Some of the people managed to get out of her way. Those that didn’t, Sigga expertly weaved around as she bolted down the street. You’d be forgiven for thinking she was being chased. That was the reason she was running though; to evade pursuers. She didn’t do anything though. Honest! She. Didn’t. Do. Anything!
Her heart hammered inside her chest as the teenager continued to run, occasionally making a sharp turn down some other unknown boulevard. She didn’t dare look behind her, knowing that any distraction could have her accidentally trip and eat pavement. However, her untrained body eventually began to rebel against the girl’s insistence on running. Despite her desire to keep going she began to slow down.
A small park in the middle of Musutafu came into view. It barely occupied the space of a single building, consisting of little more than a few park benches and a large water-fountain in the center. The teenager shambled towards one of the empty benches and collapsed on it. This is where she would die. Though… nobody was chasing her. That was the truth.
Not five minutes earlier, Sigga had been casually exploring the downtown of the city she’d be calling her home for the foreseeable future. Her actual home was back on Hokkaido, but Musutafu was where her new school was located. At some point during her exploring she had stopped at a gift shop, eager to peruse the various knickknacks it had on display outside the store. Various keychains, postcards, and other items were carefully laid out on various tables and racks. Casually taking a sip of water from her water bottle, she had just spotted an adorable looking keychain with a fish on it when someone presumed to be the store’s proprietor had rushed out the front door, pointed at the bald academy student and exclaimed, “Hey! You!” The tone accompanying the words made it clear the man wasn’t about to start making some sort of sales pitch. The inflection in the voice suggested he was angry and that Sigga had for one reason or another been made the target of this hostility.
The girl had no intention of finding out the reason for this hostility, however. She was one-hundred percent innocent of whatever accusation was going to be leveled her way, but that didn’t mean she’d stick around to hash things out. She was technically on parole and there was no way in hell she’d risk her freedom over some sort of mysterious misunderstanding. So she dropped the fish keychain and she ran; ran like a bat out of hell.
Sigga was sprawled across the park bench on her back, one foot bent at the knee with her shoe on the seat while the other was dangling off to the side. You could clearly see her chest rise and fall with each breath as she lay there exhausted from her run. She draped a hand over her chest to get an idea of how fast her heart was beating in an effort to get it to relax now that the muscles in her legs no longer needed such a high intake of oxygen. Unfortunately this casual motion had the opposite effect of calming her down.
The girl immediately sat up straight, looking at her wrist in sudden alarm. A small pink wrist-strap was visible where the sleeve of her black jacket ended. It looked like the end of it was meant to be attached to something that was no longer there.
Sigga let out an angry expletive. Her pink water bottle was gone. Normally that wouldn’t have been such a big deal to the girl. She owned tons of water bottles. Probably more than any other person she had ever met. But this particular water bottle was special; it was important to her. It had been a recent gift from her grandfather, complete with a custom Japanese stencil on the side, an inside joke between the two of them. And now it was gone, having broken off from her wrist strap at some point when she had ran. The teenager’s former panic began to slowly convert into fury.

Asahi was great at blending into the background. And moving in such a way as to be practically invisible. As a resident of the streets, that was essential for survival. He had found a cute, rainbow colored heart keychain that he was going to give to Kyou. Unfortunately for the person that the petty thief sort of framed, not only did she ran out like a bat out of hell, but she also lost a cute water bottle that was on her wrist. Sighing heavily, he stealthily picked it up and stayed out of the shop owner's sight, slipping out without much notice. The violet haired boy looked homeless, in his ragged jacket, fingerless gloves, dirty pants and shoes, he looked the part. The poor boy also had a patch on his cheek. More for looks than any injury there. He also wore a teal tie that seemed unnaturally out of place, while the shirt he wore was old, but at least wasn't dirty or ragged.
He went approximately in the same direction as the bald headed lady. A water bottle like that wasn't going to fetch a price, and no one in their group was going to want it. Might as well give it back then. It took a bit of retracing steps, and even some asking around. Luckily, she was easy to remember based on her appearance. Even in today's world, that kind of look was not one that people did not forget.
When the five foot six, scrawny teenager found her in the park, she looked furious. Asahi started to walk towards her, and tossed her water bottle right at her lap with a small under hand fling. And then he just kept on walking like it was the most natural thing to do. Hopefully that would cool her off.

