Aoi watched as the students slowly filled in. She did not comment on whether the student chose to run or not. That was not her business. If the student thought they were fit to be class representative, it was their duty to run. Most students seemingly wanted to run, at least those who have showed up. She supposed it is fair for them to assume if they don't want to be class representative, they don't need to come to class but that attitude was harmful for their success as heroes. She'll have a chat with her students about that later. Oh well, she has more things to worry about at the moment. Most of the times, people did not take the class representative vote seriously and vote for someone who would do a horrible job. At least, that was the habit U.A. High School had. This did note occur at Ine Academy.
As the last few students took their places in the classroom, Aoi got up from her chair. After erasing the names on the board for those who were not running, she glanced over her class. 'This is going to be a long day, make it a good one.
Clearing her throat, Aoi looked over her students before talking "Today we are having class representative election. I expect everyone to be respectful while giving their speeches and also not talking while other students give their speeches. Your class representative is an important position. They will be the point of contact with the administration of the school. They'll be the point of contact with student council. They will have to take on significant extra work along with their other commitments. We'll go over voting procedure once all speeches have been given. Sakamaki, seeing as you were the first one here, you are going first. "
And with that, Aoi sat down again. Taking out a pen, she primed her notebook for note taking.

But Sakamaki needed a moment, and thus would wait until the end -- leaving the next person designated as...
Chiura gulped. She wasn't ready for this. How could she possibly be ready for this?! Suddenly, stage fright clung at her heart. Her cheeks went cold and her hands went clammy. She had sworn to make something out of this moment, but now she was struggling to even slither up to the front of the room.
She glanced nervously this way and that, trying to catch someone's eye -- trying to latch onto some sense of reality that would grant her the courage that she needed.
Hyousuke, who had opted out of speaking, was lazing in his seat. Futaba was in hers, too, fiddling with her medicinal drip. Ryu was fighting his own nerves; she gave him a smile of appreciation. "You and I both," she laughed, running an anxious hand through her hair. Her eyes settled upon Daiki -- the man who had so flumoxed her at the race track with his apparent qualifications. The man who had guided her, however briefly, in the disaster training exercise. The man who always seemed to be looking out for others, even as he kept track of himself and his own goals. How could she rationalize presenting herself as a potential leader when people like him existed?
Chiura blinked; her gaze had lingered upon the blue-eyed speedster for longer than she had intended. Her heart was fluttering, her tongue darting nervously between her lips. Daiki wouldn't have her comparing herself to him, she thought; he would say something inspirational and kind, like Being a hero means being YOUR best, not someone else's!.
She smiled. He, and the others who she had met during her brief time here, seemed to think that she could do great things. It would be a dreadful thing to let them down.
Chiura readied her resolve before slithering to the front of the room. She glanced towards her professor, waiting for the cue to begin before offering a deep, formal bow.
"Good morning, Classss 1-A!" she said, her voice confident despite the serpentine lisp that plagued it when she tried to speak up in front of crowds.
"Some of you may not yet know me; my name is Yutsuku Chiura. I transferred into the Hero Program some weeks ago from a general studies high school in Hokkaido. It has been an adventure getting to know you all in this brief time -- and acclimating myself to the culture of U.A.
Still, I can't help but bring some of my experiences from Hokkaido here with me. I can't help but remember the way that many people I knew talked of my dream to transfer into this program. The looks of doubt; the whispered condescensions; it was all enough to really put a girl out of her element. To dissuade her from trying to do something great."
She paused, considering her words; the speech, such as it was, was written down -- but she had left the paper on her desk. She didn't want this to come off as practiced; and it largely wasn't. Much of what she said was from the heart.
"But here I am, despite the doubts and the aspersions. The accusations of insufficiency or inadequacy. My presence here in U.A. is a privilege -- a gift granted in recognition of potential for greatness that I have developed through hard work and perseverence. It's a gift that every single one of you share with me. We wouldn't be here if we weren't capable; we wouldn't be here if we couldn't rise to any challenge that was presented to us." She paused, glancing for a moment towards Daiki. "We wouldn't be here if we couldn't learn from our peers, and use that knowledge to become the best heroes that we can be."
"I'm far from the strongest out of all of us here. Certainly not the fastest. Assuredly not the most intelligent, or the most charismatic. And perhaps not even the most deserving." She gulped; a nervous tremor had crept into her voice. Chiura took a moment to steady herself; her tail flicked back and forth in a simple, rhythmic cadence.
