| As appealing as the food in the cafeteria was, Hyousuke couldn't stand being around so many people. Not when he had so much to think about. Though the pain of the humiliation at the Sports Festival still lingered, it'd dulled somewhat, giving way to something else - conflict. More specifically, conflict in his ideology. As he sat at the stairwell, chewing morosely on a sandwich he was too deep in his thoughts to even taste properly, Kyou's words echoed about in his head, their sentiment giving him much to reflect on.
All his life, he'd been working to prove himself. He'd refused help unless absolutely necessary, shunning the idea of using anything more than a costume when it came to support gear. How could he reliably say that it was his strength that made him a hero if he was using someone else's technology as a crutch? How much of his success would he be able to attribute to the countless hours of shedding blood, sweat, and tears, and how much would have to go to whatever weapons and armour he took into a fight with him?
He leaned back, wondering how he was going to figure it all out. Much as he hated to admit it, Kyou wasn't wrong - without using any gear to bolster his powers, he wasn't even close to reaching his full potential. But he'd been fighting for the same reasons for years - he couldn't just give up on them at the drop of a hat. |

Daichi had quickly gotten his food and moved away from the cafeteria. He always attracted attention, due to his girly looks...he's been more than once mistaken for a girl. The short, blue haired boy made his way to a usually abandoned stairway, his three metal arms at his back was holding onto his backpack, a suitcase, and a toolbox. The suitcase had a few of his gadgets that he was working on that were neutral, didn't need any quirk to power them nor had anything to do with a quirk directly. After lunch, he was heading towards the workshop to finish up on a few things. He may not have done well at the Sports Festival, but he didn't expect to...he didn't have the courage or heart to do that. But maybe his gadgets can help a hero turn the tide.
He nearly ran over a guy that was sitting at his normal spot. It startled him so much that he had to step back and made him stutter. It took a moment for him to compose himself. "H-hi! Um...is it alright if I sit in this area too? I like some peace and quiet..." Plus it allowed him to avoid trouble and not have to call Jun Tomoshibi to bail him out. Or use his bloodlust and his intimidation. Hopefully the guy wouldn't mind him eating his liver italiano. The guy didn't seem like he'd want anyone to really talk to him. Though upon closer inspection, Daichi realized that this was Hyousuke Suzuki. A guy that made it to the tournament using sheer grit and clawing to the opportunity. Probably the weakest that made it to the tournament without any kind of utility in his quirk. But well, he'd wait and see if he wanted some quiet company.

WORD COUNT 207
| Hyousuke about dropped his sandwich at the sudden appearance of someone he didn't recognise. Fortunately, he managed to keep a hold of his lunch, even if a few crumbs shook loose of the thing in the split second before he managed to gather himself. He glanced towards the stranger, examining them, mulling the question over while he rushed to chew and swallow what little of the bite he had in his mouth, before answering curtly. "Sure, go for it." He said, turning back to his lunch. He chewed morosely - evidently he wasn't in the best of moods, but was at least willing to tolerate someone else's presence.
He shuffled to the side a bit, making sure that there was room for Daichi to take a seat. He didn't especially want company, but even with the generator beating in his chest, he hadn't the energy to try and dissuade him. He just hoped that Daichi wouldn't mind it if he wasn't feeling especially sociable. The most he could manage was glancing expectantly at him, waiting for him to make a decision on whether or not he was going to take a seat. He remained silent, but his looking between the boy and the empty space probably said enough. |

Daichi sat down and starting eating his liver Italiano. He immediately noticed that the boy didn't want to talk much. Surely the display at the tournament didn't effect him that much? "You were really cool at the Sports Festival. I got eliminated in the first round pretty quickly. I definitely prefer being an inventor than an actual hero, even if my quirk wouldn't be bad for it..." After setting the rest of his stuff behind him, the end of the metal arm changed into a hammer, then to a small blade, then to a screwdriver, then back the stiff three fingered "hand" that it was before. "So...why didn't apply for something powered by your quirk? Out of the requests to the support department, I think you're the only one that just wanted a costume. Well, Daiki didn't have anything yet. But pretty much everyone else did. Ah, I'm rambling, you don't have to answer or anything...I'm Daichi Arashi, by the way." The small blue haired boy spazzed out slightly when he noticed he was asking something not exactly appropriate. And decided to introduce himself. He was a bit awkward...but his heart was in the right place.

