The classroom was empty, the desks and chairs moved so that they lined up against the walls leaving a clear space in the centre of the room. It was as good as any place to practice, she just needed to return it to how she found it when she left. Currently, the only occupant was the small student Yui who set up a microphone, the wire snaking across the floor to a socket. She had been working on a new song, itself not a unheard of event. She removed her uniform jacket, setting it over the backs of one of the chairs before approaching the microphone. She paused, taking a few deep breaths before starting to sing. "Morning at last, so I open my eyes just like any other day. A tie around my neck and that's the last step." Yui lost herself to the feel of music, there was just something about music, whether it be singing or playing an instrument that made everything feel right, it made the world feel alive. "Time passes by and I'm at my homeroom class. Holding my head up high, I take in a deep breath and with it I'm all set." Though she enjoyed training to be a hero and indeed hoped to be one, her love for music had not dimmed. "It's just your typical day, that's carried on the wind." She gripped the mic stand, closing her eyes. "I think I hear it calling me, I think I feel it waiting to be heard, but can I answer, I feel my heart is trembling, but then I feel it once again, and like a million stars it fills the sky, it flickers in your mind. So I wish them well and wave them farewell, till we meet again." Yui always found there to be great joy with music, it helped her to express her inner most thoughts and feelings.
"Taking a break while in the middle of chores, sweeping the corridors, alone in the hallway, why does this feel strange. I'm unaware that time will never resume, for the clock with my name, but somehow everyday I feel there's been a change." Perhaps it was the part of her soul which desired to be a hero which made her want to sing, if she found such joy and peace from music maybe others would. Maybe it might help them get through whatever problems they were facing, or maybe it was simply her own way of dealing with the difficulties life threw her way. "The dust I sweep turns to snow, it's slowly melting away. I think I hear it calling me, I think i feel it waiting to be heard. But I can answer, I feel my chance is fleeting, I feel as if I've finally found, all of the missing days so dear to me, my story goes on..." Her heart lifted with every word she sung. "I don't remember why, it caught me by surprise. You took me by the hand, pulling me along. Yesterday's far away, but we still have today, did you feel my heart just skip a beat as we greet this brand new day." For Yui her love of music all started when her father gave her a guitar for a birthday present. Since then, her life had been filled with the sound of music. "I think I hear it calling me, I think I feel it waiting to be heard, but can I answer, I feel my heart is shaking, but then I feel it once again, then like a thousand mornings yet to rise they dawn before my eyes."
Music was akin to a portal to another world, capable of healing hearts and making the soul truly feel. She gave herself to the song. "I think I hear it calling me, I think I feel it waiting to be heard, but I can I answer, I feel my soul is trembling. I finally found my missing piece, lost in these days that mean the world to me. The finish line I dream, so I wish them well, and wave them farewell, till we meet again..." The song finished, she opened her eyes once again, catching her breath, a huge smile on her face. She had the lyrics down now she merely needed to work on the guitar to go with it.

The late evening burnt the hall floor to a bloody orange. Once sterile whites, square pale tiles, reduced to a smear of neon-pink under the glare of the fast-fading sun that now sank below the distant horizon like a plump tangerine dunked toward the bottom of a deep barrel.
The burden of a long week left Tada headed home late, forced into an evening of what was practically duress in the name of keeping up appearances. It would have made total sense to just skip the last day of classes after how hard he'd worked that week.
His poor antlers were practically burnt to nubs.
Sometimes, he felt like a boy holding onto too many balloons. Pulled into so many different skyward directions and tugged so high that letting go was an impossibility.
Maybe that was why he stopped on the stair for so long, what led him to miss the sudden sound of an amp and the whine of a speaker that normally would've sounded like nails screeching down a chalkboard. Maybe that fatigue was why he was so zoned out — but the fatigue wasn't what brought him crashing back to reality.
That, instead, was the sound of a semi-familiar voice belting out through the empty hall. Tada heard it from the stairwell, and the sound led his brow to furrow like a pair of hungry caterpillars.
The song it carried drew him down the hall, a moth after a lamp, and before he knew it, he was standing there in the threshold with a single hand on the doorframe. The other, the one he should have been using to hold his jaw up, laid limp at his side.
"Oh," he muttered when the girl opened her eyes, a breath of relief just free of her lips.
Tada went a little red.
He hoped he wasn't ruining her moment or anything.
"Pretty song," he said, lamely. "Did... uh, you write that? I liked it. I mean, I'm not the one who has to like it, I guess, but it was good."
Oh god. It was her moment and he was totally ruining it. He felt like some sort of weird, musical pervert. What sort of sick monster liked someone else's song? Suddenly wishing his face didn't look quite so much like a tomato, Tada lifted a hand to hide the nervous grin spreading like wildfire from cheek to cheek.
"No, like, really, really good. You can tell you've been working, is all I'm saying. Like, I'm proud. Or, I would be. I don't know you very well, so, not very proud, but I would be if I knew you better..."

