a student for street fighting was not something she wanted to spend her friday afternoon doing. She was really a bad one to go to since she used to get into fights all the time with those that wanted to test just how much she could take a beating due to her quirk being what it was. An hour before, she had to listen to one of the teachers explain to her what had happened and how she had ought to expel the student due to the fight. She also had to endure a loooooong talk by one of the members of the school board about how fights like this would put a blemish on the school's reputation and that she ought to take this a bit more seriously. Tsubame, however, just absently listened as they droned on and on while she ate her 7th sandwich within the last two hours. She barely got any sleep the night before due to a conversation she'd rather not relive and ended up a sleep deprived zombie in the morning. Glancing up at the clock, she noted the time as her secretary gave her a folder of the kid she was about to talk to. Hyousuke Suzuki. This kid seemed a bit troubled, but he had promise from the reports in his file, though nothing a bit of training could help with. Tsubame noticed the door open and close as the secretary went to go get the student in question.
Sighing, Tsubame brought out yet another sandwich as she ate through the other one rather quickly. Her daily training took a decent amount of energy and with her hopping and bopping all around the school ninja-style, she tended to use quite a bit of her quirk daily. This was to train her limit to her quirk. The more she pushed it, the better she would be at withstanding the harsh side-effects of her quirk. Her meeting that was scheduled at this time had been put on hold to take care of the student's infractions. While Tsubame was good at being serious while reprimanding students for their rule breaking, she had to remember her own rule breaking. Man, she was a hypocrite, but she wanted to be a teacher to help her students grow, learn, and be a better person than she was.
When the student was let in and sat down, Tsubame smiled gently at Hyousuke with the normal teacher one she reserved for her students. However, as soon as she looked him over, she just sighed and took another bite of her sandwich. "Alright, Suzuki, I'm not going to beat around the bush and ask you why you are here. I had to listen to two staff members explain it to me and my secretary had to give me a folder; I'm pretty sure I know why you are here...." Tsubame looked down at the folder and skimming over what was written here and there. "My only question to you to start off was....why did fight?"

WORD COUNT 317
| Hyousuke walked in, trying to look as though he was actually taking it all seriously. To some degree, he was - he didn't want to be thrown out of such a prestigious school, after all. But he just couldn't bring himself to care about it as much as most other people would. He'd been through the whole routine before, more times than he could count, and he hadn't even started the fight that time. Hell, he'd actually been in the right, as far as he could tell - he'd fought people that deserved it, and he wasn't even the one that'd used a Quirk to lacerate their legs.
Once he was in, Hyousuke took a brief glance around the room, more out of curiosity than anything else. It was the first time he'd been in there, and he wanted to at least familiarise himself since he was certain that it wouldn't be the last time that he'd be there either. Much as he tried to be a better person than he was in middle school, old habits died hard. Hyousuke took a seat, as was typical. He sat up straight, and braced himself for that familiar old routine. Maybe something harsher, given how it was UA he was attending, but nothing that he couldn't take.
Her opening line, however, caught him completely off-guard. He'd prepared for some variation on the age-old script, but her just getting right to the point... speaking like she'd been through it with him before, and just wanted to get everything finished... Immediately, he started wondering how he was supposed to respond to such a question. Devoid of any kind of excuse he thought both believable and acceptable, he decided that the truth would probably be the best thing to offer up to her. "They were threatening me and a guy I was with. What else was I supposed to do but kick their asses?" |

