“Event Number One!”
| “One of our most ambitious events to date, using forty percent of Ground Beta! We’ve had some state of the art robots constructed to put our students up against. While we will be utilizing the conventional mechs you might recognize from previous Festivals, you will additionally see constructs of the likes you’ve never seen before courtesy of our very own faculty member, more easily recognized as Hijack! Consider Armageddon like… King of the Hill meets wave defense! Three sequences, one of each year starting with the first and ending with the third. The entire student body of a given year starts at the top of the hill, and it is their job to try and reclaim as much territory around them as possible while still maintaining the territory they own. A visual assistant will be viewable from mobile devices and at home to indicate which zones are under student control and which are under ‘villain’ control, for the sake of immersion of course!
Of course, this by itself rates the students as a whole, but it doesn’t tell you who’s smarter. Who’s faster. Who holds the strongest willpower. Who’s the quietest, or the most creative. What does however is our point assigning system. Students will need to find a healthy balance between maintaining the longevity of the scenario while upping their points as being too selfish will leave defensive holes or expose risk to the student of being taken out of the fight! So long as the hill territory remains intact all is go, but as soon as it’s been taken the scenario is over. If it is not taken in one hour it will also conclude. Here is how points will be assigned to students.
BASIC Takedown Rewards Victory Bot: 1 point Imperial Bot: 2 points Venator Bot: 3 points Executor Bot: 15 points
ADVANCED Takedown Rewards Allegiance Bot: 5 points Acclamator Bot: 10 points Marauder Bot: 15 points Nemesis Bot: Who knows!
Eliminated Villain Bots will have their points distributed amongst the students who assisted in taking it down equally. In the case of decimals they will be included in the score, so no need to worry about that! This assistance carries over to any information that assisted in the takedown of the specifics robots. Recon has a use as well! Students, use any edge you can get to win! Moving on, did we forget to mention we’ve rolled out a line of proper Civilian bots? In total there will be one hundred Civilian Bots scattered in the different territories surrounding the hill. They will mostly be in an ‘unconscious’ or powered down state, but some will be active.
All Civilian Bots earn the student(s) 3 points each when the area around them is cleared. All Civilian Bots earn the student(s) 10 points each when they are evacuated to the hill territory. Information leading to the discovery and rescue of a Civilian Bot also allows the informant to receive these points as well. However losing a Civilian Bot will deduct 15 points from each student involved. There is a lift at the hill territory that may be used to 100% evacuate the Civilian Bots, if they have not gone down that lift and hill territory is overtaken by Villain Bots, those that assisted in evacuating and clearing the area of these bots will have 15 points deducted.
Moving on to our final point acquisition category; capturing territories. Each territory will have a different point value assigned to it based on size, threat level and potential civilian bot population and will be rewarded on a case by case basis. It will also be determined based on distance from hill territory. Consider captured points as ‘soft points’, considering if they are overtaken by the enemy the students lose the points they gained from capturing it, and must retake it again. In general, territories range from providing 10-85 points when captured, and their benefits are distributed equally among the students assisting in capturing the point.
Once the scenario concludes, points will be tallied up and those that carry on to the next event will be announced! One third of those participating will be knocked out in Armageddon!”
And almost on queue, down below the students are put in motion. Set on a massive underground lift, a volunteer pushed a simple button and the rumbling of the device churning to lift over a hundred students over its wide area could be heard throughout ground beta and by the crowd. Peaking just over the precipice were classes 1-A, 1-B and 1-H. Gadgets, flashy quirks, all the things that gets a crowd excited to see what happens. Given the dense urban environment, multiple devices and monitors exist throughout the venue to give inside angles to the audience so there's never a dull moment. Armageddon had commenced, specifically slot 1 of 3 timeslots running from 11AM - 2PM, this one from 11AM-12PM. A map is shown on screen for all to see.
((EVENT UNLOCKS ON SEPTEMBER 1ST, 2019. Broadcasters will post after event manager to give a more flared IC review of what transpired. For the first post, get creative with what your character does and says! If there are multiple broadcasters, both post before students post for that order. Feel free to prepare posts in advance, just copy/paste them when the event starts. This initial post counts as an EM post, so Kosei Shiba and Itsuka Meka are up next.))

When everything was thought to be lost...
SPORTSYAY!
