What a bright and sunny afternoon! And the weather person said it was going to rain today. What lies. Tsubame was dressed in her usual casual training clothes. A black tank top with her black and grey sweat pants. Over all of that was her short sleeved long red coat. She would have loved to go barefoot like usual, but sadly society looked down upon that sort of behavior from adults. She wore her black sneakers instead that allowed her to move quickly without having to worry about her losing shoes. Again. She moved her hands up deftly to tie up her hair in a ponytail with her bangs framing her face nicely. Today was an odd day, because for once she was not training after school. It had been her usual with Hyousuke for a week, but since you can't beat it into students heads, she quietly informed the school of her outing to get some supplies for the school from the local supplier they had a contract with. It also gave her some time to talk with the boy. Word was that some things were going down with the boy, but she did not know much more than rumors at the moment. Perhaps he would be easily persuaded to talk today. Due to the concern of villains around lately, she brought along her katana that was attached at her hip under her long coat. She did not want what happened last time with that bunny vigilante to happen again. The less of her quirk she has to use, the easier it is on her body. She wore her usual hip pack that was filled with various snacks, her throwing weapons, and her cell phone just in case she needed to call the school or even just Walter since he was the headmaster after all. Technology alluded her, but she got her phone to work, so that was something at least. "Are you coming, Suzuki? Don't forget this is a 'school fieldtrip slash detention trip'. As your Vice Headmaster, I have to make sure you come back alive....heh." The talk with the school board over doing this was a tough one. They were wondering why she needed to take a student with her to get some supplies; she said it was to just have an extra hand carrying things and maybe talk with the student in question over what has been happening lately. They were not fully on board, but they allowed her to do what she wished to help kill two birds with one stone. Tsubame scratched at her face sheepishly as she continued to walk down the street. The shops had all sorts of support gear for the heroes. This was also to try and get him to think about using some to try and use his quirk better. It was worth a shot. Tsubame also needed to get something from a friend of hers that worked in specialized hero support gear. With her quirk the way it was, she came very close to death quite a few times. So in her half-drunk haze of her night drinking with her friend, she whined to him that she was never sure of how long she had till her body gave out on her. It was plenty too late since she was only now a part-time hero and this would have saved her many hospital visits in the past, but better late than never. She glanced over at Hyousuke in thought. Surely he would open up now that they are away from the pressure of the school, right? She hoped that their training sessions helped to at least get him to think a bit more. She could only hope that she would get through to him at some point. He had such potential and was, at his core, seemingly a very kind and good kid. "How have you been lately, Suzuki? Any updates on how your classes are going?" Tsubame was being gentle and calm with him. She felt guilty for letting her temper get the better of her last time, but she had to do what she had to do. "Have you made any new friends lately?" Hyousuke Suzuki

WORD COUNT 555
| Hyousuke had tried to hide his injuries - or rather, the bandages covering them - as best he could. A long-sleeved shirt took care of the arms, of course, but anyone paying even the slightest bit of attention to him would see that the strips of white covering his hands. Fortunately, the pain had since subsided, and he could move them around without too much issue, but it would still be difficult to hide what had happened to his hands without gloves - and even then, that would probably still raise questions, given the time of year. It was only going to be a matter of time before his teacher started on him about it too.
He'd brought a bag with him - a black messenger bag, to be more precise, slung over his shoulder - but he wasn't entirely sure if he was even going to be putting anything into it. As far as he was aware, they weren't going to be doing the usual training - not that he could manage it anyway, if he wanted his burns to heal properly in any sort of timely fashion - but that only made him more suspicious. The woman was up to something, and he hadn't a clue as to what that was.
"Please, I'm too stubborn to die so easily." He mused, waving his hand dismissively at her. He could manage that, at the very least. Considering the fact that a single blast had been enough to damage his arms so much, and that he'd had a string of losses and draws against other students - at least two of which weren't even using their Quirks on him - his words rang hollow. It certainly wouldn't take much effort for a villain to take him down at all, and though he'd vehemently deny it, he knew it to be an unfortunate truth.
Even her seemingly-innocent questions were enough to provoke a sense of suspicion in him. He thought them to just be her trying to lull him into a false sense of security, put him at ease so that he'd be more open to answering something more sensitive. He decided he'd play along with her for the time being, and see where things were going. He'd address the issue of addressing any more sensitive questions when they came around. "It's going fine." He said. A curt answer, but that was the truth of it. "I'm doing alright, far as I can tell." His grades - for the moment - weren't worryingly low, and though his results in the hero course were below the class average, they were at least getting consistently better, albeit slowly.
