| And as quickly as the buzzer had gone off, the Villain Bots were upon the collective body of UA's first year. The terrifying droning synced activation of hundreds of different bots across the combat scenario whirring to life entered the ears of about every student. Almost like a warcry that was damning for those without a strong wills. Without a drive to push beyond the war cry of the enemy. Was it hopeless? To some it truly was, for just like every year the first event would eliminate hundreds of students collectively throughout each of the individual years. Almost immediately it became readily apparent that all of the bots that were streaking out of the side alleys were standard Victory Bots, standard one point worth units. There just must've been at least thirty to forty of the damn things making the first wave of the assault.
And to meet them would be the charging portion of UA's first year student body. Whether intelligent or not, this was the subset of academic learners that had deemed it wisest to try and get in the fray to tear up as much as they could possibly get their hands on. It was only natural a couple bit off more than they could chew, but a more terrifying opponent became recognized not too long into the beginning of the match and would be cause of the first "HERO DOWN!" to be shouted over the loud speakers. The moment happened so fast as from a nearby buildings rooftop a pearlescent white Marauder Bot streaked across the surface of the structure it moved upon and took aim towards one of the front-lining students who'd been quickly racking up points. Using some sort of plastic generation quirk the student was surfing around using his socks to slide smoothly on the plastic, and then spearing victory bots. This enigma of a Marauder just watched for one... Two... Three and then BANG!
A deafening blast echoed as a condensed soundwave raced towards the student and hit him with enough force to send him tumbling head over heels over his plastic structure, landing on the ground and quickly being subdued by the daunting front-line. This was just the first of the casualties, morale immediately breaking at the sign of the terrifying catch in this first part of the scenario. The shots continued to streak out, some of the students tried to run for cover while others tried to rush the marauder. One student even managed to get to the bot with a quirk that allowed them to infinitely jump regardless of if there was ground beneath them or not. Though this things capabilities were more than just sniping. Bringing out a padded blade, it thwacked the student with an uncanny reaction time and sent him flying off of the building. The student went careening down four stories and just as he was about to hit the ground something blurred across the street from alley to alley and caught them. Despite being caught, now out of sight the speakers blared. "HERO DOWN!"
Over and over the sound went off as a terrifying opponent suppressed the students defending front line and some enigma lurked in the back. Did the students go for the wavemaker Marauder-Class up above? Did they try to gain new ground with better cover to avoid being sitting ducks? Did they try flanks? Perhaps they might even investigate that flash of movement. If that was a bot, Hideki-senpai must've been cackling like a madman as he performed the final touches on the construct. Other than those two there were no other advanced bots to speak of, the battlefield was just one of programmed automatons versus primarily inexperienced students. A losing battle unless some key strategic thinking was applied to the circumstance, left in the hands of the very same students at that disadvantage.
Though another outlier was a civilian. Just one single civilian letting out a robotic shrill 'WHIIIIIIIIIIIRRRR' as it zigzagged down the street towards the hill with both arms raised in the air as it ran desperately from three Victory-Class bots. Whatever lied beyond that initial field of view was unknown, it would be ultimately up to those with the ability to learn more about the current situation to relay that to the rest so they can truly know what they're up against.
Just like other years, the penalty for being a victim of the "HERO DOWN!" broadcast is only receiving a third of your accumulated points. What good is a Hero over the rest of their lifetime if they were to get themselves recklessly killed in one moment?
This was it. Sharpen your minds, hone your techniques.
Go beyond your limits. |

When everything was thought to be lost...
“We have to play nice”
In his opinion, Itsuka always played nice, it wasn’t his fault Kosei was such a royal bastard who managed to push all the wrong buttons. And he couldn’t just lay there and take it from that man could he? No, he had to at least try and make it even.
Ugh, look at that face.
The ex pro hero caught sight of the redhead’s smug look on his face when he corrected himself on Kosei’s name, this was exactly why this villainous asshole was exactly that with no hope of redemption. Even if he wasn’t breaking the law per se by being a dick, it didn’t change that he was annoying him and clearly taking pleasure from it too.
Itsuka took a deep breath, closing his eyes before opening them again slowly, a rainbow of colour flashing across them as he activated his quirk. He watched as U.A’s newest rising stars walked onto the field and prepared to set out. He recognised some of them from his classes, well, he probably saw all of them from his classes but he only really remembered the ones that caught his attention in one way or another. At the same time, he subtly delivered a kick to the shin of the overgrown giant who was next to him under the small table placed in front of them, upping his damage output just a little (...little like 70% power) with his quirk, just as payback for the smug look moments before.