"But I can promise you that I will be the most diligent. The most caring and considerate. The most attenuated to the needs of every hero in training here in 1-A. I know all too well how it feels to know that you're capable of something greater -- only to have someone higher up in society tell you that it's a pipe dream. That you're out of your nest. That you're hopeless.
She shook her head; her left fist found her right palm as she clapped quietly for emphatic effect. "If you vote for me, I will ensure that, to the best of my ability, all of your needs and interests are given the platform that they deserve. I will make sure that you are the masters of your own educational destiny -- that you get the support and the insight and the interest that you need to become your best hero. I'm asking you to vote for me because -- well... If the world wants to tell us that we aren't good enough or that we don't belong, then we owe it to them -- we owe it to ourselves and to each other to stand up on the rooftops and shout back the truth!"
She had hit something of a rhythm. She smiled radiantly at the others, her fangs glinting in the fluorescent classroom light. "It's -- It's a bit cheesy I guess," she said, her voice steady. "And I'm sure I won't be the last one today that says it. But -- well, I want to stress to you all that I feel it deeply in my heart. I want to be able to help you to go beyond; that's what Plus Ultra means to me, and that's why I want to be your class rep."
She paused, in part for dramatic effect and in part because she was out of breath. Unsure of how else to conclude, she flashed another radiant smile before bowing once more and slithering back to her 'seat'.
For better or for worse -- she had gone for it! She only hoped that she had inspired some of the others to greater heights still. Inwardly, she hoped Satou-san had been listening.

Futaba looked at her hands as she listened to her fellow student give her speech. She had not known her before today's introduction. That was her experience with most of the current 1-A Hero Course. There were the familiar faces but most of them were new. It was disheartening for the Himura as she did not know what the others thought of her. She knew some people in General Studies spread rumours about her and then there was the constant gaggle of online shit storm that people all over Japan. Why people cared so damn much about what one random hero's daughter was like? What her quirk was? How she shaped up compared to her brother? How she shaped up compared to her parents. BLAH BLAH BLAH!
And then Yutsuko-san's speech was over. Who was next? Futaba looked around the class and no one was getting up to stand in front of the class. Sighing, she closed her eyes and moved out of her seat. Pushing along her medical equipment in front of her, Fu tried to get up to the front of the class with her equipment with as little commotion as she could. Eventually she got up to the front of the class, moving herself into a position so most students could see her and she was not blocking her sensei's view, Fu gave the class a bow.
"Hello, I'm Himura Futaba. Some of you know me but I don't know most of you. I'm not the most familiar with these things but here it goes I guess." Fu smiled a bit before looking at her feet for a short moment. She really had not thought of a big important speech, rather she just had points she wanted to cover. It was not much and she did not expect much from it but she just wanted to be honest.
"U.A. has been a very unique experience for me. I have been in two course in U.A. I've been in Hero Course and General Studies. I've spent most my time here in General Studies but not because I joined hero course late but rather that I left hero course. I've been recently added back to hero course after some recent events. " She sighed a bit getting the more uncomfortable bit out of the way.
"While I have been at U.A., everyone I've met has been supportive of me. Everyone has believed in me that I am able to be a hero. That even though I think my quirk is the weakest in the class, my classmates saw potential in me. I'm thankful for that. I want to be the help to 1-A that 1-A has been for me. " Futaba nodded a bit before thinking of the last thing she wanted to say.
"Having been in the different spectrum of the school, I have seen what others think of us. I want to change how people see us and represent 1-A in the best way possible: Being able to overcome adversity. We've all faced some adversity in our lives and I've faced and I am still facing it. I want to succeed not only for myself but also for 1-A." Bowing one last time, Fu returned to her seat. That went better than she thought it would.