"Friends? I-" He paused, trying to think. What friends had he made? He had acquaintances, of course. People that he wasn't friendly with, but got along with enough to work with. But actual friends? People that he would spend time with outside of classes of his own volition? That was a little more difficult to pin down. "Two, I guess. Someone in my class and someone in the business course." He wasn't sure that they'd consider him a friend, however. He wasn't sure if they were actually friends with him, pretending to be polite, or keeping him around because he might prove useful. "What, you worried I'm getting lonely out there?" He joked, trying to lighten the (but mostly his) mood. |

Well, that's something at least. He's got two friends. Maybe? Kids these days... Tsubame thought as she felt her inner old person just burn at her core as she realized that it had been quite a while since she had been in school and she would be turning 30 sometime....not quite close to a mid-life crises time, buuuuut she had her moments. She felt like she was a mom just asking her kid about his school day and the kid just kinda blows her off. At that moment Tsubame's baby clock was ticking louder. OKAY STOP THINKING NOW! Mentally Tsubame forced down everything else and just focused on Hyousuke. Her eyes drifted over his upper half because from what she had heard he had hurt himself. Again, nothing she was going to force out of him, but she wanted to know. From what she could figure, he was fighting among others again. As the Vice Headmaster, she couldn't let that go, but as his teacher (albeit detention teacher), she also couldn't let it go, but could be a bit looser in her judgments. He seemed to be a bit distant, though she felt it was less of a distance than the first meeting they had together. Silently she smiled gently at him when he wasn't looking and slowed her walk to walk beside him. She would bring up his injuries, but not just yet.
"That's wonderful~!" Tsubame cooed as she clapped her hands together once. Her grin towards him widened. A few people looked towards them, but they didn't stand out enough to keep their interest so they eventually looked back at what they were doing. However, a few people recognized Tsubame as being "Gatekeeper", and waved towards her frantically. She smiled sheepishly at them and waved back, quickly hurrying herself along to keep from being noticed. Tsubame both loved and hated being a hero. She loved it because she could help people no matter what. She hated it because of all the attention she got and still was getting. She didn't even pick her own hero name, it was just simply given to her by the public due to her quirk being really hard to get by. Though at this point, she'd rather be called "Gatekeeper" than "Bouncer", like at a bar. At his mention of where they were from, she brightened more because they were in the same school as Hyousuke. At his jab at her at the end, she chuckled with her amusement. "No....well....yes, but I have faith in you, Suzuki. School is all about finding yourself and finding others to share your life with. Friends are something that would be great to have. You've got to enjoy your youth!"
She looked up, seeing that they reached their first stop. It was an office supply store for the buisiness side of hero work, but it still carried things that the school needed. Someone kept stealing the pens in the teachers offices and her own offices. Not surprisingly, Walter's office was left untouched. Then again, nobody would dare to take the pens of the Headmaster. She opened the door quietly and let Hyousuke go in front of her before she walked in behind him. The Vice Headmaster looked around for a moment, admiring the little desk trinkets that had cute and helpful uses for things. It wasn't until a cute glasses adorned shopkeeper had come out and soon took down Tsubame's name and information to get her order for the school. It wasn't much, but they needed pens gosh darn it. As they waited, she waited for Hyousuke to talk again. However, due to her impatience, she took the initiative. "Have you been thinking about what i've been asking?" She asked it quietly, unsure if it was a subject she should even broach right now, but hey, it needed to be asked.

WORD COUNT 555
| Tsubame's looking at his upper half didn't go unnoticed. He tried to play it off like he was wondering why she wasn't looking at him, but he knew what it was she was glancing over. He'd gotten into a fight again. While he supposed that this one could've been excused as him simply doing as he was taught - being a hero - he knew that charging at someone with a dangerous Quirk and blocking a burst of flame with his bare arms was not just massively irresponsible - it was outright dangerous, and could've killed him if he'd not been lucky.
Briefly, he looked towards the people calling out her hero name, and tried to obscure his own face by looking down. He understood that they weren't interested in him, of course, but even so, he didn't really feel like drawing much attention to himself. Quietly, he paced after her, making sure to stick close and keep away from prying eyes. The last thing he needed was someone looking at his hands and wondering what happened with him - even more so since he was supposedly on thin ice with the school's administration. The fact that he hadn't already been kicked out on his arse was, he had to admit, a miracle.
He supposed that he could at least take some small comfort in the knowledge that they weren't talking about his injuries. The subject of friends was awkward for him, but less awkward than him getting into yet another scrap, and almost losing it with someone that he knew from before his time at UA. "I'll see what I can do." He responded, shrugging dismissively, with as light an expression as he could muster. "I'm trying to focus on my work though. It's why I'm here, ain't it?" He had to admit, though, that the idea of someone he could trust completely, and not have to put on airs with... It was nice.