Caught up in her song, Yui had failed to notice the arrival of an unexpected audience. Her eyes widened and she went a little red, embarrassed that someone had been listening in on her singing. She did not know immediately what to say. She did not mind people listening to her music, Yui often played her guitar in accompaniment with her singing. She may have been training to be a hero, but music clearly happened to be a key part of her life. Indeed, she hoped to try and set up a band of sorts at UA High. Though the problem with that was Yui tended to lack confidence and thus was reluctant to start asking. On stage she could play and sing, to show off her soul to the world but away from it, she seemed to be much more quiet.
"Thanks." Yui answered quietly, glad he seemed to like the song, her lips forming a small but delighted smile on her face. "Yes, I write all of my songs." She confessed, though the hardest part was working out the music to go with them. "It's not finished... I need to work on the music to go with the lyrics now." But hopefully soon it would be completed, another song to add to her growing list of them. Hero training may have been fun and indeed, perhaps Yui did want to be a hero... Yet there was a part of her which desired to tread down a different more musical path. Maybe she could do both? Be a world famous hero and a musician.
He seemed to be quiet nervous as he tried to explain that he liked the song, stumbling over his words. Yui knew what that felt like, it was why she preferred to be quiet most of the time. It was difficult to talk to people, she found it far easier to explain how she felt, through music. "Thanks." She said uncertain as to what else to say to him. He seemed like a nice enough person, but like he said, they did not know each other very well. Though he did mention he might feel more proud if they knew each other better? She was not sure what that happened to be about. If they wanted to be friends, they could always hang out? Why were people always so confusing? "Do you play?" Yui inquired, hoping a change of topic might make him somewhat more relaxed and herself feel a tad less embarrassed by his compliments about her musical abilities. It would be great if he did play an instrument, then together they would be part of the way to former a band.
Though the downside meant that they were more likely to be gossiped about. Yui hated being talked about, regardless of whether or not it happened to be a positive or a negative, she simply could not stand being a topic of conversation. It was probably for her the only thing which made playing and practising her music as school difficult. Her songs tended to generate conversation, which in turn distressed Yui to no small measure. The truth probably stemmed from the fact she was quite a reserved individual and as such, any conversation based on her music was... Embarrassing to her as it was her soul on display, a fragment of her very being reborn in the notes and lyrics of a song.

