No, she didn’t play the piano. Her hands were always that big. Feet too. Probably had something to do with her Quirk. Most people didn’t seem to notice, which was the way she preferred it. As far as Sigga was concerned everyone else just had small hands and feet, and hers were normal sized. She was still a little self-conscious about them, though. Maybe this would be the year she finally went and bought herself some sandals, but… probably not.
The girl interlaced her fingers between her toes, teetering on the very edge of the UA swimming pool. Burning brightly in the sky, the sun glistened off the three earrings she forgot to remove from her right headfin. Besides the metal jewelry, she was only wearing her cleverly disguised ankle monitor, and her academy swimsuit, which fit her perfectly and was surprisingly comfortable. Sigga was particularly fond of the presence of the thigh leggings which ended shortly before the fins on her legs began, though the thoughtful engineering behind the design seemed to have taken her, specifically, into account. Two pairs of thin slits ran along the swimsuit near her lower ribs. You couldn’t tell since her skin was sealed, but right at those slits was where the girl’s gills were located. In all honesty, Sigga would have preferred if that particular detail had been omitted from the design. She never really used her gills. I mean, why would she? Even if the discomfort didn’t last particularly long, getting waterboarded for only a little bit still seemed like a pretty inconvenient cost to being able to breathe under water.
Sigga didn’t have any swimming classes today, though. In fact, 1-B’s very first swimming class of the year was scheduled for tomorrow morning. It was clear the girl wasn’t at the pool because she was fond of swimming, but then why put on the swimsuit and mope about?
She finally shifted from her squat, and dipped her toes into the pool. Her anxious expression relaxed as the cool water tickled her toes. It was minor comfort to hear tomorrow’s swim class was going to be segregated. That meant fewer people would see her. Still, she had to at least get rid of some of her discomfort before tomorrow. Everyone probably expected her to be some sort of expert swimmer. There wasn’t anything she could do about that by the time class started, but maybe she could banish the feeling in her gut; that sense of trepidation she felt each time she entered a body of water larger than a bathtub. Ever since that incident when she was six, large bodies of water never looked quite the same to her.

It was a particularly hot day; and Mikael just wasn’t having it. He had to go for a swim. But public swimming pools wouldn’t do. Why? Well, he wasn’t obviously in the mood. That’s why. Not that he was in a foul mood. He was actually feeling quite dapper and eager to meet fellow students, make new friends, and maybe have some fun. So he decided to make his way to the UA swimming pool. Yes, this was a joint pool for all students, regardless of gender.
After changing into a comfortable pair of blue colored shorts with white stripes on the side, Mikael stepped out of the gents changing room, having placed his clothes in the locker, and onto the entrance to the pool.
“Not too many people; that’s good”
He thought to himself. Sure, he wanted to mingle but too many people in a pool are never fun. Standing at the entrance, he held onto the towel wrapped around his neck as he looked around and breathed in the air.
As he stood shirtless at the entrance, the scars on his back and his hands visible to the world, he felt some eyes turn toward him. He didn’t mind though. In fact, he didn’t even bother with the prying or curious eyes of everyone else. It was a part of him that didn’t bother him. And really, when people heard about it, it didn’t bother them either. Visibly though, they did look like something straight out of a horror story. Kind of a bad start for first impressions.
His gaze stopped at a student sitting at the edge of the water. From the looks of it, she had a mutation quirk that made her look like a fish. Immediately, Mikael’s first thought and assumption was:
”That person’s built for the water. Is she here to show off?”
He shook his head at the thought. Seriously? What was he thinking. That’s no way to think about anyone. Did he even know her name? Nope!
While he continued to stare at her from behind for a good fifteen seconds, a mischievous thought turned on a light bulb in his mind. And he visibly grinned. He didn’t like his earlier trail of thought but he definitely loved this one.
Having made up his mind, he carefully and as quietly as he could, walked towards the lady hoping to make it before she jumped into the water. He just had to. It was too perfect to not do it. Slowly, he got close enough to be within arm’s reach and then, he attempted to push her into the water by shoving forward with both arms.
The intent was to catch her off-guard and throw her into the water - as an introductory mischief.
Was this a good idea? He didn’t know. There was no way to know for sure. But, she was at the edge of the water, and she had a swimsuit on, why would she possibly mind him pushing her into the water?
He assumed that, for some reason, she wouldn’t mind the fact that they were complete strangers. And had never met before.
Was this actually a good idea? Mikael was about to find out.