\o/
Itsuka found himself sitting in the Broadcaster’s booth for some absurd reason. His outer expression did not betray him, keeping his trademark deadpan, lightly bored looking gaze but inside he was completely confuddled as to why anyone in U.A thought this was a good idea. He wasn’t good at talking in general, publically even less so. Even back when he was in a hero unit, someone else did the interviews and all those flashy things, he usually left the scene ASAP or even when it was essential for him to be there, he just stood where he was told in silence. It was the best for everyone involved that way. He didn’t become a hero to become Japan’s top idol, he simply wasn’t suited to such a role. Maybe whoever decided this was the same person who put him in charge of a homeroom. Most likely. And to make matters worse, the same genius had decided putting the villainous bastard on air with him was a great idea. On second thoughts, maybe it was because they had lucked out, none of the teachers seemed really willing to take on this role and as himself and Kosei were not present at the staff meeting that assigned these roles, they got the short straws. “...s’ not that much bigger… only 15% bigger than last year…”He muttered as the way too noisy announcer explained the details of the whole mechanics of the first event. “We’ve done a civ rescue lesson recently...if the kids can’t clear this then they really suck…”Itsuka could remember watching U.A Sports Day coverages on TV, sizing up his competition for when they met at Provisional License exams, watching every small mistake, every lapse of concentration, every fuck up each esteemed, “elite” U.A student made. This year, probably thousands of children were doing the same. So in all, he hoped the first years would give it their all and remember all the things they had learnt up till now. “...I’d take down one of each bot see which one is most effective to take down loads of...I guess… and have some at civ protection duty...take down the highest point areas first cos they are prob most vulnerable if this was RL…”To be honest, he could see that taking down few more smaller areas would be more point gain effective, but with the kind of person he was… he’d want to save the most people. It was fine, if they could overpower each area fast enough, it would mitigate the loss of going for smaller, easier to take areas. It just meant everyone had to be ...maybe it was to no one’s surprise but his own that he had ended up the way he did with this sort of thought process. “What would you do, C-... Shiba?”He had been nagged by admin to watch his language so he was on his best behavior, even though calling the redhead by his actual name felt weird and unsettling, as if they were colleagues or teammates, or, the worst one, friends. we remembered what we really wanted to protect

I journey through the desert Of the mind with no hope / I follow / I drift along the ocean / Dead lifeboat in the sun / And come undone
TAG @uapeeps @itsuka-jerk WORDS some words NOTES no.
| This was some kind of sadistic joke, right?
Somehow it was at least a very ironic one considering who he was and who he used to be. It was only a few years ago he might have been watching this stupid festival on a stolen tv somewhere with very different kinds people, making fun of this shitshow of epic proportions. Watching heroes flex and give away all their weaknesses on live television like a paid reality show or beauty pageant. And now here he was the voice of it all, in the background and pretending like he knew what the fuck he was talking about, while every person he used to be shakes their head and calls him a sell-out.
Whelp, that was the business wasn't it? Being well, a traitor and all. His job description was literally being a disappointment to someone. So might as well roll with the punches, right?
And then he found out who his partner was.
Fuck.
Are they fucking serious?
This had to be a joke. At any moment the real broadcasters were going to come in laughing and pointing and telling them to get the fuck out of their chairs, right?
Apparently not.
Before the whole event even started they had to prep him on what things to not say on public live television. And turn out there were many words in his common dictionary that were apart of this 'no-no' list.
"Suppose we have to play nice, huh astro-prick?" He grumbled right as they motioned to them going live.
The announcer (a very loud and enthusiastic one at that) called out the event of the day and he pretended to focus. In truth, this wasn't the worst thing in the world. He was all for mindless violence.
"Not exactly a realistic scenario, aims a bit more for flashier types, but there's some points in there for more supportive and rescue types." He said with a simple shrug.
He half-listened to Itsuka's droned detail of his own proposed plan. Who honestly thought this guy was a good idea for a broadcaster? His resting bitch-face was more like a resting-bitch everything down to the tone of his voice and the slouch of his shoulders. Not that Kosei was anyone to judge, he either looked and sounded angry about 70% of the time or 30% tired dad, but at least there was something there besides dead-eyed nothing. He wondered if Miu was still sulking because he wouldn't let her join him in the broadcaster booth...
He smirked at Itsuka's catch on his name, he knew the bastard was wanting to call him Crimson Rook or C.R., his ex-villain name, and the bastard was not shy in reminding others exactly who he had been at one time. However, right then, the bastard couldn't.
"Well, Meka.." He started with a smarmy little smile, "It depends on the qualities of each student and their quirks. They really need to focus on their own skills. The only way they're likely gonna fail is by being idiots trying to peacock to sponsors or play the hero. My skills are in defense and counter-attack so I'd play to that."

| Hyousuke stood, waiting, shaking. His teeth clenched together, as were his fingers - themselves curling into fists so tight that the skin on his knuckles turned a ghostly pale, and his nails threatened to tear past his skin. Looking down at the territory in front of him, and around at all those fighting by his side... it began to sink in just how weak he was, compared to them. Those with the strength to fling men across the room, those durable enough to stop bullets with their bare hands, those wielding devastating ranged attacks... And what could he do?
He shook his head quickly, and tried to focus his mind back on the task at hand. If he could down enough robots to get into UA, he could take enough to stay in the competition. It'd be difficult - throwing his fists at hulking metal behemoths would probably do more harm to him than to them. But there had to be a way to take them down - they wouldn't just throw students at invincible monstrosities, would they? "They're not invincible, though." A voice from the back of his mind reminded him. "You're just too weak to make a dent in them."