More people wanted to remove their own names from the running for class rep than Ryu would have figured. He didn't know any of them, but he figured they must all have their own personal reasons for not wanting to run. One just looked lazy and sleepy and probably just didn't want the responsibility. Another one, a blonde girl with red eyes, seemed like she was... down about something. Her body language was screaming it. Maybe she felt like she didn't deserve it. He didn't know. But he supposed that trying to read everyone and figure out their motivations for not wanting to run wasn't productive. Right now what would be the most productive would be figuring out how to follow up the two excellent speeches that had just been given by Chiura and Fu. They were both wonderful candidates, and he expected either of them to win. But that didn't mean he wouldn't try.[break][break]
Given that it was now his turn Ryu would nod and smile to Chiura before standing up from his desk and walking to the front front of the class. He turned and looked over everyone before steeling himself to calm his nerves. If he wanted to be a hero he couldn't be afraid of giving a motivating speech every now and then, right? "Hello, everyone." He started. "My name is Ryu." He conveniently left out his last name. The last thing he wanted was to be voted for simply because he was the teachers brother. It also helped that he and Aoi so seldomly looked alike. Aoi had told him once that he had been born with vibrant red hair like hers, but it started growing out more and turned white as he got older. Most likely a secondary side effect from his Quirk taking hold. [break][break]
Continuing on, he spoke more. "You probably don't recognize me. Much like several other students here, I'm a new transfer." Best to start with the basics, after all. "I don't expect any of you to trust me yet. We've only just met, after all." He wasn't really expecting to win. But dammit, he could hope, couldn't he? "Like all of you here I wanted to get into UA because I want to become a great hero. And being a Hero... it's more than about rescuing people from a burning building and taking down bad guys, isn't it? Growing up I was always inspired by the pros I saw on TV. How they risked their lives without hesitation for the greater good. To protect and serve those who couldn't protect themselves. And recently I've realized that is just as much part of being a hero as actually saving people. Inspiring people to be better than they thought they could be -- to change peoples lives for the better. I think that's also an important part of being a Hero."[break][break]
"I want to be your class representative because I want to help everyone here become better than they think they can be. We've only just started our journeys as heroes. And I don't expect it to be easy. But we didn't come to UA because we wanted to take the easy route. And I swear to each and every one of you that if you vote for me I will do whatever I can to make sure that all of you get everything you need to become the best you can possibly be. No matter how hard it is or how long it takes. No matter how many people try to tell us that we can't do it." Besides, he had a good connection with Aoi. But they didn't need to know that. [break][break]
"I know it's hard to trust someone you just met. Someone you don't really know... but I promise you that if you put your faith in me that you won't be disappointed." And with that, he'd give a respectful bow to the class before returning to his seat. His heart was pounding but someone would be hard pressed to tell how anxious he was if they didn't know him well. Post by Torami Wakui on Jun 13, 2019 0:23:54 GMT
I'M NOT IN LOVE don't have the time Call it a crime to find everything I need in me. Torami paid particular attention to her forerunners' speeches- their stories, their motivations- and she found herself somewhat disheartened. They all had similar stories, and some were in similar situations to her; not too well known or simply new to the class. Truthfully, Tora hadn't participated much. She worked hard, but didn't often socialize or make connections that would've surely been helpful in her 'campaign'. Alas, here she was, with no plan nor speech. The time for improvisation was now. As her turn arrived, the neat young lady stood, hopefully leaving any unpleasant nerves at her seat. But not even the stoic Tora could waltz up to the front of the class without some anxiety. Breathing deeply and standing straight, she would begin. "Hello, everyone. I am Torami Wakui." Began the girl, speaking clearly, although with some hesitation. "I haven't had the pleasure of speaking with most of you yet, but I'd soon like to change that. And with that, I can admit that I am not the most social, and my quirk isn't particularly useful outside of reconnaissance. I am average in most things. But the one thing I can credit myself for is dedication." Torami took a moment to breathe.
"Dedication to finish the job that needs to be finished. Focus to spend as much time that's needed to help you, the individual, excel. Need tutoring on a subject? Just ask. Have a question? Anytime, I'll answer. Your concerns would be mine, and your school experience would be my priority." As she spoke, she used open-palmed hand gestures to emphasize her words. And when she paused, as she did now, she was sure to subtly smile and glance around the room.
"I can't guarantee I'll be your best friend, but I can guarantee that if you vote for me, you're voting for a job well done." Concluded the lass, having nothing else to say. So she promptly bowed and returned to her seat.
Torami wasn't sure of what the class would think of her speech. Did she come off as too blunt? Unapproachable? Usually steady hands trembled slightly under her desk. No one would notice, hopefully.