It wasn’t something she ever really thought about, that incident nine years ago. She had gone over to a childhood friend’s for a swim. At some point after the girls had fun at the pool for a bit, and for reasons that were lost to time, Sigga’s friend had attempted to pull the little fish out of the water. Normally a harmless action but in this case instead of grabbing Sigga by the hand or arm the other girl had tugged on her esca, a natural rod-like protrusion sticking out of her forehead similar to those found on anglerfish. The results had been immediate and catastrophic. The entire organ and accompanying nerves had gotten yanked out of poor Sigga’s skull resulting in emergency surgery and a four-day coma. The fish had subsequently developed an apprehensive perspective on swimming pools, though the day of the incident itself had been long forgotten. A little ironic, considering some of her Quirk’s capabilities.
Despite only having heard about the incident second-hand, she still wasn’t too keen on taking a dip. Sigga wasn’t afraid of going into the water, though. She just really didn’t want to. That’s all. She wasn’t chicken. She was fish. A fish that didn’t want to swim. Totally normal.
Sigga flexed her toes in the water, delaying the purpose of her visit to the pool. It was as if two-halves of her subconscious were locked in some inexplicable, eternal battle about whether she should jump into the pool now, or ten seconds from now. The conditions were hardly going to get any more ideal. No sense procrastinating anymore. She was just going to have to get over the trepidation quickly, like ripping off a bandaid. Here we go. She was going to do it. She was going to jump in…. now.
…
…
The fish didn’t move.
Okay… NOW.
…
Still nothing. It was almost upsetting how equally reluctant and insistent her mind was on getting more than her feet into the water. Sigga wrinkled her brow in frustration, a crease forming between her eyes where a normal person’s nose would be. She had it up to here with her inexplicably obtuse psyche!
Fine. A final countdown and she’d do it for real, even if the swimming pool turned into lava. One… Tw-
It was probably for the best that the countdown never finished, lest her hebetudinous reasoning created a black hole at the swimming pool’s surface. Sigga barely had time to inhale sharply in surprise. Though clearly impossible, the swimming pool seemingly got tired of waiting and came up to meet her. As graceful as a bag of wet cats, the girl’s arms flailed in protest. Then the water swallowed her up.
Far be it that the girl take stock of the fact she never learned how to swim. Her legs didn’t seem to know that was the case, though, as they quickly propelled her back to the water’s surface so she could identify the miscreant that had interrupted her modus operandi. She was much too vexed to do something pointless like drown.
As her dome pierced the water’s surface, her peepers locked on to the only suspect. Guilty, the amber orbs said as her bared teeth took in some much needed air. Without uttering a single word, Sigga hefted herself out of the swimming pool and stepped towards the albino. It looked like she was about to give him a piece of her mind. She certainly knew several word that would suit this situation perfectly. But… that was only a bluff. Instead her hand reached out for his, intent to grip his wrist before her other hand slammed his shoulder, pivoting on her foot, and sending the miscreant into the depths below. If only he had been fully clothed, vengeance would have been that much sweeter.

In the boy's locker room, Paco peeled off his sweat-drenched t-shirt and tossed it in his gym bag, exchanging it for his UA track jacket that he draped over his bare shoulders in an attempt to cover the smell. After his last class he'd challenged Guillermo to a quirk-enabled race from one side of campus to the other and back again. Fortunately for the younger brother, Guy had rolled a quirk that just allowed him to change his hair color, allowing Paco to snatch the victory. Unfortunately it was hotter out than he'd realized, leaving him in desperate need of cooling off. Pulling on the dark blue UA swim shorts, he pursed his lips in distaste. They were longer than he typically preferred coming all the way to the top of his knees, but he decided it wasn't worth getting written up for to wear his own suit… again. Oh well, at least they covered his volleyball tan lines from last week.
Moseying out of the locker room and toward the pool, a light breeze picked up and flourished his jacket. Like a cape. Hmm, he really ought to see Xavier soon about his hero costume. Had he already been shot down for not technically being a hero course student? Unimportant. More important to consider, would capes be back in style by the time he graduated? Doubtful. Unfortunate, they seemed so fun and--
SPLASH!
The sound jolted Paco from his thoughts, drawing his attention to the largely empty pool. The water was rippling, but a completely dry figure stood at the water's edge. 'Oh, aha, it's that kid from Profe Kawaha's class…' Freezing him mid-stride, he rummaged through his mind to remember the boy's name. 'Katsuo… no, that was the other kid… but not the cat kid… that's confusing. Hmm, Miguel! No, Mikael! Yea that's it. The adorable one.' Rather pleased with himself, he made his way toward the first year with a grin and a wave.