It had been such a stupid blunder to make, losing something of hers while making a getaway. If her siblings got word of what transpired Sigga would be absolutely mortified. Her (now former) family of grifters and thieves would have alternated between berating and mocking the silly girl. And rightly so, in her mind. Coupled with the item’s sentimental value, that fact brought the normally calculating-girl’s blood to a boil. Her expression of furious consternation wasn’t given opportunity to simmer for long however.
Not particularly alert to her surrounding or those that occupied them, the girl barely managed to notice the subject of her anger suddenly land in her lap as if delivered by some unseen champion of light. Sigga managed to snap the item up before it rolled onto the brick walkway, amber eyes now identifying the water bottle as the very one she had only just lost. Any feelings of mounting rage had evaporated; gone as if devoured by some eldritch monstrosity from beyond space and time.
Elated and confused, the piscine girl spun her head in an effort to identify the hero. The trajectory of the bottle her mind managed to trace back from what her peripheral vision caught suggested the mostly plausible candidate was currently walking at a brisk pace away from her. “Auh.” Her mouth managed some sort of useless, barely audible sound as her jaw hung slack like the foolish girl it belonged to.
For a few precious moments the girl didn’t know how to react. Then she suddenly stood up, her mind not quite catching up to her body’s automatic movement.
When the mushy matter hidden in her skull began to finally work properly her target was almost out of sight. You would think this would be the end of their interaction, but something spurred the teenager forward. She wasn’t quite certain why she began tailing this rather disheveled figure. Perhaps some of the instincts from her pre-UA life were egging her on, or she simply wanted to thank the person properly. Or to mug them. There were a lot of options…
Still wearing the same outfit from when she moved into the dorms this morning, Sigga followed the figure at a distance.

Asahi immediately felt eyes on him. But hopefully that would be all there was to it...the boy wasn't very social, more due to the fact that his vocal cords were damaged and made him sound like he'd been screaming for months on end. So he just kept on going, not even caring if he got a simple thank you or anything. Alas, as he was walking out of the park, he noticed through a reflection that she was following him. For what reason was beyond him.
But she also kept a pretty decent distance from him. That part was unusual...it was far even for a dedicated pursuer. Nonetheless, compared to others that had chased him recently, she was easy to spot...where the others had at least some amount of experience or even professionalism. Unlike most, he didn't let on that he knew she was following him. Instead, he just continued to walk as if nothing was wrong.
The homeless looking boy walked for several blocks, even turned a few times as if he was heading somewhere specific. As they were separated by a crosswalk, he did turn around, just to let her know that he knew she as following him. And stared right at her. Then darted away, but only a short distance since there was an alleyway nearby. And he turned to the right to enter it. At about the middle of the stretch was a fire escape and a light. And he flung the carbon binding cloth wrapped underneath his shirt up towards the light, and flung himself up. Though not all the way, just enough so if she turned and stared down, she was unlikely to see him.
If she kept walking, he would lower himself, and drop down behind her with narrowed eyes. While it would be quiet, it would still be loud enough for the girl to hear it, and likely cause her to turn around to see the bandage looking cloth around him. Asahi would just stare at her with narrowed eyes, hoping she would say why she followed him in the first place.