[attr="class","sinner"] [attr="class","sinner1"] [attr="class","sinback"] [attr="class","sinnert"] The look on Ryuga's face and her tone was crushing. He didn't exactly know what had overcome her, he could only theorize based on what he's been involved in. The only extreme situation being a couple weeks back with the Villain attack. He couldn't imagine what she'd be beating herself up about, but ones mind is prone to making reasons to beat itself up, even if it's hard to rationalize from an outer perspective. Looking over towards her desk, he wanted to walk over there and talk to her right now. Though this was the moment that he would start the initiative in making an open dialogue. Open his ears to everyone, be there for everyone in 1-A. This was his opportunity, and he'd been thinking about it for months. The students that he had gotten an opportunity to speak with shared their pains with him in trust, some more than others and fairly so. It had made him realize that among the crowd of students, not many of them had lived good lives. Many of the motivations people here have are pushes from bad lives, and a desire to change that for people in the future. Overruling families, discrimination, self hatred. There were multiple people in the room he could almost see withering in their seats as they recycled their thoughts into self-incriminating demons bent on berating them like a Devil's Advocate with no good counterpart. Watching Torami finish her speech, he'd offer a smile of approval. No matter the reason, he understood a lot of people here required courage to stand up on that stage. If he hadn't been the hotshot for cumulatively 9 or so years in Elementary and Middle School, he'd be just as nervous. There was a respect for that bravery, and also a deeper understanding that the fact they were nervous meant that whether they realized it or not, the put their emotions on the line in how the crowd reacted. If someone said a speech was bad it'd be devastating. Though they had absolutely nothing to worry about, at least from Daiki. Since when it came to giving a speech, his was going to be the absolute worst with no sense of format. Just a dialogue from the heart. An attempt to establish a healthy community among the first years- especially 1-A, for the next several years. That is what drove him to stand and walk away from Ryuga and Raphael, because this had everything to do with them. He walked towards the front of the room without paper or cue cards. Nothing but himself, in his UA uniform and a podium meant for a script but being unfortunately unused. Still, it allowed him to rest his arms and lean into it slightly. A silence filled the air, not a shred of nervousness was in him, because there was nothing to lose here. This wasn't about becoming class president, this was never about becoming class president. This was about getting a message out there. If he got the position on top of that, it would be nice, but it was secondary. Taking in a deep breath, he started talking. Rubbing the back of his neck lightly, he gave a small smile. " This has been on my mind since our first day here, my first day here. A chance to speak to everyone. I want to start by sharing a story, I'll try to be brief. Around a year ago today, I was... Similar, but also fundamentally different. My quirk, which many of you have seen can make me run faster, be stronger and tougher. It's... Helpful, but my quirk is more than that. At first I didn't understand some of the things I experienced, my dreams often had me vividly seeing through the eyes of another person- they still do. This person is a man that lives in a prefecture next to my hometown. My entire life. I knew the layout of his home, his family, and I felt like I could understand him and that he could understand me. Not the details, but just the senses, a connection. However before I met him in person I was confused, I didn't understand why I was experiencing these things and frankly I was worried. It took a toll on me, because I started to believe it was worse than it really was. I had to focus more to escape the thoughts that I might have some kind of mental illness, but even then it felt so forced that it effected my performance. It was a little after this time last year that I made a choice to visit that man. His name was Taiga, and he held my quirk before I did. Before him, a Russian woman. Before her, a man from Germany and the very first was a Canadian woman. I talked to him for the entire day after taking the train to his house one time. I learned about it all, and just like that I believed in myself again. I recognized that I was in my own head doing more harm than good. The way I stepped forward was by reaching out, because everyone needs a hand up sometimes." He let the little story sink in for a moment, before continuing. " I am supposed to have come up here to give my speech to be your Class Representative, and while that is true these words apply with or without your votes. If you don't vote for me, I will always be here to talk too. If you don't vote for me, you can rely on me to help wherever and whenever you need, simply a call away. If you don't vote for me, if you want to train after school and you have cleanup duty, I'll fill in for you. If you don't vote for me, I'll still be available any time of the week, any time of the day to sit down and talk about the things that worry you. If you do vote for me, all that's still true. However with the privileges of the position I'm allowed to work as a representative to the administration. I can within reason discuss with the teachers to have our schedule be the best it can be for everyone. Your vote won't effect me talking to the teachers to try and help you out if that's what you want and need, but if I do get the position all's right by the system for me to have the authority to arrange student events, to coordinate with teachers to get the assistance you need in any regard. I can organize class trips to go train alongside the teachers, any ideas you all have, I can share as well. If you don't vote for me, I can and will still do everything I can to help you so long as you trust me too. If you do, it gives me every resource possible to help more. There are too many examples to pick any one, so I'll move on. You all understand, haha." He'd say while ruffling the back of his hair. He moved on with his 