"Hey, Mikael, right? Was hoping to cha--"
SPLASH!
Before he could get a full sentence out, a sea creature emerged from the pool and grabbed the poor lad, tossing him in the deep end. Hand still in the air, Paco's face went blank as the creature now stood next to him and he contemplated if he should run, fight or get his phone out because no one was going to believe the story of the monster in the UA pool. Finally after a few seconds of mental processing, the realization hit him that it was a student who had leapt from the pool's depths to attack poor Mikael. Once that was cleared up for him, his body relaxed and he let out a soft chuckle. Poor kid. Hand on his hip, he smirked and nodded toward fish girl. "Nice." Tossing his track jacket on a chair by the sidelines, he stretched his arms behind his head and then across his chest as he continued, "You guys training I guess? Mind if I watch?" His voice trailed off as he reached down to touch his toes, raising his head to look with a mischievous glance. "...or join?"

Growing up with two older siblings, Mikael was no stranger to rough housing. In fact, one could argue that he was a promising graduate of the sibling-style bullying that is customary to most households. Wrestling with the older brother, teased by the sister, being forced to sit in countless tea parties, and attending numerous doll weddings were only some of the “experiences” Mikael had grown up with. Yes, playing around in the pool was no exception.
The accumulative effect of such a childhood was Mikael’s love for childish games and mischief; which had led to this situation.
His plan went perfectly or at least that was his first impression. He successfully managed to push the lady into the water with quite the splash. That part was according to plan. The successive events that followed, weren’t.
You know that feeling you get that runs through your spine when you assume that you haven’t done anything wrong but you realize that you did something horribly wrong? Mikael felt that for a brief moment when the fish-lady seemed to struggle with the water.
He was about to jump in after her to “save” her. Only to be stopped by her dome protruding from the water surface right after having “drowned”.
Twas not the shape nor the shine of the dome that caught his attention. Twas the fiery eyes that were laser focused on him. He let out an audible “gulp” having realized that the prank had gone horribly wrong. And now, the roles had been reversed. The prey had become the hunter; and a fierce one at that.
Her rise from the water surface was elegant, quick, and intimidating. Was it the way she had recovered and jumped out immediately? No, it wasn’t just that. One could expect that from her considering her apparent physical make-up. It was the gaze, the expressions that clearly said: “You done it now!”
For Mikael, time slowed down. His heart raced and pumped blood at an accelerated pace; he could feel the adrenaline rush. Thoughts came flooding in. In that instant, he imagined a complete scenario where he would give a speech to save himself from this situation. And the speech would be something like:
”Now, now, it was just a harmless prank. Let’s not take it any other way. I’m sorry, if I hurt your feelings, I didn’t mean to. I’d love to be friends with you” - not really a good speech. But a speech nonetheless.
As she stepped towards him, he would raise his arms with his palms facing towards her to try and tell her to calm down. But before his mentally rehearsed speech could make it’s way out of his mouth, a perfect symphony of fluent movements would orchestrate in that instant.
His wrist grabbed and pulled, his shoulder smacked from behind as his body pushed forward and out of control with her footing delivering the final blow; as some would say: “KO!”.
He was pulled and hurled into the water face first. Completely defeated.
Mikael could feel that right before he was thrown mercilessly into the water, someone had addressed him. And now, as he sank into the pool, someone was speaking and saying something.
However, he had no time to respond. Why? Because the game was afoot. Would someone like Mikael let go of such an opportunity? Of course not! He was going to make the best of it and attempt another prank!
It was clear to him that the road to victory would not be a straightforward one. He was literally out of his element when considering his opponent. So, what was his next plan of action? Simple: playing dead. He had practiced it time and time again in his childhood. Though, his siblings knew him well enough by now. The two people outside the pool though; it was less likely that they did too.
Moments after Mikael was thrown into the water, and after Paco completed his statement, Mikael’s body would appear on the water surface with his back and posterior facing the sky and completely motionless.
It was a gamble - but he was hoping unlike his first plan that half-worked, this one might steal the victory!

The pavement, warm from the bright sun overhead, looked almost as if it was soaking up the wet footprints left behind like a sponge. Sigga’s average five-foot-two frame seemed to tower over the now-submerged body of her mischievous assailant. She looked down at the silhouette below, distorted by the agitated water. Her teeth were still bared but that didn’t always mean she was in a foul mood. Granted there was reason enough in this particular circumstance, but normally her lips were parted simply because she had to breathe, what with the lack of a nose as an alternative airway.