Well now, that wasn't so bad of an answer. As long as he was being truthful, he would not get the wrath of the vice headmaster. While those around her thought she was just a silly woman who ate about half of the school cafeteria in a day, she did have a darker and more sterner side to her. She didn't like that side of herself, but she brought it out when it was needed. This boy didn't seem to take this at all seriously, however, and that part got to Tsubame just a tiiiiiiny bit. While she understood why he did it, she needed him to understand that you can't just push the rules away when they didn't suit you. This was also a lesson she learned the hard way. Her elbows rested on the desk as the sandwich stayed poised near her mouth, just narrowing her eyes at him. She chose her words carefully, not wanting to upset him while still keeping her role as Vice Headmaster in check. To give context to the room around them, the office was a semi-big white room with a dark hardwood heavy desk in front of her. The windows in the back of her went from floor to ceiling on both walls since the room was in the corner of the building. Picture frames littered the walls of her with other pro-heroes, her and Walter, her and Hideki, her family on both sides, and a painting of a French countryside at sunset.
Tsubame's eyes did not take themselves off of the boy as she gathered her words. "I'm glad you are being honest, but could you at least care about what happened?" She spoke rather informally normally, but in this instance it was more noticeable. She knew that one wrong step could get you thrown off the hero path and into some other much darker paths. The thought of any of her students going into a darker path did not sit well with her. Because she was who she was, she became fiercely protective of those under her even if they were not her direct students. "Listen, Suzuki, what happened is going to be classified as self-defense, because it was, but you have to understand that while you are in UA, you have to play by the rules given to you." Tsubame was not harsh, nor was she too soft. She held her usual gentle stern tone and attitude like usual. "While you are here you cannot be caught in fights. I'm not going to get into that it looks bad at the school, but it also reflects onto you as a hero and who you want to be for the people. If you get caught in fights while still going to school and they end up not going so well....public opinion can be a double edged sword." Tsubame took another bite of her sandwich. Man this turkey with swiss was really good.
Tsubame then spoke after a moment. "There are fights you can run away from. You won't be weak for doing so. It is considered a strength to know when to run and when to fight. Which takes me to my next question, what made you want to fight? And i'm not talking about the threatening part, but deep down there had to be SOMETHING that made you want to fight."
She leveled her amber yellow eyes on Hyousuke, wondering just how such a boy could be this way.

WORD COUNT 395
| He did care about what'd happened - he'd spared the energy to slug it out with the girls that were threatening him and his acquaintance. What he didn't really care about, beyond curiosity at how she was different to the rest of the authority figures that'd tried to make some kind of impact on him (or just get him out of their hair), was listening to her ramble on about why he shouldn't be fighting. As much as he was pleased that she seemed to at least partially understand him, he wasn't one to enjoy sitting around and waiting for things to be over.
She gave him things to think on as she continued, of course. The rules and expectations set in place for him as a student of Japan's most prestigious hero school, and how the public might perceive him constantly getting into fights - or, at the very least, seeming far more eager to get into them than he really should have. He didn't think much or for long, given that he had to keep at least some of his focus on her so that he could at least look like he was listening and able to answer her questions, but they were certainly pushed the back of his mind for later.
That point about it being a strength to know when to turn tail... That seemed to perk him up. Rather than look eager, though, there was a pang of annoyance in his expression. Like he was offended at the thought - at the very notion - that he would ever turn his back on the chance to throw down with someone. He did his best to hide it, like he did with a lot of his emotions, but for a few moments, it was bared for all to see. "I fought because I had to." He said, once he'd collected himself as much as he could. "They were looking for trouble. I gave it to them."
He'd tried to make it sound like he was in the right, and that what'd happened was inevitable. But the harshness with which he spoke, and the edge to his voice as he referred to the girls... There was genuine malice in there, however slight. "They were going to keep being a problem unless someone taught them a lesson. With all due respect, I don't think I did anything wrong." |