Quickly, the thought was cast from his mind. He had other things to attend to - things like answering her question. It wasn't easy, and if he was to be honest, he wasn't sure he had a proper answer for her. Yes, he'd been thinking about it - but even a fool would know that she wouldn't be satisfied with that. He'd been reluctant to accept help at all at first - the fact that he'd been training with her at the start was more to do with being forced into it than any specific desire to.
And yet, stubborn as he was, Hyousuke couldn't ignore the evidence that had been piling up ever since he'd set foot in the school. Time after time, he'd suffered defeats or draws that he felt were just flukes. Even the wins he earned - like the one against his old 'friend -' were hard-fought, and all too often ended up with him walking away with some kind of obvious, lasting injury. It was a fact that he would never admit to anyone, but was forced to accept. It was something that he'd struggled with from the outset, and was painfully obvious to all who watched him.
He was weak.
He needed help, plain and simple. His pride demanded that he refuse what assistance she offered, of course. It shouted at him, commanded him to just say no. But for once in his life, the rational part of his mind managed to shout louder. That mountain of evidence of his own glaring weaknesses couldn't be ignored. Hyousuke's prospects were dead in the water if he didn't take the hand that reached out to him.
"I... have." He admitted quietly, voice gruff. He took a deep breath, and steeled himself. It was out there. He was certain she'd heard. No turning back from that. He'd just have to keep going. "You... You said you can teach me how to use a weapon. Well... teach me. Please." He spoke through grit teeth, but his words were still genuine. Sure, he rationalised it to himself as simply learning a new style. He told himself it wasn't showing weakness by relying on the strength of others, it was simply learning how to channel his own power in a different way. But even with his excuses, his desire to learn was there. |

"I understand, but it's okay to relax and have fun with friends now and then. What is that English phrase? All work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy? Pretty sure that's it." A light laugh floated from Tsubame's lips as she looked amused.
The woman shopkeeper came back a moment before she could respond to Hyousuke again and gave her a couple wrapped packages of pens and what looked like some cute notepads. When Tsubame looked up to question about the notepads, the shopkeeper gave her a wink and made a hushing gesture. The Vice Headmaster blushed slightly as she scratched the back of her head sheepishly. It wasn't like Tsubame to flirt, so she was simply awkward around people like that with the exception of perhaps two or three people within her life. Tsubame bowed politely to the shopkeeper and hurried Hyousuke out. She handed over the packages to him, if he took them that was, and looked around to see what else they had to get while here. Taking the moment that they had to think for a moment, she thought on his question of wanting to have her teach him a weapon. It wasn't an odd request to her, she had three students now that were learning from her what she knew. Her left hand rested on the hilt of her katana in thought. It was a good idea that he would find a skill to better use his quirk with. Someone that could generate energy and keep going, that type of stamina was something that was wonderful if one just had the skills to utilize it. Tsubame had to use her skills to use her quirk to it's fullest. "What weapon would you want to learn? I have a somewhat wide range of skills, but most of them are in the shinobi arts. What do you think you would be best at using and how it would help you in certain situations?"
Tsubame didn't really have a wide choice on what she learned, but she did get to chose within that range. Throwing weapons and kenjutsu was what she specialized in and it ended up becoming for the best for her since she was already able to defend herself using hand to hand combat. Slowly Tsubame looked around and noticed the shop her friend owned, but the time wasn't right since he needed some time to make adjustments. At least, that's what the text message she got before she left the school was saying. Without saying much anything else, Tsubame started to walk towards the next shop. They needed some pieces of gear for a few of the teachers at the school. It was usually up to the teachers to provide their own gear, but due to the method in which they broke, she figured it would be better if the school ended up replacing them anyway. Her hand rested on her katana hilt as her other hand went to her hip pack. A sandwich came out, she unwrapped it, and soon made it's way to her mouth where she just bit into it casually. As if remembering her manners, she pulled out a box of pocky and held it out to Hyousuke. "Would you like a snack?" Snacks were Tsubame's saving grace, as was her secretary when the paperwork was due, but snacks were something that she needed on a daily basis. Let's be honest, she'd be lost without her secretary, but the secretary was about third on her list of top things she needs at UA to survive.
Tsubame avoided the subject of his injuries again to give him time before that subject came up. She kept on chowing down on the sandwich as they walked. "Have you thought about using support gear? I honestly think that with your quirk as it is, you could do a good deal to help others. So far you were able to keep going when we were training; I think that is pretty amazing." The Vice Headmaster smiled down at Hyousuke with a gentle sort of kindness. Tsubame understood the importance of support gear and how it helped others either control their quirk, or helped channel it better to push the limits of it.