Sigga had been much too absorbed to notice there was a witness to the whole affair. Her head spun abruptly at the sound of an unfamiliar voice commending her decisive action. Her amber eyes briefly widened. Had the unknown student not just approved of her prompt call to action she would have undoubtedly flushed with embarrassment. Retaliation wasn’t known to be in her repertoire and the girl was normally far more averse to taking any sort of brash action that might escalate a situation.
In this case, though? The fish girl gave a curt nod to the handsome boy with a “Hrmph,” accepting of his appraisal, and then turned back towards the pool to make sure no counterattack was inbound. Her initial goal for the day had been forgotten, but only for a minute.
With justice delivered, and in front of an approving audience to boot, the girl’s temper was placated. What’s more she was beginning to realize that her skin was far less parched than it had been moments ago. Sigga’s eyes blinked. She had been in the water. The girl gave the swimming pool a confounding look, as if it had just offered an off-color remark about the state of immigration in Japan. Heck?
Was that all she had required all along? Just a little nudge albeit a literal one? Perhaps she should have thanked her assailant instead of launching him into the pool. Whoops.
“Uh…” Sigga began, head turning again but eyes still fixated on the pool. “Training?” Her tone seemed dubious. Eventually her eyes joined the rest of her in facing the newcomer. “Uh,” the fish said again, before the rest of her thoughts caught up with her and the corners of her lips began to curl into a grin. “Yeah, sure,” she chortled. Training, her mind thought sarcastically, though in good humor. She wasn’t sure what kind of training she was thought to be taking part in, but the lads assumption wasn’t actually that far off. “Be my guest.” She gestured one hand at the now surfacing body of the other boy. He didn’t seem to be moving, his short hair looking much like grey seaweed slowly twisting in the water.
“Do you think he’s dead?” the fish asked, a bit of concern in her voice. But of course she wasn’t buying the act. You can’t bullshit a bullshitter and Sigga was pretty much a black-belt in that regard. And she had already been given quite the overt indication that she was dealing with a troublemaker. That didn’t mean she couldn’t play her own little game. The wrinkles in the corners of her eyes were a dead giveaway that she was only feigning her uncertainty.
Her peepers, cat-like, suddenly darted to the side as a hideously mischievous grin crossed her face. Quietly, on the off chance that the floating student didn’t have his ears clogged with water, Sigga whispered, “Maybe we should make sure…”
Another escalation. At least that was what the fish was suggesting. If the almond-eyed boy understood her unspoken thoughts and agreed with them, Sigga would join him in a synchronized double-cannonball as close to their mark as possible. She certainly wouldn’t attempt the feat all by herself.

As the stereotypical younger child, Paco was unaccustomed to (1) being the one having a trick played on him, and (2) seeing what his mischievous expression must often look like in the midst of his scheming - but there it was, clear as day on sea lady's face. 'Oh I like her.' There would be no question if he understood her intent, nor about his desire to participate. He had tried for all of about two-point-five seconds to be the responsible senpai who brought the rabble of bickering freshman under control into something productive. A respectable effort, if you asked him.
"Chibi-chan did hit pretty hard…" Feigned concern was betrayed by the laughter in his chestnut eyes, as he stepped back silently with one foot to get in position. With a nod, the athlete launched forward, his dry footsteps nearly silent on the hot pavement. Launching as high as he could possibly manage, the teen tucked his head down and brought his heels up, somersaulting into the showiest and most powerful cannonball he could muster, all the while keeping a careful eye on the underclassman.
SPLASH!
Landing just shy of the boy's left ear, water exploded into waves across the expanse of the pool. Assuming Sigga hadn't left him out to dry to look like a fool, and assuming their ploy had been successful, Mikael would hopefully be too thrashed about to notice Paco quickly change his form without even coming up for air. Diving a bit further down before promptly moving skyward once more, the second-year would attempt to grab the grey-haired lad's ankles - not to further drown him, of course, but rather to pull his legs around Paco's neck so that Mikael would be sitting atop his shoulders when he emerged. If Paco were successful, and were Mikael familiar with the children's game kibasen (which Paco had called chicken fight back home), the younger boy would immediately realize the precarious situation he was now in. They didn't really have the right number of people to do this properly, but it left him a vulnerable target nonetheless.
"Do you yield, chibi-chan?"

A few moments before the two successive “events” happened.
”What’s taking her so long? Is she on to me? Was this really not a good idea?”