The UA student’s hand gripped the water bottle tightly. It would have been too much of a distraction to attempt to fasten it back to her wrist strap now. She didn’t even know if it could be reattached as she had yet to inspect the thing for damage. Her amber eyes were far too busy tracking her target to check.
As the cat and mouse continued to make their way through the city, Sigga pondered how she’d be able to find her way back. At least at this point any concern she had of getting lost in this new city couldn’t really be exacerbated. She had been one-hundred-and-ten percent lost by the time she had first reached the park and taking several more lefts and rights couldn’t really make things any worse.
She continued her questionable pursuit, feeling quite certain she had remained undetected while also feeling uncertain about any endgame plans. What was her goal? Entertainment? It did make for an interesting diversion from her earlier misfortunes.
Suddenly Sigga’s target made an about-face and stared directly at her. How- When? She barely had the time to mentally process getting spotted, when her target bolted. The bald girl instinctively reacted to her fleeing mark by mimicking his sudden speed and accelerating her pursuit. She dashed across the street that had been separating them and was almost immediately hit by a car. The driver blared his horn, but Sigga barely slowed down and even managed to flip the driver off with her free hand as she continued to run.
Abruptly jaywalking had not been the smartest move, but that was a mistake to review later. The girl made it to the entrance of the alley, stopping just around the edge from it. She carefully peeked around the corner, warry of any potential attack or ambush. Her eyes scanned but found no traces of the young man. Did he manage to get away?
Sigga entered the alley cautiously, looking left and right around every bit of trash and debris littering the pavement. She squinted, looking further ahead past the dim light hanging overhead. In the distance she could see a door in the side of one of the walls that framed the alleyway. Could he have-?
Her hikers splashed across a puddle as she ran forward towards the door. She noticed it didn’t have a handle, likely meant as an exit-only. Before she got very far, the sound of shoes on pavement behind her caused the girl to spin in place and brace for the inevitable surprise tackle. But no attack was made.
The improvised combat stance she was in relaxed a little when she identified who had materialized behind her. Sigga’s senses were still very much on alert but it looked as if the boy wasn’t about to make any moves, simply staring at her with calculating apathy. When it became clear he wasn’t about to rush her or even bother to speak, the UA student concluded the ball was now in her court.
“Uh…” She began, trying to size up exactly who she had been following. He looked a little ragged in his worn-out clothing and patched up cheek, like some sort of guttersnipe. The contrast between his clothing and hers was rather stark. Though her grey shirt did have plenty of tears in it, both it, her black jacket, and blue jeans were brand new. Her shirt’s holes were a fashion statement rather than some sort of battle scars however. She wasn’t about to lower her guard, though, just because he looked homeless. The boy could easily have lead her into some sort of trap, with others waiting in ambush in the alley.
“Did- did you return this to me?” Sigga finally ask, gesturing with the water bottle still held tightly in her hand. Her eyes seemed to glow in the dimly lit alleyway, though they never moved away from who she was speaking to lest the cat and mouse roles were suddenly reversed.

She was thorough in trying to see where he went...but never looked up. If more people looked up, his job and likely many other's, including Wisp's, would be a lot harder. Still, he was mildly impressed that she didn't let down her guard for a second. Though he could probably skewer her without much issue...she looked like she would be more at home in the water than anything. Still, she relaxed a little when it became apparent that he wasn't going to attack her let alone speak. She did seem extremely nervous. That was usually a response that he got when he really got his bloodlust going. But she hadn't done anything to get him to go full intimidation mode on her.
Asahi nodded at her question and took out his smartphone...a present from his beloved Kyou-chan, and started typing. When he should her the message, it would read: "Sorry, I don't like to speak. Why are you following me? Just to say thanks? Awfully weird way of going about it, keeping such a large distance and not even trying to blend into the crowd..."
He wasn't going to mention the whole mild framing part unless she really did just wanted to thank him. Though that could get a little hairy...but could also be fun and funny to see what her reaction would be. Perhaps Kyou was rubbing off a little bit on him...in more ways than one. Still, kind of odd that a fashionable girl like this would even attempt this kind of thing...it would be more likely to him that she would berate him than anything.