It wasn't wrong, of course. Hyousuke knew his Quirk wasn't suited for combat. Not against hard-shelled foes like them. But with pros from across the country keeping a close eye on the events, he couldn't afford to let doubts plague his mind. Not now. Not at such a crucial time. It was his chance to show the world what he was made of, and show them that he wasn't just some weak, cowering child, incapable of doing anything without help. His finger traced the scar that cut across his eye - he'd grown stronger since then. All that was left was to show them.
Once more, he looked out onto the distance, then around at his peers. It would be difficult to stand out amongst them, no doubt. After all, who in their right mind would pay attention to the student whose sole, single redeeming talent was something that anyone dedicated enough to training their mind and body could replicate without much issue? But it was a reality he'd faced every day of his life. The Sports Festival would be no different. He'd just do what always did.
Plant his feet. Grit his teeth. Hold nothing back. |

Post by Ren Wolff on Sept 5, 2019 2:34:57 GMT
Ren let out a deep breath and tensed slightly as the lift rumbled to life beneath his feet. His face didn't really show much, but his nerves would have been obvious to anyone standing close enough as the temperature dropped a few degrees. Sure, he'd been training like hell to prepare, but now that the day was here the whole weight of the event was bearing down on him... and yet even as he clenched his fists so that his hands wouldn't shake, he couldn't help but feel that pang of excitement flowing through him. For him it wasn't about the spectacle or the publicity, or the chance of impressing some big names by standing out with his abilities. With his situation being what it was, he would have actually avoided all of that if it were a real option. No, for him today represented a trial. A test to see how much he'd learned. A test to see how far he'd come. A test to see if he really had what it took to continue down this path.
He didn't expect it to be easy by any means of course. He'd be competing with his classmates and friends, all of which were impressive individuals in their own right, and they'd be giving it their all just like him. He looked across the familiar faces as he started walking across the platform toward the edge. A wave to Daiki and Jun, A nod to Isamu and Teresa, a soft pat on Fu's shoulder. Even if they ended up going against each other, he'd be wishing all of them luck.
As Ren reached the edge of the lift, the glare of the sun broke over the edge of the elevator shaft and blinded his golden eyes for the brief moment it took them to reach the top. As his eyes adjusted, he could see the structures of ground beta rising up around them, with various camera drones floating about to capture the feed for the audience. He'd have to do his best to ignore those once things got started... The first event seemed like a more complicated and larger scale version of one of their classes with Itsuka, adding in territory defense on top of rescue operations and threat removal. The most important part would be how they divided up their tasks, and he couldn't help but glancing toward Isamu again, wondering if the cat would be taking control of the situation again. Technically this round was a cooperative exercise, so there was a chance that they'd all band together, but if not he'd have to figure out where he was needed most...
Well, all of that would make itself clear soon enough, right? He just needed to focus on doing whatever he could. With the clock ticking down to the start of the event, Ren pulled his scarf from his pocket and unfolded it. Looking down at the yellow fabric, he took one more deep breath to settle his nerves as much as possible, and then tied it around his neck. Once the cloth was secured in place, his eyes went up once more as he mumbled under his breath.
"Whatever it takes."

[attr="class","sinner"] [attr="class","sinner1"] [attr="class","sinback"] [attr="class","sinnert"] What good is a world at peace, if it is a boring world? A question few care to ask given the times. Not only does one need to understand the present and face the immediate obstacles, but they need the understanding to recognize the future. People cannot truly live if they cannot live happily. That is why celebrations and events like the one happening on this very day have come to be. Beyond the marketing and investors, beyond the Heroes and the Villains and Vigilantes and Civilians. Just like Soccer, Football, Basketball and thousands of other sports... The Sports Festival is just a moment to bring people together to have fun. Hundreds of thousands of people across Japan have their televisions flicked on to watch an action packed event. The entire roster of UA has feelings that while they might not be innately good; some nervous and some indifferent... Many of them will walk out of the day with thrills and memories that will stick with them for the rest of their lives. They'll only ever be able to be in three festivals. Perhaps some day they'd come back and manage future ones with future generations, but these are their only shots to just... Entertain, give the world something fun to watch. That wisdom while always within the boy, didn't come from him. It was more of a feeling that couldn't be described until it was put into words by another person. A woman, to be exact standing just shorter than him at 6'3. She looked strong, formidable and definitely had intimidation going on her side. Sat propped before the gates of UA with a cigarette between her lips, she caught Daiki before he went inside. That being said, both knew today was going to happen the way it did. Daiki knew someone was at UA, a previous holder of the quirk. This was them, he'd think. A level of trust formed in an instant that would take a decade to achieve under normal circumstances. Taking a puff of the cigarette, she'd snuff it out on the wall behind her only to drop it and crush it under her boot. Looking him over, she gave him a thumbs up before starting to talk. " You're doing good kid. Though you and I both know you can be doing better, yes? I decided to come to Japan for a while to give you a bit of guidance. The quirk might pass hands, but the knowledge it retains never does. If I can help, this is how I'd like to do it." She said with an assertiveness in her tone that didn't give room for objection. Daiki responded with an understanding nod and the folding of his arms. He didn't need to be there quite yet. He had time still, and she knew that as well. After all, most people knew UA's start time. For the next hour they'd have been stationed in a cafe next to the window, side by side. Talking over morning coffee, offered without much consideration for if he wanted coffee or not. To be frank he wasn't