Now, it’s not that Mikael was ignoring Paco. You see the timing of everything that happened before was such that he couldn’t notice that someone else had also joined in on the fun. He thought that the only person he was playing around with was the lady he had pushed into the water; also the one who had done the same to him.
Immersed in his thoughts, and still hoping that his plan would work, Mikael didn’t have the faintest idea what was about to happen. And then, it happened.
Two, almost simultaneous, “splashes”. He was caught off-guard and fell victim to the waves generated by both, swirling and swooshing along with the water, his fear had been realized: she was on to him. But it wasn’t just her.
Before he could really settle, he was grabbed by the ankles by what felt like someone else. Mikael was expecting fish-like skin but it wasn’t. Rather, it felt human-like skin. Off-balance by the water and now, on Paco’s shoulders. All he could muster was:
“Woah!”
”I give! I give! You guys win! Paco-san, when did you come in? And..”
Half expecting another “attack” Mikael immediately held on to Paco so that if he was thrown off, he would take Paco with him. He truly felt like a chibi in this situation; not only was he outnumbered but Paco, in comparison to him, was quite taller.
”...don’t do it!!”
He would yell immediately after grabbing on to Paco’s chin with a firm grip. Mikael thought that could spin him around if Paco decided to throw him into the water again. Unless, Paco was stronger and able to resist Mikael’s strength, which did seem like the case.
Realizing that he hadn’t even introduced himself to the fish-lady he was messing around with, he would wave at her and smile as innocently as possible:
”Yo! I’m Mikael Rogue from the 1-B hero course. Pleased to meet you.. hehe”
Obviously, an attempt to raise the white flag. He had lost this round of mischief but he hoped that he had won in making an “impression” and laying down the ground works for a friendship that lasted. After all, an aspiring hero would need as many friends as possible; especially, friends who also happened to be heroes.

It wasn’t perfectly synchronized and the girl wouldn’t haven’t gained any points for style but considering the binal bombing was completely unrehearsed and performed by two students that had only just met, the outcome was substantial. Sigga had leapt in only a split-second after her cohort, eyes shut tight. Her knees tucked in against her chest as her arms wrapped around her legs mid-air. Even her head and leg fins seemed to contract in anticipation of the resulting geyser.
Like an Unterseeboot drifting too close to navel depth charges, the formally motionless albino was suddenly reanimated by the dual strike. Water erupted in plumes, the resulting waves agitating all the swimming pool’s occupants. You could make out the brief appearance of a rainbow as the accompanying spray engulfed the air before settling back down to the surface in a hissing chorus.
Sigga’s eyes flitted open, spotting the movement of the other two teens through the turbulent waters. The mission had been a success! Despite her certainty that the miscreant had only been pretending to be lifeless, Sigga still felt a subtle sense of relief to see him move once again.
The girl unfolded her limbs like a starfish and swam back towards the surface. Or at least that’s what she thought she was doing until her dome bonked against the swimming pool’s floor. Ow, the fish thought, before reorienting herself. Hopefully nobody saw that. Sigga pushed off the floor and propelled herself back to the actual surface, breaching and taking in a much-needed breath of air.
To think that only minutes earlier her mind wouldn’t have allowed the water to go past her ankles, yet here she was devoid of any compunctions preventing the hypocrite from entering the pool in as flashy a manner as one could muster. At least her secret was safe. Not that it was a concern occupying Sigga’s thoughts anymore. The human totem rising out of water seemed far more interesting. Not one to miss taking advantage of any presented opportunity the fish clasped her hands together, squeezing an expertly aimed arc of water at the totem’s head. What? Was she supposed to just ignore this rather convenient hostage situation? Heresy!
The only way things could have entertained the teen more was if a fourth person engaged in the shenanigans so they could have an evenly-matched dual. To the death, of course!
Sigga eventually relented her water bombardment, though trying to not look too much like she was in good humor. It wouldn’t do to give off the air of a contrarian. She was supposed to be upset or something, right? Whatever.
Her feet quietly kept her afloat as the hostage begged for mercy before suddenly shifting gears to a casual introduction. She recognized the mop of grey hair now. Mikael was in her class. The other boy, however, was definitely not. Sigga would have remembered someone that tall.
“Tenod, Sigrid,” the sea creature said, her graze moving to the almond eyes of her partner-in-crime. Almost reluctantly, her voice lowered she added, “-also 1-B.” She was curious what class he was in. If the pattern of past encounters were to continue he’d probably be in 1-A.