“Yeah well...heroes need to play to their strengths in co op like this…only idiots would try and do everything when you have teammates.”
The short man shrugged as his eyes went to the screen. The starting signal blared, and the kids sprung to action...but one.
“...Huh. The hell is Himura S doing?”
He raised a brow as he watched the young girl lay herself down on the floor in a bizarre turn of events.
“...get meds there, see what’s up with her and get her moved before she gets squashed.”
He said to the offscreen staff, his expression not really changing but thinking about it now, he could remember getting a note about how this particular girl had been ill and in hospital before so should probably play stuff safe. It wouldn’t be great to have a kid crushed by bots, afterall, for everyone’s sake.
“So...first years...what you gonna do now, huh?”
He could see on one screen some of 1-A were talking to each other as already some kids were getting themselves out of the tournament.
we remembered what we really wanted to protect

Well things were starting to get interesting, finally. For the most part. It really depended entirely on what the third years would choose to do with the situation they were placed into. It was always more humorous to watch first years simply because they were gungho until they fell into the ring then they scampered about like scared rabbits. He was 1-B homeroom teacher so, of course, he was a little biased in who he hoped would excel though he knew that the media had a tendency to fixate on 1-A. Not a huge issue, that usually just meant 1-A was a bunch of show-boating imbeciles (which he was grateful not to have to deal with often, instead he just got stuck with the weird kids). "Ow. Shit." He practically yelped (quite embarrassingly into the comms), but he didn't care that he was cussing into live audience, "You son of a...what the hell?" He growled pushing the mic aside by the end, nursing his shin. It was always unexpected when he felt any kind of pain or impact, as it only came when he wasn't expecting it. Slowly, and with the patience of a monk, he swallowed the desire to throttle the stupid bastard.
The tension in the air between him and the asshole seated beside him was practically palpable despite that. Of course, he hadn't been helping much by baiting the idiot by being snarky. Itsuka just made it so easy, but usually it was that jackass that was starting things. It was only appropriate that he get him back for once. "There are likely to be a lot of idiots, lucky for us." Made it easier for them to commentate.
"And speaking of idiots.." He snorted as the other man commented on the girl literally laying down before things had even started. "Certainl an interesting tactic, I suppose. Must be 1-A if she's still in the school." He himself didn't know the girl and Itsuka throwing out her name didn't ring any bells. Maybe it was part of her quirk? They were bound to see some strange ones, right? It was curious to see Itsuka react for once with almost adult concern, he didn't figure the other capable of that. With a collection of loud bangs and explosions he finally return his attention to the action, let the games begin then. And hopefully end before he threw Meka out the window.

WORD COUNT 800
Tag @1-A | @1-B
| The whole time that he'd been there, Hyousuke had been making plans for himself, and himself alone. He knew that he'd have to fight alongside other students on some level, but as a proper, cohesive team, with an actual strategy? It'd never occurred to him that anyone would actually want to. So when Chiura came to him, bearing that look in her eye and that tone in her voice, it caught him off guard. He jumped a little, initially unable to respond properly to what she was proposing, but he managed to pull himself together quickly enough. "Lure them into a corner? So you're saying that I'd be bait?" He had to admit, it didn't sound like an appealing proposal at first. But the more he thought about it - and it was quite obvious he was, given the look on his face - the more it sounded viable. He had enough endurance to run and keep running, so as long as he kept ahead of the pack, he could take them wherever he wanted and still keep fighting. It also solved another of his problems - how he was going to take out any of the robots in the first place. Without a weapon, he was dead in the water before things even started. Painful though it was to admit it, he needed help. He figured that he'd only get partial points if he was acting as bait and didn't actually take any of them out himself, but as things stood, it was a far better prospect than getting no points at all because he couldn't fire lasers out of his palms. His expression turned to one of determination, and with a slight smirk on his lips, he pounded his knuckles into his palm. "Just don't leave me hanging too long. Wouldn't want me to hog all the fun."Before he could ask about more of her strategy, however, his attention was caught by Ryu. Turning to face him, Hyousuke listened intently, considering what he could bring to the table. Given the time limit that Ryu apparently had, perhaps teaming up with someone that could keep going until the heat death of the universe could prove advantageous. He began to mutter quietly, holding his chin between his fingers. "Maybe if we got them all bunched up in one area, and hit them hard enough, we