much of a coffee drinker, but drink it he would. They talked about his school so far, his ambitions and goals in all their grandiosity and most importantly the mindset needed to give today his all. It wasn't about pounding some robots or showing off skills to the world. While those were beneficial to the self, it was about giving the crowd something to cheer about. Something to come together either at the event itself, at homes around the world or in bars to just watch something action packed and awesome. Though that was only the start of a mentor-ship that would last much longer than that. Abyss didn't specify how long they were staying even when asked, vaguely mentioning she'd be there as long as she felt like she should be. With a final mention that she'd be watching the festival, he went to school with a smile on his face. Fast forward five hours and he's standing in a high-tech lift with the rest of the first years. Slowly rising up, cogs around them gradually push the heavy duty apparatus up the cylindrical hole taking them to their starting point. The event itself was a lot to process. It would take everything they'd learned up until this point to correctly delegate objectives, and the important thing would be to not rely on each other, yet not be selfish and afraid to ask for help either. It was a balancing act that did have a real world implication. On the field often times fifteen people doing one thing is just cause for more problems than good, inversely one could be suicidal. One... Well, it depended really on the strength of the one... Daiki would think, scratching the side of his head with a sheepish smile on his face. Right. He looked up and gently clapped his hands together. He recognized just about everyone even if he didn't know all of their names, and spoke up. " So, to start none of you need to listen to what I'm saying, but it's just a suggestion. I'd say pair up in groups of two or three at most. We want to be in this for as long as possible, so if we get greedy and try to swarm our enemy they'll just flank us and take the hill. This way we can be flexible and resourceful..." He'd then smile a bit wider, " While of course, still maintaining competition." He'd state with a light gesture of his right hand. " Regardless of how this plays out, try to have fun out there, and good luck." He would say, looking between Ren and Jun. He'd call out towards them. " Tomoshibi-kun, Wolff-san. Want to team up?" They'd have not too long to answer at this point as the elevator came to a clunk at the top of its destination and an alarm would sound to signal the start of the event. It was technically a free for all, cooperation lied only in logic and bonds. Post by Futaba Himura on Sept 6, 2019 3:55:42 GMT
The Sports Festival. U.A's annual grandstanding event to show the rest of Japan just how great they were. Futaba remembered watching the Sports Festival the first year Ryuusei was participating in it and that was about it. She initially wasn't interested in being a hero so the obsession over the event never appealed to her. Often she would just tune into some music program on the latter channels of her TV or attend a music demonstration that drew a very small crowd. Those times were always fun because she always remembered how the performers lit up when someone Fu's age was going to see their fairly empty performance. It was one of those small things that brought the little Himura some happiness. Sadly, she did not have that luxury this time around. Futaba Himura was participating in the Sports Festival. It was half a miracle that she was participating. Her cancer had sidelined her for a decent length of time. She just recently got into the swing of things with her hero courses again and then the Sports Festival appeared. She sort of expected being exempt from it but someone in the administration of the school did not allow it. That was according to her sensei at least. It was so ridiculous that Fu did not believe it when she was first told. Oh well, now her she was. SHe wouldn't be too upset about the entire thing if it weren't for the first task. Giant robots. Giant fucking RobotsWhen was the last time Japan was attacked by giant robots, let alone any where else in the world? It was honestly ridiculous just like every other year. She had made her feelings apparent but that got her so far. She still had to take part. That wasn't the issue though. What Fu was more concerned about was the endless harassing that is going to barrage her after this day. She already gets constant hate from people online because some fan ranking. Apparently she has to be a super star to be considered of any worth in the school. What a twisted world. Putting in her earphones, Fu decided she was just going to do nothing at all during the festival. If she avoided the cameras, no one can harass her online. If no one saw her fuck up or fail, there could not have enough reasons to harass her. Picking on someone for not being seen at all is not a good enough reason to harass someone. Fu ignored her classmates, the music overshadowing any sort of chatter form them. As all of them sprinted in every odd direction, Fu calmly laid down on the floor. Looking up at the sky, she simply hummed the song she was listening to. Who cares. I'm useless in every matter for this task. Might as well and not interfere.

Ah yes.
The fabled Sports Festival!
Riku's initial plans of securing the nomination for class president had gone astray BUT FORGET ALL THAT! That was in the past! And the past was not today! Oh no no no! Today was today and of course that was what was most important! But as to what happened on the day of election....well Riku wasn't quite sure himself. Or at least initially. That day had started normally too! He had gone to class like usual after all. But once in the class and called upon to submit his speech for why he would obviously be the best president ever in the history of the class, he just sort of....blacked out. Like not pass out black out mind you. But something akin to freezing in place. He remembered going into his bag looking for the paper that he had written all his ideas on and the order in which he would present them but after looking around in his bag for awhile, he just suddenly....stopped. Or so he was told. Apparently the class had been staring at him for awhile as he just stood transfixed in position. He didn't move, speak, or even blink apparently for quite awhile too! Which was a wonder since he totally LOVED soing all of those things! But nope! He was as stiff as a statue for what seemed like an eternity!!! Or so he was told but it really was just for about three minutes! But yup! He just simply remained still until he just randomly picked up his bag and walked out of the class!~ Apparently he had just simply gone back to his room and went to bed after that little incident too!