A genuine bout of laughter was pulled from the second-year between Mikael's frantic pleas for mercy and his co-conspirator volleying shots of water at the boy in response, though it was stifled as a hand reached from behind to clasp his chin in a defensive maneuver. Paco's amusement remained evident in his almond eyes as Rogue switched gears into introductions, piquing the older boy's curiosity; the impish (and dare he say even flirtatious) nature of the scene he had walked in on had led Paco to believe the two other students knew each other. Curious, considering he knew Mikael to be in the hero course and his new companion seemed more than qualified for the same. Perhaps she were in 1-A, and the two classes hadn't had much chance to intermingle yet…
“Tendo, Sigrid… also 1-B.”
Curiouser and curiouser. It was still early in the year, he supposed, and first years had a tendency to be gun shy. All the same, whatever the circumstances regarding the relationship between the two younger students, Paco became elated at Sigrid's response, his eyes taking on a crafty sheen. First-year hero hopefuls were quickly becoming his favorite type of student to rub elbows with, as the possibilities of future implications had begun opening in his mind after his class with several of them.
"1-B! Well isn't that exciting!" He managed through Mikael's grip, before submerging himself and his captive once more in order to free the boy on top gently, honoring his truce. Re-emerging with a flip of his hair to keep his eyes clear, he followed suit with introductions as was only proper. "Francisco Idigoras, at your service… quite literally! Class 2-I, hero management." As always, his accent would become accentuated after saying his name, a poor linguistic habit he had yet to break. With as much of a bow as he could manage whilst treading water, he looked back at Sigrid coyly. "But everyone calls me Paco. It's my honor to make your acquaintance, Sigrid." Leaning back and using both arms and feet to keep afloat and aloof, he looked between the two underclassman with a satisfied grin. "I hope you've both found your first year at UA welcoming so far. I've heard a lot of good things about 1-B this year, glad to finally get to know you some."

Whether it came to a physical rebuttal or a ranged “water gun” attack, Sigrid was in her domain; and apparently Mikael wasn’t. As he helplessly struggled to stay on top of the tower that was Paco-san, he was at Sigrid’s mercy but that didn’t last long thankfully. The lesson was taught - he wasn’t the only mischievous one around.
Paco-san put him down on the water and he laid back, diving a bit and then floating back up. Introductions were concluded and everybody was soaked. This was surely a fun experience.
”Sorry Sigrid - I should’ve known we’re in the same class”
An apology was certainly owed. Did he not pay attention? How could she have slipped under the radar for Mikael? Some questions might never find an answer. But well, they “knew” each other now. Floating across the pool from where Paco was to the corner behind, Mikael didn’t interrupt as Paco answered Sigrid’s question. He knew Paco from the Media 101 class but he didn’t know which class he was from. It was good to know that he was a senior.
Aimlessly, a smirk retained on his face while the two briefly conversed. Another thought added to his happiness: he had discovered that Sigrid was pretty good with hand-to-hand combat. He looked forward to training with her and learning from her in the future. This was certainly an “experience” to say the least.
”It’s been pretty awesome. I always dreamed of going here - and I have to say, I’m not disappointed”, he replied to Paco’s question as he continued to float on the water surface aimlessly. His head bumped gently into the corner and with his hands, he pushed himself across the water - now floating towards the other corner where Sigrid was.
”Since we’re all introducing ourselves, why don’t we talk about our quirks? I’d like to know yours but let me go first about mine though: mine is magnetism. I can attract or repel any metallic object depending on the size as long as I hold my breath”
It would be good to know more about his class mate and senior. This wasn’t an aimless exercise. For Mikael, everything led to the singular objective of becoming a hero. As a person who loved working with people, he believed that the more he knew, the more effective he would be when (or if) the time came.

The longer she stayed in the water the more this swimming thing was proving to be far less of an obstacle than the fish had expected it to be. The gliding to and fro motion of Sigga’s slightly-oversized hands and feet continued to keep her afloat without the need of any conscious intervention on her part. It was almost as if her body had been meant for the water; had the innate physiological and psychological capabilities apposite to such an environment. Who’d a thunk it? So much for childhood trauma getting in the way.
With the armistice in full effect, her amber orbs flickered at the two teen’s responses to her tepid introduction. She couldn’t quite identify the accent Paco introduced himself with. Was that French or something? Clearly she wasn’t the only bilingual transfer attending UA, but at least her piscine appearance and flawless Japanese offered no obvious hints to her own background. Just the way she liked it.