Her question had been answered promptly, with a nod though rather than with words. Sigga’s spine stiffened when he began interacting with his phone. But once he flipped it to show the girl its contents, she relaxed a little. It didn’t seem he was calling for backup, simply choosing to use it as a tool for communication with her. Probably not a far fetched use for a phone, though most people that typed a message on them did so to transmit data at some distance rather than show someone next to them what they had just typed.
The words displayed on the phone half-answered what would have been the girl’s next question. Not wanting to speak could have been reason enough to not stick around after returning her bottle, though she wasn’t sure that was the entire story. You didn’t have to speak to be thanked after all.
The state of their current interaction did help her conclude why she had pursued him, though. Knowing what she knew now, a thank you was in order. “Uh… yeah.” Sigga replied to the question worded on his phone. “I just thought it was weird, you just tossing it and leaving like that.” She didn’t quite mean to throw the word weird right back at him like that, though she did think it strange. But that was where her line of thinking on that topic ended.
There weren’t many other hypotheses she’d form other than about why the street urchin didn’t like to speak. Whenever the girl met a new face, she couldn’t help but wonder what that individual’s quirk was. Maybe he didn’t like speaking because his quirk was activated by his voice, possibly having the ability to put listeners to sleep like some sort of vagabond-Jigglypuff. Alternatively, maybe he could turn his physical form into water and had done so to become the puddle she had walked through when entering the alley. That would account for him managing to materialize behind her like that, but ah… no. The puddle was still there…
“So, uh, thank you.” Sigga’s eyes darted briefly to the side as she said the words. Why was she suddenly being so bashful? Had the situation gotten that awkward? It was quite unlike her to be so timid, especially after that rather assertive chase, and she suspected that being in an unfamiliar environment had something to do with it.
She certainly wasn’t about to let the status quo stay as it was however, quickly pivoting the conversation. Her free hand dug into her front pocket before pulling out a small strip of paper; a two-for-one coupon to the internationally common fast food joint, McDonalds. “I’ll treat you to some fries.” You couldn’t tell it was a question from her tone, but the fact she didn’t move and was simply staring expectantly at her conversational counterpart suggested she was waiting for a response.
The offer for free food as a reward wasn’t born of any conclusion Sigga came to from seeing the way the boy was dressed. She knew from plenty of experience that looking like a homeless person didn’t mean you were one. The manner in which one dressed was an easily weaponized piece of social camouflage that she had utilized herself on occasion. Regardless of how one dressed people still ate food and French fries were well within her budget, especially if she also got some for herself.
Sigga wasn’t exactly expecting the boy to take her up on the offer, though she wasn’t assuming he’d decline it either. He seemed contradictorily skittish and confident so the bald girl wasn’t going to bother predicting a specific response, but any kind of response would undoubtedly tell her something about the stranger.

Was it really that odd? Shrugging, he let her continue, but also saw her confusion as to why he wouldn't speak...instead of looking like she was going to question the bandages that looked like they were coming from underneath his shirt. Was she really that scatter brained? Sighing heavily, he loosened his tie just enough for him to lift his head and show her the scar that went around his throat and across where his vocal cords were. Hopefully that alone would explain why he was going to use his phone. Though he did tilt his head weirdly at the offer. Typing on his phone, he showed it to her, and braced for the worst. "You sure about that? Technically, I did frame you a little. Figured the least I could do to make up for it was return your item." Hopefully, she wouldn't react too badly. Well, even if she did, he could always skewer her and leave her to die.
Still, the ball was in her court again. Hopefully the fact that he got her back her water bottle would mollify her a little. And prevent a fight that he mostly likely could not lose...because she was a fish out of water. And she appeared to not have anything to really defend herself with, though that didn't mean much, after all, his carbon binding cloth was often hidden underneath his own clothes, for the exception of his tie. And there was little that he couldn't pierce with his quirk.