Whoopie!~
Tee hee!~ But wouldn't ya know it! Riku didn't remember even the tiniest bit about any of that! Or so his mind had dictated! Because after putting the pieces of the incident together, Riku surmised pretty much what had happened. He had lost his speech. How he had done it, or why it had happened but it did. And thus Riku was left to deal with what was left of his hopes and dreams. Sufficed to say, those two things shattered before his very eyes and in the very shock of making such a juvenile mistake, Riku's brain or rather his ego had decided to take over! It had decided to remove the boy from the situation and instead force him to forget about the whole thing!~ YAY!!!
<3 !REPRESSED MEMORIES! <3
Obviously though, that didn't make everyone else forget it though which caused Riku to sort of slink into a slight slump...or so he had been UNTIL TODAY! WHY YOU ASK!? Well comon guys. We all knew why. It was fucking because Riku was finally gonna redeem himself and free himself from all the accursed stares and giggles he got from everyone he happened to catch looking at him! YES! Today was the day that Riku finally reclaimed him goddamn dignity!!!!! ...
..
. But until that time...Riku was gonna just keep himself separated from the rest of the class as he tried to focus his ever erratic thoughts. It was a fool's errand but Riku loved to try to do the impossible after all! But anywho as he tried to do this his dark eyes shifted from classmate to classmate as he retained a faint but still noticeable smile in hopes of trying to maintain whatever respectability he still held. He wasn't exactly sure what he intended for his game plan to be for today's events but he did know one thing. It was gonna be fucking flashy!~

Chiura had been on the Grounds any number of times since she started at U.A. It had never felt quite like this, though. As the group of students rose from the earth and ascended towards the stage of their first event, a chill of fear leapt down her spine and through to the tip of her tail. This was it -- a chance for every student to make a mark on their records and get national attention for the first time. For Chiura, though, it meant something a bit more personal. It was, ultimately, a chance to prove that she hadn't been a mistake. Her admission here had come at great personal sacrifice, and she had no intention of letting the world dismiss her worthiness based on a bad performance at the sports festival.
The chill in her spine quieted, replaced by an unfamiliar feeling that had begun to crop up more often of late. Chiura found that it usually flared up in the presence of others; she remembered feeling it to a degree when she admired Fu-chan's bravery in returning to school, or feeling the force of Daiki's conviction during their post class cleanup conversation. She remembered it from Hyousuke's quiet resolve, and she remembered it in the approving eyes of her would-be mentor as Chiura gripped a blade for the first time. For most of her life, she had only committed the eyes of the fearful masses to memory. Her mind's eye had long been dominated by the gazes of the contemptuous and the judgmental, eager to strike her down or push her out before she could get a word in edgewise.
Here, though? The eyes she'd seen had touched her heart and filled it with determination. And as she felt a thousand thousand eyes settle upon her and her classmates, that little ember flared a thousand fold.
"Hyousuke-kun!" She slithered up to the blonde-haired boy almost immediately. For once, she wasn't shivering, and she spoke with an unexpected conviction. Her eyes flared that characteristic, reptilian yellow that tended to emerge when she was able to get serious."Let's work together. I can crush the smaller ones, but I need to be able to get around them first. Can you lure them around a corner so I can strike on my terms? Between the two of us we should be able to stake out at least a little bit of territory."
She blinked, a bit surprised at the force behind her own words. She didn't want to come on too strong, after all. So she flashed a cheesy grin, flickering her tongue between her upturned lips and flashing a peace sign with her left hand while her right perched upon her hip. "No worries, right? Stick together and we'll be just fine."

Post by Teresa Collins on Sept 7, 2019 11:46:19 GMT
So she was here. She was neither nervous nor excited, she just....was. It was not her idea to take part in the festival. However, her father said it would help the Collins Group efforts to make good with the public and give a good presentation to what they were capable of, so she went along with it rather than voice her own concerns about her health to him. She did not feel very well, but she was to do as her father asked her so her own health was not a concern. She was riding the lift to the arena with the other students. One glance and she could tell the others were focused on the event. She was dressed in her gym uniform with her durable gym shoes. They protected her feet from the impact that she had when she did lift heavy objects or people as well as gave her some support when she ran or did her gymnastics. She wore white socks within them. Her long white hair was pulled into a high ponytail with a black bow keeping it looking neat and tidy. Her goggles stayed on her head until she needed them. Lastly, on her back was her teddy bear that doubled as a backpack that held her medicine and extra pair of leather gloves (aside from the pair that was on her hands).