Her expression betrayed the slightest hint of amusement at the second-year’s rather eloquent introduction. Whatever good things he had heard about 1-B probably didn’t involve her. As luck would have it, and Sigga definitely considered it a positive coincidence, she had enrolled at UA after the famous Sports Festival had concluded. It may have kept her from garnering any renown up-and-coming heroes sought in order to secure one of those lavish internships, but that hardly was a priority for the girl.
Sigga was about to offer an affable grin as a wordless reply to the praise Paco gave her class, though that intent was stifled by Rogue-san’s apology. Unbeknownst to the others, the fish didn’t particularly care to be the target of apologies. Specifically ones that she felt weren’t owed. And this hadn’t been the first time a first-year seemed to be under the impression they had performed some sort of perceived slight against her.
The girl simply shrugged. She hadn’t immediately recognized him either, despite being in the same class. For that matter, she wasn’t particularly knowledgeable on most of her classmates. Though not an introvert, Sigga didn’t usually go out of her way to socialize with those in 1-B. It was part of her low-key plan of staying out of trouble. Not that she was expecting trouble, but hero students tended to attract it and there was no chance in hell she was going to find herself wrapped up in something that would see her flow back to juvie in ‘Merica.
As her grey-haired classmate began to speak, actually going so far as to providing Paco with an actual verbal reply unlike the fish, Sigga drifted over to the side of the pool around him. Just because the teen wasn’t overweight didn’t mean she was particularly fit relative to most of the other students at UA. That knowledge was a source of dissatisfaction and quiet shame, but knowing her own stamina was as modest as it was meant she was aware of her limits. Spare time was often spent lounging rather than exercising and, though she wasn’t about to exhaust herself from only being in the pool for a couple minutes, there wasn’t any point in constantly kicking to keep herself afloat during the conversation.
Sigga pulled herself out of the water once more, and sat on its edge like before. The hot summer sun had already begun on drying the slouching fish as she focused on the sudden change in topic. “Eh?” the student expressed her curiosity at her classmate’s quirk. “You ever use it to move a coin back and forth through a vending machine for extra credit?” It was impossible for her to not consider self-serving ways one could utilize a quirk, legal or otherwise. Of course, this was just a couple of teenagers talking hypotheticals.
As per yuzh Sigga was quick to draw attention to the more overt side of her Quirk. Her fingers gestured to the pairs of slits running along her swimsuit near her lower ribs. “I can breathe underwater,” she said with a boastful grin. This wasn’t actually something the fish was proud of, but pretending so helped mask the true nature of her dual Quirk. Her fingers traced around the slits in the swimsuit before parking themselves above one of them. There didn’t seem to be anything of interest shown until her fingers gently tugged the skin upward to reveal the formerly hidden purple flesh. Her gill kind of looked like a giant papercut.
The boys were only given a brief glimpse before Sigga’s fingers let go of her skin and the opening vanished as if it had only been an illusion. Hopefully that demonstration would be enough to sate their curiosity. There wasn’t any need to go into detail on this particular ability, like mentioning the fact it felt like getting waterboarded any time she actually used her gills.
The bald student didn’t usually bring up the subject of Quirks herself, but since they were already discussing the topic her gaze turned to the only one who had yet to offer any tantalizing details. Sigga’s amber peepers looked expectantly at Paco.

As the trio engaged in the compulsory act of introductions, Paco weighed the responses of his new acquaintances; it seemed the two freshmen could not be more different. Mikael had caught the management student's attention early on, as he had a loveable and childlike personality that would certainly garner the attention of the media one day - one he feared would be manipulated, ironic though it was for Paco of all people to be concerned about that. He would be easy to get to know, and likely delightful to have around even if it did seem like trouble was likely to follow his naivety. The second year gushed over the grey-haired student's explanation of his quirk, "Oh that's cool, you've got a ton of versatility-- wait. Hold your breath? Man you really tried to play like you were drowning out here, tch!" As he shook his head teasingly at Rogue, he couldn't help but burst out with a one-note laugh at Sigrid's first thought of the quirk's utility before stifling it to at least attempt to look like a good example.
Then there was Sigrid, the brooding yet feisty rebel whose trust it seemed would be difficult to win, and only moreso the more she spoke. The second year bit his tongue as he felt it dancing on his teeth at the piscine's rather vague description of her quirk, the only betrayal of his doubt being the crookedness of the smile he offered in response. UA often saw the potential of quirks that others did not, true. However, passing their entrance exam with a simple water breathing quirk seemed… well, out of the ordinary. "And I thought for sure it would be that you could fly," he would respond with a shrug and a snap, testing the boundaries of the sea-lady's sense of humor.