'speech'. " A question I often ask people here when I get the chance is why they want to be a Hero. What made them- no, inspired them to pursue the path they're following today. Some of the other speeches today have already touched on this, but many answers I got while all different, had hope in common. They wanted to give people hope, hope for tomorrow, hope for the future. The reason I want to become a Hero is to inspire others, and to inspire hope. I've seen what a bad life looks like and I've been lucky enough to have a good one. I just want to do the world right, and I want to see people smile. I don't think Heroes are exempt from being saved. And Hero work isn't always flashy, it isn't always physical. A negotiator in a police force that successfully talked a criminal down during a robbery swung no fists, shot no bullets, and no one got hurt. He's a Hero. A friend sitting down with another friend and talking them through their troubles is a Hero. The definition of a Hero is someone with the courage to as well... Fittingly, as UA would have it, 'Go Beyond'. Beyond themselves, helping others." He said while jokingly lightly hitting his right fist to his chest proudly. " That's why I think there's a prerequisite to becoming a Hero. Something everyone needs to try their best before they can truly help others. During your careers you'll be entrusted with the lives of hundreds of people a year, thousands in a lifetime and that's being modest. If you're influential enough your actions will shape the perspective of billions. That all starts here, with you. That's why I think that to become a Hero, you first have to save yourself. To work passed your own inner Demons and to accept the person you are now, and steel yourself to become the best person you can possibly be." He'd say, standing up fully from the podium, arms gently falling off of it to rest. " I want everyone here to know that as a student this is your school. If you think nobody else cares about you, I do. You're not a burden here, and any mistakes you might've made past or present aren't things to be ashamed of. We are not defined by our mistakes, but by the person that is seen, built from the lessons we learned from our mistakes." He looked over towards Ryuga, she might out of everyone be best able to interpret that what comes up next is directed at her, but it could also be interpreted as just a flowing gaze over the class. " All of you can talk to me anytime, any day. No matter how bad you might feel at the time. I wouldn't be aiming to be a Hero if I didn't want to help people. Just know that I care, no matter what you think our relationship is. In time I'll reach out to all of you, we're going to be together for three years, but if you ever feel like you want to talk to me I'll leave my number on the board at the end of class. I'm so thankful you've all given me this opportunity- and on the chance I do get the position, I'll do everyone proud.
What better way to send this off than some encouraging words, thought up for good reason." He placed his fist to his chest, resting it there proudly. He spoke the motto not in its full extent, or in an incredibly loud voice like some kind of drill sergeant. He just spoke it at a normal volume, but with a clear meaning to the words. " Go beyond." And with that the arm fell to his side, he offered a genuine smile to the class, and then moved back towards his seat. " Oh, and my vote for Class Vice-president is Ryuga-chan." The first few speeches weren't really impressive to him. Only Fu-chan had come close. But due to her illness, he wondered how she would do in that kind of position. Daiki went next. Blinking a few times, he found Daiki's speech...not necessarily uninspiring, but woefully optimistic. He even tossed in a candidate for a Vice-Rep. Was that how that worked? He doubted it. What's worse, while he didn't go into a lot of detail, he went against Jun's advice about the guy's quirk. That really made him want to facepalm. "I'll pass, I won't run. Besides, what I have to say is only an advertisement for who I plan on voting for anyways." Daiki's speech made it seem so much more work than what he initially thought...he really didn't want to be a part of that mess. Jun made a not so subtle look at Isamu's direction. He had a feeling the cat would actually keep it real. It's all good to go beyond, go plus ultra, but honestly, there was a lot more to it than that.
Unless Isamu royally screws up, that was where his vote will be. But alas, he has to sit through the rest of the speeches. Hopefully some of them would be better...

[attr="class","ka"]
[attr="class","ke"] [attr="class","ex"]I Will Not Be Like My Father [attr="class","rh"] ❝ What a seriously colossal waste of time this was
| As Kagami got to her seat she pulled out her things, knowing this would take a little while she decided to spend a little time going over her notes and make some use of this waste of time. In the background she could hear someone starting up some kind of speech. If she had cared about this whole election thing then she would have paid attention but as things were she honestly thought it was just stupid and a waste of their valuable time in class. She wasn’t really sure how long she spent immersed in her notes, half the time she couldn’t read her own handwriting. Mentally she made a note to herself to spend some time working on her penmanship. A tough thing to do when her hands were beat to hell from all her training and the many cuts on the inside of her palms but not being able to read her own writing was just unacceptable.
At some point things quieted down. Taking this as a cue to pay attention again she took in the room, it seemed that leaving her name up on the board had been a mistake after all. Now it seemed that it was expected that those who were in the running for class rep gave some kind of speech. At least that’s what seemed to be going on with what she had registered in the back of her mind for the past several minutes. “I’m not running,” Kagami said in the same nearly emotionless and yet somehow irritated tone she had whenever she spoke. Straight and to the point as she always was. Though inside her head she had a few more thoughts on the matter. What a seriously colossal waste of time this was, but if someone wanted to voluntarily take on such a useless position then she wasn’t going to stop them.