Her eyes closed as she remembered the conversation she had with her father just before the event was to start. Not even two hours ago did her father meet with her in an empty staff meeting room to talk to her before the first event. He looked the same as always, stern yet decidedly calm. However, the calm was not to be trusted since she knew her father to have a high temper when his plans did not go the way he wanted them to. Teresa had stood in front of him with her hands clasped lightly in front of her. No teddy bear in sight. It was not allowed to be in her hands when she was to see her father. It was labeled as 'useless' and as such was never to be with Teresa in front of him. Moving on, she had stood for about twenty minutes before her father even acknowledged her presence and talked to her. He told her of his expectations, of what he wanted from Teresa in the event, and what was expected of her as a Collins to uphold their family pride. Despite her feelings of participating, she merely nodded to him and told him that she would do as he said. As soon as her father heard that he looked back at her and narrowed his icy blue eyes towards her. Teresa had seen that look before, but only when she was much younger and when she did not act like she had now. Her mind and body were different from then, she suppressed her emotions since then. When something akin to surprise flashed across Teresa's face, the cold look returned with full force as his eyes kept being narrowed. He had then told her that he expects her to remember what her objective is. She remembered, and merely nodded and gave a curtsy before being excused to return to her room to prepare for the event.
Eyes opening again, she looked around at the others. They looked pretty psyched up at being in the sports festival. So why didn't Teresa feel the same? In some ways, she was happy to spend more time with her classmates and friends (the few that she had so far). However, in others, she was expected to perform well enough to give the Collins Group some good PR. Her hands clasped in front of her with no teddy bear in it like usual since it was now on her back in backpack form. Her knuckles hurt from how hard she was holding her own hands. If anyone was looking very closely at Teresa for a moment or two longer than usual, they would notice her hands shaking. Her face remained passive and calm, but the slight glint in her eyes told anyone that there was something going on with Teresa. Why do I feel so jittery? Is this what it feels like to be nervous? But...what is this feeling in the pit of my stomach? It feels like....worry? Even though Teresa was once a normal child who was very happy and felt everything, she had suppressed that part of herself as she grew up to become closer with her father and not be left behind. Now that she had come to UA (and with the help of her weird tutor), she began to feel things again. In most ways, it scared her and made her question her objectives. Even when her father was more concerned about his own plans and pushed aside Teresa's own concerns about her health.
I couldn't do it. I had a chance to talk to him about taking me to a doctor to check up on my body and...I couldn't bring myself to push the topic... Her thoughts swirled chaotically as she stood silently still, not sure if she should talk to some of the others since they were already making plans with each other. Teresa figured she could do something to help, even if they did not ask for it. Still, worry grew as she wasn't told to do anything just yet. She wasn't sure how to ask for help.

“… Okay, Kimi-chan, I will. I will! Thanks for calling, but I have to go now—I need to go get ready for the festival. Love you too, sis. Tell Mom and Dad I love them for me. Yes, I’m going now. Good bye.”
He ended the call, the portrait of his younger sister fading from the display as his phone went back to its home screen. He was, quite rarely for anyone at U.A. to see, smiling as he put his phone into the locker. She looked up to him so much despite being so much unfairly taller than he was. Out of his family, he’d kept in touch with her the most, his parents less so, and his older brother even less than that. He’d been so focused on his training and studies in Musutafu, that he hadn’t thought about home a lot, but he was suddenly hit with a bout of introspection as he started getting changed for the sports festival.
Kimiko telling him that she would be watching him on TV had brought into sharp focus just what he was about to do in a few minutes’ time.
The U.A. Sports Festival. Shown to a large stadium of recruiters, talent scouts, heroes, and other observers. Broadcast nationally for the whole country to see. Their first real chance to market themselves and their skills, to make an impact on the public at large as an up and comer, and the first chance… for any of his past to come to light.
He’d done his best to keep a low profile, not wanting to draw any attention—or more importantly, scrutiny—to himself. Which had suited him just fine, as ‘staying out of notice’ was his preferred method of going about his business. It kept the ridicule down, and it came naturally with the predator instincts rattling around in his brain. And it also meshed with how he envisioned going about his hero work, in the dark, under cover of night, using all of his quirk to its utmost advantage.
But now, it was time to step out into the light.
To somehow make his mark against the much flashier quirks of his classmates, while somehow still playing to his own strengths to hide in the shadows and to act subtly. … Especially since the administration had denied his requests to take some of his gear into the festival with him, despite making it himself. He scowled a little at the thought. Even if they weren’t super powerful, they still gave him tools and options at his disposal, and without them, well… he’d just have to push himself to his limits.
He finished getting dressed in his gym uniform and stood up, shutting the locker door. Isamu squinted as he stepped out into the field, blinding sunlight and the attention of an entire stadium taking a few moments to get used to. By the time the opening ceremonies finished and they had been herded onto the massive lift, he was back to his normal, stoic self, quietly contemplating strategies. He dearly missed his wrist computer at that moment; it would have made organizing things so much easier.