WORD COUNT 637
| A small smirk was offered back to her by way of response, but he remained unconvinced. Sure, he didn’t mind making friends - indeed, what desire he had to change had spurred him on to actually try and connect with those two he hoped he could consider friends with him. But his priority - the thing that would always come first, no matter what - was his work. Being a hero was all he wanted, and if he had to sacrifice having friends to achieve his goal, then he would make that sacrifice. Not that he wished to, but as long as it remained a possibility that he might have to, he had to remain prepared to.
Perceptive as he was in combat, Hyousuke wasn't exactly the brightest spark in the toolbox when it came to noticing more social-oriented cues. He wasn't entirely sure what was going on between the Vice Principal and the shopkeeper, even as he glanced curiously between them, but decided not to question it. It was probably something that he shouldn't want to get himself involved in. It was someone else's business, plain and simple, and it would be best for him to leave them to it. he took the packages without thinking - he was lost in thought, and by the time he realised he was carrying something, they'd already set off.
A quiet, suppressed sigh of relief slipped out past his lips. More than her refusal, he feared she'd make a huge deal out of him accepting her help - pats on the back, big grins, and all manner of mannerisms he felt would be patronising. There was, however, the matter of what he actually wanted to learn from her. For a few seconds, he was quiet, wondering where his strengths would best be used, but it was an easy decision for him to make. "The sword." He said curtly, but with conviction.
"I know how to fight up close. I just..." He recalled the fights where he'd been tackled to the ground the moment he threw a punch, tossed to the mat like a ragdoll. Despite all his strength, he'd been easy to counter. He remembered confronting the thief, and how he'd not been fast or strong enough to take him down before the blast. "I need something more." Strength, he wanted to say. Power. A weapon that would give him an edge in battle - perhaps even end fights before they began, with the threat of using steel. But to admit that would be to admit weakness. To profess a dearth of strength. And he wasn't prepared for that, not with her.
Her offering him a snack shook him out of his reverie, and he snapped back to attention. "Oh, uh, yeah. Thanks." Shuffling a bit to free up his hands, he took a stick from the box, and ate it slowly. Partly to savour it, and partly because he was still thinking. Like he was in a trance. The topic of support gear only drove him into a deeper trance, and once again, two sides of him began to argue. That stubborn side of him that held fast to his beliefs, and a more rational voice that cried out for change.
"Maybe... Maybe something with my visor." He sounded far from his usual, confident self. It was like he was forcing himself to admit it - forcing himself to speak, since the words wouldn't come out unless he dragged them. "Nothing much. Night vision, infrared, maybe a radio." A far cry from electrified swords or strength-enhancing power armour, but the fact that he was taking a step forward at all was worth noting. Though they'd not been training together for long, she'd already started to chip away at the walls he'd built. It would likely be slow going, but any progress was better than none. |

It would seem to the Vice Headmaster that she was somewhat getting through to him. Little by little, but I seem to be making progress, Tsubame thought with a small smile as she walked forward with Hyousuke. The day seemed to be lovely and keep to that setting even as the day progressed. Hopefully there would be no problems later on today. She brought her sword and her other assorted weapons, but she was still hoping for an uneventful time. With how stressed her body was lately she was sure she would make another trip to the hospital should another full on fight break out. As it was, she was unsure how much longer she could push her body to the limit without accidentally going too far. So far in her school days and career as a pro-hero, not counting her days as a teacher, she spent a total of 876 days in the hospital with the worst of them being in her pro-hero days. The incident with Walter going berserk would probably be her longest stay within the hospital due to the large claw gashes on her stomach and various wounds and bruises on her body. Her bones may be hard to break, but the rest of her was still able to be wounded on the surface as well as internally. Today her body felt okay, though even after all her 29 years of living, she still didn't know at what level of okay she was at in any given moment. It was partially why she still ate the way she did before. She had to; it kept her energy up as well as her weight to offset the harsh side effects of her quirk.
Listening to him talk, she felt that a weapon would more than likely help him build a skill to use his quirk to it's fullest, but she wanted him to want it for the right reasons instead of just trying to get stronger for the wrong ones. Tsubame did not train those that wish to use their skills and quirks for nefarious purposes, but they also had to have good reasons for wanting to learn from her. It was perhaps selfish of her to be so picky, but she had to be sure they were using their skills for the purpose that benefited others and not just themselves. She didn't want her legacy to become dark with misuse. It wasn't just her that learned the shinobi arts from her father. Her brothers were trained as well, some of them just haven't gone the same paths as the other siblings. That was their choice and Tsubame was happy to just see her brothers happy with their lives. Of course, she got a couple nieces and nephews out of it from two of her brothers. More to learn the from the family history line. It was only Tsubame that willingly taught it to others outside of the family due to her not having any children to pass it on to at the moment. Her mother and father constantly asking when they will be grandparents again.
