It reminded the girl of one of her past science classes where the topic of eusocial insects was covered. She remembered seeing images of fire ant colonies that had been cast with molten aluminum, uprooted, and photographed to display the incredible metal structure the hexapod engineers had once made their fortress. Only… the objects in front of her were far, far larger and with fewer and less erratic branches. There were still some jagged and uneven edges and the like, but it still seemed quite unlikely that the trees had been created by an army of bugs. For one, Sigga was not aware of any non-human species that had the required level of insight into metallurgy required for such a feat.
As she studied the peculiarities, unintentionally ignoring her beach-cleaning partner’s concerned remark, some movement out of the corner of her eye attempted to vie for the girl’s attention. She was a little more interested in the strange art pieces than the human-shaped windmill in her peripheral vision. Eventually, though, the secondary curiosity caused her to relent. Sigga’s head rotated slowly, eyes following shortly after, to face the tail end of some sort of miming act performed by the boy who had previously freed her from the appliance-bound prison.
While Sigga was unable to mentally parse the meaning of his gestures, remembering that the white-haired individual was present made way for the very plausible theory that he was responsible for the sculptures’ existence. At first she thought maybe her savior was trying to warn them about something, but after watching him stumble to the sand and consequently abandon his forlorn attempts at communicating, a wry grin crossed the finned girl’s face. She was quite confident her interpretation of his mannerisms drew her to an accurate conclusion. He was being bashful!
“Heh-hyue…” Her amber eyes were now focused squarely on the artist in the worn, grey hoodie. If he desired to draw the two girl’s attention away from the metal trees he could consider himself successful, at least when it came to Sigga. The girl didn’t seem particularly concerned about his overexertion or embarrassment, seeing as all she offered in return for his aid was a stupid grin. In any case, if there was cause for alarm, her peer would likely be the first to offer help. It wouldn’t be particularly surprising for her to see the other girl running in and trying to perform CPR on the boy or something.
She wondered if his lack of speech was on account of a heavily introverted personality and self-esteem issues. If that was the case, her staring at him with amused eyes probably did nothing to help. At least her attention on him allowed for his follow-up gestures to be properly conveyed. Sigga hustled over to the small, black rucksack he had pointed to and quickly brought it over, juuust in case if he happened to be hypoglycemic or something. She wasn’t completely heartless after all.

Airin's attention had been grasped by the exotic sculptures, however when the boy moved and then stumbled, Airin acted swiftly... Just not swift enough to catch him or otherwise arrest his fall. This did however leave her nearby, on scene and ready to assist. She knelt down, her eyes worried as they flicked over him searching for any obvious sign of trauma or harm. "Are you hurt?" She inquired. "Please let me help I can heal you." She could also use regular first aid and or call for an ambulance if required. There was only so much she knew how to do and she was not about to take any chances with another's life. Ego came in a poor second when compared to saving another's life. "Did you over reached your limit?" Airin inquired, it seemed like the most logical choice for his sudden collapse. Maybe he was trying to divert attention away from his art, but Airin doubted it. Though if he was, well he happened to be making an excellent job of it. One worthy of the greatest actors in Hollywood.
She glanced up at Sigga, seeing her friend standing nearby and suspecting her friend knew what Airin would do. Was she that easy to predict? But she did try to help everyone who was hurt, which generally happened a lot during hero training. Airin wanted to save everyone she could, even if it meant she bore the pain from their wounds. That was what being a hero was all about right?