How many times had Tsubame been in this exact situation, but opposite? Many times. The answer would be way too many times to count. It wasn't her picking the fights, usually, but it was those around her wanting to test their skills against her. Either way it was, she shouldn't have just kept up the fighting since it wasn't good for either party. Many times it ended up with her in the hospital due to the harsh downsides to her quirk. The school cafeteria was never really enough to sustain Tsubame. Even now she has to keep a bigger food budget than most to just keep her body going on a daily basis. Had it not been for her friends at UA, she probably would have continued on the path she had put herself on at the start. What drew Tsubame out of her thoughts was the answer to her question she had posed to the young student. At the answer, she narrowed her eyes at him a bit to think it over. He did not think he was wrong, and that in itself was a problem.
"So you think that enacting justice based on what you think is right is okay?" Tsubame's voice hardened a bit. Her eyes flashing a bit with her sudden dark tone. Was he really not caring about what punishment could happen to him should he continue this at school? "There are many who look for trouble but you do not have to be the one to give them the satisfaction of a fight. As I said before, there is a strength in turning away." Tsubame felt like a broken record, but it seems it needed to be put into this boys head again and again. She could understand painfully well where this boy was coming from, but she also knew that he needed to be turned away from the path he seemed to have set himself on. Slowly, Tsubame took another bite of her sandwich, keeping her eyes leveled at Hyousuke. "But what you did, even if you think it was for the right reasons, was wrong. Yes heroes do fight, but that is not all what heroes are meant to do. They lead, they help others, they mediate, and so much more. There are always going to be villains in the world, and as much as this school teaches that we can fight and bring peace to the world, there will never be a time where there won't be a villain to do wrong or to just give everyday trouble."
Tsubame looked at him with a gentle expression now, her voice softer as she set her sandwich down to really look at him. "If you think that you have to fight all the bad people in the world just because you think they will keep making trouble, then you are going to be very tired, Suzuki. No matter how much you think you can do it, some people don't change. Given lessons or no." She sighed as she felt like the past vice headmaster must have felt when she was brought in here daily. Oh how she understands now. "I'm going to ask you to re-think your answer to my question again: Why do you fight? It is the reason that keeps us all going on our paths. I understand how you must be feeling, really, I do."
Tsubame then felt a chill down her back as if the school board itself was walking over her grave. Grumbling to herself she brought up the letter given to her by said school board on how to take care of such a problem. She did not like the punishments written down and soon decided to just give her own. Surely he did not think he would get off scott free? "And you can think over your question in detention. It'll be a set week of detentions with me after school. We will meet in the training hall." Tsubame began to fill out a sheet with the name of the student, along with the date and time set for the detention. She was actually letting him off quite easy.

WORD COUNT 406
| Again with the questions. The expression he pulled was somewhere between frustrated and furtive - despite how much he silently insisted to himself that she was wrong, and that he didn't have to listen to a word she was saying once he was in the clear, something deep inside of him stirred. It told him that there was at least something right in what she said, and that perhaps he was going about this the wrong way. She wasn't talking to him like he was just some thorn in her side, after all. She genuinely seemed like she was trying to understand and help him.
He wanted to answer her, of course. He wanted to tell her that yes, he thought that meting out punishments was alright - that he knew what he was doing, and that he didn't need someone interfering with that. There was an urge welling up inside him that demanded - screamed at him - to let her know that he was willing to take on the burden. He'd fight for as long as he had to - or as long as he lasted - if it meant that he could beat villains into the pavement, and make sure they'd never be a problem for anyone again. But against the barrage of armour-piercing enquiries, and how much introspection he was suddenly forced to do, Hyousuke couldn't bring himself to answer with much more than an increasingly frustrated expression.
Her last one - regarding the question of why he fought - was the only question he could answer with any kind of immediacy or confidence. And yet, despite knowing exactly the reason, he feigned not knowing, pretending that he couldn't quite put his motivations into words. Something told him that she probably wouldn't take too kindly to hearing him say something as selfish as him working towards becoming a hero solely to spite those that said he couldn't. Though he'd never admit it, he was a gloryhound, and a particularly prideful one at that.
"It's because I..." He began, trying to make it seem like he actually had a legitimate reason to want to fight so badly, rather than just his own ego. "I just... Wait, training hall?" Hearing that he was going to get detention was really only a surprise because he'd expected something more severe. Hearing about the training hall was what blindsided him. "What do you want me in there for?" He was genuinely confused, and it showed. |