Post by Isamu Suzuki on Jun 19, 2019 16:15:01 GMT
Isamu made notes on his classmates as he watched the other speeches go by. He was a little surprised that Sakamaki hadn’t jumped at the chance to give the first speech, given the… rather aggressive campaigning he had heard about, but maybe he was just getting cold feet. Either way…
Chiura’s speech… did actually speak to him on some level. Fu, on the other hand… gave a nice speech, but he still had doubts about her commitment. He didn’t want to think ill of a classmate, but it was hard to consider putting all that responsibility on her shoulders, to say nothing of her current illness.
Ryu left off his last name, but there was only one other person in the classroom who smelled of that many cats, so that wasn’t a hard blank to fill in. Hiding a connection like that, at least for the purposes of this vote, was an integrity move. Isamu could respect that. Torami’s speech seemed fine, and then…
There was quite a bit to unpack with Daiki’s speech. Especially the part where he casually claimed that his quirk had been held bu multiple other people before him. That was… quite a claim. The same or similar quirks running in families was a known phenomenon, but it didn’t sound like the other people he mentioned were in his family tree. He quickly switched to a different document on his laptop to scribble a note for follow-up there, then went back to taking notes.
And then Daiki just casually mentioned his choice for vice-rep, which… was a bit like spoiling the vote and probably not how the voting would work. No wonder I have a hard time taking him seriously sometimes.
Two more people not running. Hmmm. The field kept narrowing.
Seeing nobody else getting up, Isamu hopped out of his chair and headed to the front of the class, checking his tie and appearance in the last few moments where his back was still turned to the rest of the class. He turned and stepped behind the podium, then a moment later appared on top with an effortless leap. A totally normal housecat in a school uniform standing on two legs about to give a speech to the class. Completely normal.
His tail frizzed for just a moment as he looked out at the rest of the class—thankfully hidden behind him—before he steadied his nerves. “Good morning. My name is Suzuki Isamu. Like all of you, I enrolled at U.A. to become a hero. We all have different reasons and motivations, but ultimately we are here to serve the greater good. To put others before ourselves. The position of class representative is smaller in scale but still similar. There is some prestige to be had in being a class representative, it’s true, especially at a school like U.A. But the main purpose is to serve the needs of your fellow students. To help the class not just reach its goals, but to excel, and prepare to make an impression on the world at large.
“I believe I have what it takes to be your representative. My quirk is not the strongest or flashiest, but what I lack in power I more than make up in determination and resourcefulness. I’ve had to work hard to get where I am today, and I know I can share that hard work for the benefit of the class. To use all of that resourcefulness to help our class not just achieve its goals, but to excel. And I want to make sure that make sure that we are ready to face the world head-on and show everyone what we’re made of.”
It was a little hard to come up with a rousing, motivational speech without being overly sentimental, and he wasn’t usually a sentimental person, so rather than forcing it… it was probably best to be brief and succinct. Besides, there had been sentimentality enough from the other candidates as it was.
He bowed to the assembled students and then hopped down from the podium, returning to his desk and taking up his notes once more.

Post by Ren Wolff on Jun 22, 2019 4:55:39 GMT
Ren sat quietly as each of his classmates stood and took their turn at the front of the class, listening carefully as each delivered their own speech in spite of whatever nerves they must have had. It was a display that the blonde haired boy deeply respected, and so he was sure to give each his full and undivided attention. Almost all of them spoke of their motivations; what brought them to this moment, or what they were looking to achieve. As each of them said their peace, he felt like he got to know a little of those that he had yet to meet, and better understand those that he already knew; their hopes, their worries, their ideals, their determination. Daiki in particular surprised him a bit with the seriousness of his tone and statements... for the most part at least. Some of what he said raised a few questions in Ren's mind, but those could wait until later. The ideals everyone portrayed didn't always line up exactly with what he thought the job required, but it did give him something to think about in the time between speeches. Why exactly did he want to be the class rep?
He'd left his home because he couldn't stand how the Yamaki family treated him, like a puppet whose every move had been predecided. He hated being put up on some imaginary pedestal and being surrounded by fake smiles, so ever since he got to the school he had tried not to stand out too much. So why was he running? He pondered it as his classmates moved back and forth between their seats and the podium, and the answer he came up with was actually rather simple. When he entered the UA, Ren was able to make a number of friends for the first time since he left Germany, a luxury that had been denied to him at his previous school due to his name. He wanted to repay everyone in the class for the friendship and kindness they had shown him, and this was a way that he could do that.