Although she had considered some of his behavior a little strange, Sigga had made it a point not to pry on why the boy chose not to talk or why half his outfit seemed to consist of bandages. She knew better than anyone about not wanting to share anything personal with someone not considered a close friend. It was a little surprising then when the stranger chose to loosen his tacky tie and reveal the scar behind it. Though she didn’t react visibly, her inner mind couldn’t help but recoil at the sight. While she was no stranger to physical abuse in her early life, as far as she was aware nobody had tried to kill her. It could be considered supposition, but she doubted he got his scar from fuckin’ finger painting.
Though him typing on his phone was never a point of contention between them, seeing the reason behind it had completely disarmed Sigga. She may not have known what had made the scar on the boy’s neck or the history behind it, but her imagination was more than capable of going down the darkest avenues of possibility. When she had lived among her seven foster-siblings, any sign of violence directed towards them could not help but awaken a sort of maternal instinct within her.
Already taken aback by the little show and tell it was impressive to witness the UA student once again looking disarmed, if such a thing were even possible, after she processed the new string of text shown to her. At first the words didn’t make sense to Sigga. Then it clicked. He had been responsible for whatever had occurred back at the gift shop. Her bottle must have detached from the strap the moment she had bolted from the premises, easy to scoop up by anyone who happened to witness the affair. “Huh.” was all that the dumb student said.
A person would be hard pressed to pick a better reason to give to the girl if they were intent on trying to convince her to neuter someone with a swift kick to the- well… it didn’t actually matter even if the girl had been the type to escalate a situation out of anger, which she certainly wasn’t.
Feeling a little more like a prank had been pulled on her by a sibling, even one that could have gotten her arrested, she didn’t feel a shred of hostility towards the boy. Sigga dismissed the confusion she felt at the state of her own psyche. Maybe she was just really hungry for fries but didn’t want to spend all day eating them by herself. Yes. That was it, her mind convincingly lied to itself. The girl proceeded to wave the coupon in her hand after a bit of hesitation. “Mmm… the offer stands.”
“You in?” This time her eyes didn’t look away from his.

Her reaction...did not meet his expectations one bit. Actually, it was pretty much the opposite of what just about everyone else would have reacted. And unlike most, didn't give him a look of pity or anything...just stared directly in his eyes. Blinking, he typed up a message and showed it to her. "Yeah. Asahi Arashi. You?" He introduced himself to her and asked for her own name. She was already making a bit of an impression on him. Besides, free french fries were free french fries.
After re-wrapping his bandages looking carbon binding cloth, he followed her this time. In silence. Unless she wanted to talk about something. Either way, he'd be a good little puppy and follow her to wherever the place was. And take a seat. Upon her sitting back down with their order, he snatched up his end of the french fries and started chewing slowly, but happily. He also typed a little question on his phone while doing so, though it was flat on the table for anyone to see. But there was also no one near them, at this time of day there were plenty of seats and not a lot of people. "You're not gonna ask about what I took from that shop?" She already defied expectations. If she was curious, he'd show her a cute purple and red kitten key-chain, with a heart between the kittens. It was cutesy, but matched his appearance to an extent. Typing again, he would further explain, even if she wasn't curious about why he chose that specific key-chain. "Thought it was cute and resembled me and my boyfriend. He has red hair." And his own was blue-violet, more violet than blue.

His given name and surname would have been anagrams for each other if not for that R sneaking in there, at least if they had been written using the English alphabet instead of kanji. “Sigrid Tendō.” She replied back to him, wondering if there would ever be a situation in which he’d get to use her name since he didn’t talk.
Her free hand had already withdrawn her phone from her pocket and was busily tapping away in an effort to locate the nearest McDonalds. In any other circumstance Sigga would have asked the other party to lead the way, but with the delay in communication between them it made sense for her to simply find their destination herself in case he didn’t know where to go. She also really wanted to identify her current location after having gotten so thoroughly lost from all that meandering.
Sigga’s feet took her back out of the alley as her eyes scanned her phone. There was a street whose name she recognized, only several blocks away. That was good. The city was still almost a complete unknown to her. In time she’d get very familiar with it, seeing as she’d be spending the next few years living in Musutafu.
In a few short moments the girl managed to locate multiple McDonalds on her phone within walking distance. Picking a target for them, she glanced over to see Asahi waiting attentively for her to lead the way. So lead she did.
The walk was brief and done in complete silence. In a few short minutes they had reached their destination, Sigga pulling open the door and entering the establishment with the mute in tow. The fast-food restaurant wasn’t crowded fortunately. It didn’t take long for them to get their order, grab some condiments, and find a table to sit at.
The UA student immediately grabbed a few fries and stabbed them in some ketchup. Maybe it was all the running she did earlier, but her stomach was very close to making audible protests for some nourishment. In another moment her mouth was full, munching away at the savory taste of salt and vinegar.
She chose to devour some more fries first before she’d pose any questions, though Asahi seemed to take note of the silence and was already tapping away at his phone. “Oh, I was.” The human fish said between mouthfuls. “-after I had asked you did you take something.” The boy had been particularly good at answering her unasked questions. She couldn’t help but wonder if he could read minds too.
That was an avenue of thought her mind always seemed to go down on account of thought-reading being a very real option in her life. Sometimes it made her forget how good attentive humans were at picking up the subtle, nuance mannerisms one displayed at any given point. People were pretty expressive with their actions even if they didn’t know it themselves, and Sigga was unlikely to be the exception to this rule.
Her hand gestured expectantly and the boy revealed his prize. A pair of adorable felines holding a heart between them certainly hadn’t been what she was expecting. He had quickly noticed the girl’s surprise and was quick to clarify why this item was the one he chose to purloin. “That um…” A few more fries entered her mouth. “‘S cute.” She remarked, holding a hand over her mouth so he wouldn’t witness her jaws full of food as she spoke.
Sigga was about give a well-intentioned admonishment of some of the trust he was placing in a complete stranger, followed by at least several questions, when something caught her eye. The girl’s face scrunched up as she tried to focus on, not the boy in front of her, but something further behind him. She was giving a very strange sort of look in the direction of the illuminated menu behind the cashier’s counter.