"No but genuinely, those are incredible. No wonder I've heard such good things about your class. Good, solid quirks and looks like good, solid people to back them up. And pardon my frankness, but management students think about these things - they're attractive quirks, too. You guys should have no problem getting ahead once UA is done with you." His gaze caught hold of Sigrid amber orbs, and with feigned surprise followed up with a hand to his collar, "Oh, yeah, sorry. I basically have enhanced intelligence, particularly strategic intelligence." As much as Paco reveled in showing off his quirk and talking about himself, he was self-aware enough to know how pompous it made him sound to just talk about it, so he kept it short and looked for a way to change subject. "Nothing flashy, or as exciting as you guys. Harder to market than you would think, too."
Though his legs continued to glide through the water to keep him afloat, the over-active teen began doing little circles to keep his body busy while they talked. "Humor me if you would, since you two are going to be working together as classmates but don't seem like you've had much chance to get to know each other and this seems like it'll be a good thing for you to know about each other. Last compulsory question: why do you wanna be heroes?"

“I can fly!” the girl balked back at Paco, feigning offence. “How do you think I got to Japan?” She said this with an unwavering frown as if her having the power of flight should never have been questioned in the first place. Obviously, Sigga made no effort to mention her power of flight required an appropriate airliner along with pilot, co-pilot, and relevant crew. You didn’t have to be particularly astute to figure out Sigga’s assertion for what it was. That said, the girl knew well enough that even an absurd claim like hers was capable of sowing seeds of doubt. For why shouldn’t she have the power of flight? Dual quirks were not so rare as to be unheard of, and one unfamiliar with the fish’s Quirk’s true nature knew there was always the slim chance the picene side of her Quirk drew inspiration from flying fish known to frequent warm ocean waters. Sigga’s eyes narrowed the slightest bit as the compliment the hero-management student paid Mikael and herself. There was a slight smile to go along with her suspicious glance, however. She wasn’t about to be so easily twisted around his finger with some well-rehearsed platitudes, though the remark didn’t estrange her first impression of him either. Paco’s admission to having an intelligence enhancing Quirk, however, took her by surprise. On one hand, it further cemented some of her initial wariness of him. The excessive flattery coupled with intelligence could easily have hinted at the manipulative mind of a sociopath. On the other hand, a sociopath wouldn’t be likely to be so forthcoming with the nature of their Quirk. Especially if it was intelligence enhancing. Despite the fish’s vigilant attitude towards strangers, her mind couldn’t help itself but classify the charismatic character before her as an ally. As someone who spent her life embroiled in deceit, Sigga generally was decent at reading people. She clearly lacked the insight to realize how many of her own actions, past and present, suggested sociopathic tendencies. But then again, how many people ever realized the hypocrisy of their own behavior? When the final question was asked, her subtle grin faded completely. Fortunately, the phony pretender managed to immediately transition into a look of curiosity that turned toward Mikael. She’d allow for him to answer first, giving her time to come up with her own reply. Maybe even allow her to usurp his. It wasn’t like she didn’t have an answer, though. She had lied countless times before about her motives for attending UA. Oddly enough, each time her answer changed a little. And it became more and more difficult to respond in a manner that seemed sincere. Like, what the heck?! Was her conscience trying to overthrow her personality matrix or something? Maybe spending so much time with all these goody-two-shoes was finally starting to have a profound effect on her. Worst of all she didn’t know how she felt about these changes. Well, other than the fact that lying about her reason for trying to become a hero was making her feel a little scummy. The pool tickled her toes as she swished her feet about. That familiar feeling of trepidation had returned, distracting the sunbathing fish. She looked down at the water, momentarily forgetting about the others in her company. What was wrong with her? She had voluntarily jumped into the pool not minutes earlier, yet here she was again. Hesitant at the thought of even sitting at the water’s edge. Was that perceived mental breakthrough a fluke or something? Before she could finish breaking down the peculiarity of this mental wall her mind kept rebuilding on the subject of the pool, her turn to answer Paco’s question had arrived. “Oh shoot!” Sigga suddenly exclaimed in mock horror. “I was meant to be meeting my councilor five minutes ago!” Her desire to continue their social repartee had been swiftly quashed. Paco’s innocent question and her constant distraction by the original purpose for which she came to the swimming pool had elected the bald student’s following goal. Escape. She’d still have to deal with the pool in P.E. class tomorrow. But one problem at a time. Without so much as offering a farewell to her classmates, Sigga took off. So committed was she to making a quick exit that she didn’t even notice the three earrings that had been on her head fin were no longer there. [Exit Thread]