After Isamu finished his speech, Ren waited for a moment to see if anyone else was going to step up, not that there were many left. When it was clear that no one else was moving, the boy stood to take his turn. He knew that he usually wasn't the most talkative person, and he didn't exactly have anything prepared, so all he could do was hope to find the words to get his message across. "Good morning. For those of you I haven't had the pleasure of getting to know yet, my name is Ren Wolff." He paused for a moment as he stopped in front of the podium to gather his thoughts. Even if he hadn't met all of them, they might recognize him name, which was a bit of an unwelcome side effect of being the supposed son of the Rank 9 Hero. "There's not much I can say here that hasn't already been said. Whatever our individual situations and goals, in the end we're all here for the same reason; we're here because we want to be heroes. In my time here at UA, one thing has become particularly apparent to me; it doesn't matter where you're from, what name your family has, or even what your quirk is, we all have that same potential. There are some of us that may be unsure if they have what it takes to really be heroes, but I've seen you guys do enough amazing things to know that you absolutely do."
"...I guess what I'm trying to say, is that I'm not standing up here because I think that I'm somehow more deserving or better qualified for this position than any of the rest of you. I'm here because I want to help you all achieve the heights that you strive for, and I'd be honored if you gave me the chance to try. I can't promise I'll be perfect, but I can promise that I will do everything in my power to faithfully represent this class, support my fellow students, and do whatever needs to be done to ensure that we all become the best heroes we possibly can. That still holds regardless of whether or not any of you actually vote for me, and I'd like to think that those of you who know me understand that that's a promise I fully intend to keep."
With nothing more to add, Ren gave a bow to the rest of the class and started to make his way back to his seat. He wasn't completely sure if that had all come out correctly, but at the very least he'd given it his best shot. Either way, one thing was certain; the resolve and dedication he'd found for the others wouldn't change, and he'd give them the best he had.

Well, that could have been worse. Some of her students gave alright speeches. They were very much based in their emotions. It was sort of touching to have people like Yutsuko and Himura speak so honestly about how they feel. Both the girls had their own insecurities that Aoi noticed in their speeches. Yutsuko being new the 1-A and Himura having left 1-A for a extended period of time. They have similar stories. Maybe they know that? Regardless, Aoi was happy that the two girls were confident enough to put themselves out there. She wasn't confident in what their fellows students thought about them. Regardless, both would make agreeable student representatives.
She largely ignored her brother's speech due to any potential biases. He'll get over it. Wakui was interesting. They were more focused on how they would be able to do their job well rather than a personal story. It was a speech that is opted to with varying levels of success in her experience. It wasn't remarkable but she appreciated that Wakui ran for representative. Satou didn't surprise her that much. It fit the pattern that she knew him for. It was a good speech but it had it's weaknesses (like all the speeches).
Wolff's and Suzuki's speeches were intriguing in a sense. Suzuki's speech was more akin to Wakui's while Wolff's was more akin to Yutsuko and Himura. Again, both had their strengths and weaknesses. There were a few students who announced they did not want to run after someone gave a speech. This drew an annoyed sigh from the teacher. It felt like they were dragging attention away from people that spoke before them.
Getting up from her seat, she erased all the names and rewrote all the names of the students that gave speeches. Turning towards the class. Aoi stated "These are your choices for class representative and vice class representative. Who ever gets the most votes becomes class representative. If there is a tie, a tie breaker vote will be cast. Vice representative will be determined by who ever has the second most votes. If the second to fourth place votes are very close to another, a run off vote will be held." Taking out small sets of scrap paper, Aoi handed them to the students.
"Please write your choice for class representative on the piece of paper and then hand them to me. "

WORD COUNT 244
Tag @1-A
| Hyousuke didn't really know anyone that'd gone up to make a speech - but then again, he hardly knew anyone there. If he was to be honest, he wasn't entirely sure who he liked the most out of the candidates there, though mostly because he wasn't entirely sure what they would actually do. Sure, they'd stated that they were reliable, or that they'd try their best, or any number of things. But he couldn't tell if any of them had actually pledged to do anything solid. He didn't remember if any of them had been blunt, and laid out any plans for... well, anything really.
Perhaps they couldn't really make that kind of promise so early on, given that the class representative probably didn't have enough power to say anything beyond "I will do the best I can" at that point. lacking anything solid to go off of (that he could remember anyone saying), he went for the next best thing - someone whose speech resonated with him. Someone that, despite all appearances, didn't seem to think much of themselves. Someone that, by the sounds of things, had had to fight tooth and nail to get onto the course and stay there - despite the people around them saying it wasn't possible.