Breaking herself out of her thoughts, she bit into her sandwich again as she looked down at Hyousuke. "Sword, huh? We'll see, but in order to gain that type of skill, you must first clear up up here." Tsubame poked at his forehead gently, not unkindly, as she smiled at him just as gently. This time she spent with Hyousuke made the woman realize that she began to see him in a different light and want to help him more and more. Sure it would more than likely take everything in her power as Vice Headmaster and even as just her regular self, she knew that if she could help him along down the path he really wants to go, then she'd take that as something worthwhile in her life that she did. "We're making a short stop before we have to go get the rest of the supplies at the main shop. I think I have someone there that could help you along if you really would like help in the support gear area." Tsubame said as she then bit into the last remaining bite of her sandwich and looking down at him and quietly responding at last before they hit the door to the small and rather shabby looking shop in front of them. "It's okay to accept help from support gear. It could offer some new ways to use your quirk or even just to boost your abilities as they are." It wasn't the most subtle way to try and pump up the option, but it was at least out there now.
Tsubame opened the shop door quickly to let the bell ring overhead. The shop itself was small and dingy looking, but the gear behind the counter that was being worked on as well as what was on display was in pristine condition. At the desk was a man who had his head resting on his arm while his other arm was curled around the back of his head. He looked pretty tired and had an irritated air about him as if Tsubame and Hyousuke were interrupting his nap. At the irritated glance by the man, Tsubame grinned as she greeted the man. "Long night, Haru-kun?" The man made a rude gesture as he pushed himself up from the table. "Hey, keep it PG, I got a kid with me." The man's half-lidded eyes glanced over Hyousuke before looking at Tsubame as he pointed at her.
"I have that thing you whined about."
"I did not whine....I was drinking...." Tsubame looked away with a slight frown.
"You whined about dying while drinking a couple nights ago. Close enough." The man pushed himself off the counter to rummage underneath the counter for something. "I figured you were coming by soon so I stayed up late to make it. It's still in the early stages, but at least it'll help you now." His voice sounded so sleepy as he moved things around.
Tsubame sighed but decided to explain to Hyousuke who this man was. "This sleepy and rather grumpy man is named Hatsuharu Ito. He was once a classmate of mine and the Headmaster's. He also was known to create some pretty awesome support gear."
"I still do!" Hatsuharu grumbled loudly as he sighed and scratched at his black haired bed ragged head. "Wait here, I think it's in the back."
"Sure thing, Haru-kun." Tsubame motioned for Hyousuke to look around. "Why not look around while we are here? Haru-kun may not look it, but he is one of the best in the business. We also can go by the weapons shop my family frequents in town to see about getting you a training weapon while we are out and about."

WORD COUNT 703
| Gentle though the poke was, it was nonetheless unexpected, and had him flinching rather ungracefully. He frowned a little, though it was more an exaggerated, joking response than anything else, and he turned his attention back to the path before him.It was strange to him, though - only once before had he had someone willing to go to such lengths to help him achieve his dream, and he'd had to leave them behind when he got to UA. It wasn't something he was used to, with everyone in his life waiting for the day that he'd finally give up the ghost. If he was to be honest, he himself wasn't entirely sure if the path of the hero was his to take.
"Yeah, I know, I know." He grumbled, in response to her remark about support gear. He thought it a little patronising that she just outright said it - it wasn't like he hadn't thought that to himself before. The issue was that he'd dismissed the thought - cast it out of his mind, regarded it as a notion of weakness. To accept help would be to admit that he wasn't strong enough to stand on his own, that he needed a crutch - even something as small as a radio embedded in his visor was difficult for him to ask for. It wounded his pride, like carving off a part of his flesh.
To Hyosuke, pride was all he had. It was the basis for his very being - it was the force that forced him to move forward and train no matter what, to weather whatever befell him and keep going against the odds. So, to attack something so integral to his very being, was to attack Hyousuke himself. No matter whether it was his teacher speaking something he knew deep down to be true, or him admitting it to himself against insurmountable evidence, to wound his pride was to wound him. It was, in short, painful.