Hiro found himself staring at the sand in an effort to fight off the light-headedness that was plaguing him, but as he tried to stay still he couldn't help but notice how ragged his breathing actually was. He'd only walked a couple steps, but his body felt like he might as well have just finished a marathon. Limbs that felt like they were full of lead, heavy breathing, muscle fatigue, dizziness... Hari had tried to explain it to him once, something about his body not being able to get enough oxygen? He didn't really get the science, he just knew that using his quirk too much made him feel like absolute crap.
When he looked up again, he was greeting by the sight of the fish girl looking at him with a... actually, he didn't quite know what kind of expression that was. This girl was an odd one, every interaction they'd had so far seemed to point that direction. He raised an eyebrow, but found any of the usual snark that he would have brought to the table dampened by the headache that was starting to take root. At the very least her friend was trying to be more helpful. He started to shake his head when she asked him if he was hurt again, but quickly regretted the gesture as it stirred up the headache more. Rubbing his temples with a silent curse, he responded to her next question with a sheepish grin and a shrug, preferring the motion since it moved his head around less. "Maybe a bit." He mouthed the words, though the rye humor was lost a bit without tone of voice to back it up.
When the odd girl brought his bag over, Hiro wasted no time in digging into the sack, tossing aside a few scraps of metal he'd collected earlier in the day before producing a water bottle and container of pills. There were plenty of drugs on the market specifically to combat quirk effects, especially since so many of things involved messing with the body's natural metabolism. In Hiro's case, that meant eating through his iron reserves at a greatly accelerated rate while he was using his abilities. Luckily, he'd managed to snag a bottle of extra-strength iron supplements from a pharmacy awhile back, and he proceeded to pop two of the pills into his mouth before washing them down with a swig of water. It wouldn't help right away, but his body also seemed to process iron just as fast as it went through it, so hopefully that damn headache would clear up before too long.
Until the pills started to kick in however, there wasn't much he could do besides sit still and try to get over it. With a silent sigh he tossed the bottle back into the bag and set it aside. There were only four left, that could be a problem later, but there was no use worrying about it now. Glancing back toward the fish girl, he nodded his head slightly and mouthed "Thanks" before shifting to lean back against the sand. After a few seconds of silence though, he found himself looking back at his metal sculptures. Realizing that there wasn't much use in trying to hide it any more, he gestured toward them and added a few more silent words. "It's not done yet, don't tell anyone." Whether or not they could actually read his lips well enough was still to be discovered, but it wasn't like he was going anywhere soon, might as well try talking to these two a bit.

As Sigga brought the rucksack over she couldn’t help but notice that, despite the artist’s silence, he was still relatively social in his communication even if he didn’t actually speak. Oddly enough, this was not the first mute the girl had run into since her enrollment at UA. Her previous encounter with one was equally as peculiar, though contrasting quite strongly in setting and atmosphere. On the plus side, this one wasn’t making any threats.
With the requested bag delivered, she watched him root through it before withdrawing some medication or something. It was probably a good thing the piscine wasn’t tardy in delivering it as he was quick to pop a couple of pills and follow them with a gulp of water. She reciprocated his thanks with a polite nod, now wearing a look of curiosity rather than the smug smile from earlier.
The look of curiosity persisted through her schoolmate’s offer of healing. Sigga didn’t really know the girl that well. Despite the both of them wearing the same uniform, they had only just met on the bus. She didn’t even know the other girl’s name or what class she was in, having partnered up for their cleaning duty simply because they happened to be seated next to each other on the ride over. This was the first time she got any indication of what the student’s Quirk might be. Healing Quirks were rare enough and, though the fish didn’t know the extent of the girl’s abilities, she certainly took note of her mentioning them.
It wasn’t long before the track her mind was on ran full circle. Sigga wasn’t quite able to make sense of the words mouthed by the boy, partially due to once again looking at the alloy copse her rescuer gestured to and partially due to her inexperience in lip reading. But the reflective metal reminded the girl what material the trees were made from and consequently the students’ pending task of cleaning up the beach. Her face sagged as the fish hissed out a sigh, turning away from the art piece and back towards the wreckage she had recently toppled from.
Her garbage bag and the trash-picker had been left forgotten at the edge the metallic splash zone and so the teen trudged back to reacquire the paltry equipment so their task could resume. Impossible as it may have been, it would reflect poorly on the girls if they returned from their duty with an empty bag. They could always fill it up with a bunch of rusty toasters she saw lying nearby, but Sigga didn’t want to just appear to be doing her job, she wanted to actually make a meaningful contribution.
She snapped up the trash-picker and garbage bag, shaking the black plastic open, before heading back to the duo. The mind-reader briefly wondered if perhaps her partner had some sort of powers of premonition in addition to her healing abilities. It was curious that just before ‘the incident’ the chestnut-haired girl had remarked on how useful it would be to have someone who could dissolve metal help them with their chore. They had found someone with just such a power, though it was easy to see that he had already exhausted himself. Maybe if they got a couple more bottles of whatever pills he took, and shoved them down his gullet, they could force him to just melt the entirety of the beach into piles of metallic ingots ready to be shipped to a recycling factory. It was easy to imagine the two girls snapping whips at their newfound slave. It wasn’t like he’d be able to yell for help anyway.
“We really should be getting back to work…” The dejected fish-girl said as she approached the two, handing the trash-picker back to the other girl.