He scrawled his chosen candidate's name onto that scrap of paper and gave it to his teacher, before returning quickly to his seat. No need to be up there any longer than he had to. |

Post by Teresa Collins on Jun 28, 2019 19:52:52 GMT
Not much to choose from, it seems, Teresa thought with a small sigh as she took the piece of paper from her teacher. None of the candidates really resonated with her. Then again, there was really nobody who could. Who would want to be friends with or anything similar with a Doll? Simply put, she wasn't sure as to how to proceed. Riku did not make a speech, so that took away her one option she was going to go with. He, aside from Daiki, was really the only person she got to know for a bit before her first class today. Teresa shrugged slightly as she poised her pen over the paper, only stopping to think as she didn't really know anyone else name. What an odd predicament for her to have. She had knew that she should get to know the names first, but with only being fresh in the class, it was rather hard. Thinking back to what they each had said, she really only thought Daiki and Ryu were at least sounding as to what Teresa thought this school was about.
Either way she went, she had to make a choice. Frankly, she didn't care in the slightest as to who took the job as long as it was filled and they did what they were supposed to. To Teresa, the job was about helping others and being organized, not emotional speeches. However, as things went, she knew that if she didn't pick anybody, it would only cause trouble for their teacher. Sighing lightly again, she picked up her pen and wrote down one name on the slip of paper. Surely it will be somewhat helpful of her to try to engage with her classmates. For now, she wrote down the name she had only just recently learned.
Her vote for this election was: Daiki Satou.

"Hey, Seraphine-san? I think you'd make a great class president. I believe in you.You have what it takes. Smarts, personality, kindness and manners. Follow your heart."
Unexpected words and a gentle touch of the shoulder that Raphael had not at all been prepared for. Words he wasn’t sure were correct at all, and he wasn’t sure what made the other teen say them, but it seeped in, making him blink in surprise.
“T...thank you… Satou-...san…”
The blonde said softly, raising his gaze for lilac orbs to meet blue for a moment, before he lowered it to the floor, then slowly up to the window where he had been staring prior. Was Daiki just being nice, or had he been behaving or possibly something about his facial expression that warranted concern? He really needed to get a hold of himself if that was the case, the first year was well aware everyone had enough problems without having to worry about others also.
That was when he heard a familiar voice and his gaze went forwards, catching sight of Ryuga. He had started to largely ignore most emotion colours in his everyday life, but seeing his friend’s made him pause. There was...something wrong. He should...probably try and speak to her later, not that he was much good at communicating but he felt like he couldn’t just leave it like this. He might...regret it. Like he had with his mother, thinking about it now, he could have done something, anything back then to lessen her suffering…
But the flow of class wasn’t going to wait for the blonde to simmer in his thoughts for long, as students started to give their speeches. Some students he wasn’t familiar with, some he was. But he already knew the people he thought were the most suited tot he role, well, there were two people who came to mind when someone said “Class Rep” as to him, that meant someone who was a model hero, worthy of representing their school and class. Correct attitude, quirk use, background. But what had happened a few moments ago had really sort of cemented his vote.
Heroes… Admirable heroes were ones who could see around them and hold out a hand to those in need, and had the courage and strength to support them. Not like himself who was just about not drowning just taking care of himself, and even that he didn’t do very well.
Satou Daiki san.
He wrote in his small, neat, perfectly uniform writing before he folded the paper once, and stood up to hand over to the teacher at the front.

The next person wasn't running either. Sato-sensei seemed like she was getting annoyed at the last minute dropouts. Jun was always a procrastinator though, so it should be expected him him. The other student he wasn't familiar with. The house cat and resident cook was next. As expected, nothing bad. But nothing great either. But nothing that changed his mind either. Ryuga seemed to be having something of a crisis of herself. But it wasn't his place to probe into it. Raph-san and Daiki noticed as well. One of them were likely to talk to her later. He wasn't needed. Sato-sensei then discussed the rules. Something he expected when Daiki announced Taiga as his vice representative. Unless she somehow got the second most votes, she wasn't being his second. Once again, Daiki showed he wasn't all that smart...but the same time, he wasn't stupid either. Maybe ignorant would be the better term...but as much as he liked Daiki, he couldn't bring himself to change his vote at all.
Hyousuke got up and turned in his vote first. Another student he wasn't familiar with was next. Raph-kun next. Scribbling down Isamu Suzuki, Jun got up and turned in his vote. It was out of his hands now. What happens happens. Others were still mulling it over. As much as he wanted the cat to win, he was starting to get that sinking feeling. Hopefully he wasn't being pessimistic about Isamu's chances. The poor cat did seem like he would be that joke candidate. But he guessed he'd wait and see...