But growth did not come without pain. It was a lesson his old teacher had instilled in him, time and again, until it was ingrained in his very soul. If he was to become the hero he wanted to be, he would have to relent, even just a little. "Let's just go already, I want see this person you're talking about." He was reluctant, yes. His natural instinct was to resist. But, stubborn as ever, he ignored even his own instincts in order to push forward and make even a little progress.
She said to keep it PG, but Hyousuke could only smirk at the rude gesture. He'd seen - and, in most cases, heard - far worse than just that. He just did a good job of hiding the influence it had - most of the time, anyway. He decided to keep quiet while they were talking, glancing curiously about the shop as they bantered at each other, taking in the gear around them. A veritable treasure trove to some, perhaps, but a source of internal conflict for Hyousuke. Nevertheless, when he was invited to look around, he obliged, nodding curtly - but not before quipping back at her. "What, you're not just going to give me a deadly weapon I'm not trained to use right off the bat?"
Not being particularly well-versed in support gear - being unaccustomed to seeing it up close, much less handling it - Hyousuke wasn't entirely sure what he was looking for or at, or even how to tell the man's works' quality beyond 'does or does not look like it might fall apart in a stiff breeze.' He gave everything he passed by at least a glance, though, regardless of whether he knew what they even did. Naturally, his eyes fell on something that looked like what he'd been talking about before - vision-enhancing eyewear. No doubt the ability to use thermal, night, and zoomed-in vision would be useful, especially against foes that relied on stealth and subterfuge, but there was a problem.
The goggles were bulky.
"That size is going to be a problem..." He muttered quietly to himself, scratching the side of his head as he wondered if incorporating them into his visor would be worth it, given the size and weight of the things. |

Hyousuke's respond to her talking about getting him a training weapon made her laugh. She rolled her eyes with a smirk and just waved him on. The shop was just as she remembered it in her younger Hero days. Haru always was a bit messy and his work tended to be a mash of 'amazing' and 'made from everything he could get his hands on' type of things. It was how he worked and so far his support gear helped her out of some tight spots in regards to certain villains or situations. Hatsuharu Ito was not cut out for Hero work, but he was an amazing Support Hero and support gear creator. If it could be made, Haru would be the man she would turn to if she needed something. It was just that she usually did not like the price tag attached to it even with the discount she got. Haru needed to make a living as well, she knew. While she was waiting at the front desk for Haru, Tsubame looked around at her student, trying to be subtle, and noticed he was in deep thought. A smile lit her face as she hoped that Haru's work might put a move on to some of the boy's feelings about being a hero. Letting Hyousuke look around and think, she noticed a small photo frame on the desk behind the counter. It was a blast from the past with Haru, Tsubame, and Walter all taking a picture. Haru and Walter looked their serious selves, with Haru looking annoyed as Tsubame was grinning and holding up a peace sign in front of them closer to the camera. She quietly chuckled at the memories she had at UA.
"What are you laughing about like usual, Tsubame?" The grumpy voice from before had sounded as he came back with a small necklace case. If someone could look even more tired and grumpy, Haru was doing a wonderful job of it.
"Oh you know, mon cheri, I would never laugh at you." Tsubame grinned at the now approaching Haru with a slightly flirty glint to her eyes. Haru knew better and just rolled his eyes.
"Don't let your fan-club hear you flirting, Tsubame. Also, here, what I promised to make you." After he handed her the necklace case, he sank to the counter again like the first time they saw him and just looked up at Tsubame as she opened it carefully. "I made it easy to wear since I know you prefer to keep anything bulky out of your way. Just press the clip together in the back once you put it on. I made it idiot proof."
"So mean, Haru-kun..." Tsubame muttered as she opened the box to reveal a black leather and cloth strip, about half an inch across strip. There was a small metal circle tag at the front with the words 'Gatekeeper, if lost, please return to UA Academy'. It took a moment for Tsubame to process that this does in fact look like a cat collar, and that kind of pissed her off. "Haru-kun....why does this look like a collar I would give to Kuro?"
Haru just grinned at her through his hair and sleepy gaze. "Cause you, in all sense of you, are actually a cat in a human body. So I took liberties in making it as inconspicuous as possible." However, his grin dropped as he flipped back to his more serious tone. "This is also something I should have made for you when we were in school. You still having a hard time telling when you're gonna run outta juice? Well this little device will take readings from your skin and calculate how much you got left before someone should call the ambulance for you. It's not perfect, and i'd like you to come back again to get it calibrated at least once monthly, but it will help you in the long run avoid more hospital stays. Though it won't help you when you get sliced and diced and banged around, especially against Walter, but in your daily life and in fights, the simple stuff at least, it should help you not fall flat."