Hyousuke flashed a smile at the compliment. Even if he didn't quite believe that he was anywhere near cool during the tournament - despite what others had professed - he appreciated the sentiment. It'd been long enough for him to get past the initial disbelief in anyone actually saying they thought he did well. Mow, rather than stubbornly maintaining that they were lying to let him save face, he simply thought that they were wrong instead, and silently doubted their decision-making ability. That question about his gear caught Hyousuke off-guard, however, and forced a pensive look onto his face - if only briefly.
"Uh, well, it's..." It's complicated, he wanted to say, but stopped himself. That reflexive answer wasn't going to get him anywhere. It'd just raise more questions than it answered. While he didn't know Daichi well enough to give the true answer, he didn't want to give some cryptic non-answer either. "It's nice to meet you." He said instead. Hopefully, it'd buy him enough moments to think of an answer without things starting to seem awkward. "And yeah, that was probably me. I just... thought that'd work best with my Quirk." He wasn't entirely lying. It was more that he'd not told Daichi what exactly his end goal actually was. "Though after what happened at the Festival..." Hyousuke made a face - even he couldn't hdie that pang of doubt, when he remembered how easily he'd been beaten by someone with a 'real' Quirk.

Daichi tilted his head cutely at the answers. But then he had an epiphany. It was a comment he'd heard when he mentioned his interest all too often. And it just wasn't true. "I see...you think any support equipment you have means you use it as a crutch. I've heard similar comments before when I told people of my interest. Aside from protective plates built into the costume, most heroes shed blood, sweat, and tears mastering their weapons and/or support equipment. Tomoshibi-kun spent a week learning to use his wrist mounted grappling hooks that I made. Wolf-kun utilizes a kendo sword...and is quite good at it. Imagine the amount of work he put in to use properly, even if he made one out of his ice. Then there's Kitty Suzuki-kun. I haven't seen him much, but I know he built a lot of his own stuff that he uses on his costume, and that takes a lot of work and patience. I wish I could take a look at his stuff, but never had the opportunity to ask. Keni-kun also uses a sword and bo staff...imagine the work he had to put in to use them right and fit them into using his wind-based quirk.
I'm sure there is a fine line to using it as a crutch. But that's not here. If you need help figuring out the right piece for you, whether it's just an added trick or something more substantial and powered by your quirk. From the looks of your quirk, it's a power generator. You can do so much with that. When you strengthen it, you strengthen everything else in some way or form. If you need some brainstorming or anything...feel free to come to me. I don't have the heart to be a hero...but if I can help a hero be the best that they can be..." It was a little bit of a lecture. And when he realized it, Daichi panicked. "S-sorry! I was lecturing you! I'm...not usually like that...I'm sorry Suzuki-kun...I didn't mean to pry or imply anything..." He would bow in apology and was very formal.

Hyousuke couldn't deny that Daichi was right. He wanted to, of course - every word sent his ideology crumbling down more and more, beyond even what Kyou had said to him. As far as Hyousuke could tell, Daichi didn't mean to cut to the bone like that, but even so, the lecture only forced a blanker and blanker look onto Hyousuke's face as he tried to process what was going on, and seeming to overload in the process. His mind was a maelstrom of thoughts and arguments, each clashing against each other and vying for dominance, while he simply sat there trying to make sense of it all.
Yet, even through the storm that plagued his head, Hyousuke started to see the truth of it all - or, at the very least, another aspect to his ideals. He wondered if perhaps he had the wrong of it - both Daichi and Kyou had emphatically argued against him, after all, and Hyousuke hadn't yet met someone that agreed with him outright. The details of it were lost on him, with his mind barely able to focus on Daichi, let alone introspection self-reflection, but the seeds of doubt had been sown. All that was left was to nurture them.
It took him a moment to gather himself enough to respond, and a further one to do more than simply wave his hands as if to try and dispel Daichi's nervousness. "N-no, no, it's fine." Hyousuke eventually managed to say, even if it didn't sound like he was particularly sure about it. "It's just- I'm just-" He paused, trying to collect his thoughts, and form something even vaguely coherent. It took him another long moment, but somehow, he managed to gather himself, and respond. "I've got a lot to think about. I, uh..."
Yet again, he paused, trying to come up with a way to follow up. His gaze moved to Daichi, and he forced his lips to curl into a weak smile. "I'll think about it." Unlike the many previous times he'd said that, however, he'd actually meant it.