Sigrid Tendo huh? Interesting name for an interesting looking woman. She seemed a little surprised at his ability to predict what she would ask. Though, really, it shouldn't have been too surprising. Those were all questions a typical person would ask. So he had a slight suspicion that maybe she wasn't a typical person. Possibly one that lived on the streets at one point? She also seemed surprised at what he took. But didn't say much aside that it was cute. Then something must have caught her interest on the menu. Not that he would pay much attention to it.
Still, her behavior didn't exactly match a completely innocent person. Perhaps that was why he gave her as much trust as he did. Typing away, he kept an open ear for her. "Before you start on any rant for the amount of trust I've given you...look at your own behavior. It's far from ordinary. Makes me suspect you have a bit of a shady past yourself. Aside from that, your questions have been fairly predictable." He was no expert on human behavior. But his time on the streets did give him a good amount of insight. Hopefully he can extract what kind of past she had. And if he was right, find out what kind of quirk she had, then go from there. After all, they were recruiting. Kyou had given him some general guidelines on what he was looking for, though generally anyone that was going to be useful was a candidate. And he did have one person on his list so far, but he still needed to observe him a bit more before making any moves to try to recruit him.

Her attention was diverted back down to Asahi’s phone, distracted away from her distraction for the moment. “Hey!” Sigga began in very obvious mock offense. “I don’t rant.” He was right on the money, though. Her expression quickly changed away from playful back to one of bemused focus as her eyes zeroed in on something past him. “Umm…” The student began, slowly pulling herself out of her seat. There was clear hesitation in her voice as if the girl was unable to come to a conclusion of some sort. As if the words were trying to get through a volume of molasses, the girl announced her intent through a twisted grin. “I’ll… be right… back…”
Like a thing possessed, the teenager hovered past Asahi and towards the counter. The cashier greeted the returnee, who seemed far more entranced by the menu than the human waiting on her order. “Um, uh… could I get a… um, a otona no cream pie?” She could barely keep a straight face when placing the order. Clearly there was something the girl found wildly hysterical, but she staunchly refused to allow a smile to fully form across her face. Because if she smiled, then she would start giggling, and if she started giggling, she wouldn’t stop until the nice people in white jackets came to haul her away.
Then the cashier asked what flavor she’d like her otona no cream pie in and the girl lost it.
There weren’t that many people in the McDonalds, but the few that were couldn’t help but turn in the direction of the fishy girl now laughing uncontrollably. It was infectious too. You could hear one of the food preppers in the back snort, and a few of the patrons beginning to giggle quietly. In order to actually be in on the joke you’d have to be bilingual and know another language such as English to really understand what was going on. The item Sigga was attempting to order had an entirely different meaning in English, the nuance of the word otona being completely lost in translation.