At the mention of Walter and her fighting, her gaze tightened and she just nodded. She did not want to think about that right now. She put it on and clipped it in the back like he said to. The metal disk was actually a small computer and would change the color of the small jewel-like crest that was also attached to rings. Red for danger, yellow for 'needs attention', and green for okay. As Tsubame tinkered with the set up of her new support gear, Haru turned his gaze back to Hyousuke.
"Hey kid, you want something too? I'll put it on your Vice Headmaster's tab." Tsubame heard, but only sighed before turning back to what she was doing. "Tsubame here told me that you might be interested in support gear. I can make just about anything. What is your problem?" Haru was anything but gentle when it came to asking people what type of support gear they needed.
Tsubame's head snapped back to Haru and chastised him. "Haru-kun, be more gentle in asking people that."
"Yeah yeah, but i'm still talking to the kid. Do you have any specific needs that need to be filled?"

WORD COUNT 313
| Hyousuke all but jumped to attention at the mention of his name, his focus having solely been on the goggles the whole time. Silently observing the banter between the two until it was his turn to speak, he turned to face the vice-principal's friend, still gingerly holding the piece in his hands, glancing nervously between them and him. For few, awkward moments, he hesitated, still unsure about asking for help, let alone asking for support gear. However, after a deeper breath in through his nose, he managed to set aside his feelings enough to actually speak to Haru about what he'd be needing out of the eyewear.
"I was... I was hoping for something like this. But not exactly." Again, he paused, until it suddenly dawned on his addled mind that that probably wouldn't be enough for Haru to go off of if he was going to design something that would actually help him out in the field. "It's just... It's bulky. I'm a brawler, I fight up close, so I can't use these like they are." Indeed, it'd be like having a weight attached to his face whenever he put them on. It was one thing to use them with ranged weapons or Quirks, but another to get into a scrap with them.
"Could you slim them down somehow? But keep night and thermal vision in there?" He didn't quite know how either worked, or if it was even possible, but he supposed there'd be no harm in asking, difficult though it was for him. "My Quirk can supply power, so I guess you could take that out of them?" For someone that was always so confident - often bordering on arrogant - he sounded remarkably unsure of himself in that moment. Like he wasn't sure if he even should have been there in the first place, let alone asking for something from Haru. |

Haru wasn't mean per-say, he just didn't take much liking to beat around the bush with niceties. Tsubame was used to him at this point, but she knew that new people sometimes took it back a bit when it came to his attitude. Tsubame watched as Hyousuke responded to Haru's questions with some slight hesitation. She knew that Haru would be the one to push him towards support gear, or at least get his feelings out about it. As much as Tsubame could try, she didn't have the same blunt personality like Haru did to get an answer. Sometimes it's best to leave some things to the professional grumpy people. Silently she ran her hands over the small silver disk at the front of her new support gear and wondered if this would indeed help her in the long term. She couldn't see the color from where it was, but it would be the best thing she had right now to avoid as many trips to the hospital she had when she was in UA and as a pro-hero. It's a miracle anyone liked her as a pro hero with as many times as she had put herself in the hospital. Tsubame watched as Haru nodded to Hyousuke; letting the kid explain himself so he could better help him. Tsubame was proud that Hyousuke was actually letting Haru help him and asking for something that could help him in battle. Despite how much she tried to stop herself, she couldn't help but smile gently at Hyousuke and Haru's conversation like a proud mom.
"I gotcha kid, I could make it all from scratch since that would be easier. The stuff you're seeing here now is some orders that nobody wanted since 'it didn't fit their style' even though it's exactly what they asked for...." Haru nearly growled quietly as he said that. If there was one thing that the man despised, it was people who ask for things and then not want them even though it's exactly what they asked for.
"Well, not everyone is as good as customer as I am, Haru-kun." Tsubame grinned at Haru. He didn't even look at her, just settled his eyes on Hyousuke still. All professional mech maker right there. Tsubame just silently watched once more as her student talked about how his quirk could help power it. She was so proud! Her student accepted help from someone and was working towards using his quirk as well with support gear. Would it be unprofessional of me to treat him to ice cream? Is that even allowed?
"So you're able to power things, eh? That's helpful for plenty of things. Eco friendly' for support gear. However, I would have to tune it directly to your body like I had to with Tsubame and her quirk. While her quirk doesn't supply power, I still had to tune it to her vitals. This might take a bit of time, but I can make you something that would be helpful for you. There is also something that I ask the heroes that walk through my doors that I don't already know..." Haru stood up fully, despite for a shut in who's main exercise is to get more supplies from the nearest supplier and junk yard, he was actually pretty sturdy with muscles. With his grumpy attitude, he intimidated most people.