There were several layers to the problem at hand. First was the objective of the exercise: destroy bots, rescue civilians, and reclaim territory. With several full classes of students there was a lot to manage. The second layer of all of this was the game theory: cooperation was clearly allowed, and probably expected, but there was still an elimination aspect. People will stronger powers could, in theory, work more independently and earn points just for themselves, but the weaker students could band together and increase their collective ability. It would mean scoring less, but the chance of failure should also be diminished, along with the risk of losing points. Purely from a scoring perspective, the winning move might be to stay centrally located to participate in as much point scoring as possible… but there were so many students and scoring methods it was difficult to reason out the math in his head.
Though considering the spectators watching, there was an another additional consideration to be made for simply getting the best opportunity to show off your quirks or support gear, regardless of the final point totals.
He looked around the elevator at the various students talking and making preparations. Some had seemingly taken Daiki’s suggestion to heart, but without anybody organizing the efforts, it might all come crumbling down quickly.
Most of his classmates seemed to be prepping, except, sadly, for one. He frowned as he spotted Himura, who didn’t seem… excited to be there. Or even like she was preparing. He had a hard time getting a read on her motivations. Sure, she had been through quite a bit, but even so… he had never been entirely convinced that her heart was in pursuing the career of being a hero.
He kept his gaze moving to the rest of his classmates. Teresa’s white knuckle grip and that look in her eye caught his attention, and he made his way over to the girl. “Hey, are you okay?” He took a step around her to spot the backpack and nodded to himself. “Do your best, but don’t push yourself too hard, okay?” He inclined his head towards the backpack and asked in a low voice, “Do you have everything you need?”
And with that, he went to find their esteemed class representative, who seemed to be forming her own partnership. “Yutsuko-san, we need to talk to the other class representatives. If we don’t find a way to organize all of the students, we could well fail the challenge before we even start. I’ve got some ideas, but we need to scope out the situation once we reach out the top.”
When the lift finally reached its summit, Isamu was the first out the door, jumping and climbing up on top of the lift, and then up onto the infrastructure supporting it, making his way to the highest point he could so he could survey the rest of the area. “I’m counting… 30 buildings,” he called down to the hopefully-gathered class reps. “There’s 9 immediately surrounding us, and I can see a number of the smaller robots patrolling the streets.”
He jumped back down on top of the lift. “I know we’re being individually scored, but we have the best chance of success by organizing our efforts. We should divide up our labor. Our first priority should be establishing a perimeter around our base, and securing the streets surrounding us. We’ll need to keep a group here to assist with defending and evacuating civilians. We can try to push for more territory, but we shouldn’t overextend ourselves. I think we should retake the nine buildings around us to form a second perimeter. After that we can reach most of the other buildings surrounding those except some of the buildings to the very far south. We’ll need scouting parties, strike and rescue parties, defense… can anyone establish lines of communication so we can coordinate all of this?” Hopefully the assorted students could sort themselves out fairly easily… he in no way knew how everyone’s quirks worked, nor the majority of the gadgets the support students would have, but the other class reps should be in a much better position to know all of that. Hopefully some of the hero management students would take over base operations, so he could go out and do recon and scouting work. But if not, well, he’d do what he could.

Post by Avery Grace on Sept 8, 2019 4:18:06 GMT
Avery sighed as she stood in the dressing room before the event - what bad timing, she thought, as she began to prepare the needle full of hormone blocking medication. She was used to it, of course - it'd been quite a few years doing this injection every week or so. But still, it was no less annoying that she had to do it on the same day as the sports festival. In any case, it was a necessity, and she finished up the injection into her leg quickly before covering it with a skin covered band-aid. She looked in the mirror, inspecting her makeup, clothes, face.
A smile danced across her face - there was a good thing about today. She passed pretty well, and she was extra worried about that given that cameras would be focused on her face all day. After checking all of her necessities, she stepped out onto the lift that would soon lift her and the other students up.
After the explanation was done, the girl was suspended in thought for a short time. She wasn't going to be a great fighter at the moment. She didn't have her hand claws, and trying to kick a robot would nearly certainly result in a few broken bones. She could swoop down and maybe try to tear through the steel, but she didn't think it was very likely. She probably wouldn't be able to lift the civilian bots either - although she wasn't so sure yet.
Her best use here was going to be reconnaissance. She hadn't really became good friends with many people, but now was as good a time as any.
The lift rumbled, lifting the harpy girl and the other students up onto the stage. As this happened, she saw a classmate first out the doors - another mutation type that she had seen around, but rarely. It seemed like he was the type to keep to himself normally. He started speaking loudly, clearly trying to organise. As one of the less combat effective students, Avery knew that this could be one of her chances to shine. She beat her wings, lifting herself a few feet off the ground -
"I can help with recon! I can see really far and fly around, so leave that to me. I just need a way to communicate back - but otherwise, flying back shouldn't be a problem. As long as I'm not fighting, I can fly for a long time." Her voice was filled with shaky confidence as she lifted herself into the air. She had to try to prove herself and get some attention.

Jun didn't bring his wrist grappling hooks for this. He felt like he didn't need them. Though this scenario...this format was unusual for the sports festival. But perhaps they were trying something new. Not just to draw a crowd, but to show off a bit more of what their students are capable of. Though like the entrance exam, it seemed a bit more biased towards those with flashier or more offensive like quirks. Like him, Ren, and Daiki.