Tada didn't know if the fact that they were both apparently tomatoes did anything to stymy his rapidly growing embarrassment. His new partner in song-crime recovered much faster than he did, accepting his clumsy praise with a muffled thanks and a brief confession regarding the origin of her music.
It was through her calm procession that he found the strength he needed to turn his horrified blush into a wary squint, one that he hoped belied the fact that he was listening to her as intently as he could. He kinda wanted to tell her that he once spent a year playing bass, but compared to the awesome tunes she could apparently belt out on a whim...
"Uh, not anymore," he admitted.
Music was fun and he loved playing, but he was always so burnt out at the end of the week that practicing reliably felt like too much. Tada was, after all, a lazybones. Also sort of a dingdong, really, with clumsy fingers and a knack for breaking strings.
Still, he could feel just how far out on a limb she was putting herself. He caught her in the middle of an intimate melody, one that sang the truth hidden away in her heart like a gemstone in a bird's nest. Swallowing back his trepidation, Tada went on.
"I've burnt my fingers too much to really feel the tips... but I've got a good ear," he reasoned. "So I'm a good sounding board. You don't have to worry about me telling anyone about your stuff. I'll leave that up to you."
But leaving that song of hers unheard felt sort of criminal, didn't it?
It wasn't that it was a particularly catchy tune or that he could feel every word, but he could feel the sentiment behind it, and he understood exactly the message she tried to squirrel away in the corners of an empty, twilit classroom.
Muddling through as best he could, Tada took a step forward and led the way toward true friendship with a jovial plop onto the instructor's desk on the far right side.
He never felt so much like a deer in the headlights as he did in front of a pretty girl. Why did he have to be such a sucker for a pretty face? Why couldn't he have found a half-naked buff dude singing instead so he could at least be himself?
"Tada, by the way. You're, uh...?"

Ah, that was unfortunate. Yet Yui did not let this revelation affect her however, not everyone after all enjoyed music as much as she did. She would only reluctantly admit that it was sometimes a challenge to practice her art as well as deal with the homework the school set out. But she was not about to willingly abandon something she cherished with every fibre of her soul. It allowed her to communicate in a way she otherwise struggled to do with the rest of the student body. "That's okay." Yui replied soothingly, it was not for everyone. She felt a prickle of curiosity at his statement. Did it have something to do with his Quirk? However Yui found herself reluctant to inquire about such a thing. They were private really, if he wished to tell her more about his powers then she felt he would in time. Yui after all had not revealed anything about her own Quirk, the only thing he really knew about her was she could sing, but she could also play the guitar.
She felt relieved that he would not be going about their school telling others about her songs. She knew that the students already possessed knowledge of some of them, however this happened to be a new one, still in development. Yui shuddered to imagine the gossip if word of this leaked out, the last thing she wanted was to be pestered about it by anyone. In time, when it was completed she would play it. Whether at an impromptu concert, in the streets or in the cafeteria, well that remained to be seen. The latter only if she found herself able to get permission, the last thing she desired was to find herself in trouble or worse, banded from playing her music. "Thanks." She said, meaning the word entirely. Not every student was so willing to be tight lipped, Yui hated gossip and generally stood as far away from it as possible. It did not matter what kind either, whether someone liked someone, or a pair in love had fallen out... Regardless of it's nature she tried to avoid it at all costs. Life tended to be far easier when one chose to avoid such conversations and the problems it caused.
"Lynne." Yui answered his question. "Yui Lynne." She added her first name in. "Pleasure to meet you Tada." She wondered if he planned on sticking around to watch. It would not have bothered her if he did, she could play to an audience, it was talking in front of others she struggled at doing.

"Woah, hey, that's not fair at all," Tada complained, leaning forward so that his elbows rested on his knees. He caught his cheek with his fist, leaving him poised like a modern day, much less impressive David plastered on the far side of the classroom. "You have a way cooler name than me. My name's basically a sound effect."
Choosing "Tada" as a birth name for their only child was honestly his family's biggest mistake. Then again, he supposed it kinda fit.
He was lean and gangly, with an explosion of messy blond hair that flinched around his face like fingers of solar power curling over the surface of the sun. Only some of his fingers were taped, and there was a sea of bruises blossoming beneath the fabric of his uniform's shirt and jacket. His antlers were three-quarters burnt, and he smelled very faintly of gasoline.
Yui was a sight for sore eyes in comparison.
She was lean too, but not in the same, wispish way that he was. Her hair was bright and colorful, and there were no dark rings under her eyes to make her look a little like a human raccoon. She looked whole, and in the ebbing light of the evening, he figured she must've been in her element.
"You get a pretty face and a pretty name? Trade me dude, honestly," he grumbled.
She had a killer singing voice, cool hair... next thing he knew, she'd be telling him that she knew differential calculus or something. He wasn't even sure if that was a real thing or not.
Before either of them could dwell on his compliment, Tada pushed on.
"Do you always practice this late, Yui?"