Tsubame knew the question and stopped Haru with a shake of her head. He looked at her confused, but ultimately let Tsubame have her way since he trusted her to have her reasons. Tsubame had already asked Hyousuke the question at least twice now in some form or another. 'What type of hero do you wish to be?' and so far nothing as come of it. The Vice Headmaster had come so far with Hyousuke already in such a short time, she didn't want to keep repeating herself and drive him off. "Alrighty, I guess your Vice Headmaster has her reasons for not having me ask. Well, if you both are done, i'm in need of a nap. So if you don't mind....get out."
Tsubame sighed and rolled her eyes as she started to usher Hyousuke through the front shop door. "Yeah yeah, see you next time, Haru-kun." And with that, the door would be shut behind them with a hard latch sound as it locked. "Well, that was Haru-kun. If anyone can make you a support gear that's made for your quirk, it's him." Absently her hand went to the choker around her neck, still glowing a bright green color within the clear jewel next to the silver computer disk. "Shall we move on to the next shop?"

WORD COUNT 463
| Hyousuke braced himself for an answer. It was the first time he'd requested anything but his costume, and he hadn't any idea what kind of reaction his questions would get. It wasn't quite fear that gripped him, but apprehension was certainly welling up inside him. His heart began to pound in his chest, and his fists trembled while they clenched, fingers digging so deep into his palms that it was as though he was trying to draw blood from them. He was headstrong and fearless to the point of recklessness - but in that moment, on that spot, he struggled to keep his composure.
Mere moments from calling it off and leaving the shop so that he could catch his breath, Haru offered his response. And, to his surprise, it was far more subdued than he thought. There weren't probing questions or judgement from Haru - indeed, he seemed more interested in just moving forward and developing it, more than anything else. Of course, it would take more than just that to reverse his prejudice, but something the depths of his soul stirred. Something like a faint light, glinting in the depths of the darker parts of his mind.
Hyousuke seemed to visibly relax at Haru's acceptance, though a slight amount of tension returned to him when he heard that a question was to be asked of him - and a little more at seeing just how much larger Haru was than he thought. Normally, someone like him wouldn't have intimidated Hyousuke. He'd made a habit of facing down people tougher than him without reacting much at just the sight of them, but left vulnerable by having to ask for assistance, he found it difficult to keep full control over his emotions and how they showed themselves.
It didn't help that the vice principal had him refrain from asking it. After that, he was just curious what it was that he was being spared from answering, and instead of worrying about giving an answer, he was just thinking about the question itself. Before he could ask for clarification, however, he turned to see Tsubame leave, and followed suit. Before he left, however, Hyousuke nodded, too shaken to offer much else, and muttered - as loud as he dared to manage - "Thanks."
Once out of the shop, Hyousuke exhaled quietly, pausing a moment before jogging forward a step or two to catch up with her. His eyes were led to the choker, wondering what it was for, but he was quickly distracted from it by her other question. "Uh, right, yeah. Sure, let's go." Disoriented by the whole experience, he found it hard to offer as calm and confident a response as he usually would. And yet, despite the addled state of his mind, he felt strangely proud. |

Tsubame was almost buzzing with her excitement over what just happened. Hyousuke just accepted help from someone and it was with support gear as well. She supposed that Haru was a bit easier to deal with than most people since he didn't put on a false mask for people. What you saw was what you got with him. Tsubame liked people like that; those that were truthful to how they really were instead of hiding. In her youth she tried to hide herself away for the sake of being left alone, but things happened and now she has more friends than she can handle. It was something she wouldn't trade for anything, though. Everyone she met has had an impact on her life so far. Turning back to Hyousuke, she had a grin on her face like a proud mom who just watched their kid perform in a school recital. Tsubame loved all of her students that she pretty much thought of as her kids. Today was turning out well. She was glad that she had brought Hyousuke along with her so that she could get him to open up a bit more. In some ways she succeeded. Granted, she still wanted to ask him about his injuries currently, but that would be for another time since she didn't want him to withdraw once again.
Silently Tsubame turned back to Hyousuke with a soft grin on her face. Less excited and more proud. "Suzuki, i'm glad I brought you along with me. You did good today." It wasn't meant to be condescending. She reached up to put a hand on his shoulder and pat it in a 'good job' gesture. She went back to walking down the street with him. "I hope that Haru-kun and you can become friends. He may be grumpy, but deep down he's a nice guy."
Tsubame smiled at the sky, today was turning out to be a wonderful day. Silently she hoped to give Hyousuke a gift the next time she trained with him.
-end for Tsubame-