He was not well, that much happened to be obvious. She observed him however, taking mental notes on his condition. Yet he took his medication from the bag, Airin considered asking him just what they contained. However, in the end she decided against doing such a thing. He did not know her well enough to confide such information in her, nor she he enough to inquire it of him. He seemed able to lie back and relax though after taking his medicine, yet Airin did not feel confident enough to leave him alone. Not because she felt like he might run off, more because in his condition she suspected anything might occur to him. Airin did not want him to suddenly turn for the worse and she be too far or otherwise ignorant of his need, especially when she might be able to help or get those who could help him if she were otherwise unable to. She followed his gesture to the sculptures, they were not finished and he wanted them to be kept secret. There was not much Airin could say to argue that point, of not telling anyone. It seemed fair and besides, at least he was helping to clear up the beach by doing so. "I won't." She promised.
Airin glanced back at Sigga surprised. "But he is hurt." She protested, not because she had not desire to continue the difficult task of cleaning up, rather she feared if his condition changed and she was not present to provide aid. "We cannot leave him unsupervised." She added to her objection, though Sigga was correct in that fact they needed to do the job they came here for.

Well that was pretty much par for the course. Any time Hiro tried talking to someone, it seemed like there was basically a 50-50 chance that they'd actually understand anything he had to say. Just so happens that he got a clean split here, with the fish girl seeming to get distracted by something, while the more charitable one at least gave a response that suggested she understood what he'd been getting at, and he gave her a slight nod in return. Speaking of which, what the heck was up with that one? Seriously, no one put that kind of energy into worrying about some stranger they knew nothing about. Was it some sort of act? Was she just trying to get people to lower their guard or something? Some of these hero types just didn't make any sense to him at all...
As the fish girl walked back over, Hiro slowly turned his head to see her wielding the trash picker and bag, an image that made him smirk again in spite of the still present headache. He couldn't help but give her another amused expression and shake his head slowly back and forth. "What good's that gonna do here?" He mouthed, more out of habit than any expectation that they'd actually understand him this time. The wannabe nurse however, apparently wasn't a fan of the idea of getting back to their ineffectual work. He couldn't fault that concept, the idea of trying to pick this mess of a beach clean the conventional way sounded like hell, but the fuss she was making over his condition was a different story. He waved his hand toward her dismissively and let himself lay fully back before holding up all five fingers. "Five minutes, I'll be fine." Okay, maybe that was an optimistic estimate, but he'd probably at least be able to catch his breath properly by then. Hopefully that would be enough to appease the girl, because seriously; it took all of his mental control not to snort at that 'unsupervised' comment. Girl obviously didn't have a clue how people like him lived their lives.