Speaking of, some seemed to follow Daiki's suggestion. Though this still seemed a bit like a free for all. Almost too much. As much as he wanted to take command of everyone, he just didn't know if they would follow the commands. He couldn't help but worry about some of the others. Like Isamu and Hyousuke. Fu especially. It almost seemed like she's given up again. Sighing heavily, he walked over towards Daiki.
Luckily, he had the same idea. Except joining in with Ren. That could be both good and bad. "That could have some mixed results. I suppose if I start reaching my limit on my fire half, Ren could cool me down, and I warm him up if his quirk affects his body temperature too much. Extend our stays. Otherwise, I'm more afraid that we'll get more in each other's way than anything...though I guess there's not much time to discuss it. If you're game, I plan on hitting the sixty point group closest to us..." He eyed the new transfer student, Avery.
Being able to fly was nice. Jun could hover, and move quickly, where Daiki could move quickly. They had both power and mobility. But Ren could provide some longevity and defensive cover. Avery might be of better use for the other groups, seeing as from what he knew, they already had the strongest group...and didn't need that much recon. Where the others would have to move more carefully.

I'M NOT IN LOVE don't have the time Call it a crime to find everything I need in me. That morning, things moved slow. Torami felt out of place on that lift; she brooded silently, alone. The sports festival was everyone's chance to prove his or her worth. One would think Tora would be looking forward to showing that she could actually do something. Alas, she doubted herself. Firstly, Mother was watching. That pressure alone held her by a lump in her throat, and was given to her by an informant in the form of her brother, Tokito. So she'd be steeping in their shadows. That's what she gets for placing them on a pedestal, right? Swallowing hard, the raven-haired girl glanced around at her peers. Immediately Miss Himura caught her eye; Tora couldn't blame her, though. She herself felt her motivation freezing up. But that wouldn't do, so she made a move. "Excuse me, you're Hellhound, right? In the student message board, that is." Explained Torami, approaching the tense-looking girl. She knew very little about Collins' quirk, but Tora figured if she was gonna get anywhere in this event she'd need some friends. "H-hrm... I'm Torami Wakui." Continued she, haphazardly. Oh stars, was she uncomfortable. There were too many prying eyes and too much on her mind-- hopefully Miss Collins didn't notice nor mind. "Would you like to-- Are you okay?" Tora piped up, lacking her usual collected demeanor. It was unlikely that she could really be of help to anyone, why would she ask to partner with them? Her concern of Miss Collins' welfare was no more than a scapegoat; Torami imagined most if not all students here were feeling incredibly stressed, for one reason or another. Standing there awkwardly, the porcelain-pale woman wished she knew what to do. She was frustrated that she didn't, after spending so much time thinking about it. Alas, here she was, debating whether or not to ask someone to work together. What was she, five? It was disappointing.

| The sports festival. A time of year that every UA student was either hyped up for, or dreaded. A time to show off your skills to the whole world. To let potential hero agencies know what you were really made of and what you'd be best for. A time to get scouted and kick-start your career as a pro. At least that's what the faculty at UA had told them. Ryu was of course very aware of Aoi's own problems with the sports festival. How the students were judged like horses at a show. And while on some level he agreed with her; he knew it was important to show the public that the next generation of heroes would be more than capable of protecting them. It was as much a show for the crowd as it was a statement. That UA and it's heroes in training would stand against any evil. [break][break]
That was what Ryu liked to think about it, at least. Of course Aoi had gotten Ryu his own set of transforming clothes during the event and had signed for them. The last thing she had wanted was to watch her brother wind up naked on international television. He had originally requested his hero costume, but that had been denied over a potential unfair advantage, so clothes that looked otherwise identical to the UA gym uniform were provided instead.[break][break]
Ryu listened intently to the first events rules. Busting up robots and rescuing civilians? It seemed simple, but Ryu would need to be careful. He had a time limit on his powers, and he couldn't just go around smashing robots willy-nilly. Any potential property damage could put more people in danger than he could save. He'd never forgive himself if he caused a building to collapse and people were inside.[break][break]
Looking over to Hyouske and Chiura, whom he knew rather decently, he walked to them and smiled. Raising a hand, his crimson eyes scanned both of them. "Hey, guys." He began. "Mind teaming up? I can fly, so I can help recon and assist on the bigger enemies. I have to try and conserve my powers. I've got a time limit if I push myself too far." No point in hiding his quirk from them. Still... he had noticed Fu was over sitting by herself. Turning to her he'd cup his hands over his mouth like a megaphone. "OIIIII!" He shout.[break][break]
"Fu-chan! Come join us!" Granted he hadn't gotten permission from Hyouske or Chiura yet, but he figured even if they wanted to work on their own he could give Fu a partner. She wasn't a combat oriented person. She'd be a sitting duck all on her own. Ryu couldn't just leave her like that. It wasn't in his nature.[break][break]