could-" Before Hyousuke could finish his thought, however, Ryu called out to someone else - Fu, he believed her name was, though he wasn't too sure. He kept silent for that, deciding to let Ryu handle it. When it came to fighting, Hyousuke actually had a clue, but people? People were confusing and changed on a whim. Better to let somebody a bit more personable handle them. Not that he had much of a choice soon after, though - his attention was caught by the event starting proper. His eyes flitted over the battlefield, trying to take everything in before he ran off. His first instinct had been to dart forward, fists raised and slamming into the first tin soldier he could find, but for once in his life, he stayed his hand. His instincts screamed at him to get stuck in, but he knew better by this point. Time and again he'd rushed into fights, only to get tossed around like a ragdoll for his troubles. Fists clenched and teeth grit, he observed, eyes flitting about the battlefield as he tried to get a handle on the situation. He was glad that he did not seconds later, when he saw something dash across the rooftop, and heard a voice call out "HERO DOWN!" Startled, Hyousuke stepped back, his gaze focussing on the Marauder up top. "Sniper!" He shouted. "Get to cover! Break its line of sight!" He hadn't faced that particular enemy before, but his solo training had seen him fight something similar. Making his way down a street, taking cover before he could get shot - it wasn't new to him. Slight as it was, he had some idea of how to face this. But even that soon faded when he saw someone being flung off the roof. Getting in close wasn't an option. Between them all, he wasn't sure if anyone had enough firepower to take it out from afar. From what he knew of Ryu, perhaps he could be durable enough to take it at close range, but it was a gamble at best - and they'd need him for bigger enemies. Hyousuke was all but certain that the one on the roof wouldn't be the last big foe they'd face, nor the strongest. "Damn it... Long as that thing's there, we're gonna keep getting picked off! Maybe if someone could catch its attention and keep it still long enough for someone else to take it out..." |

Post by Ren Wolff on Sept 26, 2019 4:55:19 GMT
Before long other students began to join Ren along the edge of the platform, most of which were talking amongst themselves as they came up with their own strategies on how to approach the challenge before them. Daiki's idea was a simple but effective one; although one of the key ideas of the sports festival was to stand out, this first event was, by nature, a cooperative affair. By forming into small groups, they could both work together and still draw a decent amount of individual attention. That all made sense. His classmate's next suggestion was a bit more interesting though, asking both Ren and Jun to join him for the task. The three of them had some pretty potent abilities, and together there wouldn't likely be much that could stop them. However... It wasn't that Ren had any problems with Jun, but they'd learned in class that their quirks didn't tend to play nicely together most of the time. His heated counterpart did make a decent point about potential synergy though. "We do kind of get in each other's way when we're close, so maybe we play it loose and meet up when we need a recharge? Other than that, I don't mind-"
Before he could finish the sentence, the starting buzzer interrupted him and the whole field went alive with mechanical whirring. Ren hadn't been ready for it, and soon found himself separated from the others; standing alone among a crowd of students that were rushing out into the simulated city. "HERO DOWN!" Almost immediately the alert blared out, and then again a moment later. Already? Ren blinked, his senses not quite keeping up with what had happened. He could feel his heart beat rising and a familiar feeling of tension took hold of his body, but.... this wasn't anything like the incident a few months back. This was nothing compared to that, he told himself as he shook the last of the nerves away. Glancing back and forth Ren tried to get a grasp on the hectic situation, but after a moment his eyes locked onto a familiar figure in the crowd, laying on the ground in the middle of the chaos.
Fu?
His heart nearly skipped a beat at the sight and he started to move. The girl had only just recently gotten out of the hospital and god knew what sort of lingering dangers her condition could have. So he rushed over as quickly as he could, weaving through the mass of students before coming to kneel down at her side. "Hey, are you alright Fu? Do I need to get..." He trailed off as he finally got a decent look at her. At first glance she didn't seem to be any worse for wear and... was that music he heard? Leaning down a bit more he could make out the earbuds in place and the situation became more clear. The initial reaction was a sigh of relief, but that quickly gave way to a slightly conflicted expression. So if she wasn't sick, was she just... giving up again? He remembered the message she'd left when she'd gone into surgery with clarity, remembered the struggles and insecurities she'd spoken about, and all of the memories that they'd dredged up for him. At the time he couldn't do anything but regret that he didn't do more to help his friend... maybe now was the time to do something about that.