The mute had noticed Sigga approaching them. She might not have been particularly proficient in lip reading, but she was otherwise quite good at making out someone’s expression and taking contextual clues to figure out exactly what they had on their mind. You didn’t necessarily need to have a mind reading Quirk to be able to tell what someone was thinking. The bald student responded to the artist’s amused expression with half an eye-roll and stolid shrug. No one was more aware of how futile a single garbage bag and trash-picker between two girls was in cleaning up this beach than her, and the girl’s gestures stated as much. It didn’t, however, mean she was about to shirk her duties.
Unfortunately, suggesting her classmate join her in getting back to work didn’t have the desired outcome. “Ah, he’ll be fine.” The teenager said, brandishing her trash-picker dismissively.
She had taken his wordless indication at the humor in the girl’s desire to stick to her pointless duty as a sign there wasn’t anything seriously wrong. He probably just needed to rest for a bit or something. Sigga gestured around them, trying to suppress a grin, “-besides, if he dies we can just bury him under one of these trash piles. It’s not like anybody would find him.” She turned away from her academy peer before the copper-haired girl could see the fish’s expression. Sigga was obviously joking, but it would be far more amusing if her classmate didn’t know for certain.
In any case, she’d give her cleaning partner some time to dote on the mute. The healer was clearly smitten by the mysterious young man. UA student or not, nobody was that concerned about a stranger without having something else on their mind surely.
The boy and girl were given a brief minute alone, Sigga moving just out of earshot of the duo. The trash picker was finally seeing some use as the fish began picking up small scraps of plastic, cigarette butts, and other bits of debris to fill her bag with. She might not have been smart enough to come up with a plan to clean the entire beach but by Poseidon she was going to at the very least do what little she was capable of. There was no shortage of targets for the biped piscine to claim. One of the plastic water bottle lids that she tried to acquire fought back, however. To her surprise a hermit crab appeared to have made the elongated cap its personal home, attempting to fight off the would-be thief with some tiny pincers. The fish-girl eyeballed the Crustacea curiously, thankful to have never encountered one of the creatures in her water bottle lids.
Sigga did not hold onto the hermit crab for long. Quite unexpectedly the girl gave out a sudden shriek, flinging the bottle-lid dweller which landed softly on the sand before skittering under a discarded waffle iron. You’d be forgiven for thinking some villain with a hermit-crab Quirk had suddenly come to take vengeance on the girl. The actually perpetrator was… the ocean, which had unexpectedly lapped at her ankles. How embarrassing.
In her preoccupation, Sigga had not noticed the tide coming in. Not really her fault as only several minutes earlier the shoreline was much, much further out than now. Embarrassed at her sudden outburst, the student glared at the incoming tide. Hopefully the other two were braiding each other’s hair or something, rather than looking her way.
The mystery of the sudden change in tide, though, was not to remain an enigma for long.
No sooner had Sigga started muttering curses at the ocean then her phone, and just about every other phone in the surrounding area, received a text. The girl practically jumped out of her skin as the side of her uniform began suddenly vibrating. First the ocean accosts her and now her own pocket!
Anyone with a phone nearby would have gotten a message from the country’s tsunami warning system. Apparently an earthquake had occurred minutes earlier, just off the coast. Sigga pulled out her salmon-colored smartphone, still muttering under her breath. The sight of the digital screen had her eyes light up. So that’s how the ocean managed to sneak up on the fish…
Turning back to face the others, she couldn’t help but notice the boy not fishing out a phone like she had. Sigga walked back to the duo, her socks and shoes soaked. One of her hands gripped the garbage bag and trash-picker, the other held her smartphone which she flipped around to face the silver-haired teen once she got close enough. She didn’t bother saying anything, hoping that if he had witnessed her outburst that the diversion in her hand displaying the estimated tsunami height and arrival time would prove a decent distraction. Worst trip to the beach, ever.

Airin did not share her classmate's nor the patient's opinion that he would be alright. She wanted to make sure, to be certain. After all, just because he said that he would be alright did not mean it was to be the truth. However, it seemed that fate planned something different for them all. She felt her phone vibrate in her pocket, she glanced at the message, her eyes wide with a mixture of surprise and horror. After a few moments she managed to compose herself. She glanced over her shoulder to find Sigga already with them, showing their injured/ill/exhausted friend, it was hard to tell the exact nature of his ailment. But what she knew for certain was that they needed to move, to go now. "Let's move." It would be foolish beyond reason to remain here. The unsaid question however was could they make it safe or high enough ground in time. It was the first time that Yui had been in close enough to actually be in danger from a Tsunami. She shuddered to imagine the destructive chaos it might cause, could the three of them actually make much of a difference if the worst happened?
Airin did not know, she glanced over her shoulder at the sea. How long did they have?