At this Yui let out a small nervous chuckle. "You would have to take that up with my mom." She had been fortunate in life when it came to the naming department. Indeed the Japanese name seemed somewhat appropriate given how she now lived in Japan. To Yui, despite having been first born in America, Japan was her home since she moved there when she happened to be very young. But that was all ancient history now. "Tada is not a bad name to have." She tried to cheer him up about it, there were worst names. But of course, it was an easy thing to say since she struck it lucky when it came to names. Such was life though, one of it's many complex mysteries she supposed.
Yui was quite short, though she hoped to have a growth spurt soon. After all remaining four foot seven for her entire life did not sound like much fun. Especially since nearly every other student happened to be taller than her. Of course, there were a few exceptions to this regrettable rule. Though that said, it did feel strange when she spent some time with those students. She was not used to being taller than someone, she did not know how the taller students managed it.
At his compliment, Yui reddened, her cheeks almost turning the same shade as her hair from embaressment. It took her a few moments to formulate a response. "Thanks... I think." She said quietly, not really used to such a compliment. She did not if it was flirting, Yui lacked much experience in that regard. Nor was she the type to particular seek advice from anyone on the subject, such a thing would inevitably lead to gossip. The last thing she wanted to have flying round the school was rumours she had a crush on someone. Or worse... Someone had a crush on her. She suppressed a shudder at the thought. What did someone do anyway with someone they liked? Watched tv with them? Have food together? Hang out? Not to mention the inevitably fights which came about. Though she had never seen her mother or father fight or even fall out over anything. The man she called her father, was actually her step father, but since he all but raised her from a young age to her he was. Yui's real father long deserted her and her mother, she had zero desire or interest in ever tracking him down.
She shrugged. "Yeah. Best time to." It was easier to reserve a classroom for her purposes at this late hour in the day. "It's never too late for music." She added on quietly with a faint smile.

Seeing his counterpart blush a little made Tada feel a little less lame. He waved off her thanks with a silent don't worry about it and a shake of the head, then went right back to listening. It made sense that she practiced late. There were fewer students to catch her performing one of her secret concert sessions.
Tada would've been out honing his hero skills with the others were it not for how tired he was and how little fuel he had left in the tank. The time for practicing that week was long over, and getting back out on the field was just going to leave him more drained than anything else.
Still, he didn't know much about humility.
Part of him would always wanna run back out the moment he got restless, too energetic to do nothing but too dried up to do something worthwhile. Feeling the fatigue in the back of his neck, Tada ran a hand through his blond hair and massaged the point where his spine cradled his head.
"Amen, dude," he muttered, pointing a finger in her direction to emphasize his assent. Anything was better than silence, music included.
"You're in, uh... the other class, right? 1-A? I wanna say I've seen you around, but I'm terrible with faces."
He could admit that much without feeling like an idiot. Tada was great at a bunch of things. Science (sometimes), math (sometimes), reading when it wasn't eight in the morning... kicking people in the face, definitely solid at that... but putting a face to a name wasn't in his list of skills.
Man, he would've made an absolutely terrible cop.
Still massaging the sore joint in his neck, he rambled a bit more.
"I'll make sure to remember yours this time, though. Can't believe I forgot it once, honestly. Hey, though, if you play music, do you have other bandies? Like, members of your band who play with you, that kinda thing. I'm not very good myself, but I can totally be a groupie or something."