Ren flinched as the sound of a shot rang out behind him, another "HERO DOWN!" call over the speakers bringing him back to the situation at hand. With a quickly glance over his shoulder and a wave of his hand, a frozen wall rose up to cover him from the sharp-shooting bot in the distance. Another scan around let him recover his wits and truly take in his surroundings for the first time. The first years were engaging the encroaching wave of bots with mixed results. Most of them appeared to be the same sort of machines they'd seen in the entrance exams and hero classes, but there were a few like the Marauder that seemed a bit more intimidating. They'd be the real challenge here, wouldn't they? Well, one problem at a time. For now it seemed that the engagements were pretty well spread out over the surrounding areas, but... yeah, there was a good spot. "C'mon Fu, you picked a real bad place to take a nap." He took his friend's hand and pulled her up with him as he rose, not really giving her much of a choice in the matter as he began dragging her off toward a currently vacant alleyway to the east. A pair of victory bots moved to block the boy's path, but a quick stomp would send spires of ice bursting out of the ground beneath them, and he would continue forward without delay.
Ducking into the cover of the narrow passage, Ren couldn't help but notice another loud crack as a student only a dozen feet away was struck by a sudden wave of force from the Marauder. That thing would definitely need to be dealt with, but there was another matter that needed addressing first, something more important that some stupid publicity stunt. Finally letting Fu go, the blonde turned to face her again, his golden eyes locking firmly on her own to make sure he had her attention before he started to speak. "Just tell me one thing. Do you want to be a hero Fu? I don't care if you don't think that you have what it takes, or that your quirk isn't good enough, and I definitely don't care what other people think about you or your family. All the matters here is whether or not you want it. Some part of you has to, right? You've had plenty of opportunities to leave and pick another path, but even after all that happened you still came back to the class. I know I've said this a lot, but you are a lot stronger than you think you are, and I'm not talking about your quirk. Not everyone can go through what you did and come out the other side. There's a lot more to being a hero than flashy powers, and I know you have the potential." He reached out and put a hand on her shoulder, forcing a soft smile despite the sounds of combat all around them. "So it's up to you, understand? You can do this if you want to, and even if you think you can't do it alone, you've got plenty of people around who will support you. I've always got your back, I promise." He kept his hand in place even as he finished and didn't let his gaze waver from her eyes at all. He wasn't letting her get out of this one so easily, not after she'd come this far, and if he had to go the extra mile to get the message across, then so be it.

Fu paid little to no attention to what was occurring. She was only somewhat aware of the giant robots that were being used for this publicity stunt. Every damn year it was an unrealistic scenario after another. Giant robots? Something that they'll face daily for sure. Not something to make the school look good. Or to show off how good and better the quirks are for kids that attend U.A. Show how superior they are to the rest of Japan. Oh no, it was just to prepare them got the real hero work. This school was a terrible place and sometimes Fu wondered why she was there. She would do a lot better in other hero programs but she was determined. Determined not to prove the school wrong but rather to point out the issues she saw in the place. She knew she won't would be there for long if she continued but she is going to make sure she'll make noise. Maybe the school will realise how unfair they set up everything for people who aren't combat oriented. All these thoughts swamped her mind when her music was suddenly was interrupted by a classmate. RenBefore she could protest, she was dragged up by her hand and taken to an alleyway. She ignored the robots and beeps as the stupid event continued. Eventually being in the safer area, she pressed the pause button on her music. She liked Ren and she was not going to be an annoyance to someone she considered her best friend. Giving him a soft smile, she somewhat nodded in agreement. If she really wanted to leave U.A., she would have. She puked in her first ever class and she didn't leave. She was left out of the first hero course plan by her class and left the class. Yet, she still did not leave U.A. She was struck down by cancer and she did not leave the school. She was still here. "I just feel mistreated...There is no way I can contribute to this event even if I use my quirk to the best of my availability. The scores can't tell if I'm contributing. I want to be a hero but if the best hero school in the country doesn't know how to handle anyone with a non-combat quirk or super obvious quirk, what's the point?" Fu sighed before peering over at the chaos going on. "I'll help but I know it won't be noticed..." Fu muttered, watching some of the robots fight the students. "This is so stupid." Fu said, watching the robots while putting her earphone back in.

And all too quickly the fight started, and all too quickly tons of students rushed forward, trying to meet the onrushing bots. Which would be fine, but without a proper defensive line… Isamu frowned as he surveyed the fight from his perch. Of course it had been too much to expect that they’d be able to organize a whole year’s worth of students perfectly, but he’d hoped for at least a little bit of strategy. Oh well.