Despite the girl's insistence on giving him a full medical examination, Hiro more or less just started to ignore her, closing his eyes and just letting himself rest in the sand. And for a few glorious minutes his efforts seemed to be rewarded, the pounding in his head starting to recede as the ambiance of the waves took over. Although... was it just him or was that getting louder? Before he could come to a definitive answer though, a shrill shriek from the water's edge shattered his mental calm and kick started the pounding of his headache again. Annoyed, Hiro gave a silent grumble and then rolled onto his side to see the fish girl approaching again. She had her cell phone out, and so did the one with the orange hair... and neither of them were wearing a particularly amused expression on their faces. The boy raised an eyebrow, but soon enough one of them turned the screen so that he could see what they were so concerned about.
Oh.
Hiro sat up with a start, immediately regretting it and visibly flinching as his head protested the sudden movement. Could this medicine work any slower? Whatever, they didn't exactly have time to sit around. With a bit of exertion he pushed through the disorientation and staggered to his feet. Sometimes there were stories about how heroes would step in and use their quirks to lessen the impact of natural disasters, but that sort of intervention generally required advanced warning and it wasn't exactly something you could rely on. No, as the girl said their best bet was to just get the hell out of there.
Luckily, this wasn't actually his first experience with a tsunami and he had an idea of where to go, lessons from the boss that had actually managed to stick in his head over the years. The vagabond quickly scooped up his bag and started to move unsteadily away from the water's edge, only pausing briefly to wave for the two girls to follow him. Their first priority was just to get past the sea wall, and then to get as much elevation they could facing away from the shore. After that it was more or less just down to luck and not panicking... And of course while all of this was going through his head, on tiny voice in the back of his mind lingered on the fact that all the hard work he'd put into his sculptures on the beach was about to be ruined by a fluke of nature. Wasn't that just a hell of a thing...

Though time was short, there was still plenty of it for everyone to find elevation to shelter from the inbound waves. The danger itself was relatively minimal. Across the unsightly beach you could see the various UA students that had arrived to assist with cleanup already making their way back towards the academy bus at a leisurely pace. Some seemed dispirited at not having had the time to make any significant change to the landscape while others seemed relieved their assignment had been cut short. Sigga fell in the former of the two camps. Well, maybe in the later as well. There was only so much a fish and her trash-picker could accomplish. Though the picene may have originally planned to use the trip to the beach as more of an enjoyable diversion to her regular schedule, her thinking on the subject had definitely switched at some point. There wasn’t anything to be done about it however. Not today in any case. When it looked like the white-haired young man was done reading the informative text Sigga pocketed her smartphone. Her schoolmate echoed the thought everyone had on what to do next and the bald teen replied with a melancholy “Yeah… Let’s go.”The new-found artist had already collected himself and was making a beeline towards the sea wall. The girl turned just in time to see the mute offer a wave goodbye to the girls, to which she replied with one of her own alongside a somewhat abstracted smile. At least with their duties cut short there wouldn’t be anymore misadventures amongst the piles of trash for her. Sigga quickly jogged to catch up with the chestnut-haired girl and the two of them made their way back to the bus. The student tried to dismiss some of the bitter thoughts she had on the state of the beach and nature’s interference in her cleanup duties. Maybe this was for the best. It was unlikely for them to have made much of a dent in this mess anyway. That said, the fish had already decided that the next time the opportunity to switch from class cleanup to beach cleanup presented itself, she’d sign up to go to Dagobah Municipal Beach just like today. Next time, however, she’d come here with a determined mindset and actually make a difference in this unholiest of wastelands. [Exit Thread]