So, she at least had some humor, mocking offense. Smirking, he rose an eye brow as if to say "oh really." Still, she left briefly. And ordered something else. Otona no cream pie. Then...she just...started laughing. Hysterically so. Raising an eyebrow, others started to snort in amusement or giggle quietly. He was utterly confused. What was so funny? What was going on? Maybe he should ask Kyou-chan about it. Upon her return, he continued to give her a confused look. Then looked at her snack. It looked good. But he still had some fries. Which was definitely best fresh.
Picking up his phone, he actually texted his boyfriend. Who apparently had nothing else to do. Or was just doing some boring mundane thing that he decided to take a short amount of time out of his busy schedule to educate him. Blinking at the answer...his face lit up redder than a tomato. He'd tell Kyou-chan why he wanted to know later. And glared at the fishy lady with a risen eyebrow, as if to say "how immature are you?" Though considering how red his face was, maybe he couldn't say too much. Texting a quick later, he put down his phone and finished his fries as he looked at the lost in translation pie. He looked at her, then back at it. Then at her again. Then it again. Hoping to get his point across, he did it again a few more times. He wanted to give it a try. Though not because of its name.

It was the standoff of the ages. Decades from now people would write tales and sing songs of a time when a single McDonald’s employee managed to decipher the order of a customer through her mixture of hissing laughter and recuperative wheezing. The person behind the register looked positively bemused, yet their dedication to understand which flavor Sigga wanted was exemplary. Though, it may have helped that the girl threw in some hand gestures in an attempt to clarify her selection.
The teenager eventually managed to return to her seat. With her she brought her baked confectionery, as well as a pile of napkins far larger than anyone had any business of asking for. Maybe she was simply the type of person that liked to be prepared. Or, more likely, the pile of napkins were the girl’s wasteful way of adding punctuation to what she clearly found to be the funniest prank anyone had ever pulled off in the history of everything.
Sigga didn’t seem to react to the look Asahi was giving her. Indeed, it was likely due to the fact her eyes were still filled with water and she couldn’t see him that well. The tears of laughter that had been wiped away previously had reinforcements brought in after them. The sides of the girl’s face shone with the hastily smeared droplets. At least she was no longer laughing uncontrollably, though her eyes were still doing plenty of that on her behalf.
Most of the other patrons had gone back to their own lunches, though a few sparse chuckles could be heard every now and then. The UA student, still grinning, snapped up one of the napkins and proceeded to do a more thorough job of wiping away the excess liquid streaming from her peepers. She let out an audible sigh as she did so, scrunching up the napkin into a ball and dropping it onto her tray. Now the girl could finally see again. When she looked at her companion, curious what he had made of the scene she had unintentionally created, his beat-red face coupled with adjudicating eyes forced the girl to use what little strength she had left to stop herself from bursting out laughing again. At least this time she managed to remain composed, though she had to mush a fist over her mouth for a few moments to do so.
Her own face was a rather similar color to his, muscles taught in that stupid grin that was going to stay as her expression for the rest of her life now. She didn’t begin eating again right away, finding that catching her breath was something that had to come first. All that laughing was somehow infinitely more exhausting than when she had been running from any would-be pursuers earlier. What. A. Day.
As the next order of business was approaching, she noticed the rather hungry look the boy across from her was giving her pie. The grin she had been wearing went from amused to conniving. What was she plotting?
Sigga’s hand reached over and set aside the pile of napkin, revealing under them… a second pie! Had she read his thoughts before they had formed? Maybe she was just feeling super generous today.
A finger shot up in the air indicating that the boy not get ahead of himself. Wait, was she actually going to eat both pies by herself? Surely she wasn’t that big of a glutton. Sigga rotated the two pies sideways, each still within its cardboard shell. She didn’t bother explaining what she was doing, though it soon became clear. As she picked up each box-o-pie, she broke it in half along the perforated line dividing the container in two. Only, she didn’t stop at the box, instead opting to continue her division right through the pastry itself. The two pies she had ordered were of two different flavors, one in Belgian Chocola, the other in Sweet Fromage!
Wordlessly Sigga passed two halves, one of each flavor, to Asahi. She had intended to try out both of the available flavors all along, a fact of the situation that had contributed to the length of time it took her to make her order back when she was still caught in that hysterical droll.
Finally she snapped up one of her own halves, the Sweet Fromage one, and bit into it.