He nodded to Avery as she volunteered to do recon. “Good. We need more information on what we’re dealing with, and as long as none of the robots fly, that should give us an advantage. But for right now help keep an eye on our surroundings. We don’t want the robots breaking through our defenses—” and right as he said that a shot rang out, and the cry of “HERO DOWN!” came from the loudspeakers. He saw it before Hyousuke had a chance to call it out, but called out his own warning in time with the other student. “That’s a Marauder bot. Everyone, get down!” he called to anybody still around him at the top of the hill and still listening. He watched as a second student attempted to charge it, only to be swatted easily out of the air. So it had ranged attacks as well as a sword. That meant simply getting in close wasn’t a guarantee of dealing with it by getting inside its sniper range. To be expected from one of the most highly-scored robots in the event. “We need ranged attacks! Attack from cover to keep it distracted! We either need to take it out at range or distract it long enough for someone to close in from behind!” Easier said than done, but they couldn’t keep throwing bodies =at it for it to just take them out one by one.
And if that wasn’t enough, there was another complication to the confusing melee. A civilian bot running down the street, arms flailing, being chased by several more enemy bots. “Someone get that civilian behind our lines! Back them up and stall the chasers to buy it more time! Get everyone to fall back and form a defensive line before we get overrun. Did anyone see where Wolff got to? We could use some battlefield control with those walls of his.”
In between trying to keep track of the flow of the fight and hopefully keep them from getting overrun, he was trying to communicate with the other class reps and vice reps, trying to listen as well as shouting orders, discussing strategy and trying to establish a real base of operations so they could respond to the unforeseen—such as a nasty marauder bot showing up—more effectively.

All too soon did things started happening. Jun hesitated when he heard the first few hero downs. That fast? And it wasn't long before a higher end bot started shooting up the place. Hyousuke was the first to say it, but Isamu was there too. He dived behind cover and peeked over to see where it was at. He wasn't close enough yet. Then a civilian bot was running away from a trio of other bots as well. Doing some quick looks, he could do it then. If Daiki or Ren can finish them off, then it'll work.
Running between the two main opponents, he was aiming to get close enough to the marauder bot to start giving his own suppressing fire, and stun the other three. Electricity surged around his left arm, and the blond whipped out that arm towards the trio of victory bots. A stream of electricity whipped out in an attempt to stun them just long enough for Ren, Daiki, or even someone else to finish them off and get the civilian bot to safety. The civilian bot was in no danger of getting electrocuted, despite what it initially looked like.
Then he set his sights on the sniper. He ducked and weaved, even did a dive roll, and quickly darted to the left. And fired two fire balls at the bot. It and the area it was in was just inside his range now. Even if he just forced it to change position, it was give time to reorganize. Still, he took another few steps toward it at an angle, and barraged it with another four fire balls, and split his attention back towards the civilian bot and the Victory bots.
If no one had taken those victory bots down yet, he'd try to stun them again with another blast of electricity. Though he'd rather not use that half too much so early on...

I'M NOT IN LOVE don't have the time Call it a crime to find everything I need in me. The event's start was anything but motivational. Torami grimaced as alerts went off, announcing the failure of the unfortunate. Surely she would not let herself join them, right? What was she doing? Peers took to the fray left and right, but Torami stood awkwardly. Even Fu found a place, though she was reluctant. Tora had to make her move-- she was already here, she couldn't just give in now. Just then, the caterwaul of Suzuki's planning caught her attention. She didn't know him well, but was familiar and somewhat comfortable around him. So the tall lass tentatively lurched towards him, pausing beside him. Now that she couldn't go back, Tora cleared her throat and collected herself. "Suzuki." Started she, mainly making her presence clear before taking a moment to decide how she'd continue. "Is there any way I can help?" Simple. Short. Her tone lacked confidence, but was still genuine. It bothered her to depend on someone else for answers; she figured the cooperative nature of the event made it acceptable. "My quirk is... hardly useful in combat, but I can scout or distract bots, maybe." Tora had no clue how the enmity of these bots worked. If she possessed a bird, would a huge robot even notice it? Would she be able to find any animal in this urban battleground? There was really only one way to find out. Seeking a 'victim' may be more work than she'd like, but if she was going to be any help, it would be necessary. After speaking to Isamu, regardless of what his answer was, Torami would immediately scope out where she could find a suitable host. With hope, the location would be generally safe, too. Laying unconscious in the epicenter of an epic showdown would not be good.