Yui nodded. "That's right, 1-A all the way." She chuckled at her little comment. Yui had never been one for the possible rivalry with the other classes or even other students. High School was hard enough without making unnecessary problems for oneself. Besides she was too busy or too shy to actively become engaged in any rivalry or issues between students. She suspected her dislike of gossip probably helped her to avoid some of the troubles and arguments. After all, it was hard to get involved when you were not able to be accused of spreading anything right? "It's okay... Unless I'm playing music I am the quieter one." She confessed with a small shrug. Yui due to her short height sometimes believed that she was easy to overlook, unless she was playing. She could not wait for a chance to play with some others in a band or in front of a larger audience. Ambition was a good thing to have, but in truth though she did not actively desire success in music, she played mostly for fun, it would be nice to see herself on a poster or see her records being sold.
Yui was not very good at small talk, speaking with people happened to be rather difficult. She did not think it was because Japanese was not her first language, she knew it came down to the fact she happened to be shy. At his next question, she shook her head. Though she was currently attempting to find musically inclined people in order to make an attempt at forming a band. It would be difficult, to get so many different groups together and functional, everyone would have their own plans, ideas, hopes, goals etc etc. The organisation alone would be a significant concern to keep on top of, but hopefully everyone would get alone and work with each other. "Thanks... No it is just me so far." Well her and her guitar, but the pair came as a set deal really.
"You can be the first groupie if you want? Not that there is much of a band to speak of." She smiled at him shyly. "You can stay and listen to a song or two if you wanted?" It was a genuine offer, but she understood if he needed to be somewhere else. Life kept the heroes of the future busy, just like their work one day would too.

Sweet!
He was a groupie. Or, at least, he was on the way to being one. Honestly, the specific requirements of groupie-dom escaped him, but he wasn't about to look a gift horse in the mouth. Even if it was a super pretty gift horse with a set of amazing pipes.
Tada didn't mind that Yui was a little on the quiet side. He was a little too loud most days anyway. Rubbing the back of his head, Tada offered up a tithe in the form of a smile, buried in the glow of a sun setting far over the horizon. That same orange light bathed the whole of the classroom, save for one sliced corner on the far end.
"Go for it, dude," he affirmed, glad to have something to do that wasn't sitting alone in his room for another day.
Making friends wasn't his forte. It wasn't that he was an asshole. He was just... a little too sure of himself, was all, and he needed to practice not being so weird. He was always either mega-clumsy or mega-quiet or mega-not-himself and it always left him feeling a little off.
"Play your heart out!"

Yui offered him a smile, before picking up her guitar. She strummed a few notes, before adjusting one of the strings. She repeated the action, pleased with the sound before approaching the microphone she had set up earlier. She took a few deep breaths then launched into the song, both her guitar and voice in harmony, the perfect accompaniment to each other. "There's no curtain call, and there's no point in life at all. If each day ends and this bent heart of mine cannot heal. I can't see a darn thing but could it be, that the gray clouds that I loved completely blinded me." The shy, quiet Yui that most of the students knew was gone, replaced by someone who was confident, in control, someone who happened to be in their element. "They're souls like me and you. Who aren't aware of what they do, always laughing in the face of danger and truth. Why can't they see, right through their hazy glee? That nothing good comes of rushing in blindly."
Yui shot him a look, completely at peace, happy and content. This was what she lived for, what she was good at, music. "I'll keep moving on. No matter what may come my way. And I'll sing, not fearing what they say. Deep in my heart I know for sure, that you are hurt, feel insecure, and surly crying because you are only human." Even though it was only the two of them, it was clear that she had considerable musical talent, if she did not have a Quirk and decide to be a hero it would be all to easy to imagine her on stage and on posters and album covers. "These tears of mine are screaming out. It's not a lie. And as I cry I want to thank you, for showing me what I could be, I won't let go, I thank you so. Yeah..."
There was something special about music, something about it which gave Yui an immeasurable sense of joy and purpose. "Try with all your might but dreams only live in the night, I'm so tried of them always being out of reach. We don't realize that the defeat's a disguise. Our fighting spirit is the flame of our souls. So I'll wait by that door. No matter what may come my way. And holding out my hand, I will say..." Each note was perfection, a melody that would make even the birds themselves jealous. "If you are crushed, if you are hurt, here is the strength and the confidence you have misplaced. If you feel down, listen for my song... These tears of mine are screaming out! I found you on this gray world without any blue, but you showed me every colour, I'll hold your hand and won't let go... I thank you so..." The last few notes of the song hung in the air before she lowered the guitar, taking several gulps of water from a bottle, before offering him a small grin. "So... What do you think?"