This. This was going to take more than one talk with Hyousuke to try to get him to see reason. How easily it was to walk down the wrong path when you don't care what happens to those around you. Tsubame merely sighed as she listened. What more was it going to take? The detention she spoke of would only serve to punish him if he didn't want to learn from what he did. However, if he was open to hearing out what she had to teach him, then perhaps he was able to right himself. If she could help her students at least a little bit, it would make her venture with being a teacher worth it. She adored being a teacher, but sometimes she wondered just what her place in the world was. Perhaps that was her problem when she was in UA Academy all those years ago. She didn't yet know the answer fully to her own questions. Why did she fight? What made her want to keep getting up and going throughout years? There were plenty of reasons that had arisen, but there is only about a handful that really kept her going whether it be people, goals, or even just things she finds in her life. The sandwich found her hand again as she took another bite absently. This was going to take a while.
When he had asked about the training hall, she just nodded as a small smile lit her face. Training was her favorite thing to do. It got her blood pumping and her body moving. It also got her thinking introspectively about things that have been bothering her or that she feels she needs to improve. It was a doubled edged sword, so it could either go bad for her mental health and body, or good for it. She didn't usually care about what happened as long as she learned from the event. "Yes, the training hall is where your detentions will take place. Or really...wherever I end up having them. I like to take things day by day, but it will start in the training hall." She continued to write down a letter to the school board to (attempt) to explain her decision for her punishment for Hyousuke Suzuki and how she feels it will help. Training of the mind, body, and spirit does have it's good sides when done correctly. Questions were what helped people find out what was plaguing them, what brought them closer to their 'selves'. Tsubame felt it was okay to question everything. All knowledge is good knowledge. "You will find that out once you get there, Suzuki." Her expression turned into a dark grin as her eyes seemed to glow with excitement. She almost seemed like a cat looking at her prey. "Don't back down, Suzuki. Consider this the ultimate fight."
Just as soon as her dark expression came, it went just as fast. She grinned brightly now as her tone changed to an almost sickeningly sweet uplifting one. "Besides, if you refuse the detention, I really will have to expel you."

WORD COUNT 314
| Hyousuke was confused, but thought that - all things considered - he was at least getting something different than the usual bout of suspension or a threat of expulsion. A lot of the teachers he'd had the displeasure of arguing with about his many escapades had gotten him used to the standard range of punishments and methods of reform available to him, so having her propose something else entirely... He was intrigued, if nothing else. Maybe not enough to offer some cocky smirk back at her, but he leaned in slightly closer, wanting to hear about what she had in store for him.
Unfortunately for him, she was remaining tight-lipped on the matter. Stubborn as he was, even he knew enough to know not to bother pushing it with her. He couldn't help the disappointed - and very slightly worried - expression that flitted onto his face at knowing this, though, and he straightened back up once it was clear that he'd just have to give it time if he were to get anywhere. What he hated most was her calling it the 'ultimate fight -' he wasn't sure if it was supposed to build hope, fear, anticipation, some combination of them, or something else entirely. But whatever she'd hoped for, he wagered that it was working.
"Don't back down? Doesn't sound like I've got a choice." He managed to curl his mouth up into a sharp, sly smile, though it was far from genuine. When he looked at her, he was tense. He wasn't facing down some backalley thug, or someone that put too much stock in their Quirk to be taken seriously. This was someone he feared could erase his existence without even trying, if she so desired. Though he tried to hide the nervousness creeping into his eyes, there was no disguising the fact he'd handed in it, he knew it. "So when do I start?" |

"Oh we all have choices, Suzuki," Tsubame replied evenly as she continued to write on the paper. Her handwriting was very neat and orderly, nothing like her personality at all. Her office reflected that part of her. While the walls were neat and orderly with the pictures and paintings, her desk was another story. Papers scattered all over with ink pens and pencils laying here and there with use. A calendar with several dates circled and several notes scribbled on each of them. As soon as she finished, she set the letter aside to send to them later. Perhaps it would help not get her another lecture by two staff members. She did not enjoy being told something she already knew. As she glanced back up at the student, she sighed and wondered if any of her words were actually setting in. Teachers had that stigma of just preaching and lecturing on and on. Had she become the adult she loathed as a student? Well, surely she hit that milestone back in her early twenties. "In fact, the choices you make in this school will effect your life onward. And how you go about your choices will also create a big impact. That is why I asked what your motivation for fighting was."
Leaning back in her chair she kept her eyes on Hyousuke. She wanted to get through to him, to get him to see reason, but she didn't want to come off too strong and scare him away. She heard the door creak open slightly and the patter of paws on carpet was heard. Soon enough, Kuro, her black cat jumped on the desk and gave a soft yowl. She was cross from being left on the secretary's desk. Noticing the sandwich, the black cat tore off part of the crust and ate a bit. Tsubame just pushed the rest of the sandwich over to Kuro. Then, a thought came. She used Kuro for all her training, or at least the parts of the heavy duty endurance fighting. Kuro was experienced at training with her students, and people in general, so she would do well to help her with Hyousuke. "Your detention starts tomorrow after classes. You are to report to me in the training hall at 4:30 sharp. Bring training clothes and plenty of water."

WORD COUNT 238
| Hyousuke had a lot to say to her about her lecturing him. Chief above all of them, though, was that he didn't care - he was just there so that he wouldn't get expelled. He wouldn't say it to her face, of course, but the fact of the matter was that he just wanted her to stop bothering him so that he could get back to training. True, she could have been training him somehow - but he thought it more likely that she was going to issue some kind of gruelling, punishing exercise that'd push even him to his limits. She'd probably make him switch his stamina regeneration off too, if his gut was right.
He was distracted from his reverie by the sight of a black cat, however. Instinctively, he reached his hand out slowly to let it sniff him, and get familiar with him so that he could pet it - until he remembered where he was, and withdrew it before he could be seen even trying. Judging by how it was acting, it was her cat, and he wasn't sure how she'd feel about some wannabe delinquent trying to get friendly with her pet. That, and showing weakness and vulnerability in front of her wasn't an option, in his mind. Pride, foolish stubbornness... He couldn't tell what it was, and frankly, didn't care. "Half four. Fine, I'll be there. Is that going to be all for now?" |

Despite the airs that this kid was putting on, Tsubame kept up her grin since she knew that after her detentions he might change his tunes. If not, a certain lesson could be implemented so that she could get it into his head that fighting among others for just the hell of it was not an option when going on the path of a hero. However, if he planned on going off path, she couldn't stop him since it was his choice, but she could show him the error of his ways and try to convince him at the very least. Kuro noticed his hand coming towards her and sniffed at the air to get a good read on the kid. She wasn't afraid of Hyousuke, but she was more interested in the sandwich in front of her than human contact. Tsubame, though, noticed the movement and noted it for later. An animal lover was not always a bad person, you know? Plus, if Kuro didn't find anything wrong with him, then Tsubame had nothing to really worry about since she trusted Kuro's instincts for the most part.
Tsubame smiled at Hyousuke with her good nature. The plans she had for this kid was making her excited to be a teacher again. It seemed they all came out of the woodwork with this new year of students. She would force him to shed his pride and selfish attitude and make him see the world for what it was. It did not revolve around him, nor would it ever, and she would get him to see that. Kuro licked her paw as Tsubame ruffled the fur on top of the cats head. Leaning her cheek on her hand as she observed the boy in front of her. "Yes, quite right, Suzuki, you may leave for the time being." Her voice was even, but if you really knew Tsubame, you could be able to hear the slight excitement simmering in the back of her tone. "Think of the question I asked you and I expect you to continue to think of it while in detention. Good day, Suzuki."
